He’s the fastest pilot in the galaxy. But he can’t outrun his past…
Trev Corvus was the Star League’s best pilot, until a disastrous intergalactic war left him a burned out shell of a man. Now he’s a Ghost Jumper… an interstellar getaway pilot, helping criminals escape the oppressive Trans-Corp Security Force. But in a galaxy this tough, betrayal is an occupational hazard…
When his latest job goes sideways, Trev and his synthetic canine co-pilot find themselves stuck with a feisty female mutineer named Xiri. And a cargo hold hiding a brutal gangster’s most prized possession.
With a price on their heads the size of a planet, Trev will have to fly faster and farther than ever before, and outwit the galaxy’s deadliest killers. But as they flee across the stars, he discovers an enemy pilot from his past is on their tail as well.
And If this bloodthirsty alien gets his hands on Trev’s cargo, he could plunge the entire galaxy back into the darkness of war…
Mix one part Star Wars with one part Star Trek. Stir in liberal amounts of Conan the Barbarian (books, movies, comics… all varietals.) Toss with Dune, Flash Gordon, Dungeons & Dragons, and Saturday morning cartoons. Add a pinch of video games, and season to taste with comic books, Steven King novels, B-Movies, and whatever speculative entertainment you have on hand. Let simmer in a New Jersey suburb until partially mature, then finish in La La Land, Southern California.
Sear with Godzilla’s atomic breath. Serve chilled with a beer and cheese platter.
A spine-tingling adventure across space in visceral, emotional, and adrenaline-pumping style. A fun, engaging, riveting and delightful experience! I was immediately captivated by the plot twists, the dynamic character development and the compelling dialogue and conflict resolutions. The unexpected revelations and intriguing backstories were eye opening. The page-turning thrills were so exciting! I couldn’t get enough of the story.it has an immersive world-building, with a high-quality writing.
“If you could glimpse an enemy’s mind, then your chances of anticipating his actions improved substantially.”
“To guys like him, a gun was a hammer, and every problem was a nail.” The main character, Corvus, is a rough personality, with a military background as a war ex-pilot, embittered and often confused living with a feeling of guilt. His co-pilot is adorable! “Escaping one’s memories is impossible. You remember so that you may learn, grow. That is the gift of your biological minds. Painful memories fade. And new, happier ones take their place.”
It’s full of fast-paced action and heart pounding tension, with a dose of emotional depth. An addictive reading experience I highly recommend!
The author has a definite treat in this space adventure featuring a scoundrel with a heart of gold who’d be right at home beside another scruffy-looking nerf herder. Trev Corvus also has a touch of the tarnished nobility from Mal of Firefly, but this is a vibrant character all his own, and he has a K-9 companion readers will fall in love with.
The setting easily matches the character. The world building and history is intriguing, and readers are given just enough - the tip of the iceberg - and left wanting more. Every glimpse of alien grandeur or stroll through a wretched hive of scum and villainy is a ride you don’t want to get off.
Finally, I can’t compliment the pacing enough. It’s breakneck when it needs to be, but gives you those necessary breathers. It’s a short, densely packed book and not a word is wasted.
Highly recommended, don’t hesitate to give it a try!
Fans of Matthew Reilly and Becky Chambers will love Ghost Jumper! All the rousing, high energy Reilly-esque chapters, with Chambers' unique style of broad scope alien and human narrative.
Ghost Jumper's superb opening pulls readers straight into a thrillingly high tension situation, grabbing our attention and keeping it riveted to each of the 271 pages. The worldbuilding is top shelf, with a handful of races solidly crafted to absolute believability. The author uses strong, vivid, cohesive prose to generate perfect pacing. I wanted to tear through the book to keep up with Trev, Xiri and Baxter but did not want the story to end!
Everyone loves companion animals but A.A. Warren has taken that concept and kicked a goal with it, giving us a synthetic dog capable of communication with Trev. If only we could hear what Baxter was saying! Xiri's presence is a very cool nod to our UFO history and urban legends. She is skillfully wrought to be a sympathetic character though.
This is an amazing story - gritty, captivating, relatable characters in crazy situations - and I hope there are many more coming. Absolutely recommended.
Our hero is on the run, but then that is nothing new. It is his job after all. But this time the stakes are a bit higher as both his past and his future are about to collide and the consequences endanger a lot more than just his ship and cargo.
This is book one of the series, so all good there.
This is a space opera story that reads like an action adventure script. The story is well written and easy to read with a fascinating setting that definitely invites more exploration. The characters are also well developed and fun. I rather enjoyed our hero as he is quick witted and adaptable. The story itself starts moves at a rather quick pace and I found it very hard to put down. Overall, I found this to be a very engaging and enjoyable story. I definitely look forward to seeing what comes next.
Highly recommended.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What a fun read that was! Trev Corvus was the best Star League pilot in a devastating intergalactic war that left him a wreck. Now he's the only pilot with a Ghost Drive, allowing him to fly independently though the galaxy. His services are for hire and mainly criminals use them. When he gets an easy job from his buddy Jorven, it turns out the job isn't that easy and Trev and Baxter, his mechanical dog and co-pilot, get into more trouble than they could imagine. When they get betrayed by the people they're working for, they are joined by Xiri, a female mutineer, and a long and dangerous travel awaits them. Wonderfully drawn characters throughout the story and Trev Corvus could very well be a relative of the famous Han Solo. I'm looking forward to more adventures.
I enjoyed this story about a former starfighter pilot and his exploits as an unregulated ghost jumper. Interesting characters and intrigue with plenty of action made for a book I didn't want to put down
I'm amazed that this author can write so many fantastic novels, I hope that he never stops writing. His books are some of the best Entertainment I have read and worth the time to read them. Thank you for a very fun entertaining read.
Regretable actions lead to desperate situations this was discovered after agreeing to carry a load . Great storyline with characters you can love and hate. I absolutely recommend this book.
