Two weeks until our dream wedding in the sun, his wife shows up on our doorstep.
I've finally met the man of my dreams. He is successful, generous and popped the perfect proposal. Our gorgeous wedding in Greece is all set. There's just one problem - his wife arrives in our home and won’t budge.
Scott told me he had never been married. That was a lie.
Dawn has nowhere else to go and a legal right to the beautiful house. It’s awkward beyond belief, but it's just for a day or two. Scott’s ex is all smiles and apologies. But when he leaves the room, she whispers to me that she won’t leave until the wedding is off.
Now, the days are ticking down to the big day. It’s like I have a shadow everywhere I go, eating my food and wearing my clothes. My possessions are going missing, too. And I fear Dawn is nearing the dark secret I’ve kept hidden all my life.
It is a disaster. But what Dawn and Scott don’t know is that I'm not who I say I am. And I will have my perfect wedding. No matter what.

I am so disappointed. I was quite enjoying it, despite Dawn making me anxious. It was an interesting plot with intriguing characters. However, the end was super abrupt - one of those moment where you look at the last page in confusion or just barely brake in time at a red light. I’m still not clear on who the villain was. It didn’t feel as though the character at the door at the end explained things convincingly.
Have you ever read a book and thought WTF did I just read? Well here it is... It took me over a month to finish. I picked it up last night and made my self finish it. Thank you it is off my TBR and finished.
Dreadful book that lurches from one far fetched drama to another with the intention of creating suspense, which it most definitely doesn’t. I wasted too much of my time reading this book
I almost quit reading this at about 69%. But the reality is that I can never not finish a book no matter how little I care for it. The book was a series of never ending gaslighting Sam is about to get married to a man she’s known for only a few months, when all of a sudden his wife shows up on the doorstep. The story is that there was one piece of the divorce paperwork that didn’t get through and Scott is sure it will be finalized prior to the date of Sam and Scott’s wedding. What happens next is the blackmailing by Dawn, the wife. Which includes moving into their house, constantly giving orders to Sam and so forth, and so on. I get so tired of blackmail, especially when there were other routes that the couple could have taken earlier in the book. The only thing that Dawn had over Sam and Scott was the fact that she could call the solicitor and make the finalizing of the divorce more complicated. Frankly if you’ve only been dating a couple of months and you’re so sure of how you feel about one another waiting would not kill you. I g an unstable blackmailer to take control of your life, however, might just kill you. The character of Dawn annoyed me to the point that if I could reach into my book and throttle her I would’ve. Then the characters of Sam and Scott were so weak willed that I also wanted to reach into the book and throttle both of them. The few other characters were so undeveloped that they’re not even worth mentioning.Sam’s secret is also not really worth mentioning. In the end and I don’t consider this a spoiler the wedding happens, but it’s not quite the end of the story - and to be honest? The end of the story left me completely disappointed.
THE BIG DAY by Ruth Harrow is just another in her long list of suspenseful psychological thrillers.
After a bad break up from a disaster relationship, Sam Thorpe has finally found the man of her dreams and after being together only six months they decide on a wedding on a Greek island. With two weeks to go until the big day, Sam opens the front door to a nightmare. Scott’s wife! Scott said that he had never been married and now this woman, Dawn, wants to stay with them as she is half owner of the home until they are divorced.
Dawn threatens to derail the wedding plans by not granting the divorce but she holds Scott accountable for past business dealings with her brother and is determined to make him pay. She insinuates herself into the wedding preparations and does all she can to interfere with the big day.
Meanwhile, Sam is getting warning notes and someone is following her. Who is sending the notes and what exactly do the warnings mean? Sam has struggled for many years to gain control of her life after a family tragedy led her down the path of substance abuse. Can she maintain her sobriety and finally end up with the man of her dreams?
As always, Ruth Harrow delivers. Her writing is clear and concise and always leads to an enjoyable read. I could feel the tension mount as Sam struggled with what to do and could feel the sea spray over the bow during the final confrontation. And as always, I look forward to the next instalment from her devious mind.
Annoyed at myself for going through this book. The premise was interesting. but I should have known better. I mean, who answers the door wearing just a towel when you are expecting guests later? And who, specially someone with burn scars come downstairs to see who’s your husband talking to again(!) at just a towel? That struck me as very odd in the first chapter. I can’t picture it happening to be honest. I should have stopped reading just then.😒 Anyways, Dawn is introduced and the storyline keeps going. The characters are not likeable at all! The only person who is likeable is side character Sarah. The main 3 characters are messed up but not in a deep way. They are bleh. The side stories that tie up the main story like why they are not divorced yet/ “Scott’s scheme” are weak to say at best. There are still too many things that do not add up! Sam has taken stupidity and making her self victim to a whole new level! the ending felt rushed. The events or should I say ongoing rows between Scott and Dawn and Sam that led to the stupid ending is also boring and not engaging at all. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone.

Oh my word! This was a fantastic read. The synopsis was a bit off, I never got the “I will have my wedding no matter what” vibe, but more of a “my fiancée says this will go on without a hitch, I’m going to stand by his side”. The Ex (Dawn) is a real piece of work, I have no idea what I would do in this situation! She does everything in her power to try and stop this wedding. She is awful! Sam (Samantha) has a secret of her own, but it’s not as ominous as I had thought. I really felt for Sam, and was hurt that Scott was giving into Dawns demands instead of standing up for his fiancée, and giving her the boot. The twist, the secrets, the betrayal … and that frigging ending - ugh!
Was this the most ridiculous book I've ever read (and completed)? Maybe.
There's too much wrong here to even dissect. The majority of the book simply could NEVER have happened and the ending was so absurd that I laughed out loud. Seriously.
Final question: Was the author being paid each time she said, "babes?" It really grated on me.
When I picked up this book, I was excited due to its intriguing storyline. Unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. Certain parts were predictable and inconsistent, and although the conclusion had a plot twist, it left me unsatisfied. The plot was fast-paced but was inconsistent in parts, and I struggled to connect with the main characters. Nevertheless, I remain willing to explore more of this author's works as this is not an awful read, it just missed the mark for my preferences.
This was a great read! It was a real page-turner and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. The main character (Sam) made me want to shake her because of how naïve she could be and the other main character (Dawn) was such a JERK! I really wanted to give this book 5 stars, but the ending was very abrupt....I wanted a chapter or two more to see what exactly happened with Dawn.

The Big Day. by Ruth Harrow. This book I found wasn’t too bad …just the last few chapters got a bit over the top. Samantha and Scott are getting married soon after a whirlwind romance … Both apparently are hiding secrets from each other …. Scott’s ex-wife turns up saying she has nowhere to live …. They have not seen each other in years … and needs to stay for a night or two! But is it all true or is she after something more … a lot of things happen while she is there but is it her or someone else.
This was a good “my husband wants to kill me” book and I really loved the nasty “I’m still married to him” wife that shows up 2 weeks before the wedding. She’s a piece of work. This is a 3.5 rounded up bc it held my interest all the way through. Taking half a star off because I really hated the ending.
Stupid women ... I'm so in love, oh gosh, I'm so in love. Um, no, I really don't know him, never met his parents, and I'm sure my trust fund money isn't any kind of lure for him even though I'm a plain looking schoolteacher.
I'm tired of these kinds of FMC. That's all, that's all I need to and want to say about this book :-)
OMG who cares about an upcomming wedding when a witch woman has descended on you! I would stay living in sin and kick her to another planet for heavens sakes I mean what lunatic would put up with that. Go witch woman, keep the antics up they're highly entertaining. Quite a good romp of a story with a crap ending, otherwise 5 stars.
I liked this book until the very last page. Then, the ending was totally unsatisfactory, I guess the author is going to write a sequel or something. It would have been a 5 star until the weird ending!
