Lilith escapes an emotionally abusive relationship and is thriving in a new town. When her ex decided he wasn’t quite done terrorizing her.. in swoops her brothers best friend to keep her safe. Will Spencer is the epitome of the golden retriever boyfriend. He is loyal to a fault, full of sunshine, and lives to please those he loves.. but this pup is a pro goalie and he has a defensive streak a mile wide. When Lils is terrified enter Will with a fake dating proposition. But can the love they play for the world remain just a show?
Kate can write spice like no one’s business. Well written character development. Development in the main characters from book one that is amazing to read. Even the DV element was perfectly executed, able to explain the FMC’s history without going into so much detail on page that it is triggering is such a balanced way. It is important to portray DV victims getting free and finding happiness and thriving. What a fantastic read. Well done.

Kate komulas second book. I didn’t like “on ice” which was her first book. But I was intrigued by will and Lilith story so I gave it a chance. The editing was drastically better but I just think I struggle with Kate’s writing style. A lot of the conversations are hard for me to follow. I do feel like there’s always some missing information but repetitiveness of other topics. I’m glad I gave Cody and Lilith a chance so I didn’t have to guess but I don’t think these are for me.
Now for my annotated review that gives all the spoilers and sums up the entire book. The book starts off with Lilith pov and she immediately says I can’t take it anymore. The constant fear that I will do something wrong or something that I didn’t know I was supposed to, and I will end up paying for it. When I started dating Drew, it wasn’t like this. He was kind and attentive, but then gradually, the small corrections he would make turned into full-on outbursts if I didn’t do something the exact way he wanted. So when Drew is away Lilith comes to Liams house. We thought in Liam’s story it was to be closer to he niece and nephew but we now know it was to escape her mentally abusive ex. They all go out to a bar and Will sees Drew hit Lilith. She tells him she doesn’t want to tell the cops or Liam. So will suggests that they start fake dating to scare Drew off. She tells him she doesn’t think that seems fair to him but he says he thinks he’d feel better to know she’s safe and it would keep the puck bunnies off of him. And it was during that conversation that Liam and Elise had caught them and they had to start their fake dating act.
Wills feelings on Liam and Elise’s babies:
Now that their babies are here, they’re busy with diaper changes and bottles. As much as I love being Uncle Will, it’s a reminder of my sister and the child she was carrying when she lost her life, and it feels almost like a betrayal to her at times to be so happy holding a child that isn’t hers.
Wills thoughts after they agree to fake date:
“We will,” I promise, and she nods but doesn’t move from my side. She smiles and shifts to look out over the bar, letting out a breath when I suspect she doesn’t see him anymore. I will do whatever I need to keep her safe from him and anyone else who threatens her peace and safety. I couldn’t protect Kaylee; that loss was out of my hands, but I can protect Lilith Wilkes.
“Listen, you have become important to me, not just because you’re Liam’s sister. You’re my friend, and if I can help you to be safe, I’m going to do that. So, we do this, or we tell Liam and the police.”
Today was a big day for me. Elise showed some of the pictures I took of the twins at the game on one side of the glass and Liam on the other, and their social media team ‘loved’ them. That led to a meeting with them to discuss a gig, taking candid shots of the players and their families before games and of the fans to be used all over the organization. I was so excited after talking with them that I immediately texted Will to tell him.
Lilith kisses Will because his ex is at the game:
I don’t have a chance to overthink her words because it’s a damn good kiss. Her full lips feel like pillows against mine, and her hand is sliding into my hair before I realize how into this I am. I’m enjoying kissing my best friend’s little sister. A lot.
Lilith: “I would totally have a crush on you in another life.”
She mentioned thinking she saw him outside the dress store when she was there with her mom, Sarah, and Elise. I hate leaving, not knowing where he is, and not knowing what his intentions are other than to scare her.
Liam: “I’m glad that you’re who she’s with now. I always got weird vibes about her ex, like he was trying to use her connection to me, and when nothing came from that, he didn’t come around as much. When he was there with us all, it was so awkward.”
“I love you too.” Saying those words, hearing those words, in this context, is rough. Rough because I think I may love her more than one should the sister of your best friend. She’s burrowed herself into my life and heart,
I can’t stop thinking about her happiness and what I can do to add to it.
Will has a hit during the game and Lilith is terrified for him and threatens the other team who hit him. She decides to stay with him to help care for him and watch over his head trauma.
Lilith admits to being horny. He ends up eating her out and he wants to fuck her but his parents are at his house.
“I do, but I want to take my time when I do. If we’re doing this, we’re doing it right.”
Elise found out about Drew when she borrowed Lilith phone to call wills parents and she wants her to tell Liam. Lilith wants to wait until after play offs are over.
Lilith to Elise: “But I came here because despite what he wanted me to believe, I knew that Liam, Will, and you would be happy I was here. I needed the happy that I have here.”
Elise to Lilith: “On a lighter note, we want to add you to our full-time team. The organization has been thrilled with your work, and we can’t let you go.” “Seriously?!” “Seriously. Welcome to the show, Lils.”
Will: the girl that I have had a soft spot for since we met all those years ago, the woman that I have started to develop serious feelings for.
Drew sends Lilith a message after she kissed Will on the Jumbotron at the game.
FROM Drew: You little whore. Making out with some random man in front of an arena of people, you’re disgusting. You’re going to regret it. I’m going to make you regret it.
Lilith and will have sex and she says it’s the best sex of her life.
Drew leaves a note in Lilith house the night of the playoffs after the guys won
I’m going to get you, Lilith. You can’t hide forever.
“I’m sorry, Liam, I wanted to wait. I told myself that was because I didn’t want to distract you from playoffs but I also wanted to pretend that it wasn’t real. Telling you makes it real.”
Will to Liam: “I was able to get her to file a police report and get a restraining order in place, but she’s said that she’s seen him around when she’s out and out. He’s sent texts, too, and now the break-in. He violated the order— we went this morning to the police again to let them know.”
Lilith thinking about Drew: I don’t know if I can get past what he put me through. I’m not sure I will really be able to trust anyone else like that again.
Except I am messed up, and he deserves someone who can accept all he has to offer. Once all this is behind us, maybe things will be different, but for now, I am just going to enjoy my time with him for as long as that lasts.
Will after him and Lilith have a real date: I’ve fallen for you. I know you have a lot to sort through, but I’m willing to wait and to help you through it all. Just as long as I get to be with you.”
She freaks out and goes for a walk. When she decides she wants to go back to will she realizes she’s being followed and then Drew has her. Will calls Lilith and she answers and makes mention of a warehouse and Drew says he’s going to kill her. Will calls 911 and sends his location to Liam and books it to her. He attacks Drew and gets him away from Lilith and realizes Drew has been staying in this warehouse a mile from his house. The police show up and arrest Drew
Will to Liam: “I love her. I would fight off an army to make sure she’s safe.”
Lilith to Will: “I mean that, if you’re up for helping a broken girl figure out how to be loved again, I don’t want to leave. I want to give us a chance.
And then the epilogue is a few months later. Drew is in a mental hospital. Lilith moved in with Will for real and they’re doing good and they’re at Liam and Elise’s wedding.
The book has promise. Abusive ex. Moves to town and ends up with brothers best friend and her crush. But I just don’t get a character connection and the conversation and flow of the book is hard for me:/ also not sure where the title welcome to the show comes in unless Will and Lilith were putting on a show when they were fake dating maybe?

Kate Komula continues the Comet’s hockey romance with Will, team goalie, and Lilith, Cap Liam’s little sister. While the two have known each other for a decade, being the captains little sister simply gains you a bunch of body guards. Never did she think her childhood dream crush be the one to save her. Returning home after a terrible relationship, Lilith is broken and terrified. She is just trying to get her barrings when she realizes the nightmare of a ex has followed her. She delicately handles Lilith’s healing journey as well as she addresses Liam’s grief. Lilith is ready to start a new chapter of her life, but with her luck her abusive ex-boyfriend decides to follow her. Will, her brother’s best friend and her childhood crush, gets the feeling that something is wrong with Lilith’s behavior towards her ex and decides to do something about it… that something is being her fake boyfriend. I mean they’re just friends and they’re just helping each other out.. right?
It’s really nice that you don’t HAVE to read the first book, but honestly I would suggest it just for the storyline.
I loved this book, Will Spencer is definitely one of my favorite Book boyfriends now.

Fake Dating. Hockey. Romance. Running from the past. What else can you ask for?
This book was perfection. If you haven’t read book one go do that first! It makes a lot more sense that way.
Lilith just left her ex after trying to get away for awhile. Running home to her brothers was the best option. But she didn’t want to worry him, so she just said they broke up and that was it. In reality it wasn’t that at all. And her brothers best friend Will started catching on. And of course he has to save his best friends little sister.

Read this short and sweet story in one sitting. Fake dating will always do it for me! Wish it could have been a little longer to flush out the storyline a bit but overall I enjoyed being back with the Comets!!

The Mmc & Mfc both are described so well that I truly loved reading this.
I love brothers best friend romance and this was delivered amazingly ! The sneaking around of the “fake dating “ leading to being together.
Yeah if you are looking for a good shorter read that you can just get lost in and love. It had all elements, messy back story, fluffy romance, love, sports romance, fake dating, it has it all. So so so good !!!

I could say so much about this adorable book but it's so hard without spoilers. So instead I will put an honorable mention of a moment that I loved that doesn't spoil the book too much.
Lilith with the whole "I'm about to take on this hockey player that is way bigger than me" moment was chef's kiss.
Also we have to make mention of the spice, even though it took a little bit to get there....it was so fucking worth it. Everyone deserves a Will Spencer 🥵

When you start a book and everything about it resonates with you, captures feelings that you've experienced, goes through the trust issues, the feelings of self doubt, and feelings of being a burden to at Tee, that book DESERVES 5 stars. Komula writes this book as though she knows the feelings;has lived it. And in the end we get the happily ever after that we domestic abuse survivors dream of. 👏
