This is beautiful, but I'm annoyed only one of our backyard butterflies made the cut. I realize there are a ton of butterflies. This is probably a little irrational.

I flinched so many times without meaning to 😭

A very pretty short guide to butterflies and moths! It wasn't very informative, though.

Gorgeous cover, photos, illustrations, and fun sturdy ribbon bookmark. Each page has a diagram of the size and an image of either the caterpillar or adult insect, and approximately 3 fun facts which is a great introduction to the subject. I loved learning that some species evolved to look different during wet and dry seasonsI and have camouflage that resembles bird droppings. I wish it would have consistently shown a diagram of the insect’s territory, listed an approximate lifespan, shown images of the caterpillar, chrysalis/cocoon & adult as well as images of the wings open and closed. With that said I plan on reading the fungi & seashell books in this series.

It’s so *pretty*. It’s got gilt on the cover and the edges, and a ribbon bookmark, so the kids will be all over it. It talks about safely observing the insects at the beginning, and addresses conservation issues at the end. Habitat loss is mentioned at certain points throughout the book as it pertains to the species in question, but mostly, this is just gorgeous pictures and illustrations of said butterflies and moths. There’s species specific info on each page, as well as sections for metamorphosis, camouflage, etc.

A very nice anthology for young butterfly and moth enthusiasts. Each page features a photograph of one butterfly or moth, with a paragraph about the creature. The book is organized into habitats: Tropical Rainforests, Woods and Forests, Fields and Grasslands, and Parks and Gardens. A total of 98 species are described (of about 180,000 known species!) So, not comprehensive, but the book showcases a wide variety of different species.

If you want to learn more about butterflies and moths, this is perfect for those just beginning. The information was simplified for the youngest researcher, yet interesting enough for all ages. I love the mix of photos and illustrations of the butterflies and moths, each one adding to the information.

I found this beautifully illustrated book on a day trip to Nashville, IN. I hope to get to see every insect depicted throughout my travel. It will make a good reference to treasure.
