This one-night stand is going into overtime.

The Stingrays call goalie Coulton Moore their gentle giant. The tall, imposing man is the team’s rock, their steadying influence on and off the ice. However, that mild disposition disappears completely when the beautiful bartender he’s been lusting after from across a crowded bar is attacked. Then, it’s all bets off as he steps in to defend her, protect her, and claim her as his.

Ainsley doesn’t have time for any more men in her life. Between serving a rowdy bunch of guys in her family’s dive bar, caring for her ailing father, and dealing with her brother and his ever-growing pile of gambling debt, her cup overfloweth when it comes to the male population.

When her brother’s enemies track her down, looking for retribution, a sexy, dominant stranger steps forward to save her. At first, it’s simple enough to accept his help and his kisses and his tantalizing touches because, after a lifetime of crap, she figures she’s due a night of mind-blowing passion with Coulton, the hottest man she’s ever met.

The problem begins when morning comes and he informs her what they shared was never going to be just a one-night stand. Nope. Coulton, the stubborn, determined, possessive man is settling for nothing less than her.

And forever.

Trapped working long hours at her father’s dead end seedy bar, Ainsley has written off dating after her last disastrous relationship ended badly. When a gorgeous, clearly out of place hulking Adonis walks through the doors and makes a beeline for her, she throws up every roadblock she can come up with to try to discourage his interest. The big man, however, won’t give up so easily.

At 32, professional hockey goalie Coulton is gearing up for his exit from the game in a few years’ time. When he encounters the feisty, striking young woman behind the worst bar he’s ever visited, he knew meeting her was no coincidence, even though she shut him down repeatedly.

When Coulton walks in on a pair of thugs trying to extract payment for her brother’s debt in the most egregious manner possible, he loses it on them and whisks her off to his place to patch her up. After a magical night together, a skittish Ainsley chalks it up to a one-off but Coulton is in for the long haul.

After being raised with her criminal brother by an abu$iv€ father after her mother abandoned the family, Ainsley is sure she’s not at all what beloved only child Coulton needs. Will she sacrifice her happiness and his by denying their connection? Or will his love for her lend her the strength to seize a happy future with him?

Ainsley is a sympathetic but independent FMC, strong and self-sufficient, and Coulton is a giant golden retriever with the heart of a mastiff. It’s a beautiful, steamy, and satisfying read.

I was fortunate to have been furnished an advance reader copy from Mari Carr and The Author Agency, and I’m pleased to share my honest thoughts.

Resist is book 2 in the Stingrays Hockey Series by Mari Carr and can be read as a standalone but it is suggested to read book 1 to get a feel of all characters mentioned.
Resist brings us goalie Coulton (who doesn't love goalies, they are adorable broody men) and ainsley who thinks her night with Coulton is just that, a one night stand. Coulton says otherwise and it's overtime.
Will the golden Retriever goalie tame the prickly tattooed bar girl
I absolutely love reading Mari's book and resist is as usual out of the rink!!
If you love hockey, workplace romance, then this book is for you
Thankyou Mari and TheAuthorAgency for the opportunity to read and review this amazing book, I leave this review at my discretion

RESIST is the second in Mari Carr’s Stingrays Hockey series. Goalie Coulton Moore happens across a little dive bar down the street from his Little Brother’s place and decides to stay because of the intriguing woman tending bar. Ainsley Hall is surprised by the newest patron at her dad’s namesake establishment. He’s a far cry from the usual clientele, and pretty much the opposite of her tough, tattooed, brash self. She figures he’s just playing tourist, but something keeps him coming back…

Mari Carr excels at writing scorching hot chemistry, sizzling passion, meaningful connections between friends and family members, and lots of humor. Resist is no exception, and Ainsley and Coulton's story is full of the feels. Loved seeing Ainsley begin to trust Coulton to care for her bruised heart, and realize he's someone who keeps their word. Also enjoyed the interactions with Coulton's teammates and look forward to more in this series!

Stingrays Hockey #2

Ainsley Hall is 24 and has lived a rough life. She's dated three guys and none has ended well so dating is off the books for her. She's working in her dad's dive bar just trying to survive when one night a giant of a man walks in and she knows he's not from the hood.

At 32 Coulton Moore is the goalie for the Stingrays hockey team. He belongs to the Big Brother Big Sister organization and his little brother lives in this area so he decides to go into Mick's Tavern where he meets Ainsley. She's snarky, beautiful and he's intrigued but she's not interested or even knows who he is.

One night he goes into the bar only to find two guys there attacking Ainsley and he jumps in. These are her brother's enemies and they want their money and will take whatever they can but Coulton won't allow that to happen. He takes her back to his place and she thinks it's just a one night stand. However Coulton tells her it's more than that. Can she learn to trust him?

This is a new author for me. I liked the story and the characters. My only thought was I wish there was a bonus or epilogue to tie it all up and see where they go.

What could be better than a prickly one and a golden retriever one? Especially when she is prickly, but with good reason, and he is so loveable, with good reason. Absolute opposites in almost every way, these two have mad chemistry that cannot be ignored. My heart broke for Ainsley at every turn, every new thing we learned about her. Coulton had the same reaction, but he was a wonderfully supportive partner for her. While she was a flight risk for most of the book, he never gave up. These two finally found all that had been missing in their lives, and we left them starting off on their HEA journey <#

Another wonderful and well written story by Mari Carr that I thoroughly enjoyed and gave me all the feels. Resist is the next book in her hockey series and I couldn’t resist falling in love with Coulton and Ainsley together. Ainsley has endured horrible things in her life thanks to her dad and brother but she has shown how resilient she is. Coulton was the perfect guy to love and support her through everything and my heart melted with his every action. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

“Coulton was determined to be the one man who never caused her a second of pain, the one to introduce her to new experiences.
But even more than that, he wanted to be the man who brought her joy, happiness…
And maybe even true love.’

I have read a handful of books by Mari. I have fallen into a habit of reading the same authors despite the books on my kindle vying for my time. So, I have spent time this year clearing out the kindle and branching out with my reading. When the opportunity presented itself to read Mari’s newest book I jumped in. For me this was a quick read, with low angst, a solid storyline that although tragic at times was well written and engaged my attention, with the right amount of spice, and a HEA. This was the perfect palate cleanse I needed before I dove into my next dark romance.

Ainsley grew up in her father’s tavern in Cherry Hill. Her mother left when her brother and her were young, leaving them to be raised by Mick. For the last year because of Mick’s declining health and her brother’s extracurricular activities she has been running the tavern on her own.

Coulton Moore, goalie for the Stingrays, wanders into Mick’s Tavern because it reminds him of home. The feisty dark haired bartender with tattoos he wants to know more about catches his attention. She was not his “usual” type, but, man, her self-confidence turns him on.

So, he keeps showing up.

And one night coming to her rescue.

One night where he alone made her feel safer and taken care of than she has ever felt.

He is playing the long game. Ainsley just needs to get on board.

This is the second book in this incredible series and this is Coulter and Ainsley’s story.
Coulton is a gentle giant hockey goalie, while Ainsley runs her dad’s bar. Ainsley has had a tough life with her abusive family, and understandably she does not trust easily, and she has a non-existent love life. When her brother’s enemies track Aisley down and attack her in the crowded bar, Coulton steps up to the plate to take care of her.
This is a well written story which has family, dynamics, friendships, emotions, opposites attract, retribution, humor, witty banter, challenges, and love, which leads to an entertaining, spicy, and tragic, addictive page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Mari Carr always writes steamy outstanding stories. Colton is the gentle giant of the hockey team. He meets Ainsley at a neighborhood dive Daniel is blown away by her spunky charm. This is her Cinderella story. She comes from a hard life, but she finds her happily ever after with the sweet hockey player with a very dirty side. She learns to trust and love and finds herself in the process. I couldn’t put the book down. I can’t wait for the next book!

Mari knew what she was doing when she named this one, because I was truly unable to Resist reading Coulton and Ainsley’s story beginning to end without stopping. If you love a story of two people with an inexplicable connection, working through baggage, with spice, danger, and laughter thrown in for fun than this story is for you. Coulton is a beautiful example of the type of sexy protector so many women as looking for in life, one that stands beside us, fighting with us instead of for us, but knowing that sometimes we need him to step in and carry us away from the real world and treat us like a princess. His love of his work, teammates, family, and friends rounds him out into a perfect gentleman while his spicy side leaves us more than satisfied as Ainsley drags him repeatedly into the bedroom for antics. Ainsley has lived the kind of life most of us only understand through stories (either books, TV, or news reports) filled with constant vigilance against dangers, heartbreak, and abuse, and it has certainly left her with piles of relationship baggage. I was right there with Coulton hoping that everything in her life could be improved and she could finally get a moment to just breathe in a safe and loving setting, not having to be constantly vigilant and worried about the next drama coming at her. Once she was able to take that breath, she did find a way to move forward, opening her heart and allowing Coulton to prove how perfect they were together, even though she continued to have fears. The connection and chemistry between these two are undeniable, even if she tried through most of the book, and the passion is definitely off the charts. I loved every moment of this read, even if I had a few moments of confusion until I realized the timeline overlaps book one (Restraint) a LOT, so be prepared there. I am dying to read Preston’s story (Rematch) soon and I know that one will be a doozy as he falls in love and has to find a way to convince his woman to accept him as more than a booty call. Mari has outdone herself with this series for sure and I am becoming more invested with each impressive Hockey Romance.

You can read all of my reviews at Nerd Girl Loves Books.

I'm in my hockey romance era right now and was very happy to receive an advance reader's digital copy of this book. Coulton and Ainsley's story is the epitome of opposites attract. He's an NHL goalie with a huge heart, a loving supportive middle-class family, and is ready for commitment. Ainsley comes from an abusive family, has had horrible boyfriends, is barely supporting herself, and lives in a run down, poor neighborhood. They meet by chance and Ainsley's life will never be the same.

Coulton saw what he wanted and didn't stop until he got it. This sounds creepy and stalkerish, but it really wasn't. He just kept showing up for Ainsley, which she is not used to. She's never been able to depend on anyone for anything. She constantly questions Coulton's motives and actions, and he takes her suspicions and distrust all in stride, proving that he's not going anywhere. Almost immediately upon meeting Ainsley his protective instincts kick in anytime she is disrespected or in danger.

It was sweet to see Ainsley begin to slowly trust Coulton and let herself enjoy being with him and hope - hope he's not playing her, hope she can trust him, hope she might have a future with him. When Coulton's friends and family welcomed her with open arms and she seamlessly fit in and started enjoying herself was such a huge moment for her. After living such a crap life, she finally let herself be happy.

There is almost no hockey talk in this book. Just a few passing comments about Coulton working out after a game or having a good or bad game. As a huge hockey fan, I would have enjoyed having more actual hockey stuff in the book. The couple definitely had chemistry and there are a few spicy scenes in the book. Overall this is a sweet, spicy, easy read that will give you all the feels.

I received a complimentary e-copy from The Author Agency. All opinions are my own.

This is book 2 in Carr's Stingrays Hockey series, a sports themed romance read that is so much more. Well written and balanced with both sweet romance and steamy chemistry, Resist is the journey of our main characters Stingrays hottie goalie Coulton and bartender/co-owner Ainsley. Let's first start off by saying that Ainsley has not had a great go of life and her hard knocks just seem to keep coming. She has walls - towering high walls due to a lifetime of hurt and abuse. Coulton is the polar opposite but when these two meet both are smitten, I struggled a bit with how much Ainsley takes on and while I know her character must be so strong to have endured what she has I wanted her to fight back more, especially when it came to her family. I adored how Coulton was upfront and honest but at times still held back due to fear of perceptions. I totally relate to that. Overall, I loved the sweet and steam element and how Ainsley was welcomed into Coulton's friends and family (life). The dual narration was wonderfully done and brought our characters and story to life. A wonderful listen and I'm excited for more from Carr and this series!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review.

This book had me hooked from the start. Coulton and Ainsley’s story is the kind of romance that sneaks up on you and refuses to let go.

Ainsley has been let down by everyone in her life—her father, her brother, her exes—each one proving to her that love only ever brings pain. She’s convinced nothing good is meant for her, so when Thor himself aka Coulton walks into the tavern she owns, she has zero expectations. She tries to keep her distance, but Coulton? He is exactly what his team calls him. A gentle giant.

He is kind. He is patient. He is so damn good. And most importantly, he refuses to let her believe she’s unworthy of love. Coulton does everything to make Ainsley trust in him, in what they could have, in the fact that she deserves something real.

The story is captivating, well-written, and the spice? Blush-inducing. Coulton’s dirty talk is next level, but what makes it even better? He never, ever degrades her. He knows she’s been broken before, and he’s made it his mission to never be the reason for her pain.

This book is heartfelt, steamy, and utterly unforgettable. Coulton and Ainsley’s love story isn’t just about romance, it’s about healing, trust, and finding light after darkness. Highly recommend.

Resist
Stingrays Hockey, Book 2
By: Mari Carr
Narrated by: Colt Carter, Suzanne T. Fortin

Opposites in every way, this is a fun listen. Coulton pops into Mick's bar by chance only to be smitten by the bartender. Ainsley is busy with all she has on her plate and after several bad experiences has no interest in getting involved with a man. But this is Thor! And when he comes to rescue at the bar, she knows her heart is going to be in trouble. From the wrong sides of the tracks, she is poor, living day to day, keeping her father's bar alive and barely making it. Coulton is a rich hockey player, with a happy and loving family. How can these two ever find common ground? This is a fabulous listen! I love Mari Carr and her writing style. She knows how to have those characters worm their way into my heart and keep me routing for them. This is a great addition to her Stingrays Hockey series and I can't wait for more!

Colt Carter and Suzanne T Fortin are the story tellers and they are fantastic together. Carter has a warmth in his voice that won me over immediately. His portrayal of Coulton is spot on. Fortin has a complicated personality to portray and she delves in, giving the nuances to create an amazing character in Ainsley. I enjoyed this one!

Mari Carr’s new Resitis a emotional rollercoaster with some not always gentle but fantastic (and at the same exact moment emotionally perfect) spice!

“Ainsley was Courtney Love.
Coulton was Captain America”

Ainsley Hall, the tattooed and pierced, stuck in her dad’s dive bar, in an endless routine of emotional turmoil looked up find a Thor-look alike walk in the bar door, meeting the life altering, Coulton Moore.

Coulton is the goalie for the NHL team and has come form the other end of spectrum with the opposite family experience, education and emotional stability throughout his life, reacts from the moment they meet.

I love the slow emotional experience they go through together in the same book as breathtaking over 18+ spice and a fantastic character driven story.

Perfect.

Thank you for the pre-read, Mari Carr!

This was such a sweet story. Coulton really was the best guy for our girl Ainsley. Ainsley had a rough life. She has never known anything good in her life. She doesn't know how to accept Coulton has her best interest at heart because every guy in her life has made her feel worthless and used. He brother and her dad were the ultimate pieces of crap. This story was fantastic in a lot of ways. It proved that even when life can be bad that there is always a silver lining to be found. The author did a fantastic job of keeping you engaged and invested in the story. She wrote a lovable main male character and a sweet but feisty female character. She did great with the world building and the character development. My only complaint that is not really a major complaint is i wanted more. I was not quite ready for them to go.

What a wonderful read! Ainsley has had a rough life and does not trust, especially men. Stingrays goalie Coulton never expected to find his forever in a dive bar. I quickly became invested in their love journey. Coulton’s patience and protectiveness with Ainsley was perfectly swoonworthy. Heartbreaking moments, tenderness, acceptance, doubts, fears, sizzling spice, sassy banter, strength kept me turning the pages. Recommend. Looking forward to more from this author.

Universal

Ainsley doesn't normally engage with men like she is with the gorgeous, clearly out of place, guy who just walked into her bar. A lifetime of mistreatment by men like her father and brother has made her build strong walls around her heart. But when Coulton not only helps her during an attack, and then declares himself her protector, those walls are starting to weaken with each day of feeling safe and happy with him. Now the only question is, will she give in completely and let herself accept his love?

Coulton has never been so instantly drawn to a woman like he is to Ainsley. He took one look at her and knew she was meant to be his. But he has his work cut out for him to get her to agree. Thanks to an abusive father and a loser brother, she doesn't trust easily, especially men. It's not like the hockey goalie backs down from a challenge, and this is one challenge that will get him what means more than any other - her heart, and them together forever.

Ainsley and Coulton are such an amazing couple. She's such a strong heroine, one who had learned to never lean on anyone but herself, until her very own golden retriever protector came along and gave her what she deserved - someone to trust, someone to love, someone to take care of her for once. Coulton is the sweetest, most protective man, instantly entranced by Ainsley, not realizing she was going to make him work harder than he'd ever before, to get past her defenses. Their journey, though not long, is sweet, deliciously hot, and made me impatient for more Stingray hockey love.

Resist is book 2 in the Stingrays Hockey series and follows goalie Colton as he falls for his absolute opposite Ainsley.

Colton is an only child born to older parents. They provided him with lots of love and did everything they could so he could play hockey. His parents come to visit him often. Currently he is the goalie for the Baltimore Stingrays as well as a big brother to Slade.

Ainsley was born on the wrong side of town. Her mother left when she was young. Her and her brother grew up at her father's bar, Micks. Her brother is a deadbeat. And sadly Ainsley pays the price. She may be the younger sibling, but she is the responsible one. She is currently running Micks due to her father's failing health.

Colton and Ainsley meet at Micks bar one night when he sees it and it reminds him of the bar back home. He stops in for a drink and it is love at first sight. Ainsley is a spitfire. Full of sass and no effs given. When he tries to ask her out, her answer is no definitively. She does not go out. She does not date. She only works. But when the deadbeat shows up, Colton wins the respect of most of the bar patrons and Maren, the waitress with how he handles the situation.

But that is not the end of trouble for Ainsley, Colton and the deadbeat. Her brother is a mess. And I mean a mess. But when trouble comes knocking on the door, he is no where to be found. Colton is the one who walks in on the trouble and takes care of the situation, at least temporarily.

No matter how hard he tries, Colton cannot convince Ainsley to fully trust him. She holds herself back from him. Is it from the way she was raised, or previous relationships gone wrong or a combination of the two?

She is so far removed from a situation at her apartment, that even her brother does not give her grief when he arrives home. He knows she has nothing left in her gas tank to snipe back at him.

The final straw happens on Thanksgiving and it is the straw that breaks the camel's back and forces Ainsley to trust Colton and call him. When he arrives, he is shocked at the state she is in. And the fact she gives him carte blanche to take care of her for the weekend.

When Colton arrives home with Ainsley, his mom and dad are there with open arms and pure love. His mom is a godsend and just what Ainsley needs given that she has never really been mothered and does not understand the feeling.

I love Colton's mom and dad. They step in just when it is needed and know when to back off. They make Ainsley feel like a part of the family, even though she is trying to remain just friends. She has never had this type of love, ever, in her life and it is so needed to help her get over everything that has happened with her brother and father.

Colton is a freaking saint. He has a savior complex, even though it is not specifically stated in the story. Yes he is in love with Ainsley, but he also wants to save her and help her in any way he can.

We never see what happens with Ainsley's deadbeat brother, but I am hoping he gets what he deserves. For everything he has done to her over the years, he needs to see what it is like to pay the piper.

I have listened to both of these narrators before, but it has been quite awhile. I love the timbre of Colt Carter's voice and he plays Colton to a tee. But I particularly liked him as Mario and Luigi. Suzanne T Fortin plays Ainsley to a tee. Both her toughness and her youthful vibe. Growing up on the wrong side of town forces her to have a tough exterior even though she is not that old.

Ainsley has had a really tough life growing up. Her mom left when she was little, leaving Ainsley with her father and her brother. Her dad owns a dive bar in a really rough area of town and is an emotional and physically abusive man. He was also neglectful. Her brother followed in her father's footsteps but is a drug and alcohol abusing gambler as well.

Ainsley is an adult now but is stuck living in a run-down apartment with her dad, who is now dying of COPD, and her brother, who will take anything she doesn't lock up to support his habits. She now runs the bar and they are barely covering bills with her father's medical bills now included.

Colton is the team goalie for the Stingrays hockey. His nickname is the Gentle Giant. He is a tall and hulking guy. He is kind and doesn't lose his cool. Colton has a Little Brother that he mentors that lives in a rough area of town. One night, after taking his Little Brother home, he stops at the bar for a drink. The bar makes him nostalgic.

When he walks in, he sees Ainsley. She is not at all his usual type but he is drawn to her. Ainsley is interested in Colton but BTDTGTTS and she won't make that mistake again. No guy like Colton would ever really be interested in a woman like her. Besides, she had no time for a life outside of running this bar.

Colton keeps coming back and the two get know each other. One night Colton comes in and finds the bar empty, except for Ainsley and two men who are attacking her. Colton saves Ainsley from a beating and SA. This and a robbery are payback for her brother's gambling debts.
Ainsley finally starts to realize that Colton is the real deal.

Ainsley still has a lot to work through but has support from Colton and his friends and family.

This book is definitely one that needed the trigger warnings it came with. I love the author's writing. And this is not the first book that she had written that had been deeply emotional. But the journey is worth it. This book has a HEA and good definitely triumphs over evil. Ainsley learns that she is worth someone's love and deserves a good life and Colton learns a lot too.

Mari Carr Stingrays Hockey bk 02 Resist

Rich People Baths

When he's not batting down Ainsley (wildcat) Hall's walls, Coulton (Thor) Moore is a man on a mission to win her heart. He's protective, a smidgen demanding, and hot AF.

Ainsley hadn’t been wrong about her first impression of him. The guy really was Thor. Which was wreaking havoc on her libido, because as he held her brother aloft, his muscular arms rippled and his brawny shoulders flexed…and her girlie parts woke right the hell up.
-- Ainsley Hall

I love the bond that Coulton shares with Slade, his little brother, through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Even better is when it grows to include Ainsley as they lament on rich people sports, foods, and more. It's sweet, entertaining, and shows her softer side.

As for her life, Ainsley has had craptastic luck in the family department. Running the family's hole in the wall bar isn't any better. She's been hurt and disappointed by practically every person that's come into her life, especially those she has given any piece of her heart, so she has defenses for miles. My heart goes out to her as she tries to navigate it all, and I love it when she finds it in her to give Coulton (and his family) a chance to help her heal. Not only physically but also emotionally and mentally.

There are some dark elements at play, so please keep that in mind. Ainsley gives a good fight. Thankfully, Coulton helps her ensure that she comes out on top.

I listened to the audio book. The narrators, Suzanne T Fortin and Colt Carter, are good. Colt sounded stiff on multiple occasions, but the characters were able to shine through. 🎧🩵🎧

The second book in the Stingrays Hockey series and Resist sees their goalie Coulton Moore fall for Ainsley, the beautiful bartender drowning in debt in dingy, backstreet pub.

This was a reverse grumpy/sunshine romance between complete opposites. Coulton, although his family wasn’t wealthy, they were rich in all the ways that mattered, and he’d grown up always knowing he loved and was loved by his parents. On the other hand Ainsley’s mother had ran out on her kids leaving them with an abusive father. Her brother was a drug addict with a gambling problem and her dying father heaped verbal abuse on her. She had a history of picking the wrong men so when Coulton was so obviously attracted to her and wanted a future with her, she didn’t believe him but when her brother’s problems overspilled onto her he was the one who stepped in to defend her. I loved Coulton, he was such a golden retriever hero with a stubborn streak a mile wide that kept him coming back. He knew she was just trying to protect herself the only way she knew how, by pushing him away because she didn’t think she deserved better. She wasn’t a weakling though and could fight dirty, she’d had to as Coulton had been the first person ever to defend her. With some drama from the people who were supposed to be her family, Coulton’s parents showed her what real family was. Ainsley thought what they had was a one night stand, but Coulton knew was just the beginning of them. If you’re a fan of sports romances with gentle giant heroes who fall first and feisty heroines they’ve got to work hard for then Resist is the book for you.

Resist by Mari Carr. Coulton walked into a dive bar and is instantly attracted to Ainsley, the bartender. Coulton is the goalie for the Baltimore Stingray. He has not been interested in someone in a long time, and one night stands is really not something he is into, but there is something about Ainsley that has peaked his interest. Ainsley has had exactly 3 relationships, each turned out to be as bad as the next. She isn't interested in starting a new one, but the big sexy guy who definitely looks out of place at her family's dive bar has peaked her interest. This was a cute story of one person who had trust issues compounded with childhood trauma. Being abandoned by her mother and verbally and physically abused by her father and brother has left her beat down. Coulton, however, knows he has his work cut out trying to tear down Ainsley's defenses and getting her to give him a chance. They certainly have a sexual compatibility that is hot, explosive, and off the charts. What Coulton does to wear down Ainsley certainly puts a smile on my face. Being called a gentle giant by his teammates fit him. However, in the bedroom, he is a straight-up beast. Loved the ending. Would like to know more about how Ainsley and Coulton turned out. 3.5 stars for me.

I loved Coulton and Ainsley’s story and I love this series! I cannot wait for more!

When Coulton, the Stingray goaltender, stops in at a bar in a part of town, he meets Ainsley, the bartender who runs the bar for her sick father. They have an immediate connection, but Ainsley is too jaded from her past to give Coulton the time of day. When Coulton stops in a second time, he finds Ainsley being attacked by two men after some money her waste of space brother owes them. Thankfully Coulton saves Ainsley and when he convinces her to stay in his spare room for the night, she realizes what a great guy Coulton is.

As they start to spend time together, Ainsley opens up about growing up in the bar to a not very good father (that is putting it mildly) and a brother who would rather drink and gamble then help Ainsley with the bar and their ailing father. Coulton grew up nothing like Ainsley, but together they find a bond that neither can deny.

This is an amazing love story and I cannot highly recommend it, as well as the first book in this series.

Resist, book two in the Stingrays Hockey series brings us a strong, protective, sweet hockey hunk of a man and a strong, sassy woman from the other side of the tracks. Two characters with two entirely different upbringings and life experiences that find something neither were looking for.
Coulton Moore the Stingrays goalie happened into a run down local bar in a neighborhood that he drew him in only to find a woman who caught his eye.
Ainsley Hall works in her family’s bar, cares for her ill father and is dealing with her brother’s gambling debts. She definitely doesn’t have a good life or the time and energy to date, let alone allow herself to think that this clean cut guy would want her. Coulton has his work cut out for himself convincing Ainsley that she is someone special and can have a future better than the life she is living.
I loved these two and Coulton’s persistent determination to show Ainsley what she deserves. I was so happy that they found their happily ever after and it was fun being along for the ride.

Ainsley & Coulton’s story is here and it did not disappoint. Ainsley has grown up in one of the worst ways possible. A mother who abandoned her, and a father AND older brother who physically abused her. She lives in the absolute worst part of town, runs her abusive father’s bar that she hates, and has to deal with not only her brother’s massive mistakes, but the fall out of the people he owes money to who come to Ainsley for payment that ends up in her receiving a beating and almost being raped. She has every reason to break and then some. But she stays strong through all of it and continues to fight back.

Coulton is your typical, hot as hell, rich NHL player from the perfect family who has everything he could ever imagine. But something is still missing. When he walks into Mick’s for the very first time and spots Ainsley behind the bar, he knew she was that missing piece. Especially when he shows up one night to find her being beaten by 2 men and prevents them from raping her. He vows right then and there to save her from everything and show her that life can be good. And boy does he follow through on that promise. The way Coulton takes care of Ainsley and never gives up on her was pure perfection. Add in their insane chemistry in the bedroom and 🥵.

Ainsley hasn’t had anything easy in life until Coulton walks into her family’s tavern in the rough Cherry Hill area of Baltimore. Ainsley takes on look at the sexy Adonis walking into her tavern and realizes she just might be ready to break her two year streak of forgoing men.

Coulton is a cinnamon roll MMC. He is a goalie for the Baltimore Stingrays NHL team who believes in relationships and doesn’t pursue endless one-night stands with puck bunnies. He sees Ainsley and feels installer for her, but also wants to take some time to get to know her and to knock down her walls to gain her trust. He quickly realizes that isn’t going to be easy because his Wildcat hasn’t ever experienced anything but betrayal and abuse from the men in her life including her father and brother.

This romance has some grit to go with the spicy connection between Ainsley and Coulton. Ainsley deals with a lot between her abusive father, and gambling & drug/alcohol addicted brother who sends his loan sharks to collect from her. With Coulton’s cinnamon roll sweetness to balance out his rough spicy side, there is so much to enjoy in this story.

I received a free ARC from the author and The Author Agency; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.

Resist is the 2nd book in the Stingrays Hockey series and features the love story of Ainsley & Coulton. Coulton is the goalie for the Stingrays and he wanders into the bar that Ainsley runs with her father. It's not in a great part of the city and Ainsley wonders if he's lost. Coulton is instantly taken with Ainsley and keeps coming back. She's a hard nut to crack, but Coulton is nothing if not persistent! I loved how he kept telling her how wonderful she is until she believed it (mostly). Ainsley has been let down by the men in her life so many times that she didn't believe anything that Coulton would tell her and he had to wear her down by showing her that it wasn't supposed to be the way that she'd always had it. That she deserved good and love and all of the wonderful things that come with that. I loved that so much, it was so sweet for her to finally see that she deserved his love and protection -- that at a minimum should be expected even.

4.5/5⭐️
Fate brings Coulton to Mick’s Tavern, where he meets Ainsley, who bartends there. An incident brings them closer but to Ainsley, what they can have is just a one night stand. To Coulton though, she is the one.

If you love a protective hero, you will definitely love Coulton. As the story progresses and we learn more about both of them, it is impossible not to root for them. While Coulton is a cinnamon roll beneath his giant exterior, Ainsley is a survivor and someone who has been through so much hardship.

Ainsley is still badly hurt by her past relationships and her family, and she resists the temptation to fall for Coulton. I loved it that Coulton does not hide his feelings though and this allows Ainsley to truly feel loved by him. Every time he feeds her or spoils her with wonderful dates, I can’t help but just fall for him deeper and deeper! He is irresistible. 😍
