Lisa Kessler’s Practical Tarot Method tells us how to use tarot cards to give insight into the questions of everyday life. I found the author’s interpretation of the cards’ meanings to be relatable — time after time I read something that I understood as a fundamental truth. She demystifies the symbols that are frequently found in the cards’ illustrations and explains how the symbols add meaning. The illustrations throughout are stunningly beautiful, and added to my understanding of the text. Her gorgeous tarot deck is illustrated in color at the end of the book. There are practice lessons that are helpful, and her discussion of tarot’s history is fascinating.

Then there is the author’s understanding of people. She knows what we are all concerned about. This understanding made me feel like a part of a greater whole. We’re all in this together.

If it is true that we all have the answers within ourselves, then tarot is a fascinating way to get to those answers, and Ms. Kessler is the right person to show the path to those answers. You always pull the card that you need.

This was not only a good introduction to tarot reading, but also a very helpful guide to start out with. I have friends into tarot, but never really got into it myself as it always seemed kinda over-the-top-mystical-hand-waving. However, I greatly appreciated this book and the very practical approach to what tarot is and isn’t. I feel like I understand tarot so much more now, and I would recommend this book to anyone looking to understand tarot more or struggling with how to see how tarot can be relevant to your life.
