A broken heart, four sexy strangers, and a road trip that changes everything.
Friday Catching my boyfriend cheating was the final straw. I thought I had everything together, but now, my life is in shambles. With nothing left to lose, I’m ready to take on whatever comes next, even if that is a spontaneous road trip with four ridiculously sexy strangers. It’s all fun and games until I start noticing things—like how one of them isn’t quite... human. When they claim I’m their mate, everything I thought I knew gets flipped upside down. Am I ready to embrace a world I never imagined existed, or will I run from the only chance I have at finding something real?
This is book one in the Fighting Fate Series. This series is complete. The books must be read in order.
This series is part of the Arcane Bloodlines Universe.
In reading the blurb, I was a little skeptical of this one just because it seemed a little far fetched.. I mean who decides to go on a road trip with four strange men? With no specific destination in mind... just driving to wherever..? But it was late and I needed something to read so I figured I'd give it a shot.... I'm really regretting that decision. DNF at like 50%
Friday finds her boyfriend cheating on her and leaves him. Her car breaks down and she ends up walking to a small town where things progressively continue to go down hill. While staying at a motel, she meets four strangers and eventually their leader invites her to join them on a road trip to nowhere in particular.
Up until about the 50% mark, it isn't that bad. Then things speed up and she's is hopping in a car with four strangers... AND THEN after only spending one day traveling with them After all that weirdness, the author does a whole info dump and my eyes started crossing and I decided that I was over it.
So ya.. no thanks. Would not recommend. In fact, I am actively telling you to not waste your time unless you like TSTL heroines and weird creepy dudes.
But I'll never know, because the formatting is so bad I can't actually read it. There is a space before and after every, single apostrophe. So you get -didn ' t- and -I ' m- in the middle of a sentence, and your eyes take a weird break like you're stuttering while you read. I managed less that one chapter before I gave up. Fix your formatting and I'll try again.
This was a great first book in this series. I just finished reading it and immediately downloaded book 2. I want to know more about Friday! I also love Callan and Lenny. I’m hoping with these other books that I’ll love Alec and Maddox too, but I’m just not there yet. ;)
Finding Friday is sexy and fun, a fast read with plenty of steam, a snappy voice that nails the snark, and a tough and relatable heroine who knows what she wants. This was my first reverse harem book and Quell T. Fox didn't disappoint! I enjoyed all of the characters and am interested to see what's up next in the series.
The characters were very 2 dimensional. A lot was told but not shown. I didn't really like the h either. I got the first 3 books as Amazon freebies so I'll probably read those eventually.
I like Friday and her personality, most of the time. The guys are still enigmas, it really didn't happen much in this book. Just laid a thin foundation for the story and a huge cliffhanger at the end. The cliffhanger is almost the only reason why I wanna read the next book.
There's still a lot we don't know about the paranormal aspect, just small tidbits of information about what the guys are.
The FMC seems dumb and ditzy. I still have no clue what a “circle” is. How do they know they are part of one if they have humans for parents? How does she not know about it? Just no world building, poor character development, and lacks any real substance for the story. I think I’m going to try book 2 to see if maybe it explains more, but if not, I’m not going to finish this series.
I read this after asking for PNR recs on a RH group on FB and the author herself recommended her books. The blurb pulled me in and I am a sucker for anything paranormal and I liked how there were multiple books in this series.
I believe this book was purely used as a baseline for the other books in the series, it’s basically a stepping stone. We don’t actually find out any real information about any of the characters pasts although it’s mentioned briefly throughout they all had rubbish childhoods. I liked the mystery surrounding their pasts, including the prophecy/Oracle etc. we literally have no idea what is going to happen and I kind of like that.
There are a lot of cliches in this story so far (the fuckboy, the goofy one, the nerdy virgin and the angry loner), their powers/supernatural abilities are interesting and we haven’t actually really seen them being used yet.
There wasn’t a lot of character development HOWEVER that’s because I believe this book was just a jumping off point. I’m hoping we get some great character development in the next few books.
I know from other reviews people have an issue with her going off with these guys after not knowing them long but remember people, this is a PARANORMAL book, they are MATES and although we don’t know what/who Friday is she knows deep down she can’t go anywhere without them. Realistically this is a stupid thing to do but this isn’t reality and it’s a book about MATES who literally can’t be without each other so she feels that pull towards them even after a short time.
I think a lot of these reviews are too harsh and are forgetting what genre they are reading.
A lot of this is inner monologue stuff which personally I like. We get snippets but obviously we will learn more going forward about them, hopefully through both conversations and inner dialogue.
I don’t know how people don’t like Maddox yet, he’s totally my type haha. I hope we see more about Alec soon as I want to know what happened to him. But considering the next one is called Finding Callum I’m going to guess we are getting the nerdy virgins story next which I’m totally ok with because I think he is super adorable and I want to adopt him.
I think just because I felt this was a bit cliche and a bit predictable is the only reason I couldn’t give it 5* but I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.
The closest way I can describe this is with the words Frat Boys. The characters were very annoying, main character included. Very frat boy - esque feelings from this one.
This was kinda terrible, it ended abruptly but also everything about this book just dragged on, no purpose to the plot, no good storyline, the heroes and heroine weren’t really fleshed out right. It was good at first but bc of the lack of plot, it just ended up being a boring read. Every single movement/action of the heroine was written, for no reason and it added nothing to the story- Just for the word count probably. This whole book was just filler sentences. No sense of direction or world building. I enjoyed it at first but the quirkiness of the story became boring.
Can't get into a story where you hate the main character. She is not the least likeable. Good at excuses for her crappy behavior. I've seldom had a book I couldn't get into at all. I think it's more a teen book where they find this type of person somebody they want to be like. Kind of like the show on the Kardisians.
Great story! Amazing characters. Please please please write the next one. I have to know more about Alec. I need to know how this romance ends!!!! I loved this so much. You're a great writer. Keep doing what your doing!
Just realized that although I rated this book, I forgot to review it. I adored this book. I loved Friday and her guys and can't wait to see what happens next!
So TBH the first 3 books are kind of running together in my mind because I read them all in one day, a few days ago. Obviously, I enjoyed the series so far to read all 3 of those in one day! However, do note that this review kinda mixes them together.
The is reminiscent of sweet RH vibes, a la my fav Kathryn Moon's Sweet Omegaverse . There is the added multi-paranormal aspect which I find interesting. It's honestly not a paranormal-heavy plot until later in the series, and it very much reads as a standard RH romance in Book 1 most of the time.
So Friday starts off a really neat character in Book 1. She's leaving her cheating ex, trying to restart her life, but everything's going wrong. She resists Maddox's interest at first, which was very refreshing. She's like, "Uh, this is weird, who is this guy." TBH I hate how she treated the gas station guy, who was very sweet and could have added more to the story. However, she's starting to get my nerves in Book 4. I had the same problem with the Kit Davenport series, where the female MC just gets boring and only thinks about sex, even during important conversations about the plot. It ruins how good of a character she started out as.
For a RH, this was a okay take on our guys. We don't get bombarded with ALL of them ALL at once. However, they are kinda standard stereotypes (alpha, cute/friendly, nerd, loner). Even so, I found them enjoyable. Also, M/M! Yay!
The writing style could use an editor. There are typos and such. It's also, in general, very inner-monologue heavy. Sometimes that works, and sometimes not. There's also an aspect where the character is talking to the reader sometimes, which I personally don't like. There are a decent amount of dreams/nightmares/flashbacks that can disrupt the pacing, too. Also, (this is just me being nit-picky), the author provides WAY more info sometimes than you need or want. Like, I don't need to know what they eat for EVERY meal. I don't need to know Alec is wearing dark jeans EVERY time you go out. I don't need to know how Maddox took care of Lenny EVERY time we talk about everyone's shitty childhood.
My BIGGEST hold-up on this series, as a whole so far, is the smut. It's somewhere between fine and good . It's not great. IDK, it just needs more buildup, more oomph, more tension - something is just missing for me. Friday is a little sex fiend and is always horny, always thinking about how hot the guys are, and has many orgasms... maybe too many (it gets boring in later books).
In general, I've enjoyed it and think most people would like it.
It was alright, but the cliffhanger was totally unnecessary.
It just seemed like nothing really happened in the whole book. And the cliffhanger was totally unnecessary. Like, legit nothing happened. And then that whole last chapter was just like okay it was obviously a dream every single one of them were acting weird and out of character but mostly it was the fact that the guy who never spoke and was furious angry every moment and didn't talk to anyone suddenly was talking to everyone I'm hanging out acting friendly. So it was obviously a dream, but it wasn't then she comes back and catches them doing something that they've been lying and manipulating her about this whole entire time and freaks out has a complete panic attack runs away is gone for hours freaking out panicking and right when it turns night time she's like okay I need to leave the park I need to stop I need to stop freaking out closes her eyes opens them and she's just totally fine she was just freaking out for hours and hours the whole entire day and then she just says okay stop freaking out. And stops freaking out. Like what is she a robot it was freaking weird and then what? Why does that need to be a cliffhanger? Like it wasn't like there was just so much stuff going on it obviously had to have more than one book. There was literally nothing going on except these guys are like keeping a secret from her and she has no idea that they even like want her it's just weird there's no reason for cliffhanger but like right at the end of the cliffhanger it's like, by the next book to find out like that was just such a jerk move that was obviously motivated by money it had nothing to do with the story or making the plot better or anything like it was just such an obvious money grab move. I just can't I don't want to go back to it just because of that.
ok, hear me out this is one of those books that differs depending on my mood. When I first started reading it I was thinking no, no one is walking 5 miles in high heels after a bad day like Friday has had. And all she talks about is how awful her ex is, yet she was surprised when she actually did catch him in the act. Using her body to flirt and get whatever she needs lands her in a small run-down motel where people are likely to never be seen again. Being a small-town person, I hate when small towns are portrayed as hideouts for hicks and farmers but oh well. Then meet the guys. It is a reverse harem after all, and they are vampires on top of that, all waiting for the one more that will make their circle whole. And as soon as they see Friday, they know she is the one. But I am not sure why. She has no redeeming qualities. Seems to be a flat-out ***** but maybe it is because I have been reading too many romances where the female characters are sticky-sweet. So, on one hand I am like girl, if you got the body, use it to get what you want. Men will fall for anything. But then another time I pick it up where I left off and I think Friday has a perfect opportunity to be a kinder version of herself and start over with a new life. With or without vampires in her bed.
Finding Friday was the first male only Narration I have tried that had the FMC POV most, that said he did an a wonderful job! At first It was disorienting, but I got use to it very easily because his female voice interprutation wasnt awful. I went through the reviews before giving this one a try and was on the fence about it because of the low rating reviews. While I do agree that the world building could have been better, I don't know what a circle is, how they learned about it being a normal thing, or how they learned about a prophet/oracle, when they were supposedly born from humans with no idea of who or what they were until it was happening to them. That being said, the character interactions was great. I loved how the story progressed, the chemistry was hot. Friday makes a believable human with a decent amount of confidence and as dumb as it was getting into a car with men she didn't know, she was very much from the F IT Class! I will be reading Book 2.
There's not a lot I don't love about this group of characters. I have to say that I've read the entire series already, so I'm trying really hard to be specific to just this book alone.
So, in book 1, we meet: Friday, our sassy, hilarious, (human?) fmc. Maddox, the delicious, cocky piece of work vampire, Lenny, our sweet, adorable warlock, Callan, our shy, sexy knowledge manipulator and Alec, our brooding, hot as sin air elemental. This band of boys is on their annual trip looking to find their one. The one woman to complete their circle. Could it be Friday? Of course it is. Is it that simple? Of course it isn't!
Watching this group navigate meeting Friday his hilarious and frustrating. They are all held back by own their baggage because you know,... Men. But watching Friday deal with all of her crap that leads to her meeting these guys, as well as dealing with all of their crap is such a joy. I'm so excited to be rereading this journey. On to book 2....
Meh, I read this first book in The Road to Truth series to see if I was interested in the series. (I also have the omnibus.) I'm stopping here, though. I wanted to like this, and part of me wants to continue. But I realize it's just the sunk cost fallacy rather than any actual enjoyment or connection or even curiosity about what happens.
I've finished this book and feel as if the plot has made no progress. I don't know the characters at all, though I dislike some of them intensely. I have no understanding of the world or species particulars. Plus, the whole thing is in first person present tense, which means it is almost all dialogue and internal monologues. There is simply no subtlety or nuance to the writing.
All in all, as much as I hate abandoning anything partially completed (especially ending on a cliffhanger), I can't take a further 5 books. I'm stopping here.
Wasn't overly exciting, but not necessarily boring either. It almost seemed like a contemporary RH with a hint of PRN sprinkled in. The overall plot development was good, in that it kept me interested to see how the characters relationship would build. My biggest hang up was that the FMC was almost unlikable not to mention Maddox. He seemed like a grade A a$$hat, while I know some times that woks in RH world, he seemed OTT at least in his dealing with the rest of the harem. There were also a few plot holes that I think may be cleared up in future books, but what is a circle (figure it's a pack), why the mix of various supes, what makes Alec to a 180, etc. Ended with so many questions.
This is a great book series that takes you on a journey through Friday's life. You get to know her and the guys thoroughly and it just makes you love everything more. Quell T. Fox does a great job at keeping you engaged and wanting to read more. I really couldn't put down these books.
The plot is great, the sex is awesome, the character development is exceptional, and it's easy to love all the characters and the rolls they play in learning what type of supernatural Friday is. As well as how they work towards their happy ever after with all of the baggage they each carry.
So it was a pretty good book is say between 3.5 & 4 stars. The structure of the story was well written. This first book really just opens the door for the paranormal and reverse harem elements and I'm curious to see how those develop further. And while the romance depth might just be starting, the physical parts, the sexy times were very hot but also believably paced for this group of characters. There are also a few funny parts throughout. That being said well I'm not exactly sure how i feel at the end of this story but I'll definitely read more.
What a book, what a cliffhanger. Why Quell, why a cliffhanger? Dang anticipation. I absolutely loved the first book of The Road to Truth series. Can't wait to read the next book. Friday leaves the loser she was with, and ends up with four gorgeous hunks. All a different type of paranormal flavor. After reading the Secrets series, I was wondering about Friday's life as well as her mates. So far so good, definitely enjoying the series, looking forward to the remains books in the truth series.
I’m not a big fan of paranormal....usually. The non human things bother me. BUTTTTT, this....this was a masterpiece. I read it in one sitting!!! The author seamlessly transition to multi faceted, individual POV’s as if it were their everyday occurrence. Now....that....is....talent!!! I wish I could do that. If you don’t believe me, read it for yourself and see how each different character really is. Wow.....wow.
