I tried... ; (◞‸◟)
I'll start with the pros:
The art in this is just gorgeous. It has a really polished style that I find very appealing!
And in terms of the plot, I really, really love the trope of "sudden cohabitation"-- where two virtual strangers are forced into an intimate living situation. It's just such a fun, unlikely thing to happen, and always breeds silly hijinks. I love it.
I also really enjoyed the boss character in this, who reminds me of Redd from Animal Crossing. He has a great design and a cute piercing. And also, the yokai were of big interest to me, and I thought their portrayal here was good fun. Hanako looked adorable and the yuki-onna was so beautiful! The Red Room scene was also scary, exciting, and cool; I enjoyed it quite a bit. I thought the supernatural element was done very well, balancing spooky and silly in a really fun way.
Now... on to the cons...!
I really don't like either of the main characters, and that ultimately was this book's downfall for me...
Yuki is painted as this horrible roommate for Osuke when he moves in, but honestly, he's just quiet, blunt, and has RBF. To me, it doesn't seem like he ever did anything horrible to Osuke, so I'm not sure why Osuke has these thoughts like "I can't take this anymore, I gotta move out!"... one of the notes I made in my notebook while reading was "Your rent is 300$ a month, can you really complain!?" and I really felt that way for the first half!
I found Osuke, the main character, to be utterly insufferable. You can tell he's the youngest sibling living on this own for the first time, because he kind of acts like a spoiled brat. He made me cringe several times with his behavior, constantly complaining, running away, and bemoaning his circumstances.
I know that he's supposed to be a "fish out of water" type of character, tossed into a strange environment as an audience stand-in, but sometimes a protagonist like this can actually be a hindrance and mess up the cool worldbuilding. All throughout I sort of wished Osuke would be quiet and go away, because he was distracting me during actually interesting scenes. I found it very lamentable, and I never saw Osuke's charm once from start to finish -- he kind of started and ended an annoying hanger-on for me.
On that note: this couple. I don't ship them. At all. I don't think they have even an ounce of chemistry, even as the mangaka forces them into all the usual BL-y positions (yukadon, sharing a bed together, kiss under duress, holding hands against their will, etc). Osuke is annoying and Yuki pretty much has the same amount of personality as a piece of cardboard, so there's really not much to say about him. Because of this, I found the BL component of this to be the least compelling part of it. The MCs are both dull, and even the comedy element is practically non-existent.
These two are just not my ideal couple, and Osuke is definitely not my ideal protagonist, so this one simply wasn't to my taste. A shame, because I thought the supernatural and yokai elements were pretty exciting.
