From the bestselling author of the Gideon Johann Western Series, the Wild Horse Westerns Series, and the Hand Of Western Series, comes Beyond The Wildflowers!
On a beautiful Colorado morning in 1879 while Jamey Purdy is out collecting wildflowers to make into medicines for her apothecary, her tranquility is shattered at the sight of a shot-up cowboy just barely alive. Realizing that the shooting has to be tied to the troubles lurking back in town, she makes the momentous decision to hide Dolph in the apothecary. A letter sent to Dolph’s brother, Leif, results in the deputy sheriff arriving in Bear Claw to keep watch over his kid brother. As tensions build in the town and between Jamey and Leif, the pair find themselves attracted to each other but in conflict over the growing dangers in Bear Claw. Leif is hell-bent on revenge, while Jamey, after witnessing the murder of her husband a couple of years ago, believes in accepting life as is no matter how bad the circumstance rather than ever again face violence. With a little luck, they just might find love and a town they’re proud to call their own.
Duane Boehm has written another western novel with enough humor, heartbreak, love, and outlaws to keep you turning the page.
Duane Boehm grew up on a farm outside of Petersburg, Illinois. All the time spent driving a tractor gave him plenty of opportunity to let his imagination run wild and not tear up too much equipment. The two passions he developed early in life were the love of playing guitar and reading books.
He eventually moved to a mini-farm outside of Murfreesboro, Tennessee with his wife and replaced planting corn with trees and raising dogs. For a number of years he worked as an IT consultant and continued with being a part-time musician and songwriter. He dabbled in writing short stories with the idea in the back of his mind that someday he would write a novel. One Christmas after watching "A Christmas Carol", he was inspired to begin his journey as a novelist.
Usual quality dialogue between likeable characters, quality writing, enough action and romance are all included in an entertaining read. Not quite as edgy as his Last Stand series, I feel that it lacked some attention to detail regarding Dolph's recovery. An injured person requires assistance with basic bodily functions. While a lot of specific detail is not needed, the subject provided opportunity for interesting character interaction that could have added much to the story.
Although there are ample frontier shootouts, and fast draw action, this novel is mostly a love story decorated with Hallmark style furnishings. The story is gripping and manages to keep the reader’s attention for awhile but an avalanche of wordy mundane encounters between the main characters slows down the pacing to the point where sheer boredom causes the reader to start skipping sentences and then whole paragraphs. The final pages were so boring that fast skimming was necessary.
This story starts out with two young cowboys entering a town and stopping in a tavern for a beer, but it's the wrong bar at the time. Now this is where you come in to read this story. It has lots of action and surprises. A little love story too. You have to read it to find out what happens... Thanks for all the entertainment Duane. Will be looking for a new story now.
Great story and nice ending. Lots of bumps in the road that increased the excitement. Interesting character development. Different. Really like your writing and will be looking for another book from you!! Keep ‘em comin!!!
Absolutely a joy to read. Characters were amazing and made the story one that you may think of often. And by the way they found a way to save a town and get rid of a gang of killer thugs.
What an enjoyable. Two brothers from boulder show the towns people of Bear Claw how to deal with a ruthless rancher that has his thumb on the entire town. In the process they find the loves of their lives.
A good story with hardship along the way but with a very feel good ending. If you like westerns with action and a touch of romance, then this is for you.
This story has excitement in doubles and triples. This story has warmth aplenty. This story projects care and empathy. This story won't let you stop reading.
