The concept of this won me over instantly with its creativity. After finding himself unexpectedly and suddenly homeless, Osuke becomes entangled with an agency whose primary function is assisting unwanted supernatural beings with finding new homes when they start to inconvenience their human tenants. He's paired with grumpy Nijio, his potential love interest, and they have great chemistry together. There's a good mix of urban legends, comedy, and heart here, and I'm looking forward to more.

A cute BL manga with japanese ghostbusters, sort of. October is upon us, so it fits with the season.

This was a fun quick read, with great art! First time I’ve seen two mediums negotiate with a spirit haunting a school toilet to haunt somewhere else, and discuss the perks of fancy toilet technology for her new home 😂

A high school grad ends up in an odd situation living and working with a professional ghost/yokai/supernatural being evictor. Our MC is spiritually inclined to attract beings, and in some cases let them possess him. His partner is skilled in communicating with them, and either convincing them to move, or to evict them by force if they are dangerous.

It teases a future BL relationship, with a couple plot-induced moments of mouth-to-mouth and handholding, and of course the forced proximity of living together, but nothing solid so far.
I wish we got some more character depth, as we don’t know either of them that well, but I had a lot of fun and enjoyed the various yokai haunting and solutions.

I’ve put the second volume on my list to read already, looks like it’ll be out in February 2025.
I received an ARC through NetGalley. This review is my honest opinion.

A cute and fun supernatural manga with hints of potential romance between main characters. A real estate agency offers ghost removal services for clients whose properties are haunted by ghosts. Our main characters work together to drive out the ghosts. They move into a place, drive out the ghost or spirit, then move into another haunted place, and so on. Along the way we learn a little bit about each character, but not a lot. Hopefully further volumes will give us more backstory.

This was silly and fun and made me laugh out loud a few times. I appreciated that there were all different kinds of ghosts/spirits from Japanese mythology and urban legends in this first volume. This was not scary. There wasn’t any kissing or spice, but there seems to be a possibility of romance.

Overall, I enjoyed this and look forward to following these characters and their shenanigans in future volumes.

Thank you to NetGalley for provided a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

Oh my gawd I could not have loved this book more. I devoured it! The art is amazing! The plot is fascinating! I was just so in love with every part of this book. The romance itself is quite light so far, but the set up is there. There is hand holding (with a work twist - you'll get it once you read it of course!) and protective vibes. I am sooooo in love. So so in love. I need more!

This book features
- M/M possibilities
- work place romance-ish
- opposites attract
- ghost banishers - they work out ghost evictions - I adored this plot so much!

"My noisy roommate" is a quick, fun read with a lovable main character. The story has such a unique concept: instead of hunting ghosts, the characters try to relocate them, which comes with its own challenges. Some of the ghosts really don’t want to leave. I did think the start was a bit slow, but the plot quickly picks up and introduces a lot of Japanese folklore. I’ll definitely keep an eye on this series!

The art is pretty but this is more goofy slice-of-life than spooky, and it's not really BL. Feels more like queer-bait. The only reason I would want to continue is that it ends on a cliffhanger introducing two more pretty-boy characters, and I am curious about them. But on the whole I just didn't like the tone.

2nd read: still as good as I remember it. Lots of fluffy hints. Can't wait to see how their relationship develops!

--

An unforeseen event left Osuke homeless, then he was suddenly offered a cheap room with a handsome stranger as a roommate. That sealed his fate to be pulled into a supernatural world, and the adventure began!

Japanese lores are always fascinating, and this book blends different yokais into the story—from the scary one to the cute one. Osuke and Nijio—the hot rommate—had an interesting dynamic right from the beginning, although quite typical of Japanese manga characters. Also, they're both so beautifully drawn, I really like the art. I can't wait to read what happens next, especially with the coming of 2 new characters!

Thank you Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

Sweet, silly, and a little spooky. Yokai + gay romance? Sold. Osuke is a sympathetic and often clueless lead, Nijio is mysterious, hot, and possibly narcoleptic??? And the way video games were used in this volume to serve the story? I’m very here for this and can’t wait to continue the series.

I received this one from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.

This manga turned out to be even more fun than I had expected! More spooky/scary even!

Meet Osuke, a guy who just lost his home (his new home at that) and is looking for a new one. If only he knew what he signed up for, haha, when he gets an offer from a strange guy for a cheap living space that looks extra-ordinary beautiful. I am not sure if he knew what was going to come for him he would have signed up! Yes, you all see that cover, it looks like two guys are just having a great time and maybe a dash of ghosts. Well, I would prepare yourself, just like how Osuke would have liked to prepare himself for what is about to come. Because this one gets really scary at times! We don’t just meet small fry ghosts, but also various youkai (like a zashiki-warashi, which was a wonderful chapter)! I loved every bit of it! I think the one that terrified me the most was the house with the red stuff and creepy things happening on the phone which escalated to a big nope.

Plus, I loved finding out what Nijio (and the strange real estate dude who is the boss of the operations) is doing and how Osuke is a perfect person for the team. Apparently Nijio (and his boss) clear out buildings of ghosts/youkai and either make them go to heaven/hell (forcibly because they are often ghosts that say no) or offer them new places to stay. And Osuke? Well, he is a magnet for ghosts, his body easily allows them to take him over. And that is perfect if you want to help (or not help if the ghost is really bad) out ghosts. Maybe not entirely perfect for Osuke, but I loved that he got more and more courage as the story continued. I guess it helps that he is slowly falling in love with Nijio + the prospect of a home + money (he does get paid for this).

The romance is not really on the surface yet, there are some small hints, and I do hope that in the next volume(s) there is more of it. I would love to see these two start to date and really work together as a team.

Oh, oh, and I need to know who those two guys were at the end! OMG!

The art was really great! I enjoyed it a lot!

Oh, if there is one thing that didn’t entirely click for me, that would be that the story at times felt a bit disconnected. As if I missed panels or bits of the story.

All in all, this is one manga I need more of! Ghost Busters but now with some BL hints + real estate. I would recommend it if you are looking for a fun spooky (at times scary) manga.

Thank you NetGalley for the digital ARC of this volume.

Osuke is having no luck navigating the trials of adulthood. He has just recently moved out on his own and the day he moves into his first apartment is the day he has to move out. Bad pipes and all. Now homeless, he meets a real estate agent that offers him a place to live for a low price. The digs are super nice but there's a catch. He has a roommate. And.....there's a catch to the catch. The place is haunted. His new roommate, Nijio, is a spirit negotiator/eviction specialist and needs Osuke's help to perform his tasks. A new friendship or scary beyond all imagination?

This is so much fun! I enjoyed this first volume. The characters are fun and interesting. The art is great. There is humor. It just doesn't take itself too seriously and I love it.

I wanted to like this so bad. The concept is cool and the drawings are beautiful, but the writing leaves much to be desired. The cases are simple, the leads are boring, and there's nothing compelling about their dynamic. There might be romance later on, but they're just reluctant coworkers right now. The occasional funny moments are not enough to keep me reading.

I'm baffled as to why the editor decides to compare this to FANGS and The Dragon's Betrothed. I've read both and they have drastically different vibes. If anything, this series is more of a spiritual successor to The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window.

Do y'all ever look at a title and wonder - why? What was the need for that many words? Because I do. One of mine and my friend's favourite hobbies is actually going to the bookshop and laughing at the translated titles of mangas. (Though I can't find this book's original title anywhere for some reason??? Is it as insane originally?? I doubt that)

Okay, moving on from the title; this was amazing! When Osuke loses his home, a real estate agent appears out of nowhere, offering him a place to live. Convenient - a bit too convenient. Nevertheless, he takes the offer and finds himself with a new hot blonde roommate and turns out that ghosts are real!

(I do have to note the same thing that is mentioned at the end of a book; ghost isn't exactly the right term but there isn't really a better one to translate yokai which refers more to all kind of supernatural creatures.)

So. Real estate agency for ghosts? Love that. My mom and I actually thought about getting into the industry a few years ago when we were both unemployed. We even had fun slogan and everything. I adored seeing our dream become reality in this story.

I feel like we didn't really learn much about the characters in this one, which I am a bit disappointed about. Though, it just means I am even more excited about the next volume. Overall fun and exciting supernatural story with amazing art!

Thank you NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the ARC!

This was so cute and I want more, like now! Osuke is unexpectedly homeless and is just trying to prove that he can live on his own, when he's approached by a strange man that gives him a place to stay. The one stipulation is that he will have a roommate, Nijio. Now, these two left out a tiny detail about the ghost real estate business and that they were basically testing him out to see if he would be a good fit to work with Nijio. I liked that there isn't an insta-love or insta-friendship. These two are tentatively getting to know each other and working towards being friends. Hopefully a relationship blossoms in the future from their time together.

Arc via netgalley. Starving xxxholic fans, arise! This is just the opening volume so who knows how it’ll go from here, but so far I thought this was a really charming fish-out-of-water story about being flung into the world of the supernatural. Only a hint of romance in the first volume, but definitely has that sweetheart/tsundere vibe, too. BEAUTIFUL art, I enjoyed it very much. I will certainly keep an eye out for the next book!

Honestly one of the best impulse purchases I have ever made. Such a fun read. ❤️ It kind of scratched the same sort of itch that Legal Drug did but in an even better way, and the slow burn is just so damn delicious.

Special thanks to the author(s), publisher, Goodreads and/or NetGalley for the review copy. All views and opinions expressed are honest and my own.

There are some books that you fall in love with immediately and this was the one for me. Once I finished it, I immediately pre-ordered it and have read it more than ten times. I’m not sure I can put into words what exactly has made me love this manga so much.

This is a BL (boy’s love) story where the romance is a slow burn and currently not the main focus. Our main character, Osuke, has freshly graduated from high school but finds himself kicked out from his newly rented living quarters. He chanced upon a real estate agent who tricks him into working alongside Nijio to help relocate ghosts and other supernatural beings.

Each chapter has a sort of preface before dialing it back and telling the story. It’s not always focused on relocating the supernatural, and although they are all individual stories they are better read in sequence. Except for the first and bonus chapter, dealing with the supernatural is told mainly from Nijio’s perspective. It’s not unpleasant but Osuke, once possessed, seems to feel their emotions and it would have been nice if it was somehow incorporated into the story. There are a lot of unexplained questions within the first volume itself, but I’m guessing those will be answered later on in the series.

The romance isn’t explicitly shown. Honestly, one could argue it’s not even there right now. But this is a real slow burn and you can see the feelings growing over time. This story shows our characters getting closer naturally while performing their job and doing the little things. Both characters are two halves of a whole; the supernatural avoid Nijio but love Osuke and together they balance out when holding hands. I feel like this will be a “he fell first, but he fell harder” type story given both our characters personalities. The manga gives us a lot of unintentional moments between the two main characters, which I enjoyed.

With manga I find it’s hard to understand characters in the first volume itself and this applies to this series as well. Currently the story seems to be keeping it light hearted by showcasing the line of work and potential dangers, while creating an understanding or bond between Osuke and Nijio. There are hints to their pasts, with Nijio having somewhat of a tough and abusive upbringing, and Osuke having a very protective upbringing. I’m guessing in the future volumes their pasts will collide with their current work and we’ll get to learn more about them.

I find the artwork pretty and the character designs embody their personalities. The chibis, especially Osuke’s, are really adorable. Sometimes the artwork feels inconsistent such as Nijio’s earrings, but I have read this manga multiple times so I’m not sure if anyone will notice it in the first or second read. The panels are balanced between descriptive backgrounds and plain or iconographic ones to express different emotions throughout. Also, this manga focuses mainly on facial expressions so there aren’t many full body panels although I enjoyed the characters’ unique fashion.

Overall, I enjoyed this manga enough to wish I could read the second volume immediately and have an anime adaptation to watch. It’s my guilty pleasure or comfort read, if you will. I kept returning to read it over and over again. I loved it and I hope you’ll give it a chance too.

I couldn't put this manga down. I originally picked it up because of its quirky title and the art work on the cover being the style I normally gravitate towards. After reading the description and finding out it had horror themes in it, the story only interested me even more.

The story revolves around Osuke who ends up rooming with Nijio when he ends up homeless. Together they end up fighting and negotiating with the unwanted spirits in different homes. The story itself with the paranormal elements helps give the story some spooky elements. But for anybody who doesn't like scary, fear not, the art style and comedic elements help balance out the scary elements and stop it from getting anywhere close to actually scaring me.

The pacing of the story was great. Each chapter had it own contained story revolving around the supernatural elements and how the duo resolve those encounters. But the story of the comic does a great job of connecting all these chapters together through the growth of characters personalities and their relationships with one another. That being said, the characters themselves are pretty stereotypical for this type of story. It makes it so everything in the story comes off like something I've read before. It's kind of overplayed. I still enjoyed the story a lot, and the comedy and horror elements carried me through the story, but it would have been better if the characters were more original.

On an editorial note, I really enjoyed the definitions at the end and how they each came with a picture. Great small addition.

So overall, loved the genre and how it was used, loved the artwork, but the characters, especially for the main duo could be improved.

**Thank you, NetGalley, for sending an ARC of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Another ARC review of a BL manga! I'm so happy for the amazing opportunities that keep coming my way recently 🥹.

This time we have a very interesting story where MC gets paid for sharing a room with a hot guy... to do nothing 😂, he’s just bait for ghosts 👻 and other Japanese folklore creatures. And, here comes the best part: the hot guy is actually a real state agent for the supernatural 😭. He’s super powerful and scares them away so he needs MC (apparently his constitution attracts ghosts) to get them to talk to him and do his work. The plot is unique, that’s for sure. The art is also incredible, I especially like the little details with the clothes and facial expressions. It was fun to read with some bittersweet moments while trying to make the spirits move houses.

This is only the first volume and nothing happened with the future main couple. There was a small cliffhanger at the end where two unknown individuals appeared and I only got to see their backs 🙂. I'm anxiously waiting for the next one...

PS: It was a great idea to include a glossary with all the folklore and references to Japanese culture!!

My Noisy Roommate: The Roof Over My Head Comes With Monsters and a Hottie is about Osuke and Nijio becoming roommates and colleagues after Osuke is hired by their eccentric boss.
The story revolves around a ghost real estate agency and I was immediately drawn in by the beautiful artwork and the supernatural element.
Although this volume doesn't focus on romance, I have a feeling it might pop up in the next volume, which I can't wait to get my hands on!

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an arc of this manga.

This was so much fun to read! Definitely going to be on the lookout for the next volumes in this series!
I just hope it's actually lgbt+ like the tags imply because otherwise I'll be quite disappointed not gonna lie... The main characters have so much chemistry already!!
Not gonna give it a rating higher than 4 stars for now because I have only read one volume... Might come back to change the rating once I have read more of this series!

I know that tittle is a LOT, but this is shaping up to be a cute and promising series!

The mangaka's art style gripped me immediately -- not only is it beautiful to behold, Ozaki's characters come alive in every frame, either it's their sulky personality or cheerful demeanour, or the angst hidden underneath a curated exterior. I could simply stare at their art all day.

I loved that this is labelled as BL right off the bat because I did not want to walk into another they-are-just-very-good-friends! dynamic. At first impression, Osuke and Nijio are your typical fated partnership (the one where they are shoved together and just so happened to balance each other out REALLY well). Instead of crime, we have urban ghost evictions (heh!) and instead of constant bickering, we have reluctant attempts at cohabitation and growing protectiveness. There is not much to say about the ghost busting part -- the cases are all very simple and quickly resolved -- except that they merely serve to enhance our couple's relationship, although this can very well change in future volumes. This manga is the utter embodiment of the close proximity trope because, well, you'll have to read and see for yourself. I loved that hand holding is an actual requirement of their job, and I LOVED that we got the what if you put your bed next to mine😳 minecraft moment. Even though it is still too early to tell, I am low-key obsessed with these two already and I cannot wait to see how they're going to get together. (There's nothing romantic in this volume, HOWEVER what we do have is 😏).

That ending definitely promises so much more to this series and I'm very excited to see where it goes!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the E-ARC!

This title is kinda ridiculous, but the manga itself is so good.
I had a lot of fun reading this, it's probably my favourite of the ones I read recently.
The premise of My Noisy Roommate reminded me of one of my favourite anime - xxxHolic (yes, I had a long break from anime and manga, so my references are from 2010s).
We have Osuke who's always drawing the attention of various yokai and Nijio who's good at repelling them, and together they work on evicting the spirits from various places.
I really liked how they tried to be empathetic and understanding towards yokai and treating violence as the last option. That created some very cute moments.
As for the characters, we don't know much about them, but since it's the first volume I don't mind it. We have enough hints to make us interested and wanting to come back for more.
The same goes for Osuke and Nijio's relationship, we can clearly see their chemistry and I cannot wait to see how their relationship progresses.
I have to admit that I read a lot of comics books (and I'm getting used to read manga again) but I don't really focus much on the art style. I can appreciate it, but I for me the plot is always more important. (that's marvel and dcs fault, their art can be so bad sometimes that you have to focus on the plot to get through) Anyway, I think the art is wonderful and pretty.

Overall, I loved this manga and will be coming back for more.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book.

Osuke’s rental room floods the day he moves in and he’s forced to find a new place. An opportunity too good to be true turns out to be just that. It comes with a hot roommate, Nijio, and a ghost.

Nijio’s job is to relocate ghosts, but they’re frightened of him. He needs someone to lure them in, and Osuke is perfect for that. The two team up for rather hair-raising jobs. And while they’re at it, they need to share the bed…

This was a good start to a series, with great art, but a bit spookier than I expected. Osuke is a fish out of water in the supernatural world and Nijio is cool and aloof. Something is building between them though. I’ll need to read more to see where this leads.

I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
