Death is a wicked kind of magic to wield...

Nora is a soul-stealer, one of the few fae who can kill with just a touch. Taken in by the leader of House Pride after her parents' murder, Nora’s been groomed into the perfect weapon: a killer who can lead.

And when the opportunity to seize power from her manipulative adoptive father arises… well, she’s not one to look a gift horse in the mouth.

A year later, Nora and her Second, Josie, are ready to expand House Pride’s influence in both the Unseelie Court and the Human Realm. Nothing will stand in their way—except for the person attacking their House. Nora is no stranger to bloodshed, but this isn’t a run-of-the-mill raid by exiled fae; this attack is personal, mirroring the tragic night her parents died.

Nora vows to find the fae responsible, but soon realizes that the closer she gets to the culprit, the more she risks revealing a secret that could ruin everything she’s built: her House, her title, and the love she’s been cultivating with the leader of House Lust, Imogen.

But the thing about Nora is that no one threatens her family and lives—and there’s no sin quite as sweet as revenge.
__________

A Sin So Pure is the first book in the Sins & Virtues duet, a high-stakes, adult romantic fantasy where Peaky Blinders meets the fae courts and the seven deadly sins. It features a queer main cast, steamy romance, and multiple POVs. Book one ends in a cliffhanger.

I’m so happy I found another gem from my random purchase! A Sin So Pure by GB Bancroft was such a satisfying read. It’s a magical high-fantasy story about Fae Court divided into Unseelie Court (comprised of The Sins as in Pride, Lust, Wrath, etc) and the Seelie Court (comprised of The Virtues such as Patience, Benevolence, Temperance, etc)

The main characters’ lives are written in a way that the reader gets very involved. However, personally, I didn’t feel bored going through their day with them because the author cleverly made it all seem interesting. The introduction of this very different world of fae was so intriguing and although it had a feel of Rawnie Sabor’s Court of Chains, the similarities end in the names. The plot, the characters and the rival court are original and quite engrossing.

If you’re into faes with a dark side and are not squeamish when it comes to murder and torture, A Sin So Pure by GB Bancroft is a book you’d want to read.

I am so thankful to the author G: B. Bancroft for sending me an eARC for her debut novel!

I will be super honest and say that I was not feeling it the first half of the book, but the romance and the world she created was what kept me intrigued and reading, and I AM SO GLAD I DID because that cliffhanger was so worth it omg! Those last 100 pages had me in a chokehold, fighting for my life when everything started to unravel.

Also, it’s funny because I usually love the fantasy parts waaaay more than the romance parts in these romantasies, BUT it was the other way around for me in this book, which pleasantly surprised me. The romance was steamy and sexy, and had me blushing and giddy. Like puhlesseeee, Nora stahp that *giggle* LOLOL

I initially gave this book a 3.0⭐️, borderline 3.5⭐️, but after some thought and discussion with a book buddy, I am giving it a solid 4⭐️! I was looking for detailed world building, but what this book was, was character driven all the way, and the relationships and character development was so beautifully done! My jaw was on the floor for a good minute, re-reading certain pages at the end trying to get a GRASP for what in the world was happening! I have no doubts that the world building and more of the lore will be explored as the series continues… PLEASEEEE book 2 when?!

So, I’ll be totally honest and say that I almost DNF’ed this book; it just felt like it was so slow for how long it was, and it wasn’t as spicy as I’d anticipated, so I didn’t even have that to hold my attention. However, I am really glad I pushed through that block and finished it. After about 55%, I finally got to where I didn’t want to put it down. (I’ll also note that I’ve had lots of personal life things going that probably didn’t help with my attention span)

The story itself is unique and intriguing. I had fun with this one guessing plot points and twists, and I am proud to say I was correct. Hahahaha. Though I will say Silas caught me off guard with his last revelation. I didn’t guess that one!

It was fun to see how the Sin’s personalities and body language relate back to the sin they represent. I loved that part, especially during their meetings.

Nora and Imogen are adorable. I love Josie and Leo, too, and I really hope we get more time with both of them. Silas and Wrath are both extremely interesting, as well.

I very much look forward to the next book. I absolutely need Benevolence’s explanation, and I can’t wait for The Plan to come to fruition.

Overall, I’d give this 3.5/5 stars and 1/5 spice.

I did receive an advance copy, and this is my honest review.

✨My thoughts

I absolutely loved all the characters. I really loved the authors fresh take on the Fae world. This isn’t your typical Fae fantasy. The Unseelie and Seelie are split into houses, the Unseelie being the seven deadly sins and the Seelie being the virtues and their world is inspired by the 1920’s.

I’ve signed up to read a lot of arc and to be honest, I couldn’t remember the premise of this one when I started reading. I was pleasantly surprised to find a sapphic romance between Nora and Imogene of house Lust. I love their story.
I don’t think there is anything I didn’t love about this book!

I was on the edge of my seat finishing A Sin so Pure and can’t wait for the next one!

Thank you to G. B. Bancroft for giving me the chance to read your book.

The mix of 1920s mafia vibes with fae magic is just chef's kiss. Nora and Imogen are total badasses😻 Nora’s soul-stealing powers and Imogen’s role as the leader of House Lust made their dynamic so interesting to follow. There’s action, intrigue, and a lot of tension. I will be honest and say that for the first 50% I almost dnfed 🤧 not because it was bad! It was actually really good, it was just slow and my attention span is at an all time low rn 😭 I also will say that miss gabby girl knows how to create one hell of a love story 🤭

I received an ARC of A sin so pure , so exciting !

I believe this is a fantasy novel to look for. It had a solid sense of world building without the drawn out fluff that makes the first half of the book hard to immerse myself in. That would honestly be my favorite bit. Faerie stories aren’t usually my fantasy hill to end on BUT this one subtly surprised me. I was hooked from chapter one.

Not to mention the lil touch of mafia to it !!? Where is this in the faerie stories that are super popular now ? A sin so pure is easily changing my opinion of fae and their attractiveness in stories for me , thank you Ms.Bancroft !

This book definitely pulled me in and had a hold on me from the very first page. The lore of this story and the world it is about is so unique and so well done. I constantly felt the draw to know more and it made it near impossible to put down. The writing of each of the characters made me so invested in what was happening that I was brought to tears several times. The last 6 chapters, especially, had me holding my breath and on the edge of my seat. My brain is just itching for the next book to see what's coming next. Beautifully written, loved the inclusivity. Such good spice, shocking plot twists.

Getting pulled into this magical world was a dream. Falling in love with the characters was easy...falling in love with the vibe was effortless. Twists and turns where you start to question if you wouldn't make the same morally questionable choices given the chance. The only thing that could make the wait for book two acceptable would be partying with the gang, wearing a fringe dress and sipping champagne.

this is actually one of my new favorite books I think. all the characters were so developed and I loved the found family dynamic. the take on the fae world is definitely one of my favorites I’ve ever read. I loved how it kind of combined different legends if that makes sense? so good. it’s very 1920’s era which made it so interesting and all of the world building was (as far as I could tell) flawless. the romance was full of tension and slow burn and kind of forbidden? either way, AMAZING I need a relationship like theirs. I genuinely don’t think there’s anything I didn’t like about this book and I need everyone to read it rn so we can fangirl please and thank you
as far as content warnings, there’s a little bit of spice but it’s fairly short and easy to skim through if that’s not your thing!! as to be expected for a mafia fae book, there’s some fairly graphic violence and gore so please be careful if that’s triggering 🫶 the main character is also an orphan and there are some mentions of parental death so please stay safe ily
the last six or so chapters had me on the edge of my seat, if I fail my history class it’s because of this book. the plot twist was indeed twisty (can you tell I’m writing this at midnight) and I’m so so excited for the next book!!!
thank you so much to the author for the earc in exchange for an honest review!!

Nora is no stranger to death. As a soul-stealer, she can kill with a single touch. Orphaned as a young girl, she was taken in by a cruel man, and raised to be his right hand. When opportunity came knocking, she jumped at the chance to usurp him and take over House Pride. A year later, Nora has come a long way, but the more she tries to expand the power and reach of her House, the more someone fights back from the shadows, destroying everything she's worked so hard to build. When they go a step too far and threaten the woman she loves, the woman in charge of House Lust, Nora vows she'll get her revenge.

While Nora operates more in the realm of morally gray, the woman she loves, Imogen, prefers to keep everything above ground. While Imogen's house deals in secrets, she prefers to be on the sidelines, and out of danger. She does her best to keep Nora grounded, but she can only do so much when Nora keeps herself closed off. She doesn't want to push, in case she pushes Nora away, instead of showing that she can be trusted with Nora's heart. Imogen could be the light to Nora's darkness, if only Nora would let her.

The romance between these two is cute at times, but only once they really allow themselves to go all in. Imogen knows that Nora is closed off, but they're both keeping secrets that could tear them apart. When Imogen is threatened, Nora is full speed ahead "touch her and die," and I love that for them. Honestly, the overarching plot wouldn't be the same without the relationship drama, and the perilous situations they often find themselves in. Nora is dead set on revenge, regardless of what it could cost her, but it's a well-deserved vengeance. The villain in this story makes everyone's skin crawl, and I was rooting for Nora from the beginning. Will everyone's secrets come to light, or will the villain be silenced before throwing Nora's world into chaos once more?

If you're not a cliffhanger fan, be aware that this book does end in one. I think that it ended well in spite of that, and I can't wait for book two!

If you’re ready for a story that lingers long after the final page, A Sin So Pure is the book you’ve been waiting for.

This is a character driven story that is slow to start, but fast to burn. I honestly loved the pace because it felt deliberate and allowed me to better immerse myself in the world. The 1920’s art-deco vibes definitely come through in the imagery, too, and I have such vivid pictures in my head of what everything looks like (which, personally, is a key factor in getting hooked to a fantasy book). I’m a little upset I can’t actually go grab a drink at the Den, but it is what it is ;)

Most importantly: I fell in love with the characters, each of them revealing pieces of myself in ways that felt both surprising and deeply comforting. Nora’s fierce, stubborn, and willing to do almost anything to protect those she loves, and I see a lot of myself in her — but I also connected deeply with Imogen in her path to self-actualization. I’m really looking forward to seeing how her path is laid out in book 2, especially considering how book 1’s crazy ending will likely affect her!

Together, Nora and Imogen give us the perfect amount of spice, romance, and a raw look at the realities of relationships where trauma and deep-seated tensions complicate every step. Plus, the sapphic representation is just *chef’s kiss* 🤌 I adore both of their relationships with Josie and their inner circles, and my oh my… Silas… I’m pretty sure he’s my favorite. The shooting range scene where they’re lying in the snow? UGH. Iykyk.

I truly think there’s something for everyone in this book: found family, magic, mafia, revenge, humor, violence, romance / spice, and the list goes on. I’m sure if you give it a chance, you’ll find a reason to be excited for what comes next :)

Disclosure: I’m a bit of a biased reviewer, as my best friend is the author of ASSP. I’ve had the joy of watching this story take shape from its earliest spark of inspiration to the novel it is today. Through countless late-night soundboard sessions and having the privilege of serving as an alpha reader, I’ve seen firsthand the passion and dedication woven into every chapter. This review comes with the added warmth of witnessing G.B Bancroft’s creative journey up close. To my fellow readers out there, I hope this story captures your heart as it did mine🫶

A Sin So Pure is an exceptionally unique, urban fae fantasy romance. G. B. Bancroft crafts an incredible world where the Seelie and Unseelie fae courts combine with gaslamp, mob settings. Furthermore, she bases the Unseelie court leaders on the seven sins and the Seelie court on the seven virtues.

Nora and Imogen are our two main characters. These two are distinct from each other and their duality really compliments their romance and their POVs. Nora is Pride and the embodiment of a strong mob leader. She is not afraid of violence and embraces revenge. Imogen is Lust and contrasts Nora. Imogen is soft, emotionally intelligent but no less incredible. Their romance is beautifully written. I appreciate how they are both flawed but choose each other and grow together. The dual POV was very well done.

The support characters are each unique. I really enjoyed Silas and Wrath. I cannot wait to see what Silas has planned in book 2. Despite the grit of a compelling 1920's revenge, each of the characters shows growth and vulnerability. The ligher moments between the entire cast are so well written.

The plot heavily revolves around Nora and her past. Bancroft paces the world building and backstory reveals well throughout the story. I found the world and plot to be both unique and easy to follow. The beginning of the story is a bit slow, but the pace is absolutely worth it for the incredible world and plot build up that Bancroft crafts. The plot accelerates into a fast-paced, high stakes ending. The last 100 pages provide several epic reveals. I cannot wait until the next book to see the consequences.

I really enjoyed this ARC! It has everything! High stakes, high tension, lovable characters and steamy romance. One of my favorite lores to make stories from are the seven deadly sins. There are so many ways to interpret them as titles and people.

This story mainly follows Nora aka Pride who is in a relationship with Imogen aka Lust. Pride would do absolutely anything to protect her. But she also has secrets of her own that even Lust doesn’t know. This is a great character driven story! The amount of development that Nora goes through was well thought out. I LOVED the romance, the way Nora and Imogen are there for one another is so sweet!

All of the relationships between all of the characters. It felt so genuine and organic. Nothing felt forced or awkward. I felt like I was a part of the group.

I think the world building was pretty solid, but I’m sure more will start to unfold when we get the next book. There were soooooo many questions I had at the end and the cliffhanger had me with my jaw on the floor. It definitely was a great setup for the next book, but at the same time how dare it be over!

My hopes for any upcoming books is that we get more insight on the other sins and virtues. There are so many possibilities for other main story lines! Great universe to dive into if the author wanted to do so.

Wow. Immediately adding this author to my favorites, and my list of auto-buys.

The prose is so polished, you can see your reflection in it. Smooth, crisp, concise, and perfectly nuanced. It's obvious a lot of work went into the writing and editing, because the word choice is immaculate. It's like the perfectly mixed drink that you forget has alcohol in it, because it's so good.

It's fairy courts. 1920s. Mafia. With morally gray characters, female rage, and wings. (Where is all of Booktok and why are they not salivating over this masterpiece?)

Do I love Nora or Imogen more? Yes. 😂

Nora is cold and full of rage. Imogen is finally giving herself permission to answer the question, "what do YOU want?" after a lifetime of going through the motions. They're dynamic, broken, and painfully relatable.

There's some spice, but it's not written like a sports play-by-play, (thank gods). It's tense, sensual and emotionally evocative without being repetitive or purely "smut for the sake of it."

It's the first book in a duology, and ends masterfully--with enough resolution and tension to feel satisfying and also to keep my claws ready for the next volume.

If you read one fairy book this year, read this one. And don't thank me, thank the incredible author when you're feral for her next book, too.

Ten stars. At least ten.

Firstly thank you so much to the author for this eARC 😍

Overall, the concept is really cool. The author was super clever with how sins and virtues are used to describe the Seelie and Unseelie courts. The characters, both main and side, had loads of depth and were really likeable and were absolutely the standouts for me. The story was good and don’t we love supporting women’s rights and women’s wrongs 👀

It’s a really unique vibe to a story: 1920s unseelie vs seelie, young women at the heads of their houses with a friends with benefits to lovers romance whilst dealing with politics and murder. Which, honestly? What’s not to enjoy!

This was unlike anything I’ve read before and it was definitely a ride. I think there was something missing for me but I’m unsure what it was. Did I enjoy the story and the characters? Heck yes. But do I feel emotionally attached to the characters and story? Not so much but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I still had a great time reading it and I think others will too.

If you enjoy a blend of the magical with 1920s vibes, urban fantasy, court politics with bi/lesbian romance, then this book is for you.

I received A Sin So Pure as an ARC and this is my honest review.

This was a slow burn all around but it was worth it! Without all of the background information, I would’ve been totally lost. I loved the world building! The fae world being hidden by a veil from the human world?? Genius. The fact that it is set in the ‘20’s was also fantastic. I loved imagining the style of the locations and the clothing of the time.

I thought the magic of this world was unique and interesting. The powers wielded by the Houses of the Sins aligned perfectly.

I like the dual POV between Nora and Imogen, having a glimpse into each of their thoughts brought the story together. I loved their relationship, how it built over time and wasn’t your usual “love at first sight” that many stories typically have.

The side characters add so much to the story. I really liked the bro-mance that develops. Silas is a delight and sounds like so much fun to be friends with. I think Josie and Leo could have their own little spinoff chapters. I’m excited to see what book two brings! I want Nora to have her vengeance!

This was such an interesting concept and story and I really enjoyed it!
The seelie and unseelie compromising the sins and virtues is a really cool take on arguably an over-done echelon of fantasy.

I will admit the plot twists were somewhat predictable but I still had a great time reading this book and seeing how they came to be.

THANK GOD THIS WASNT A LOVE TRIANGLE! I really love Nora and Imogen. When Silas first started getting comfortable with Nora I was worried it was going to turn into that territory and I probably would have given up on the book. In saying that if the author wants to write a book from Silas’ point of view later I will be absolutely SAT for it!

Where most books unravel world building at the start this book unravels the layers of the characters so I’m hoping we get more world building aspects later in the series just to add some more depth to the courts and the human realm.

The dialogue and banter is written in exactly the style I look for in my Romantasy stories and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for the release of book 2!

Thank you to the author for allowing me to read an ARC of this book. This is my honest opinion.

I was gifted a copy of A Sin So Pure and here is what I thought immediately after finishing….
Loved it!
Are you kidding me! I need the next book now!

I was hesitant going in because I have never read an Urban Fantasy book - I am a strict Romance Reader.

A Sin So Pure had everything I am looking for in a great read. Found family with a mafia-esque feeling, romance with spice, seriousness, humor, fun side characters that are just as complex as the main characters and bonus, it reads like a movie- I love being able to picture what I am reading so clearly- And at like 75% I knew the end was coming but didn’t want it to. Then the ending! What the heck G.B.! When is book 2?
ASSP reads in duel POV featuring Nora and Imogen.
Both badasses in their own right but Imogen stole my heart. I loved her empathy, softness and loyalty. She has a mature awareness of her self and what she wants, her decisions will resonate with many.
I think of Nora as a “caring possessive”. She’s the boss, feared and loved. She loves fiercely and she kills fiercely.

Full disclosure:
I’m a reader not a writer.
This is my first Urban Fantasy read.
G.B. Bancroft is my daughter.

This book was absolutely PHENOMENAL....
I've read books with houses.
I've read books with the seelie and unseelie courts.
I've read books based on the seven deadly sins.
But I have NOT ever read a book with all 3 + that's what makes this book so special.

Not to mention:
- found family
- 1920s ish vibes urban fantasy
- queer reps
- morally grey characters (ALL OF EM)
- with bad ass revenge plots

the way these characters all fit so well together... the banter, the love, the friendship. It was all just so well written and unlike anything I have ever read. It's so well paced, and the dual pov you get from both main characters is top tier. But I will always love dual pov... it's superior, imo lol. The magic system was super cool to learn about, and I'm very interested in where this story is gonna go.

I was gifted an arc for my honest opinion, and all thoughts are my own!
Thank you, GB Bancroft, for the arc opportunity! <3

I love when I am pleasantly surprised by an ARC. A Sin So Pure is G.B. Bancroft's debut novel. She describes the book as "Peaky Blinders meets the Unseelie Court and Seven Deadly Sins, and honestly yes. Also, make it sapphic.

Here's what I liked:
I very much loved that the MCs are late 20s/early 30s. The world is queer normalized and there was not coming out narrative. While I whole-heartedly agree that those books need to exist, I also believe that books that do not include these storylines are important. I thought Bancroft's use of Sins and Virtues as position of power titles was creative.

What I wish was different:
I like where the story is going, however I wanted what the author is building toward to occur in this book and it does not; it will come in the next book.

I enjoyed A Sin So Pure and look forward to book 2!

I really enjoyed this book! I found the magic system very interesting and unique, as I've never seen a magic system built on the seven deadly sins and incorporated fae! The world building was easy to follow and didn't make me feel confused at all. This book would be amazing for someone who is new to fantasy!

The writing style felt a little underdeveloped to me, and I think the pace could have gone a bit faster, as to include more major plot points into the length of the book, as I felt it was fairly slow-paced.

I loved the chemistry between Imogen and Nora! By the end of the book, I could clearly see their love and care for each other. Their relationship development felt so appropriate for their characters, and I loved that they communicated!!!

Overall, I would recommend this to someone who wants to read about a light fantasy world, with romance and loveable morally grey characters.

A Sin so Pure - G. B. Bancroft

I’ve read a few works, centering around the different sins and virtues however, this one truly stands out. I love the authors writing and the world building that went into the story. I love the 1920s setting, especially with all of the LGBTQ representation. I loved all the characters, especially Nora and Imogen and I can’t wait to see them again. I really enjoyed the twists and the hidden secret reveals. I really enjoyed this story and I can’t wait to start book 2.
