So when her past comes to haunt her, he is ready. Maria is both innocent and jaded all at the same time. She knows just how dangerous the world she came from is, and now with Luc, she knows it's not much different. But he is everything to her. Luc is strong, and while he doesn't always show his skills, he brings them out just when they are needed. This is a love story that builds and grows. Each scene holds an emotion, whether fear or love and it's all woven together to make an amazing listen.
Elle Sonali and Mick Fanning are the story tellers and they are amazing. Sonali is Maria, giving her the innocence and the jaded feelings of her past and brings out her strength and passion. Fanning is that alpha male, protective and brave, willing to do whatever it takes to keep his woman. It's a fantastic performance.

I have the audiobook, and there were times I sat in parking lots and my driveway because I didn’t want to stop listening! As a Jersey girl myself, so much if this was like a warm hug, even if the characters weren’t the warm hug type. As usual, I listened out of order 🤣 but I didn’t feel lost (although I did get the audiobook for book 1) there are characters you’ll love, one you’ll love to hate, some sweet moments and some steamy moments. You won’t want to out this down

🌶️🌶️🌶️ (Great mix of open and closed door, all equally as delicious)
I found it so sweet that Luc has liked Maria from afar, but never made a move because of Nico. And even after Nico and Anna were married, he still was worried about bro code, and I respect that.
Maria is the poster child for don't judge a book by its cover. Her personality is totally different than I imagined from the little bit we know about her from Merciful Lies. Not to mention I love that she stands up to Luc.
Luc and Maria's first time together was absolutely delicious! Talk about swooning, not to mention I blushed. Love these two together.
Nice to see Maria, Anna and Giselle are becoming so close. I was curious to see how they would mesh. Glad it was more natural, and not just because they are dating the MMCs.
I'm going to consider this a medium burn, because Luc had feelings for Maria for a while. And I believe Maria was intrigued by Luc too.
Yes Luc girls do in fact have glasses kinks/fetishs, myself included 🥵.
I love that he call her Baby Girl, I fangirled everytime.
I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first. A major reason being I'm not a huge fan of the secret baby/accidental pregnancy trope. With Luc and Maria we see a relationship grow, there is a hidden danger lurking in the background and I was rooting for the couple from the very beginning. Plus Luc is just daddy or zaddy whatever the kids are saying these days.
As a person who struggled their entire life with body image issues, books like this make me feel seen and respected. As a product of the late 90s, early 2000s my "big boned" body type was never seen as desirable in society. Stories like this hit me on an emotional and spiritual level and I find myself fangirling from start to finish.
Overall the ending was a bit rushed, but I still liked it. And I can't wait to read Angel and Giselle's story.
Minor Spoilers Ahead
The only issue I truly had with this book was Matteo was lurking in the shadows of this story until the last 40 pages or so. Then he made his move. While this added to the suspense of the story, it didn't allow the climax to be that grand. And at times plot points seems to jump around a lot. For example one moment they could be at Luc's apartment and then randomly be at the bar. And I found myself saying well when did that happen lol.
However the wedding in the hospital after Maria got shot was 😭😭😭, I loved it! Hopefully we get a full wedding and party in the next book 💙.

This is the second book in the JERSEY BAD BOYS Trilogy by C.D. Gorri. This book was everything I knew it would be and everything I most certainly did not! (In a tremendously good way!)
I went into this book underestimating Luc. BIG MISTAKE! OMG... I had no idea that Luc was such a NASTY BAD BOY!
We met Maria, the bartender at The Den and Luc, the Council of the Vipers in Book One, MERCIFUL LIES. If you've read book one, you know that we received a little teaser snippet of what brought these two together. However, what we did not know is Maria has a secret that could put the Vipers and the entire organization in jeopardy. Luc, who has been secretly obsessed with Maria since she first began to work in their club, has claimed her has his own and is determined to uncover her secrets and what she is hiding.
DEVIOUS LIES definitely delivers! Luc, the quiet member of the Vipers really came out like a lion in this book! The dedication at the beginning mentions: "It's always the quiet ones..." Well, this is definitely the case when it comes to Luc. Luc and Maria scorched the pages of this book! This man is sexually unhinged and I was here, hot, and ready for every last scene! I'm not going to list any spoilers about all that is "Luc Batiste and all his glorious parts" but if you thought Nico was deliciously naughty, you are definitely not ready for Luc!
Time and time again, C.D. Gorri has shown how much of a skilled, talented wordsmith she is. The events in DEVIOUS LIES occur simultaneously with the events in MERCIFUL LIES, as Anna and Nico await the birth of their child in MERCIFUL LIES. Balancing parallel timelines isn't easy. Gorri pulls it off brilliantly and it's made me want to go back and reread MERCIFUL LIES again. I don't know where the inspiration for these Boys came from, but I am going to need more!!!!
I love the romance. I love how the women are curvy. I love how the women are spoiled and adored by these hot, sexy, possessively obsessed men! I just love everything about this series!
This is an amazing dark romance series, and I cannot wait for the final book in the series. The first two book were amazeballs, and I know that Book Three will deliver the same!

It’s always the quiet ones! Luc might’ve once been considered the most easygoing Viper of the bunch but once he sees Maria, it’s the beginning of an obsession no one saw coming, something he never dreamed himself capable of feeling. One Maria definitely never saw herself submitting to, much less loving!
Terrified and on the run from a cruel family known mafia member that considers her his, Mia, aka Maria, takes refuge as a bartender in the Viper owned club for protection with her sights set on King, the leader. When that falls through, she finds herself in the crosshairs of Luc, aka Council, the analytical minded one of the Viper mob. When the chance arises unexpectedly for him to claim her, Luc wastes no time, not even to explain to Maria that she has, in fact, been claimed, let alone just what it means to be his.
This was an awesome book!! I missed Nico, aka the King’s book but after reading this one, I HAVE to find out what kind of woman it took to claim and semi tame the cruel leader and co-founder of the Vipers. For Luc and Maria, 5+ amazing stars!!.

Great continuation of this series

She goes to work for a bar, and one of the owners falls into obsession over her. Luc has the touch her and die vibes down. He will do anything to protect her, but he feels she's not being truthful about herself. When their worlds collide, he takes care of her in the best way ever.
Would I recommend this to my mom? No. Would I reread this in the future? Yes, so it gets 5 stars. If you like Mafia and a quick read, take this on after you read book one.

MMC Luc Batiste, the Viper’s legal Council has been watching Maria through the club’s security cam and becoming obsessed with her as he tells himself she is too good for him.
The night a drunken customer insults Maria things get real nasty. Quite Luc becomes a beast in her defense and in turn Maria’s hero along with igniting the attraction she keeps hidden from him.
This story was an enjoyable one with plenty of dark romance, intrigue, touch her and die vibes, suspense, secrets, and family dynamics.
Good writing and characters made for a nice spicy, intriguing read.

I just read C.D. Gorri’s book “Devious Lies” and I loved it. I couldn't put it down. This book had all of my favorite tropes and I am here for it! The characters had good chemistry; their attraction is undeniable. This book has secrets, some stalking, a possessive/obsessive MMC I cant get enough of and a beautiful curvy FMC with lots of secrets. The spice was good. Lets just say Luc was demanding but I would happily be his “good girl”. This story follows Maria & Luc. Luc is a Princeton educated lawyer, counsel to the Vipers, has tattoos and piercings in all the right places 😉. At first glance, he is the epitome of quiet, calculating and controlled but as you look deeper you experience an unhinged obsessive, protective and passionate man. This was an unexpected win for me. I didn’t know what to expect. The character development was perfect. Great and thorough descriptions of the characters (especially him) you also get a detailed sense of their thoughts and feelings, both of them. She works in his bar, she has been running from some old enemies of her fathers and trying to stay under the radar. He noticed her and has been quietly watching her work for months. One night one of the patrons goes to far and he sees red crashing in to lay claim to her. Things pick up speed from there. Once he has declared his intentions he is all in, and she is not complaining. There is a mafia sub plot but I really appreciated that the romance was the front and center story and it did not take over that. Nice epilogues to wrap it up.

What a brilliant continuation of The Jersey Bad Boys trilogy and I couldn't get enough.
And It was so much better listening to the story which is perfectly narrated by Elle Sonali and Mick Fanning.Who portrayed these characters exactly as I Imagined,they tell the story with passion and feeling.
Maria has been running away and now she was back because her mum was sick,she is shrouded in secrets.
Luc has been attracted to Maria for a while, she stirs up something inside him he is obsessed with her and will do anything to protect her.Especially when her past won't go away.
Luc is wow so hot and when he is with Maria sparks fly everywhere.!!
This is such an enjoyable audiobook to listen to with a story that will keep you captivated from the start until the end.

I am seriously in love with this series. The previous book is one that I have read a few times now and was desperately hoping that this book would be just as good. News Flash! It’s utterly brilliant. God I seriously love a man with tattoos and piercings especially if like Luc he knows what he’s doing with them. This story has everything you could possibly want and more. I didn’t feel that anything was rushed and it just flows really well.
Very excited about the next book but Angel will have to seriously pull out all the stops if he wants to beat Luc.

This Book 2 in The Jersey Bad Boys Book Series has a gripping story, a well-crafted world and intense characters. These characters have unique personalities, complicated histories and believable interactions. I love how these characters interact, especially how he claims she is his. In true male form, he doesn't explain what the means right away. This story has action, danger, twists, turns, protective male, female on the run, chemistry, love and HEA. This series gets better and better and it is a must read book and series. This story is a stand alone, but it is better if you read book 1 first.

Devious Lies by C.D. Gorri an excellent mafia romance. Elle Sonali and Mick Fanning did an amazing job with the narration. The story is entertaining, interesting, thrilling, spicy, hot, action packed, passionate, and more. Maria is running from not only her past but her family too. Luc finds Maria intriguing, but he thinks she’s too good for him. One day Maria past catches up with her and luc is there to help her out but what will the cost be for Maria? This is the second book in the Jersey Bad Boy series, having enjoyed Merciful Lies the first book and was eager to read this one. The story is well-written, intriguing, spicy, steamy and sexy all blended well into this excellent storyline. I was hooked from beginning to end, I could not put my Kindle down once I started to read.
The two main characters are Maria, a bartender at the Den the Vipers and Luc who wants to discover what secrets Maria is keeping. Luc not only wants to know her secrets he wants her.

Over all it was very good book, I just got tired of her saying I love him but he won’t say it back or in the beginning constantly bring up her thickness of her body. And his obsession with Marina, he’s wanted her for 7 months prior before he gets her untouched body, that’s about how long he’s been without a women’s touch. I didn’t read Nico’s story but I’ll be definitely looking out for Angels and getting Nico’s when I can. For me the violence was low, but the sex was sky high.

I absolutely loved Maria and Luc. They are such an amazing couple. Maria is strong and brave when it counts, and the relief she gets when Luc takes over and handles things for her is palpable. It just goes to show you that you can be a strong woman and still rely on a man to make everything even better. Luc was strong when needed and a little soft, but only when it came to Maria. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Oh this was absolutely fantastic!! A rollercoaster ride with danger, suspense, romance, totally gripping from beginning to end!! Maria had escaped her past and the mafia bosses son trying to claim her as his 6 years earlier but with her mum now sick she needed to be closer to home. Hiding with the vipers by working in their bar she hopes it will afford her some protection. Luc is the vipers council, he is observing with Maria at first glance, watching from afar, keeping her safe. When he steps in after an altercation at the bar he can no longer stay in the shadows, Maria is his! Hot, steamy, action packed, edge of your seat story I could not put down! Can’t wait for Angel’s story

This is my first book by this author. I am definitely not disappointed. It started off with my heartbreaking for Mia/Maria. Then it jumped to me instantly falling in love with Luc. I would have no problem submitting to a man that's that hot and not protective. I can't wait to read Angel story. The conversation between Maria and Anna in the hospital about what she has to do before she can leave the hospital had me laughing so hard I was crying.

Wow !! Loved the whole book, but the cameo by “Kisses by Kylie” lingerie at the end was hilarious ! Luc and Maria’s storyline was hot , filled with sexual heat and serious “touch her and die” vibes. Well written storyline and fleshed out characters, can’t wait for book 3 ! 5✨’s.
