I think this one was the most fun of this little series. Hol horse is hilarious for many reasons but I love that he basically just learned to believe in himself. I was super excited to see D'arby show up again because his fight was one of my favorites from part 3. Dio is also terrifying from his perspective which is fun. I've also officially decided to adopt Josuke as my son. All in all a great time.

¿Cómo Dio reclutó a D'Arby?

Who finished Stardust Crusader’s and didn’t want more Hol Horse? If you say you did, you’re a clown and a sucker 🤡🍭 If I don’t like a gunslingin’ gentleman like Hol Horse, then my name ain’t lksreads. Boingo is here too, carrying his prophetic book Stand Tohth, which is playing a large role for the cousin of our never-forgotten Jo-bro, Noriaki Kakyoin. 🥹

Kind of expected trash and was very pleasantly surprised. This writer is clearly a big fan and “gets” it. The characters are very much themselves and the tone is very much that of a bizarre, Joestar adventure. Underneath of the Stand hunt, the story explores elements of shame and fear of Dio’s former rule, which is a really fun story to tell through Hol Horse and Boingo. Between his flashbacks of Dio and the Joestar party and the campy feel of Morioh, there’s a lot to enjoy.

The story expands just a little on Noriaki’s time as a Stardust Crusader as well. I’ll take all the Kakyoin screentime I can get🥹 Kakyoin, Hol Horse, and Boingo’s arcs all done very tastefully and drawn directly out of scenes from P3, with features from Dio, D’Arby, Enyaba and more. This mashup wasn’t without weaknesses - the plot is a bit jumbled - but it’s a darn fun addition, even if it isn’t canon.

Finally!! I got my hands on the final volume!!! It might be because it was a long time since I read vol. 2 but I feel like something is misssing?? I didn't get who the main antagonist was (I mean, I feel like the main antagonist was DIO all this time but, you know), and I wanted answers to why they stole the parrot in the first place? However it was a nice finale!! Hol Horse's development was really satisfying, and Ryoko making peace with Kakyoin's memories was very important to me. Ryoko and Josuke's dynamic is so great!!! I adore those two. Why Ryoko had to be displayed like that for most of the book is beyond me tho, couldn't they given her a jacket sooner oh my fucking God.

Not my favorite JoJo by far. This one is a bit confusing with all the illusions. Sometimes it was hard to tell what was real and what was an illusion. You really had to par attention.

Important! Watch the eyes, if they look like they have lots of holes in them then they are in the illusion/memory.

I think Ryoko was finally able to say goodbye and make peace with Kakyoin’s death.

A fitting end for the spin off, Oingo faces his fear, Ryoko faces her guilt and gets past it, Hol horse also faces his fear and comes to know that he can change and Josuke is just Josuke and I also like how it ties to the main timeline with ryohei calling Joseph, a quick read if you want more Jojo.

Opera d'arte, grande spinoff.

This spinoff was a solid run overall. It’s cool that the events of this mini adventure kick off the events of Part 4. The villain was weak, but overall it was good.

Ooch. The first two were really good, but this last one is more than just a disappointment and dampen the whole experience. In the end, we never get to know how the antagonist got his hands on the bird, how he knew about it, and the justification to explain how he can use his stand (I remind you: based on the parrot memory) is that he made it swallow a bit of his ear and it linked him to it. Look, Jojo isn't stranger to explanations that are out there but this is a bit much, especially when animals using stand have already been shown to be able to act on their own multitude time (Iggy, Pet Shop, Mushikui...). We also have 0 explanation on how Pet Sound survived Hol Horse shot with no wound.

We have this whole explanation of how Pet Sound stand works, (it makes a sound based on a memory and makes your live this memory) but then when the Kakyoin girl is under it's influence, pointing a gun at herself, she doesn't have a vision relevant to what she is doing, she is... In the past? Talking to Kakyoin? It's a very confusing scene that comes from nowhere and have 0 explanation where she finally frees herself from her guilt over Kakyoin death because he tells her he was weak..... That's definitely a choice.
Also my opinion on her never changed since the first book: she is really uninteresting, being a distraction from the main plot, and she could've been removed from the story altogether. We could've get more Boingo instead.

And it completely retcon Thot being a stand that can only predit near futur. Now it's an independent thing with it's own will and it litteraly made a prophecy that did not happen. It lied because it wanted to quite litteraly manipulate the events.

So,.yeah. A huge disappointment.
