Have you ever felt like you were…different? Like you were on the verge of discovering some monumental secret about yourself, only to wake up and find out it was all just a dream?
That’s how Maeve Sparrow feels, only it’s not a dream.
Vampires, fae, and shapeshifters do in fact exist. Her boyfriend Caspian is a 240-year-old vampire, and his brothers and “father” are all vampires as well, and even older.
She’s probably a vampire herself. Or, she’s SOMETHING, at least. Something not normal, and definitely not mortal.
When she does learn the truth, it's far stranger than she could have imagined.
She’s no ordinary girl. She’s not even an ordinary immortal.
There are secrets waiting to be revealed—secrets that will change not just Maeve’s life and future, but everyone’s…mortals and immortals alike.

What a crazy whirlwind of knowledge. Maeve asked, and she more than received a full-on body dive of learning about her past, upbringing, and current life. Just when you think you can not handle any more of this saga, it just gets better and better. So much story, it's hard to put this book down until you finish it!
Wow!!!!! What a whirlwind wind of a story. Fast paced and a thorough recap of the first book. Mauve learns about herself, her mother all while on the run. Bring on more.
When I picked up book one in this series I had no idea what to expect, in fact, I had no idea there would be more in the series. But, once I finished book 1 I was thrilled book 2 was about to come it out because I needed more! lol
This continuation of Maeve & Caspian's story is so action packed you won't be able to put it down. Plus we meet so many new characters that are all amazing in their own right. I am a lover of the romantasy genre simply because there are no rules! With magic EVERYTHING is possible!
I loved the first book in this series blood heir and this one was just as amazing! I cannot say enough about the authors writing! She’s amazing about painting a picture in your head and making you feel like you’re driving down the same road or in the home of the characters. The same goes for the interactions and I mean every interaction the characters go through. Read this story and you’ll know what I mean. This story continues from where was left off in book one and Maeve is finding things about herself that she never thought possible. I can’t wait to see where the story goes. I hope it doesn’t take too long for the next book release. Until then I’ll be rereading the story again.
Absolutely loved book two in the Blood Heir series. I need way more of Maeve and Caspian and the Coven. Cannot wait for book three and see the explosions.
I was really dissapointed with this sequel...the story really devolved.
1) The book felt like a novella. It was super short. There is a fairly long summary of the first book that is counted in the included page count.
2) Similar to the first book, there was a lot of telling and not showing. So much of this story is just dialogue and explanations of things. And the dialogue often goes off course; multiple times characters were saying things like "let's get back on track." Just so much unnecessary talking and tidbits. I'd rather move the plot forward; this book is too short to be digressing so many times.
3) Lots of plot-holes. - The whole premise of how these immortal creatures (fae, vampires, shifters) have never had hybrid children, when its 100% biologically possible (as the heroine, Maeve, proves), doesn't make sense. The author tries to explain the reason as due to the fear of the unknown, but that just doesn't make sense to me. The author even says that "interracial" marriages happen...so for all these interracial marriages, the loving couples never just decided - or even accidentally - had children? They're so desperate for hybrid children that they have to literally force - through rape - people to have them? No volunteers? No people willing to get paid to have hybrid children...nothing throughout all these centuries?
- It's super bizarre to me that hundreds of years old people do not know anything about how the other races behave. We're told in book 1 that the races have interacted with each other, fought together in wars, even married each other...so it doesn't make sense. For example, the vampires harness energy via blood, fae harness it through vitality?, and shifters harness it through....we don't know yet. Why? Because we haven't met a shifter yet and apparently races only know about themselves. In book 1, none of the vampires knew how fae harnessed energy. And then in this book, we speak to a fae and find out...but when asking the 500-year old fae about the shifters, again...they don't know.
4) Weird / unclear romantic and sexual relationships. I don't like whatever is going on with Maeve and her sexual partners at all. I wish the author just committed to reverse harem rather than have this mess. We're told Caspian is basically her soulmate (bloodmate), while the others are just...friends with benefits? Idk. We're also told that there are clear boundaries...and that Maeve just 'gets' it and knows how to not cross them...but we're just told that and never actually see evidence of that or get explanations of how that works in practice.
In another plothole - in book 1...we're told that one boundary is that Maeve can only have sex with other people as long as Caspian is present. But then in this book, Finn requests (sexual) "alone time" with Maeve and she accepts and it's not considered an issue. It just seems like Maeve can do whatever...there's no jealousy at all...and it's really killing the romance aspect for me. I feel like this book's plot isn't "epic fantasy enough" to be lacking in the romance department.
In my opinion, it would be a whole lot better - assuming Maeve is to have multiple sexual partners - for them to all have equally loving relationships with her...
5) Repetitive actions. This whole book was basically just rinse and repeat of fae enforcers attacking Maeve.
6) Maeve became overpowered way too quickly , all of the sudden able to defeat the most powerful and elite hundreds-years-old immortals days after learning what she is.
7) Maeve kept on shouting, "I'M A VAER" (vampire/fae hybrid) while fighting ...which was so cringy.
Again, for this second book in the series, it was also done with Audible's Virtual Voice Narration. I still have the same feelings about it as I did during the first book - just not impressed.
This book takes off immediately after the end of the first book when Maeve is faced with the realization that there is another world that she has not been aware of and her mother was apparently NOT what she seemed either.
A lot is thrown at Maeve in a very short amount of time. This book is actually very fast paced with events taking off quickly and once the pace takes off, it doesn't really slow down.
Notice - I am going to go into a couple of issues that I had with the story in specifics - so here is the **SPOILER WARNING*** there will be some possible spoiler information so please use caution if you have not read this book yet......
Part of the benefit of the faster pace is that you do not really have time to seriously think about some of the "plot holes" that exist within the story - and there are many. But, if you just decide to jump in and try to enjoy the ride, it is full of action. Yes, somehow this 18 year old girl who JUST found out she isn't mortal is somehow able to do things that she shouldn't be able to do. Things that people centuries older than her have taken ages and ages to learn. Somehow, all of these "elite" guards that are sent after her - well, she just defeats all of them. See....part of the "don't think too hard" bits.....
Another thing that I REALLY had to ignore was the fact that somehow Maeve had been unknowingly on the run with her mother her entire life - never living anywhere more than 6 months - in order to stay hidden from the Tribunal, yet they never changed her name. The Sparrow name was important - her grandfather was over a thousand years old and on the Council and yes, his last name was Sparrow as well - but they never changed her name? THEY WERE SUPPOSEDLY HIDING.
When her mother (who also never changed her name) is killed Maeve lives on her own for a short period of time before her father comes for her. She is in the same house at the same address that the police use to notify her of her mother's death, under the same name, in the SAME school, yet she is not discovered. Again, things to not think too hard about....
And yet, once they discover her, they all of a sudden know EXACTLY where she is at all times. They find her on the road, then again when they run to a "Vampire Haven" that is a safehouse that the vampires have kept secret for centuries. They somehow know IMMEDIATELY everything about her all of a sudden - it all was a little TOO drastic - but, again, definitely action packed and exciting.
So, I think I like the fact that the books themselves are short and fast paced. Things happen rapidly and it does tend to pull you in - so, onward I go......
An absolutely unputdownable follow up book to Blood Heir, which needs to be read before this, even though there is a lengthy reminder of what happened and gives a good background story for this new book.
At the end of Blood Heir we left Maeve Sparrow unsure of just who or what she was. She'd found herself in a strange world of vampires after moving in with the person she thought was her father, who she had never met, after her mother died. She is utterly attracted to Caspian at her new school, who turns out to be a vampire and is living in a family coven along with 3 other vampires. Caspian becomes her boyfriend but even more so, her mate. She has formed a bond with him, but that bond has also extended to his family coven. Jealously is not a thing in a vampire coven, which is a good thing as she finds herself attracted to all 4 of them, needing the other 3 as well as Caspian.
After her mating with Caspian and her bonding with all 4 of them it is very apparent that Maeve is not a human, she is definitely a magical being, but what kind?
In this book we find out a lot of background surrounding the vampire, shifter and fae worlds and how they are unable to breed to repopulate their own species. Maeve could well turn out to be the saviour of all three species, but not without a massive fight for her life and that of the 4 vampires she is attached to.
Lots of action, suspense, secrets, politics, violence and magic as Maeve has the fight of her life on her hands with all 3 species! Lots of hot steamy passion as well, mainly with Maeve and Caspian on their own. A real cliffhanger of an ending though! A gripping read from start to finish as Maeve comes to grips with what she is and what she must do to have a shot at a future with Caspian. Highly recommended reading for any PNR fans.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy "BLOOD RISING" This is an awesome paranormal romance that hooks you right from the start dealing with emotional turmoil, grief, loss, intrigue, steamy scenes, addicting with a twists that will blow you away. Maeve Sparrow lived with her mother & never knew her father, her mom never talked about him, her mom moved around alot until she was in a car accident leaving her with nothing & no one until a man shows up claiming to be her father. Caspian is gorgeous, he meets Maeve when her father brings her to a small town in Michigan to live, she's drawn to him heart & soul something inside stirs her when he's around & not just him but his family as well but it's stronger with him. I definitely recommend to get this phenominal well written paranormal romance the connection between Maeve & Caspian is all consuming, scorching hot, what will happen when she finds out who they are it's a whole different world for her, the characters pull you right into all the intense drama, you need to get this book to see how everything turns out. PHENOMINAL INTRIGUING, INTERESTING, PARANORMAL ROMANCE 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤
I don't even know where to start. I mean I could run through a ton of adjectives. Let's see, incredible, amazing, phenomenal....blah, blah, blah. A totally ridiculous way to describe this book. Quite frankly, for someone who's written the amount of reviews as I have for years, I can't come up with one. Five stars, nah, doesn't cut it. This book is totally mind blowing. Jasinda Wilder consistently delivers books that will touch every single emotion. A rollercoaster of feelings. Your mind will constantly be on alert, anticipating the next shock, the next move. You'll question the decisions made by the characters. Only to see everything pan out and then seal tight with a pretty bow. But, through everything, you'll feel the love, chemistry, understanding and strong bond as it dances from one character to another. Then in the end, you'll sit and ponder all you've taken in with one single word, "Wow." Because nothing else encapsulates what you've experienced. You could read this as a standalone. But don't....read Blood Heir first.
Intense, captivating, incredible insight of this world...
I want to create a portal to this world, slide into it and live in it, even as I feel the current of lethal danger. Should I? No. Would i? Absolutely. Leave myself a path back to the portal? Necessary. I liked the first Blood Heir book, I am enthralled by this one. I want to gather magic and compell Jasinda Wilder to publish the next book, NOW. The world building of the immortal beings is so complex, the vivid history, the new twists and details of these beings alone are reasons to read this series. Erotic hot scenes set fire to the pages. Character arcs are bridges begging to be crossed. Conflict continuously grows. Characters leap out the pages. If you would like this reality, right now, to be so much more, a world with magic and immortals blended into human history then read this series. Devour it.
The book starts with a thorough recap of the first books, which I appreciated since it had been a while since I finished it.
This book picks up right where the last one ends. We learn so much about Mauve’s past and what her mother went through. She learns about Andreas and most importantly she learns about herself.
This story is a non stop action packed journey with Mauve and Caspian running from the tribunal, all while trying to navigate and come to terms with everything she’s learned.
This book is spicy and action packed. It’s definitely an amazing follow up to the first and I cannot wait to find out what happens next!
It does end on a cliffhanger, but the last one just came out! So grab this series and hang on for the ride!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. This is the 2nd book in the Blood Heir series. Each book in this PNR must be read in order. This book picks up where the first ends, and it does end on another cliffhanger. Maeve is just starting to learn who and what she is. She hasn't even come to terms or learned much about her abilities when she finds out the Tribunal is after her. She will do everything she can to keep from being caught, even if it means hurting hundreds of people. Loved that the beginning of the book gave a great recap of the first book. Can't wait for the next book.
I have went through chapters of this book trying to get into it. It seems like its inspired by the twilight series but jt jumps so quickly to different scenes that im stuck wondering if shes dreaming or if its actually happening. It was really hard to follow the story line. It has a good foundation but it jumps back and forth to dream and reality so much that it made me skip to the last chapter only to find it still doing the same thing…
What in the twilight-trueblood-underworld-stranger things hell did I just read? This was chaotic as fuck. This seemed to be a mashup of several different movies all put into this book and didn't feel original at all. Even with all the action, I was bored AF with all the over-explaining of everything. And even with all the explanations on vampire and fae history, some stuff still was left out and/or made no sense. Just seemed WAY overcomplicated.
Maeve has alot of figuring out to do. She learns about her history, and finds her role for the future. Lots of action and standoffs with powerful beings, and lots of passion and finding connections with her new family. And for anyone who didn't read Book #1 or forgot what happened, the first opening chapter does an excellent job bringing the reader up to speed. Recommend this series
Wow! I loved the first book so I was excited to dive into this one. Maeve is changing and so is Caspian and his coven. The road to discover the truth is not an easy one, and certainly painful in many ways, but she has to do what's right not what she wants, and not only for herself. Devoured this book and the ending only left me wanting more immediately. Can't wait for the next book!
A new immortal species and the war brought on by fear, ignorance and maintaining the status quo. If one doesn’t move forward one stagnates. The same for the species involved. This is as relevant in today’s clime as in the series. I can’t wait for the next installment! Highly recommend!
JW writes urban fantasy as well as good old fashioned romance novels. From Badd to Goode, to Vaer it’s all really REALLY GOOD!
Maeve & Caspian are on the run from the IIRC & The Tribunal. Andreas (her pseudo father) and the rest of her coven are running distraction. The race is on, the authorities are throwing everything they’ve got to capture Maeve.
Blood Rising is book 2 in the Blood Heir series by Jasinda Wilder. This is a great paranormal romance. It is an emotional read, full of grief, loss and some great steamy scenes. I really loved this book and can’t wait for the next one!
This book was even better than the first book. It starts off slow with the long recap but then you can’t wait for what happens next. It was an enjoyable almost twilight romance. Good writer
I could not put this down. Edge of my seat reading. I knew I was In Trouble when the pages were turning faster than the story. Cliffhanger!! This series is so freaking good and I can’t wait for the next book!
My goodness talk about cliffhangers! This book was all parts love story building, healing from loss, and growth. Also, so much action. I don’t know how they do it but the pages feel like something addictive that you have a hard time putting down. Can’t wait to read what happens next!
Ok, this book is much better than the first and gives me a new field of books to try. These are stand-alone books, but you really should read the first one to get the full background.
