Rate this book
When hotshot litigator Aaron Anders’ wife, Suzanne, goes looking for a divorce attorney, every lawyer in town turns her down. Except one.
What was Camelia Belmont thinking?

Desperate to make partner, Camelia takes Suzanne’s case, despite Aaron’s notorious scorched earth tactics. But when another high profile client kills himself, and her chances of making partner fizzle, Camelia barely manages to hold her anxiety and the vodka bottle at bay. To complicate matters, Suzanne’s health is failing, and all she wants is to die divorced. But the Paradise Valley socialite’s life gets complicated when sexy senior associate Kaitlyn Fischer is killed on her way to a midnight tryst … in Suzanne’s car.

Was Suzanne’s car used as a murder weapon? And was Suzanne the real target? Camelia’s boss, criminal defense attorney Byron McCaffrey, doesn’t want any part of it, but when she discovers a link to a product liability case Anders won on appeal, Camelia is convinced the “accident” was intended for Suzanne. But she’ll have to come up with more than circumstantial evidence against Aaron Anders, especially since the cops and the prosecutor’s office decide the case was accidental. Camelia can’t help but defy Byron’s demand to leave the criminal investigation alone, even if it means getting fired..

All Suzanne wants is a divorce, but her clock is ticking. Finally, Camelia gets a break from an unlikely ally, but is it too late?
Can she discover what really happened or will someone get away with murder?

Wow! I enjoyed this second Camelia Belmont just as much as the first one. It was fun, real and had some excellent twists. Camelia is representing Suzanne Anders in her divorce from high profile attorney Aaron, whose mistress is killed in a motor vehicle accident ... or was it? Love Camelia and her surrounding cast!

Death at the Crossroads: A Camelia Belmont Mystery” by P.J. Donison is a fabulous book and one that I highly recommend to all mystery lovers out there. I cannot believe I missed the first in this amazing series, but I assure you that I will be running right out to get a copy now. The twists and turns in this very well-developed plot will hold your attention from the first page to the last. I read it in almost one sitting, it was simply that good.

Camelia Belmont is a divorce lawyer at a law firm in Arizona who is desperately trying to bill more hours, be made a partner, do the best for her clients, control her panic attacks, and stop drinking all at the same time. Suzanne Anders is fighting for her life due to cancer and attempting to get a divorce. Her husband Aaron is a very important lawyer in his own right who knows all the tricks and will not hesitate to use them to get what he wants. Every lawyer around town has said no to Suzanne because of who her husband is, but Camelia Belmont says yes… probably not the best answer given all her other issues. But she feels for Suzanne and is determined to try and help her.

As Camelia begins to realize just how far Aaron will go to postpone the divorce long enough for his wife to die before he has to pay any settlement, she is thrown into a situation that causes her anxiety to skyrocket. It’s also one that is a lot more dangerous than she first realized. Camelia has one client who did not get the result he wanted in his own divorce case, so he arrives at the law firm with a gun and kills himself right in front of her. She has a client named James Fischer who has just found out that his wife is having an affair with her boss, who happens to be Aaron Anders, and he is humiliated and wants a divorce. Finally, she has Suzanne, who simply wants to succeed in getting her divorce before she dies.

It quickly becomes obvious that all three cases are connected, and Camelia needs to sort through it all without losing her own sanity or violating client confidentiality. When James’ wife ends up in a fatal accident while driving Suzanne’s car, Camelia cannot help but wonder if the “accident” was meant for Suzanne.

P.J. Donison has created a wonderful female protagonist in Camelia. She is strong, smart, and quite good at wading through all the things that are coming at her from all directions. In addition, she seems very real due to her flaws, her severe anxiety, and her alcoholism. Camelia is an excellent investigator in the making and I’m betting she will become a favorite heroine to many readers. The plot of the story is excellent and, while there is so much going on throughout, it is woven together incredibly well. The dialogue is very well-written, and the mystery will keep you guessing right up until the very end, which to me makes it a perfect story.

“Death at the Crossroads” by P.J. Donison is an incredible addition to the Camelia Belmont Mystery series, and I think it will appeal to many readers out there. It will not matter if you like mysteries, action, family dysfunction (of which there is plenty), or simply a well-crafted novel, you will love it. Everything about the story, the writing, and the characters is fabulous, making it all the more enjoyable. I cannot wait to see what is in store for Camelia and the others in the next book. 5 Stars!!

This is the 2nd book Camelia Belmont Murder Mystery series by PJ Donison. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, Death Comes for Christmas, and opened when this one when it was released.

Divorce attorney Camille has taken on a new case and it’s a biggie. Suzanne is looking to divorce her attorney husband and given that no one else else in town will take her case Camille does

Death at the Crossroads is an intense story. It’s about a lawyer wanting to do the best for her client despite the numerous obstacles that she has to overcome - between a boss that is antagonistic, the client, her husband and lawyer that are not above board along with her own personal demons.

This was a fast paced story even if it does come in over 500 pages, it was gripping and it didn’t take long for me to get to the part where I could not put it down. There are many layers and points of view but everything came together at the end.

The ending also left the door open for a sequel, which I can’t wait to read.

PJ Donison's latest book hit the mark for me.
I have a soft spot for smart female sleuths, especially if they’re lawyers, so I couldn’t wait to read this book. Death at the Crossroads did not disappoint. Everything was bang on, Camelia was a terrific and somewhat flawed protagonist, her relationship with her clients and her colleagues was well drawn. And the mystery kept me guessing until the very end. A very enjoyable book. I can’t wait for the next in the series.
