So far, it's good. The writing is just okay, but the plot is interesting enough to make up for it. I'm excited for our FMC to meet her harem.

Pre-read mood: Could a nuclear winter reverse harem possibly hold my interest or be good enough to not DNF? I guess we'll find out because I can't not read this.

I honestly love a good apocalyptic read, there is something about the desperate need for survival that just draws you in!
However I didn't love this as much I had hoped I would, and found it hard to get into it.
I am unsure if English is the authors first language, as some of the grammar felt off. But also the editing wasn't as thorough as it should have been either, which meant there were parts I had to reread as they felt a little clunky and didn't quite flow.
It felt quite slow in parts, especially the FMCs POV. There was a lot of inner monologuing, and in places I wanted it to speed up to a bit of the plot or action. There was only so much I could read about her sitting in the cold and not wanting to get up...
Whilst I am all for a vulnerable FMC, this was almost tragic how easily she just gave up all the time and didn't even try to fight. She can apparently climb stairs a lot but not walk on the ground outside without tripping ALL THE TIME. It did feel like a lot of time she was asleep, loosing consciousness or just thinking about things.
I didn't feel a lot of chemistry between the characters yet, as there isn't much getting to know each other or much time spent within each others company either. Assume the next on the series will build on that, but I was hoping for a little bit more in this.
I was disappointed there isn't actually much to the plot yet...there was a lot of time spent on world building, describing things and then repeating some of the former e.g. "was covered in thick fur...so wasn't cold. His body was wrapped in fur." I think there needed to be less focus on repeating information and over describing things, and more focus on the plot and the characters to create a more rounded and balanced read.
I do think this has a lot of potential, as the overall idea of the world is really interesting and I felt invested in that aspect. The different MMCs, and the inclusion of the wolves, was also really appealing. There is still a lot unknown and unrevealed, and the mystery defintely created a curiosity to know more.

It's here! Apocalyptic Winter, a new book from Kitty Siberia, and for fans of Hunger Games or The 100, you are in for a treat! This one packs those vibes and so much more in a frozen futuristic world.

The MFC, Yana, was born in and has lived her entire life in an underground silo. Centuries after a catastrophic event takes place, the world is plunged into an ice age. But, a preselected few were chosen to shelter in an underground silo, where life has continued an existence for the decendants. Yana was orphaned as a child and is now a keeper of the past...a librarian. Life in the silo is very hard for all but those on the upper tiers. And every year, a Sacrifice Day takes place. The Silo's mainframe selects one person, randomly, to leave the silo. It is their mission to go out into the frozen world and attempt survival. If they do survive, the individual is to return to the silo in one year to report on the findings. But, when Yana is selected, she knows that with a weak heart and no physical training, she will never survive.

But above the silo, life does exist, and Yana is about to find that out. There are plenty of surprises, twists, and lots of action to keep us entertained. This is a slow burn reverse harem and part of a duo. I am so hooked on this story and can't wait for Book 2.

AI Slop Cover Art.
AI Slop Writing.
Hypocritically angry at people on FB for review bombing her poorly "prompted" works.
Defends the use of AI in writing that notoriously creates deluded and nonsensical fiction at the cost of our environment.
An insult to creativity and authored works alike.
Why do you think she only creates #1 of series? Because if she tried to prompt herself a second book the consistency wouldn't be there.
It saddens me there are good reviews of these books as it means some people didn't even clock it was made by a robot.
Avoid this person at all costs.

I was provided an ARC of this book for my honest review.

Apocalyptic Winter is a story that takes place during a time when the world has been in darkness for generations due to a nuclear event called the Prime Fire. Though there are some humans and other creatures living above the surface, much of the population is living underground in a silo community and has never been outside.

The FMC in this story is an orphaned young woman named Yana. Yana loves to read and works as a librarian that scans historical documents and scrolls. She also suffers from some sort of heart condition that causes weakness and syncope. Each year a sacrifice is chosen to be sent to the surface and, if they survive, are to report back the following year. So far, no one has ever returned. Yana is chosen as the latest sacrifice. Yana is sent to the surface with only 2 weeks of ration bars, some miscellaneous medications, a gun and a small knife- Neither of which she knows how to use.

Shortly after arriving on the surface Yana is attacked by mutants. 3 male friends traveling with two prime wolves hear her screams and rescue her. Yana is taken in by these men and forms quick bonds with the wolves.

This story is meant to be a reverse harem and it is my understanding that will be more evident in the second installment of this series.

Overall, I think this has the potential to be a great story! I appreciate the relationship of the wolves and the priest and how they become protective of Yana. I love their personalities!

I think it could benefit from some more beta reading and edits to fix the tense errors and typos, additional character building, and sharpening of the vague details. The reviews posted prior to this one state they were given an unedited version of the story. I wasn't made aware whether my version was also unedited. After the aforementioned things are ironed out I think the story will pull together nicely.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I'm an absolute fan of post-apocalyptic / dystopian stories, especially when there's a why choose romance involved. So from the moment I found out about this book being written, I've been checking out the developments and release of this first part in a duet. Even though this wasn't supposed to become a duet at first, I'm actually glad the author chose to do so and not cut back on the storyline in this first part. I was happy to learn more about Yana's life before she became the sacrifice, and I do believe all the information we got so far was necessary for the character and world building of this storyline.

The worldbuilding in this "future on earth" story was quite fascinating, and I enjoyed the tiny similarities between this story and the 100. I wouldn't mind exploring more of this world, not necessarily in this duet but maybe in a spinoff with other characters? Anyway, Yana's story is fascinating and even though I'm not immediately head over heels for all the men in her life, our silver fox / viking Vasily definitely interests me.

I'm excited to find out more in the second book, especially with how book one ended!

Kitty Siberia is an awesome author, but I think this is one of her best stories (IMO)

In a future where the surface of the earth has become an inhabitable ice wasteland and the last remnant of humanity created and hided in an underground Silo for centuries. Every year one person is randomly selected to become the "sacrifice", to go to the surface to see if earth has become once again habitable. But never once before has a sacrifice return from their travel.

This year sacrifice is our FML, Yana, an orphan with a weak heart condition, working as the keeper of the past, is selected. She knows she will not survive but is willing to do everything she has in her power and will to survive and come back in one year time to give her report. But she is about to find out what really has been happening in the surface, and who are waiting for her.

This is part 1 of 2, it's a slow burn why choose, with action and twist. There are horrible creatures and wolves.

This starts out with Yana living in a silo environment. She is picked to venture to the top and experience the new world. She's lived there in the Silo her whole life, working as a librarian to keep records of there history.
Yana is surprised by the harsh reality of the surface, it’s not anything like she grew up believing it would be. Wild mutants hunt in packs, the once lively cities are now piles of rubble and batteries and fuel cells are the currency of the new world. Every man and woman must learn to survive now, to the mutants will eat you.

After being treated so badly and beaten by the first human she met, she is afraid to trust Vasily, Quinn and Paro. She befriends Vasily's two wolves, Brimstone and Spark and slowly comes to terms with the harsh and violent surface world.
Quinn is mute, so its hard to get a read on him. Will finding the Green Place to for the better? Will Haha adapt to this new surrounding?

Not quite what I was expecting

First, I love this author and loved her Letty series which was a zombie RH. I am happy to support her and all her books. - This particular one is not my fave. I wasn’t expecting so much of a religious aspect (that is not my thing), also, I got used to her FMC in her other series being a bada$$… so I was expecting Yana, the FMC in this series to be bada$$. Needless to say, I’m not a fan of how weak and childlike she seems. So, just not really my cup of tea overall. But it does end on a pretty good cliffhanger that makes me want to read book 2 when it comes out. And kudos to the author for her imagination with this one!

Apocalyptic and why choose, some of my favorite tropes. I knew, I had to read it and I'm so glad I did!

The storyline was original and it captured my attention from the start.
The author gives us such a detailed description of the world. At times, it seemed like you were there too.
There was suspense and action, and so much unknown. We are given information her and there, but I have a feeling we have a lot more to learn.

What a great beginning to Yana's story.
We are left with a cliffhanger and wanting more!!

3½* rounded up.

It was good. What can I say:
Apocalyptic ✔️
Reverse Harem ✔️
Some kind of zombie ✔️

I love that that the H's aren't perfect in appearance.
They've been through so much.
There is a cliffy what I didn't expected.
I can't wait to read how that ends.

What a book! Yana seems so weak, but brave at the same time. The priest and the brothers are really interesting. They have all been through so much. The kiss and ending were not what I was expecting!

All Yana wants is to live her short life surrounded by her books. Is she allowed to? Of course not! This poor thing gets chosen to see if the world outside is safe. Is it? What do you think? She meets this...Priest, his 2 friends & his puppies. And the slow burn begins.

I always enjoy reading these apocalyptic books just to see how the author has decided the world has ended. I thought this one was quite interesting, although I wish we had more time in the Silo with Yana. However, I thought the author did quite well explaining what it was like with the few chapters we did have of it. I mean, Yana needs to meet Priest, Paro, and Quinn, who aren't in the Silo. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next in the series as I was not expecting the book to stop where it did, LOL.

Disclosure - This review is based on an un-edited, pre-release version. I was fortunate to be allowed to preview it.
Kitty Siberia has worked up a compelling story of apocalyptic mayhem in this gritty tale of survival, greed and desperation.
Fans will undoubtedly notice hints of the Silo series (Hugh Howey), The 100 (Kass Morgan) and even The Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins), but the author has created a world that successfully blends aspects of these into a world of distinct characters facing frozen wasteland survival with little hope for the future.
Characters are well-defined and easy to relate to. World building is commendable, with high description for action scenes and the hazards of the harsh local environment. Written from the view of its female main character, there is not only untamed action in the form of explicit violence, but also the raw emotional and physical needs of a slow-burn reverse harem. If you are familiar with the work of this author, you won’t be disappointed.
With plans for a second book in the series, your time reading will not be wasted. Two thumbs up!
