I was there to work! Period! No distractions. No interruptions. And absolutely no disruptions.

This unfortunate realization turned out to be a Grade A distraction for me.
An insane interruption to my focus and concentration. 
Hmmm... what did it all mean?
She didn't even need glasses, let alone those horrible ones? 
And those dowdy clothes? A woman had to go to a lot of trouble to find stuff that dreadful. Any store selling such hideous garments would have gone bankrupt a long time ago. 
So what now?

This book was a bit of a hot mess. I almost DNFd it but ended up skimming probably 50%+. The writing at times was very stiff and awkward.

First of all the h was a bit of a ditz at times and emotionally immature. He was a bit of a mind bending manipulator. The h was always crying - it was so odd. And instead of them talking things out he’d think about it and be like… I’ll just let her stew on it. She had a crush on him and he knows it which he further manipulates.

The premise I liked was she was hiding herself under drab clothes and he suddenly sees through the facade… but it sounded more like he was incredibly not observant and it didn’t really work.

Both Maddy and Hunter were likeable characters, which is always a winner. Whilst the whole boss and his secretary narrative felt a little cliche, the story line was handled well and encouraged you to will the two characters to fall in love. A good page turner.

My complete enjoyment of this book was marred by some skeptic moments of emotion whiplash and persona inconsistencies that bumped me from immersion in the narrative and characters into head shaking moments of “He did what now?” or “She did what now?”
I like this trope and the general storyline, I've also read and enjoyed other books from Iana Rose. What bumped me from being involved were the contradictions in their actions and personalities that couldn’t be reconciled in my head. Hunter is supposed to be very canny, observant, and considerate. Yet he couldn't see beyond his assistant’s poor fashion choices After all this time observing her? I’d believe it if he was more clueless and less analytical, but he’s not.

Madison is supposed to be a frump with no sex appeal, very buttoned down and in control of her crush on Hunter. But there's a moment in the story where I experienced whiplash at her personality change and total about face of emotion regulation, ostensibly because she was drunk, then later because she was hungover. For me it just wasn't believable and detracted from my involvement in the story.
Some of Hunter's reactions put him outside the realm of attracted by her and into the realm of coldly analyzing her like a pinned butterfly. And there were scenes in the car they were riding in together where Madison was texting her bestie about sleeping with him. However, I only realized after the fact that she wasn't speaking out loud; the text didn’t change in any way to clue me in that this was a text message and not live dialogue. So I thought she was saying this to her bestie in Hunter’s presence and wondered what was wrong with her.
They were staying in a suite with separate bedrooms, each with a connecting door, a door to a common living area, and also separate entrances. And this was something that was emphasized. Both Hunter and Madison were very particular about using the outside entrances and not the connecting doors to the bedrooms. But at one point apparently Hunter forgot this and walk directly into her bedroom for no reason.
Still, I stayed involved enough to finish the book and write this review. But it was touch and go for awhile. That being said, I'd still read Rose’s next book. But it would have been nice to see these inconsistencies as well as typos ironed out before publication.

There’s a saying that goes, “the clothes make the man”. In this instance, it’s the lack of clothes that makes the woman. Madison has frumped herself up to keep her job. She had to make herself look unappealing to her boss. Not because he would hit on her. Nope. Quite the opposite. The previous secretaries would throw themselves at Hunter and go to great lengths to beautify themselves. Hunter’s not looking to have a social life. He wants to be all business. So HR got the bright idea when the ideal candidate for the position walked in to experiment. It all worked well until Madison slipped getting out of the shower and Hunter came to the rescue and definitely got a good look at what she’d been hiding.

I couldn’t help but laugh at poor Madison. She had been doing so well until that accident. She is a bit of a Penelope Pitstop throughout the book and I felt bad for her because none of it was really her fault. Thankfully, Hunter is there to help her out and keep her close and come to her rescue, even though a few times he caused the accident. They have an undeniable chemistry and they work together as a team. She’s extremely efficient and he needs that and I think that aids in the mutual attraction. I think he felt just as bewildered at times as she did because he wasn’t used to having a loving partner and vice versa.

I wasn’t really fond of Hunter in a few places and he seemed to be a bit too commanding for my liking but it fits with the overall theme. Madison was a catastrophiser at times. That irked me but I recognize the anxiety symptoms and in her situation I can’t blame her but she really needed to chill out or see a doctor.

There was one incident that might trigger you and involves alcohol but nothing happens and the potential for something serious is prevented before they left the dinner table.

Overall, it was a solid story. I enjoyed it.

Ooh - there was a lot going on here!
Madison has worked for Hunter for 6 months when they take a business trip to Thailand for a conference. She's been the perfect assistant since the beginning, though her wardrobe is hideous. Where does she get such unattractive clothing?
But after an awkward accident in her hotel bathroom, Hunter realizes what the clothes have been hiding - a very attractive woman. Who now occupies his every thought. What would make her hide herself that way?
In truth, Hunter had had a couple of assistants who had used their looks to try to come on to him, which was very distracting and extremely unwanted. Instead, Madison had gone to the other extreme by making herself as unattractive as possible. Not to mention how well she did her job. He doesn't really know what he would do without her now. His growing attraction notwithstanding.
Over the next few days, though, nothing seems to go right. Madison can't seem to stop making mistakes, and the tension between them is growing, and not in a good way.
Can they get past their preconceptions, or are they destined to be boss and assistant forever?
This was an interesting story, providing plenty of cringe worthy moments, and even some corporate intrigue. Add in Madison's crazy, nosy friend, and a very pushy business contact, and there's no shortage of twists and turns here.
Definitely one of a kind and sometimes frustrating! But entertaining and sweet too. A fun read!

A mixed bag

I liked this story, even though I swear I just read another book with the exact same concept of the secretary dressed completely frumpy in order to keep her job. Though it did veer off from there.

There were times I liked Hunter, I thought he was self aware and was willing to make changes in his life for Madison. On the other hand, there were times he was an emotional terrorist! He knew he could clear things up for her when she was hurt or that she was insecure about things that he could fix with a word but he would just hold it back to see how long it would take her to crack. Who does that?

I had a lot of sympathy for Madison. Between her demanding job and being in love with her boss while having what she thinks is a short term affair I felt so bad for her. I would an emotional wreck and hunter didn’t exactly make it any easier for her.

Heads up that the writing was a bit… odd. There were a lot of sentences that didn’t really make sense or words used incorrectly. I don’t know much about this author but I think English might not be their first language. They should invest in a good editor because it was kind of distracting.

One Bossy Night is a charming and a page-turning story. One Bossy Night has amazing characters who are quite entertaining. I would most definitely encourage anyone to read this well-written romance story. This is the first book I have read by author Iona Rose and I’m for sure going to check out more of her books.

I totally fell in love with Hunter ❤️

I really liked the story of Madison and Hunter, they started with a work relationship where she falls in love with him and he already has bad experiences with his previous secretaries because they crossed his professional boundaries. But an event causes everything to change and he begins to see her with different eyes.

Hunter is the healthiest thing in the world, how he always thought about things and saw to her safety and protection, I loved it. Without a doubt the best boyfriend in the world.

Madison, on the other hand, is the opposite, she lets herself be carried away by her emotions and although she prioritizes Hunter's needs more, she also leaves aside what really matters. I didn't really like that Hunter was always the one to take the first step and that he was always sure of their relationship, while she let herself be overcome by difficulties.

Despite everything, I enjoyed it a lot and despite having more than 50 chapters, these are short and read super quickly.

It's hard not to be drawn into Iona’s romances and I look forward to each new book. This one is a classic office romance with a definite ugly duckling vibe, a grumpy boss and long-suffering PA. Madison has heard Hunter complain about his former personal assistants hitting on him and distracting him from his work, so she puts on thick glasses and dresses like a nun to make sure she dazzles Hunter with nothing but her efficiency. Who knew a spider could bring all that tumbling down! Not only does Hunter see what she’s been hiding, but it ignites an irresistible spark. When one drink too many releases Madison’s pent-up desires, their relationship will never be the same. I really liked Maddy, though I thought she was often a bit of a mess, while Hunter was sometimes a bit too business-like and standoffish, which only begs the question, could two such opposites truly make it work?

Ok ‘office’ romance. One of the things I liked in the story was that, initially, Madison has covered up her ‘assets’ in an effort to appear unattractive and frumpy as Hunter has had issues with his PAs in the past. However her true self is revealed on a business trip to Thailand. The story is a reasonable read, but Hunter is somewhat cold and a difficult character to like which fails to raise this romance above average. I liked Madison for the most part although she does get a tad irritating on occasions. All the romantic elements are there, but generally the story fails to gain any traction or produce any real surprises. A reasonable read, with a cute HEA – just not one of Iona Rose’s best.

OK, this book was one of those books to where it was good in the beginning and then it got towards the end so I will say it was good but not great. That’s why I gave it four stars. another than that in the beginning this book was hard to put down but I say towards the end I think I would be able to put this down but I read through it because I was like oh let’s get this finish and yes, I did finish it, but I just wish there was more however, other than that this book was good and yes, I would recommend it because it was a good reading in the beginning, but I might disappoint you towards the end so it literally depends if you wanna feel that that’s up to you

Hunter wasn’t expecting the woman of his dreams to literally fall at his feet and it’s his assistant. What do they do? I loved the story and the characters. Will Madison and Hunter finally get a HEA? Hunter wasn't interested in office romance. Work was for getting things done and romance was for off hours only. Madison dressed ultra-conservatively out of respect for that.

It wasn't until Madison fell in the bathroom after showering and Hunter was the only one available to help her that he realized just how attractive his Assistant really was. Now what? He can't unsee what he saw and when they're both attracted to each other, romance ensues, including a baby.

Enjoy the rest of the story as you read the book. It's a good one!.

Enjoyable Read!

This is a good story to read. Thoroughly enjoyable on how both of these characters work together in the office & how Madison gives off the vibes of looking like a frumpy middle-aged teacher & to keep Hunter’s office schedule running smoothly. She may be hiding her true feelings for him to herself but with her best friend’s encouragement, she blossoms. Is Hunter blindsided or will he be prepared to have his heart captured by someone so intriguing & knowing how important his business is to him?

CAUTION only read this book if you are into office romance with some intense HEAT. I thought the way Hunter looked at his assistant Madison was funny because he judged her by her looks and not what was underneath everything at first. :) It just shows you that you can't judge a book by its cover as they say. Awesome story about two opposite type people whose lives are so far apart yet they are falling in love with each other.

This is a well written office romance with strong characters in Hunter and Madison. The author takes you into their lives with an opposites attract romance and growing love. She tells the story in the dual POV and paints her scenes perfectly, moving the story fluidly. I enjoyed reading their story.
