Contentment: The Journey of a Lifetime

Rate this book
Where is God when it hurts? What do I do when I struggle with anxiety, depression, discouragement, fear, and face suffering? Many Christians ask these questions in a desire to grow in their communion with the Lord. Some struggle to know whether they should even ask these questions. Others struggle even more through these questions with great doubts that impact their daily walk with the Lord. How do we grow in the grace of God amidst the daily grind of life? How do we not only practically but biblically grow in contentment?

In a personal and yet accessible way Dave in his latest book, The Journey of A Lifetime takes readers on a personal journey of discovering contentment as defined in Scripture. Masterfully incorporating the Church’s rich teaching and literature on contentment, he provides very practical help for readers, equipping them in their efforts to gain contentment in their own lives.

An excellent book on the topic of learning contentment in the Christian life. He gives excellent advice using Scripture, “The Pilgrim’s Progress,” and events from his own life. I found much useful information in this book, as I also desire to learn how to be fully content in the Lord. I pray that as God taught Paul how to be content in all situations, He will also teach me. And that I will continue to grow in sanctification, maturity, and wisdom in my Christian walk. Books like this are very helpful towards that end, as you can learn from other believers who are farther along on their journey than you are. Highly recommended! :)

I feel disappointed in myself that this Dave Jenkins book has been in print for almost a year before I got it read. My only consolation is I was able to read it in a season of discontent, so perhaps this delay was Providence.

Dave writes in a clear manner and I always feel well taught when I finish a book of his.

There's another irony about Dave's book; throughout he uses examples from Pilgrim's Progress to illustrate his point. Pilgrim's Progress has been popping up everywhere lately for me. I always feel it is spirit-led when this happens.

Chapter 3 was very helpful. Learning to distinguish contentment from stoicism felt like a break-through.

Please follow all of Dave's work. He can also be found at Servantsofgrace.org.
