*A Hellion for the Highland Devil is a steamy Scottish historical romance novel of 60,000 words (around 300 pages) written by Eloise Madigan and published by Cobalt Fairy.
No cheating, no cliffhangers, lots of steam and a happy ending.
In book three of this series, Isobel Knox has been leading Clan Clyde as her brother-in-law Laird MacRoss’s proxy. The council has decided that it is time that she marries so that there will be a man in charge who does not have to split his time between two clans. As we know, Isobel is the wild child of the four Knox sisters, and loathes the idea of giving up her freedom to any man. She agrees, but only if the candidate can best her in an archery tournament. Of course she wins aagainst every invited Laird, but what she did not count on was one univited Pirate Laird. Fast forward and there is a wedding, a castle in ruins, two wary clans, and former pirates looking for acceptance and to set up homes. Isobel and Alex both have strong and stubborn wills that clash often, as both struggle with past demons and future fears. An unexpected attack brings things to a head, and leads to a heartbreaking betrayal. This author’s twist on what should be every romance reader’s dream of a hero, a pirate and a Highland Laird, is that he wanted to be neither. His history is heartbreaking and his wounds are deep. But, his instincts are good and he is courageous and strong and very protective of his new wife. I love that Isobel has met her match and that when all is said and done this truly does become a love story. It is different, exciting, verbally combative and difficult to put down!
Alex was forced into the life of a pirate as a small child by his own father. When he gets the chance to escape that life and claim the life he was born to, he gladly leaves the sea behind. Isabel has had her spirit stifled by a cruel relative and now that he is gone she refuses to let a man control her ever again. In an effort to keep from being forced to wed, she arranges an archery contest and vows to marry the winner. She did not expect anyone to beat her. Now Isabel and Alex must combine theirs clans and find a way to live together for the good of their clans and each other.
Alex and Isobel made quite the couple along with all the other very well written characters, Well Done Author Well Done !!! I do have to ask, so Nora the oldest sister now pregnant with their second child at breakfast she carried one in her arms surely could not have been Archie her husband Leo's son by his deceased wife he would be to big and old for her to be carrying and his dad to be cutting his meat. This is a continuation in the lives of these Knox sisters and Archie was a main character in Nora's story he was not mentioned here as the rest of the family not by name that just caught my attention, anyway it is a very well written story.
The part where the villain is revealed is short and an anticlimax There’s a lot of internal dialog so ended up skimming parts and there is a lot of waffle in the book. Although you do get both their backstories, there wasn’t that much detail
Finally… I really didn’t like Isobel at all, she is just a spoilt child throwing tantrums. I didn’t particularly like her in the first book but thought she would get better, she was a difficult character to read and just overall not brilliant. She blows hot and cold, argues with him for the sake of it and doesn’t try to understand him or anything
Alex was set n a ship when he was ten. His Laird father was a mad man. Twenty years later the captain of the ship was dying. He told Alex that his father gave him to the captain and said to make a man out of him and what his clan name was. The captain was dying. After his death, Alex set himself to go home. Once home he got into a fight with his father and his father was killed. Alex’s clan was better with Alex as laird. He needed a wife, so he went to a tournament, where the winner got Isobel. Alex won and from then on so much happened. It’s a very good read.
This thrilling story had me all caught up in Alex and Isobel. She was truly a remarkable character with a fiery spirit. She vowed to marry the man that could best her in an archery contest and Alex is the man that does so. His winning starts them along their path one that is filled with twists and turns that had me cheering for this couple to their chance for happiness. I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book.
Alex has his work cut out dealing with Isobel. Title does say hellion! She had to fight in dealing with Geoffrey but she is a handful. She drove me nuts being obstinate but I considered the title & her personality fit the story. Enjoyed watching the transition & healing Alex walked thru in dealing with his life. Interesting concept to change from life in the sea to a clan to rebuild. Good story!
I really liked the beginning, an interesting idea & the dialogue was fun to read. There was a fair bit of ups & downs, more downs then I prefer. But I liked the characters & how he believed in her ability to fight & still was there to protector her. Her relationship with her sisters was fun to read & you could see the love & care for each other.
She is one feisty Lady and she is just the right match for Laird Alex. He wins her hand in a game and the adventures and battle of wills begin. Eloise Madigan has a well written story with characters that pull you into their lives. Awesome book, thank you Eloise Madigan!
Wow! Rory truly was a hellion of a character. He didn’t do anything unless he did it fiercely. Isobel was such a wild and carefree spirited warrior woman. What a great story about both is these characters. I can’t wait to read more stories about these sisters.
To lose every thing, then regain it with much more.
The cruelty of a father and losing your family to finding and regaining it all back with true love throne in. Wow what a story. I love this series, they keep getting better than the last.
A love affair that started with an archery tournament. A prize of a fair lass for a new Laird. The pirate laird and the best archer in the highlands come together to blend two clans together. Great story!
I liked how Isobel fell in love with Alex! I disliked how a member of Alex's crew turned out to be a crazy loon! I recommend this book to lovers of Scottish Highland historical fiction.
The third book in this family series and another winner! Filled with suspense, heartache, adventure and of course love. The story pulls you in even without following the series. A strong heroine and also hero makes for a good read!
When 2 hard-headed people meet you can expect fireworks
A lovely story of a love that was meant to be. It was good to see how 2 people could be so different but so much alike and see their love blossom despite the odds.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story even with the terrible battles and the horrible father who abandoned his young son because the son wasn't brutal enough.
Such unique and interesting characters who engage the reader from the get go! Interesting stories that are most compelling! The pace is pleasant and the romantic interludes riveting!
I found this book to be a wonderful story for Ventre and suspense and deception towards the end would’ve thought reform pirate and a tiny Highland less matched by fate
This book was the best read of this series. I loved the storyline and the battling characters. I felt like I was living their lives right along side if them.
Another good and enjoyable book a must read, very strong women those lasses of Clan Clyde can't wait to read the last book in the series. Great reading!
