Glory Broussard Mystery #2

Glory Daze: A Glory Broussard Mystery

Rate this book
"Glory Broussard's talents and foibles as a human and a crime-solver on full display in Arceneaux’s sublime Glory Daze."––Sarah Weinman, The New York Times Book Review, "Best Mystery Novels of the Year"

In the highly anticipated follow-up to the award-winning Glory Be, Glory Broussard finds herself enmeshed in the mystery of her ex-husband's death . . . with an unlikely ally at her side.

After her life was turned upside down by solving the murder of her best friend, Sister Amity Gay, all Glory Broussard wanted was a little peace and quiet. That included getting back to her Sunday morning routine as a bookie in a coffee shop, and planning the annual Mardi Gras gala for her church. But there’s no rest for Glory once the woman who broke up her marriage walks in to CC's Coffee House and asks for help finding her missing husband. It doesn’t take long before Glory finds him . . . with a knife impaled in his chest.

No one knew the man—and his dark side—better than Glory Broussard, who would rather let the local authorities take the lead. But Glory’s daughter, still reeling from problems of her own, insists on her involvement. Glory’s search for the murderer takes her deep inside the seedy world of Louisiana casinos and racetracks, from their high roller VIP rooms with chatty dealers to stables filled with thoroughbred horses and shady dealings.

As if solving a murder and sparring with the woman who had an affair with her ex-husband isn’t enough, Glory has to get to the bottom of her daughter’s secrets, and there are a few members of her church group who would love to see her fail in her Mardi Gras responsibilities. Walloped with one revelation after another, Glory’s no-nonsense, tellit-like-it-is attitude and strength is tested like never before. But it’s going to take more than that to keep her down in this charming and gripping new novel in the award-winning and critically acclaimed Glory Broussard mystery series.

Out today! Funny, worthy sequel to 2023's Glory Be, a cozy mystery about Glory, a 50-something, divorced, churchgoing woman in Louisiana who kinda, sorta, definitely works as a bookie and has recently discovers she is good at solving crimes.

In this one, she has to solve the mystery of her ex-husband's murder with her ex's new wife, her messy daughter, and her daughter's situationship.

With this delightful cast of characters, I would happily read 20 more of these.

(Very important note: the audiobooks are narrated by the incomparable Bahni Turpin, so you really can't go wrong.)

I think I liked Glory Broussard better in this book. She seemed a little less abrasive than in the first book. I enjoyed this book and the narration was great.

There were still some incredulous moments along with a nice amount of humor. I am very glad I gave this second book chance. I appreciate that Glory is a 50 something, church going, red hat wearing, amateur detective. Delphine (hopefully I spelled this correctly) was all over the place. The character was well written because it was obvious she had no idea what she wanted.

I thought it was perfectly appropriate for Glory to feel like she did about Valerie. I did not understand why Delphine didn't understand how her mother felt, and wasn't supportive of her feelings at all.

I liked Landry, Justice, and Noah. The relationships Glory had with Constance and Valerie ended nicely without being mushy. The characters in this book are colorful and complex.The.mystery was entertaining. Even suspecting the people I suspected, it was intriguing trying to figure out the what and why.

I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Rating: 4.5

Honestly, a strong follow up to the first book in the series (which I do think you should read before picking this one up). I think the character development with Glory is actually really good and the mystery is pretty interesting. A good mystery series for anyone looking for an amateur detective book with an older protagonist.

Glory Daze is the latest book in the Glory series. Glory Be, Book 1, was one of my top reads in 2023. I instantly took a liking to Ms. Glory, the sleuth detective of a certain age.

Miss Glory is back solving crimes on a hunch. This time it’s closer to home. Her ex-husband has been murdered and she has to find the killer, working with her daughter and nemesis - her ex husband’s new wife.

This was a funny and cozy mystery that I really enjoyed. I loved Ms. Glory connecting with her daughter and letting her nosiness guide her to potential suspects! We also get some added Louisiana cuisine sprinkled in, too! More of Ms. Glory’s sass and even more colorful characters in the mix!

The narration was also great! I’d recommend this series for fans of the Finlay Donovan series.

Oh, how I love Glory! She’s a hoot – she means well and is loyal to a fault, until you cross her. She has a good heart and so much fun. I enjoyed investigating with her as she investigated her ex-husband’s murder, dealt with the new wife with grace, navigated the complicated relationship with her daughter, and wrestled with her issues with hoarding, all while planning the Mardi Gras gala. There is so much going on in this book but it flows well and sweeps you up in the mystery and community and does not let go until the very end. I can’t wait to spend more time with Glory.

I received a copy from @pegasus_books for an honest review.

This author needs to accept that writing murder mystery is not her strong suit. The book is literally about petty southern mess for most of this book, just let the book be about that. I would rate this less if it was just in the mystery aspect. It is formulaic, murder at the beginning that Glory finds, random stuff in the middle, last 15-10 percent of the book the murderer is unmasked. Either give us more mystery and investigation OR just write a book about a southern lady who likes to gossip. I think she should do the latter.

Book 2

This story was cute, entertaining, elementary, and just okay. We all need a spicy glory daze in our lives.

This is book 2 of the Glory series, but it reads as a stand alone. I really enjoyed this book. The writing is very witty and hilarious. Story is very engaging and keeps you turning the pages. The characters are written so well and are so relatable in real life. Glory could be my grandmother. I loved all the subplots and the tidbit of romance in the story lines. I really can’t wait to see what Glory gets herself into next.

I really like the character, Glory Broussard and her crusty nature and the colorful supporting characters. I love Bahni Turpin’s narration of the audiobook. Preparations for Glory’s church Red Hat society’s events during Mardi Gras season in Louisiana add to the atmosphere and the search for yet another murderer in book two. I will eagerly wait for book three.

Murder mysteries are quickly becoming my favorite. I loved Glory in the first book, because she wasn't a protagonist that was easy to like! More authentic, laying her flaws on the table. Glory Daze made me love her. There was more character development from all sides.

I wanted more of a AHA moment when we found the killer, but this was good! Their dialogue reminded me of my own family. Ready for book 3! I want to see what comes out of Glory and Constance's new friendship.

This was such a fun read. Glory seemed a little softer and more approachable in the 2nd book of the series. As a woman of a certain age, Glory is very relatable and she made me laugh. Liked the Louisania vibe. The food sounded so good, it made my mouth water. The mystery aspect made sense and wasn't obvious. Not really a cozy mystery, but not a procedural mystery, either.

I’ve been eagerly waiting for this book since I read the first one. I absolutely adored Miss Glory! She’s hilarious and unapologetically herself.
I’ve also enjoyed the blossoming relationship she shares with her daughter, Delphine. This book has everything you could possibly want in a book. It’s well-written, funny, full of love, a mystery, and has a delightful Louisiana twist.
I can’t wait for the third book! I’ll definitely preorder that one too. I also love seeing Glory’s personal growth and development with each book.
I listened to this book on audio, and the narrator Bahni always does an amazing job!

Glory Broussard is petty, of a certain age and a messy Black Mother in Lafeyette Louisiana and I loved every moment of it.
Picking up from the first book we quickly learn that Glory’s ex husband has gone missing and his current wife calls on Glory to investigate. The story includes all the characters from the first book with a couple of extras who stir the pot

I love an amateur sleuth and mixed with humor and Glory is everything I wanted. Narrated by Bahni Turpin this book was a good time and everything that I needed 4.75 stars

Danielle Arceneaux does it again! Her latest "Glory Daze" was laugh out loud funny!! A cozy mystery that is not the least but corny, amateur sleuth Glory sets out to solve another murder, this one close to home!! Bahni Turpin's narration in the audio version is perfection and she is truly a national treasure! I rarely give 5 stars, but this one was sooooo good, the dialogue so hilarious, it was just what I needed. 🥰🥰🥰

This book was definitely better than the first. I liked Glory more in this one. Her daughter was a little annoying but I’m glad she got it together. The side characters/friends Glory had along the way made the story enjoyable. I kind of pegged who the killer was halfway through the story, but the adventure to get the answers were great. I hope there is another book coming!

This is episode two in my favorite reluctant murder investigator in Lafayette, Louisiana. This time Glory discovers the body of her ex-husband and is enlisted by his wife to find his killer. Card counting at the casinos, gourmet cooking and Mardi Gras all play a part in her latest investigation.

This one was probably better than the first book in the series. A lot of twists and turns but not too many. The killer was simple to guess. But not right away.

Loved how the author depicted the last scene with glory and the woman she forgave. The hair washing was so symbolic and beautiful.

Glory Broussard had become a bit of a local celebrity; what with solving her best friend's murder and all. When another murder falls in her lap, Glory's amateur sleuthing is called into service once again, by someone she'd least expect.

This was a quick mystery that had me engaged in the story early. Glory was sassy and funny as ever and it was nice to see new characters introduced and unexpected friendships formed. I did feel like a little too many things were happening within the storyline causing unnecessary plot holes.

I listened to this book as an audiobook and once again I loved Ms. Glory and her crew! I really enjoyed the characters new and old, because they seem so realistic. These characters could literally be people you encounter everyday. The audiobook was amazing and the plot was pretty good too! It was giving cozy mystery with a side of Ms. Glory's day to day life. I really hope there will be a book 3 in the series!

I really enjoyed this second book in the series even more than the first. I feel like the characters have become more relatable. Glory would definitely be someone who I would like to be around, feisty but with a good heart.

I absolutely love Glory, and can’t wait to read what she gets up to next! On the flip side I hate Landry. Are we supposed to be rooting for him and Delphine? I hate how he acts like he has no part or accountability in his situation. This happens multiple times throughout this book and everyone turns a blind eye and acts like he’s a sweet gentleman? I’m so confused????

- when him and Delphine talk about his divorce and he’s asking for advice. She says his situation is different to hers but it’s not at all. You both cheated on your spouses?? He’s acting like he had no part in his wife asking for a divorce and he’s just the sad guy whose wife left him for someone else. No sir you are not.

- Glory keeps saying multiple times what a great guy Landry is but he cheated on his wife. Which is something glory’s husband did to her and really hurt her so you would think she wouldn’t be singing his praises all the time

- Landry is talking and says something about wishing he had seen the signs to his marriage failing…… sir you literally cheated on your wife and slept with Delphine….. huuuhh????

- another instance Landry says he needs to stop getting with people who don’t want him and who’s hearts don’t flutter when he walks into the room….. he literally has been in love with Delphine since he was 8 years old but he married a woman he knows he doesn’t love the way he loves Delphine.

I see Landry as a hypocrite and he’s just so annoying and I feel he’s completely unaware of his own part in the consequences that happen to him. Why does everyone in the book love him so much? Anywho I think Delphine is equally a mess so if she wants him she can have him. Glory was waiting this whole book for an apology (rightfully owed in my opinion) from Valerie. I hate how Valerie had tried to justify her actions in sleeping with glory’s husband at the time. Basically saying that glory should have known her marriage was failing so whatever. The gall of Valerie! But I like that she finally apologized for cheating and said it was wrong. In the whole Landry Delphine situation, Delphine is Valerie. I hope Delphine apologizes to landrys wife or I hope landrys wife gets her lick back. They all act like they are innocent when their actions constantly hurt others.

P.S justice deserves better. I love her as a new character to this story!! I love how she called Delphine out on all her BS!!!

Sorry for the rant it’s not even that serious 😭

I really enjoyed this latest Glory Broussard Mystery! Glory is as tough and witty as ever, and I loved her sharp humor and no-nonsense attitude. After everything she’s been through, I felt for her when all she wanted was some peace—but, of course, trouble found her again.
The mystery pulled me in right away, and I loved being taken into the world of Louisiana casinos, racetracks, and big-money drama. On top of solving a murder, Glory had to dealwithher daughter'ssecrets, the Mardi Gras gala, and the woman who broke up her marriage. It made for a wild, entertaining ride.
Through it all, I kept hoping Glory would finally notice Noah. He’s steady, reliable, and exactly the kind of person she needs in her corner. I love her tough exterior, but I’d also love to see her let someone in.
Glory is strong and smart, and I admire how she never backs down. The twists kept me guessing, and I couldn’t stop reading. I can’t wait for the next book!
