Overlanding 101: A Field Guide to Vehicle-Based Adventure Travel
Scott Brady and the Editors of Overland Journal
Publication Date: May 20, 2025

ARC courtesy of Adams Media and NetGalley.

A beautifully produced, comprehensive field guide overlanding sure to appeal to beginners and more experienced overlanders alike. It begins with an overview and a brief history of overlanding, and soon gets to the nitty gritty with basics of vehicle selection, preparation and maintenance, as well as checklists for emergency medical and survival equipment, communications and navigation, tools and recovery equipment. The author goes through options for camping and camp equipment, and finally, route selection, both U.S. and international, for travelers of different levels of experience.

The text is clear, concise, and well-organized. Along with the wealth of amazing photos, this book is sure to whet the appetite for adventure travel, for all budgets. I did enjoy the ARC I was provided, but I will surely pick up a hard copy for my library!
