This story was a wild ride. When it picks up boy does it pick up and throw some twist and turns at you that I definitely did not see coming. I’d give this a 3.5. The writing style was new to me. But I did enjoy it and again was shocked throughout this story.

The story follows Emily & Steven who are husband and wife. Emily’s got a past with her alcoholic mother, and she vows to be nothing like her mother when she’s a mother. Steven begins working long hours, late nights which leads Emily to believe something is happening. Cue, Monica whom is Steven’s ex that he hires for his firm which reignites an old flame. Then, Emily finds herself pregnant. Emily knows more than what she lets on but you’ll see as the story goes on she keeps it in her back pocket until she wants to use it.

Emily is faced with a hard reality during her author career and quite literally walks in on something. She numbs this with alcohol and it’s a downhill spiral from there.

The twist and turns this story take are wild and I didn’t see them coming. It’s a story of revenge.

I would recommend this if you’re looking for a short read and are looking for some shock throughout a story that deals with alcoholism and loss.

This novel is raw, powerful, and beautifully written. Emily’s journey from a picture perfect life into the shadows of addiction, betrayal, and emotional turmoil is portrayed with such honesty that it’s impossible not to feel every moment alongside her. The author tackles difficult subjects with courage and sensitivity, balancing darkness with resilience and hope. It’s not just a story it’s an emotional experience that lingers long after the last page. A gripping and unforgettable read that I wholeheartedly recommend.

This novel is a powerful and emotionally gripping story of love, privilege, and devastating betrayal. Emily’s descent from a picture-perfect life into addiction and mental anguish is raw, honest, and hauntingly realistic. Dark, compelling, and deeply human, it’s a bold read that lingers long after the final page.

I ordered this book mainly because the author and myself live in the same township. I enjoyed the storyline but I'm not sure it needed the sexual parts and the swearing but again good storyline. Very fast reading.
