A series that you back to your college years when you joined the anime club, found a bunch of others who were into the same things you, and you started to get a better sense of where you were going. If you enjoy series that look at anime and gamer culture you owe it to yourself to check out this series.

This continues to disappoint compared to the original Genshiken. The new characters are poorly defined, except for Hato. Madarame, from the original manga continues to carry this sequel on his back with some help from Hato.

I really love Genshiken, I really do. However the quality of the books has really just gone downhill over time.

***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS***

The characters that are new to the series just aren't that interesting and their topics of conversation just aren't as interesting as the original cast's conversations were. Where as Tanaka, Madarame and Sasahara would talk about anime and manga and games, this new group just seems obsessed with Hato and his/her cross-dressing. Seriously, its like all they talk about in the book.

It was nice to see Ohno again and Madarame and his secret love with Saki revisited briefly. Those scenes and the ones with Ogiue and the ones with Sue are the only things that kept my interest during this book. Other than that, the book really isn't that interesting.

I could really care less about Hato and his/her cross-dressing and what influenced his drawing style, because honestly it's not advancing the plot or telling us any new stories.

Unless you are a super big fan of Genshiken like me, you may not like this one very much.

3.5, rounded up because of a general love for this series and because I think I laughed the most during this volume

Not sure how I feel about this sudden shift of focus towards Madarame and his maybe-possible love interests. I don't know why the creator is hinting so hard at Hato/Madarame, unless it's just to troll the fujoshi (yaoi/BL fan girl) readers--wouldn't be surprising, given how many fujoshi characters there are this "season", there's been a lot of poking fun at them

This series should just be renamed from "The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture" to "Hato-kun's obvious gender & sexuality confusion will bring about the premature death of Madarame-senpai"

Very fun, as always. It's interesting to see how the focus of the group changes depending on who's in charge. The rotating membership helps keep things fresh. Still liking this series.
