Just completed this self-published autobiographical account of a gay man born into a farming community in Northern England in the late 1930s. Stan's story is an uplifting one. He writes about coming out , his faith, working in a Paris hospital during national service, his partner Fred, his career in retail and his years of volunteering in HIV services, and with those in the criminal justice system. Like many in the small community where Stan lived, I knew a little bit of his story, but almost all of this was new to me. It's the story of a decent man with integrity and determination who has made a positive difference in the world and to the lives of others. A personal history about a good man, and an antidote to some of the current misery in the world.

I am currently facing a lot of issues mentally with how people handle my sexuality as a trans man. A lot of homophobia and transphobia coming from a religious place. It threatens my belief constantly that there is a God because how could a God so loving have such hateful people. This book has been a great source of comfort for me. The fact that there are people out there who care and don't see us as pretending. I know this is a book about a man and his husband who were both born as biological men but to me that doesnt matter. There were people who cared for and loved them. They had their own struggles. Just knowing I'm not alone is enough. Its a short read but an emotional one. At least for me. Please be aware that I am biased based on my own sexuality and experiences as a man. If the author ever sees this thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your story. I believe there's so much we can learn from others experiences.
