Multimedia artist Anne Makela is a Quaker peace minister who lives in Michigan with her husband William. When her children were young, Anne and her family practiced and preserved living arts, sustainable skills and holistic farming for over 25 years at Quaker Farm.
Throughout those years, Anne wrote numerous articles for homesteading, livestock, country living, home schooling, mothering, childbirth magazines and more. She also lectured, and taught classes and workshops on a variety of subjects relating to homesteading, the natural family, holistic dog care, midwifery and spirituality. She wrote the first book about making soap with milk which was published in 1997.
Anne has been a practicing Traditional Midwife for over 30 years working with home birth families which included the Amish and Mennonites.
Once her children were grown and established in their own lives, Anne and her husband dedicated Quaker Farm as a school of peace through Christian service, stewardship, and interdenominational fellowship.
Anne enjoys writing stories, for children and adults, which are largely based on farm life. The goal of her stories is to impart family values, spiritual inspiration, earth stewardship awareness, and general peace and goodwill.
When writing stories for children, Anne uses the pen name: Quaker Anne.
