The end is here. Evil has arrived.
And a lone warrior is the world’s only hope for salvation.

We all prayed that history would never repeat itself.
That one Great War was enough for all eternity.
That we would never again have to face the terror that brought the human race close to extinction.

We were wrong.

History is repeating itself.
A sea of vermin awaits us on the barren plains, once more.
And a new sacrifice must be made.

But this time, it’s one that can’t be broken.
One that cannot be taken back.
One that is permanent and ever-lasting...

One of the heart.

AUTHOR’S NOTE: This is the final book in the FKC series and contains an intense, all-consuming, dark romance in a dark fantasy world with a scorching romance, forced proximity, touch her/him & die, coming into ones powers, and an obsessive and very possessive morally gray shadow wielding MMC. 18+ recommended.

Make sure to read books 1-4 (The Snows of Nissa, The Storms of Fury, The Sands of Titans, The Plains of Wrath) in the Forgotten Kingdom Chronicles before starting this book since they are all connected and CANNOT BE READ AS STANDALONES! All books are available on Amazon and KU

Amazing. This series has been such a roller coaster of emotions, and this last book was the absolute best one. I'm not putting ANY spoilers, you have to go in blind and get the full effect. 😂 TRUST ME on this. I cried multiple times, so don't forget your tissues. This one reveals so much, throws in so many twists, makes you happy, makes you cry, makes you horny, makes you swoon.... you get it. It has it all, and I loved every second of it! This is one of my FAVORITE series out there, and I'll miss every one of those characters that have grown in my heart from the beginning. If you haven't started the Forgotten Kingdom Chronicles series yet, please do yourself the favor right now! I'm so sad it's over, but the ride was an excellent one. Thanks, General. You have my heart forever, you brute. 🫡

This is the fifth and final book in the Forgotten Kingdom Chronicles, a dark romantasy series. Tropes include shadow daddy, shadow play, angst, possessive MMC, badass FMC, banter, and touch her/him and die. This is dark so please see content warnings for dark themes and explicit content.

The Lovely: I loved the main characters and their relationship. This book ups the angst and emotions compared to book four and it was a beautiful piece of their romance. I might have cried - more than once. Tender, almost sweet, Cathay was amazing but, don’t worry, he then would go back to bantering with Duna. The spice was still on point between them and is very very spicy.

Also Lovely: I also loved how all the threads were tied up in the final story - Cathal’s brother, Duna’s father, Axle and Petra and even seeing some unexpected characters. The pacing and tension was perfect - it never felt rushed or like it wrapped up too quickly.

Rating: 4.5/5 Stars 4/5 Flames

Recommendation: I received an advance review copy, and am leaving this review voluntarily. I can’t say anything about the ending without spoiling so I’ll just say I liked how it ended. And after several ends to other series this year that I found lacking, that’s a high compliment. This series as a while is in my top favorites when it cimes to dark romance layered with dark fantasy. After five books with them I’m going to miss Duna and Cathal- their angst, their banter and their romance. It’s been a wonderful journey and I look forward to reading more by this author.

Well, after reading the final book, I can now officially say: This series ruined me.
To avoid spoilers, I'll keep my review shorter. You all need to read it for yourself; Valley is something you experience, not from hearsay.
I would say I knew what I was getting into - the title points the emotional roller-coaster ride perfectly out - but I was wrong. So, so wrong. I cried and tried so hard to keep it together and when I saw "the end", the waterworks started again. And then came the acknowledgements and for no specific reason, I only cried harder. It took me days to write this review. Days!
Now to the actual review:
Valley is amazing. That's it. It's amazing. Take the plot, going from one shocking, heart-breaking, tragic and/or surprising thing after another.
I would lie when I say all characters deserved their ending because... well, some stories are tragic but I'm very happy about certain couples and their HEA. After all the hardships, the up and downs, they all really deserved it.
A special mention goes to our passionate, morally grey General Cathal. The mouth on this man... Just thinking about him, his shadows and *other* things... (spontaneous combustion)
The end is more than worthy for the series. Isabella Khalidi truly couldn't have done a better job!
Although I'm sad the series is ending, this isn't a goodbye. So, everything's alright. I will cope. (Somehow...)

5++/5 stars

The Valley of Tears is the most perfect ending I’ve ever seen in a series. The conclusion to Duna’s and Cathal’s epic love story had me laughing, anxious, scared, shocked, cheering, and sobbing.

I cried through the last 6ish chapters. Full on sobbing. The way this book has changed my brain chemistry for the rest of my life cannot be explained.

Isabella’s attention to details and ability to weave an absolutely incredible story is impeccable. Not once did I feel as if the story was slow or dragging. Seeing the character development in Cathal, Duna, Petra, Axel, and so many others was incredible. Even Cian warmed my heart a bit there.

Also, if you read To Claim a Silver Curse and love a good dragon daddy moment… well… make sure you read closely towards the end. That’s all I’m gonna say.

There are no other words I can say to describe this other than the most incredible and fitting ending to TFKC and I am so incredibly glad I have been able to be along for this ride.

Thank you, Isabella, for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased and honest thoughts as a reader. I’m so thankful to know you and be able to read your books.

What a perfect ending to Duna and Cathal’s story.

Isabella has created a wonderful world full of myths and prophecies and they all come to a head in this epic conclusion.

Amongst the angst and epic battles, there are small moments of humour and plenty of spice.

I’m sad this series has come to an end but it was a very fitting ending. And somehow I don’t think this is the last we have seen of some characters!

p.s. if you haven’t read Isabella’s novella “To Claim A Silver Curse” I highly recommend it.

BOOK V | THE VALLEY OF TEARS

After four wildly striking novels, the concluding chapter to Duna's harrowing journey has finally arrived and every bit proves to be a finale worthy of this epic story. Built upon a divine prophecy, this meticulously crafted story has pulled every personality we've met thus far into a tightly woven web of deceit where its godly commanders spin deadly new threads along the way. A tangled story that depicts the dangerous affairs amongst the most influential with our courageous heroine at the very center, The Valley of Tears carefully reveals every hidden aspect of Duna's mysterious heritage, the worth and purpose of her life and her ultimate shift from pawn to player in this treacherous game of power and honor which isn't afraid to bend its most vulnerable to their vengeful whims.

A high-octane novel that leaves no stone unturned, this series finale offers the ultimate resolution to the major mysteries ensnaring every key figure in this tale from the very beginning but not without a generous dose of heart-wrenching twists and declarations peppered in between. In true Khalidi fashion, every page of this novel is beautifully drenched in deep emotion and expertly brought every principal characters' mounting fears to the forefront. As each character confronts these very heartbreaking realizations, hidden layers to each respective personality are exposed and paints them in more meaningful hues. Along with Duna & Cathal's impassioned discourse, readers are given a more in-depth look at beloved supporting characters (Petra, Edan, Cian, The Enchanter) as well as the enigmatic divine forces who appear to be pulling the strings of this risky dance with the fates. An artfully done conclusion which cleverly threads together every significant storytelling hint strategically pointed since the first novel, this finale answers every heartbreaking query and mystery with purpose and spark. A true work of art, Khalidi not only draws an enchanting new fantasy rooted in Egyptian mythology but infuses these pages with swoon-worthy romances that burn with a degree of passion unlike any other.

Much like the impeccably sketched fantastical elements of this epic, the romance in this series is a notable factor that really places it in a category all its own. While readers have come to recognize Duna and Cathal's brand of love as wildly fierce and intensely endured, it is the beauty of this connection and their boundless well of adoration that is so remarkably emphasized in this novel. While their romantic trek makes me melt in more ways than one, Khalidi spotlights such a vast range of love across this complete cast this time around. The varying shades of these romantic bonds each feel deeply true to the characters involved while effortlessly blending such heart into those compelling interactions. Interestingly, while some characters' love story closures occur off the page, others are given well deserved attention with plenty of distressing notes on the way to happiness (oh how my heart hurt for Axel & Petra).

FINAL VERDICT // An exceptionally done series that enchants with its mesmerizing storytelling and exquisitely crafted characters, the Forgotten Kingdom Chronicles skillfully blends fascinating strokes of mythology with the striking tones of a blazing romance that calls to one's deepest emotions. This series concludes in stunning fashion, braiding together a set of alluring themes while examining the classic clash between good and evil in a refreshing yet heartachingly beautiful manner. From the brilliantly-rendered corners of this breathtaking world to the tremendous characters directing this vibrant story and every outstanding element tucked within the pages of these memorable novels, the Forgotten Kingdom Chronicles earns top marks and has easily found a lasting spot on my short list of favorites.

An incredibly done tale that imaginatively spins classic lore into an unforgettable story of discovery, courage, power and monumental love, the Forgotten Kingdom Chronicles is one story I couldn't recommend more strongly and encourage all readers of romantasy to embark on this emotional adventure immediately.

*My greatest thanks to author Isabella Khalidi for sharing an advanced copy of The Valley of Tears for review. It has been an absolute a privilege to read these incredible series novels and offer my authentic thoughts and signature Final Verdicts along the way. How I will miss these stunning characters but look forward to revisiting this world in a new light in your next project.

“Foolish girl, don’t you know that not all stories have a happy ending, and that sometimes, we can’t have it all?”

This final book was a bit better than the last two but overall...look the plot/worldbuilding is really cool and honestly the only redeeming quality of this book. The character relationships are trash and such caricatures I can't take any of them seriously. Justice for Melina and Leila who deserved redemption arcs instead of being the stereotypical boyfriend's ex and mistress causing eyerolling drama. The plot, while riveting it also suffered from trying to do too much. The entire Leila demon witch storyline could have been really interesting had it been explored. Instead it didn't contribute much of anything to the story/overall plot and wrapped up quite quickly and cleanly. Adding dragons randomly at the end...that somehow Duna has a relationship with but the reader is not aware of? No closure or further exploration into the dynamic between the brothers and why their relationship fell apart so tragically? Cathal destroying earth/the entire universe and a 7 year time jump in the last 5% of the final book? Introducing a brand new realm where Duna was hidden and he somehow forgot to look there? I feel insane from the whiplash in the final 10% in this book.

In summary,

↠ Characters need growth at the end of a 5 book dark fantasy series or else...what is the point? Also characters need depth and not to be caricatures or one dimensional.

↠ Problems need to be solved by other means than death and sex...it was out of hand.

↠ Let's not introduce brand new characters, realms, conflicts in the last 10% of a series.

↠ Dark romance is more than just toxic romances and throwing temper tantrums when you don't get your way.

“His love isn’t healthy. It isn’t good and honorable. It’s a sick love. A dangerous, volatile obsession that will infect everything if allowed to fester. He would sacrifice the whole world for you if it ever came down to a choice, and would feel no remorse for it.”

I am glad I stuck this series out. The first book was a ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 to me (rounded up to a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️), but the series definitely improved as the story progressed. Definitely the spice is still going strong 🌶🌶🌶🌶. The flirting, banter, and tension is still there, even though they are together. It never stops or slows down, specially not with the shadow daddy

This book is the end battle, and I appreciated the amount of strategy that was considered instead of just going straight into the fighting scenes. The FMC and MMC finally really come into their own with the relationship, and really solidify their claim to one another. They have stopped fighting the pull to each other, and embrace who they are individually and who they are as eternal mates.

I would recommend this series as a strong fantasy, and if you aren't totally sold by the first book, but still interested, read the second one. It is a longer series with five books, so I would say be invested after the second book because you will have three more.

I think the only frustrating thing about the writing is that there are different POV's in third person, but you aren't given who you are reading about in the chapter. Once I started reading the chapter, I had to figure out the POV, and though it got much easier in the series, I really wish the author would take the time to write the name with the chapter number.

Tropes:
☑️ Touch her and 💀
☑️ Shadow Daddy
☑️ Stabby/Badass Heroine
☑️ Fated Mates
☑️ Betrayal
☑️ Secret Identity
☑️ HEA
☑️ Multiple POV’s
☑️ FMC not Virgin
☑️ Found Family
☑️ Gods

The fifth and final book in The Forgotten Kingdom series and what a way to finish, the story really has the ending it deserves without just playing nice for everyone.

So many mixed emotions whilst reading this book, sad for the series to come to end because the journey throughout this story has been so incredible.
To follow the highs and lows of Duna and Cathal, has been tormenting and heartbreaking but what an end to an epic tragic, dark & mythical love story.

I know I continue to say this, but I wouldn’t if I didn’t mean it. Isabella just manages to always blow me away with the details in the stories, the myths woven in, the secondary characters that actually mean something to the story as a whole and makes you crave for them to have a book of their own. Not only that but my goodness she tries hard to make your heart stop, or at least skip a beat!

The rollercoaster of emotions reading this series is brilliantly captivating, I’ve been on the edge of my seat, I’ve turned pages so fast I’ve had to go back and check I’ve read something correctly, I’ve been shocked, angry, sad, happy and so excited to read this intense and raw story.

All I can say is read the blurb, if you think that it sounds cool then you’d be correct it is!
But please don’t think it’s a soft dreamy closed door romance, you would be in for the shock of your life.

This book was EVERTHING I could of asked for and so much more, it played on every single one of my emotions and pulled on all of my heart strings. This book and this series as a whole is a true testament to Isabella's phenomenal writing. I am in absolute awe of everything she has created within these pages and although I'm sad to leave this series behind we couldn't have been given a better ending.

The plot in this book was spot on, the progression from the previous book felt natural, and despite being packed full of action (and emotional trauma, and I mean that as a good thing) nothing felt rushed. Isabella has this wonderful skill of carefully building the story to place the key pieces in the right place so they are ready to fall when the time comes.

Now, let me talk to you about how this book made me feel. I went through a whole host of emotions in this book, it was a damn emotional rollercoaster but a beautiful one at that. I cried (a lot), I laughed, I was frustrated, thrilled, pleased and sad and it was all wonderful. The emotional attachments I have formed with these characters over the course of the series is immense and a beautiful part of the story.

Duna and Cathal are both phenomenal characters with a special shout out to Petra, Edan and of course Shah as well. Duna will always always have a special place in my heart, from book one I knew she was going to be one of my all time favourite FMC's and my love for her has only grown as the books have gone on. It has been an absolute pleasure to watch her grow and become the strong independent women you see in this book. Her relationship with Cathal is phenomenol and the epitome of delicious possessiveness and fit perfectly with the tone of the story.

Oh, and how could I forget the amazing world building and lore that continues within this book. This has always been a highlight of the series for me and this book was no exception.

I honestly cannot recommend this series enough, it's been such an incredible journey and I'm just so thankful to Isabella for having me along for the ride. You are a Queen!

JUST. TOTALLY. EPIC.

This review is harder to right, because the words for this book are struggling to come to me (but I will try).

This book is such a bittersweet read, knowing that it's the end of a mind-blowing series and wanting more, yet wanting the characters to finally have their HEA.

This finale truly does this series justice. You feel the weight of the journey, and all emotions from start to end. Whether it be sadness, happiness, heartache, rage, vindication or more, this story truly brings it all out.

The character development from book 1 through to this story keeps the reader totally enthralled, and this author really let not only the main characters shine, but the supporting characters that the reader just has to love.

This final installment is filled with twists and turns, action, heroism, beloved friends and characters, unexpected characters from other works (happy surprise, and I recommend you read all other works by this author) and simply all the feels.

This series easily became one my favorite fantasy reads, and the focus on Egyptian mythology instead of Roman or Greek is a breath of fresh air!

This is definitely a series I'd want to read again for the first time, however, I'll just settle with re-reading it again and again!!

An epic conclusion to an amazing story

I find myself struggling to find words worthy of this epic conclusion. I love how Isabella wove all these little nuggets throughout the books, and you don't realize how important all these details are.

The Valley Of Tears is so intricate. One moment you're crying, the next you're laughing because of the endless witty banter between your pick of characters (Cathal, Duna, Axel, Petra, they are all pretty amazing) and then the spice that deserves its own category because wow. Just when you think that Isabella has done things with that shaddow daddy of her with shaddow play that you could never imagine, she takes it up a notch and blows your mind again.

I do love how we got to see more of Petra and Axel in this book. I really loved their story. I also was really rooting for some of the other side characters to get their HEA. But I know not everyone can be sunshines and rainbows.

I'm in continual awe of her ability to make me fall in love with these characters, not just the main but the side characters as well. I'm not sure what I'm going to do now that this series is over. But I am very much looking forward to the upcoming series (no spoilers) and .maybe that will help get me what I need.

My heart….this book plays on your emotions right from the start. Since it is the last one in the series, it gives everyone an ending and also how things became what they were in the earlier books. I love the full circle of it all. And did I mention my heart? I was not ready to feel the way I did throughout the book. Isabella did so amazing with her story. The spicy scenes did have some new things in them, and nothing was held back. It was such a wonderful send off to the characters. I know I will miss Cathal and Duna, but seeing some of the other characters from her novella and the hints of what is to come. I am super excited. This series is forever going to be a guilty pleasure of mine. There is so much I want to talk about, but I cannot since this book is nearly all spoilers especially if you have not had the chance to read the others yet! Thank you so much Isabella for allowing me to be apart of this journey! I am not going anywhere at all.

The epic finale to this wonderful world of kingdoms and interesting characters. This book had expanded POVs as compared to the others which helped it feel like the characters we had met throughout the series also got a chance to develop.

The build up to the ending we all know is coming was grand. Watching Duna come to terms with the prophecy and the lengths we'd all know Cathal would go to for her was wonderful. Although the ending was expected, the details in how it finished were a wonderful touch - especially that it wasn't Apophis but Nkosi who had inhabited Madir to try to end Duna's life. The Sky King was ruthless and remorseless as an uncaring being would be, and I have never wanted a god to be brought to his knees so bad.

The universe shattering love between Duna and Cathal, mixed with the deftly woven plot of the 5 books of this series had me hooked. I think this is the fastest I've ever read an entire series since I was in high school!

I was excited and worried to read the last book in this series. I wanted to know what would happen to these characters but at the same time I didn’t want to say goodbye.

The Valley of Tears did in fact make me cry. I’m not talking just a few tears, there were times I had to put the book down because I couldn’t see. But I would highly recommend this series to anyone.

The conclusion to Duna and Cathal’s story is amazing. We have seen this couple go through many things in this series and this book is no different. The journey has love, heartbreak, sadness, laughter, anxiety (that may have just been me 🤓), fight scenes, sexy shadow daddy doing his thing, and Duna being a bad ass with the sass. The conclusion to the story and all the characters we have fallen in love was fantastic. I wish I could read this book again for the first time

Just when you think Isabella couldn’t surpass the epicness of the previous 4 books in the series, this final knocks it clean out of the park.

I literally could not put this book down. Even with the threat of anguish and heartache that may or may not appear on the next page, I had to turn the page, and the anguish didn’t just lie with Duna and Cathal - oh no this series affects all manner of kingdoms and peoples. So many things came to light so I had to turn the page, with hope that maybe the prophecy was was wrong, maybe fate could be defeated. You’ll only know if you read it.

I find myself grieving that Duna and Cathals story has been concluded but so humbled and grateful that I got to go on this unbelievably amazing journey. One that I got so sucked into their world and characters.

I look forward to your next adventure Isabella

Great buildup to the final battle, but an unsatisfying ending

Just as the story was finally getting good with the buildup to the final battle, and answers were finally being revealed, the ending of this book, and the series as a whole, fell flat. I know some people would be fine with the ending, but I needed more. After reading this story that dragged on through five poorly edited books, I wanted something more substantial than: everything is hunky-dory, and everyone is friends now, and they lived happily ever after. I am disappointed.

The usual grammar and editing issues that have plagued this whole series were present, again. I really do like this author as a person, but she needs another person or two to give her honest editing feedback.

This was a perfect ending to the series. We get to have multiple POVs in this one from some of my favorite side characters *cough* Petra *cough* as well as both main characters. This book had me feeling all the things, and the reveals? I was screaming and gasping for a good chunk of the book over them. I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is absolutely one of my favorite series of all time. If you want a dark romantasy with rich storytelling, world building, and a badass FMC this is a must read.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED this entire series. Duna and Cathal are everything you want in a passionate relationship with your eternal mate 😍 I would have liked a few more things tied up, like where the heck did the Enchanter go? Or the ends and out of Queen Roseia’s coup. I also would have liked more detail into Cathal’s vengeful quest for Duna during the SEVEN freaking years he looks for her 😫 and maybe just more epilogue on the different storylines.

But all in all- so good. One of the best series this year.

Fantastic ending to such a good series. I loved this series every step of the way. There was tension, mystery, seduction, heartbreak, romance, and 5-🌶 spice! Fell in love with the characters along the way and really routing for them.

The only thing I'd change is more closure about Petra and Axel ♡♡♡

Finally finished this series. The sex every 5 pages just got too much and was becoming repetitive and I just skipped the pages. Lead characters were mildly annoying at times with their martyr tendencies and assumptions.

The series would have been better if they concentrated more on the plot but otherwise, it’s a good book.

Every so often, a series comes along that you just know is going to stick with you. One where you truly care about the characters. One that makes you experience all the emotions. The Forgotten Kingdom Chronicles is that series.

The fifth and final book, The Valley of Tears, was the perfect ending to an already amazing series. Reading what Duna and Cathal are going through is like trying to stop a freight train because your heart is breaking right along with Duna.

The spice in this book is hot hot hot and very evenly distributed throughout the book.

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
