The first novella in the sweet, spicy and paint-splattered Muse Series. Two young artists find themselves in a delicate dance of intrigue, one with a secret identity, and the other with a curiosity she can’t ignore…
Charlotte G. Faure has made it all the way from OKC to NYC to pursue her dreams while working out of a Brooklyn art studio. So when Charlotte wins the Zenith Prize for Outstanding Amateur Painter, she takes it as a sign that her artistic journey will progress in a reliable direction.
Or will it?
Fast forward a few months, and Charlotte’s creative tap is running at a drip. Instead of painting, she’s spending her time scrolling fangirl blogs covering the art world’s mysterious masked newcomer, Devo. Devo’s artwork is messy, expressionistic and undeniably... sensual. Compared to Charlotte’s neat brush strokes and chaste subject matter, Devo’s art is everything hers isn’t, and everything she’s trained not to be.
So why can't she look away?
One night, Charlotte’s fascination takes the reins, leading to a pen pal relationship with the mysterious artist. She’s heard the rumors, each of Devo’s paintings has a Muse—a real woman whose silhouette is transferred to the canvas. So, when Devo tells Charlotte he’s coming to Brooklyn and that he wants to collaborate with her, she realizes she has a choice to make.
Will she be Devo’s next Muse?
Devo’s influence has broadened Charlotte’s horizons; the question is, will she limit those expanding horizons to her art alone...
This was such a fun spicy little novella! Perfect for a pallet cleanser in between light and dark reads!
Both the FMC & MMC are artist, but our MMC is quite the mysterious guy keeping his identity hidden and creating quite the sensual pieces of art while using women as his “muses” in his muse series. Charlotte, the FMC, offers to be his muse and he accepts.. and let’s just say his techniques for his paintings are VERY SPICY.
This novella does end on a little bit of a cliffhanger which I loved because I love a man who yearns!
Disappointing. I came across it as a pen pal romance. That had very little to do with the story. The blurb also said nothing about this book being a cliffhanger. Maybe not so much a cliffhanger as a lack of HEA. The reader could stop here feeling very dissatisfied and not have to go on. I have no desire to read the next installment to see how it ends. I don't like either of these characters enough to read another full-length book about them.
Thank you to the author for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Charlotte, an artist living in New York City, is fascinated by another mysterious artist, Devo. Devo creates intimate portraits of women, known as Muses. No one knows Devo's true identity, where his art will appear next, or the identity of the Muses, unless a Muse chooses to reveal herself. The mystery has captivated the world. When Charlotte gets a potential email address for Devo, she begins a pen pal relationship with him. She invites him to Brooklyn, and he accepts, offering her the chance to collaborate on a new piece. Will Charlotte be just another Muse for Devo, or could this collaboration turn into something more?
This novella was a pleasure to read. Easy to complete in one sitting, but I drew it out because I wasn't ready for it to end. I love the mystery behind Devo, and I am dying to know more about him. The descriptions of the art and artistic process were beautiful and made me want to visit an art museum. The tension between Devo and Charlotte was off the charts; the closet scene will live happily in my brain forever. I am so excited to see where this story goes next. The ending left me with so many questions and even more mysteries to solve. I can't wait to read book 2!

A great read for those wanting mysterious romance mixed with the arty world, I really enjoyed Charlotte and Devlin’s story. Charlotte, an aspiring artist, is chosen to be a muse for anonymous artist Devo whose work has been picked up my media and celebrities alike. Unbeknownst to her, his particular method of creating his piece leaves Charlotte whirring but unfortunately also costs her when it is discovered she is the most recent muse. Battling her own feelings, her job and her reputation, can Charlotte let go of her feelings or will Devlin come back for more? Honestly a really unique story, Devo’s mystery gives a great aura of wonder to the first part of the book and as we dive in further to uncover his identity, there’s more than meets the eye to this secretive artist. Charlotte, while at times can come across a bit dramatic, is overall a sweet character whose life revolves around her artwork. Her affiliation with Devo is risky but she chases down the mystery with open arms.
4.5/5 stars 2/5 spice I really enjoyed this book! Somehow in such a small amount of pages there was so much tension, lust and emotions portrayed. It’s short and sweet but it sure packs a punch! I loved the depth in which Missy talks about artistic creativity and delves into the process of creating art and how artist struggle to create. The mystery surrounding Devo was so fun to read and the way he and Charlotte interact was to die for! The automatic tension and chemistry was off the charts. In the first moments of meeting I was blushing because my god was it hot and it only got better. I loved every minute of their collaboration and definitely wanted more. After the collaboration be prepared to feel some emotions because this novella ends in a way I was not expecting. But my god does it make me want more of Charlotte and Debo’s story!!
Splatter Me follows Charlotte and Devo. Charlotte is an artist who's creative flow is slowing to a drip. Devo is a mystery artist who's known for his abstract, sensual paintings of muses. He's well known for his art but his true identity isn't known. Charlotte starts up a pen pal relationship with him via email which is where things get interesting.
This was a well paced novella that can easily be read in one sitting but likely having you want to draw it out. If you're an artist (like me) or just appreciate art in general, this one will be a relateable and fun read. At 153 pages this one moves quickly but the quick air of mystery along with the pen pal relationship made this one easy to get into and fun to read through. It's well written and I really enjoyed it!
This was a quick and fun read! I loved it and it left me wanting more. I devoured it in one sitting and I’m about to do the same with Shape Me! The spice level was just right and the angst just about killed me. I totally knew where Charlotte was coming from and I absolutely wanted to scream at her for what she was doing. I got the lack of trust. Communication is a thing and Devlin failed to do that when it mattered and decided to get lost in his persona. I still adored Devlin and Charlotte and that was quite the cliffhanger! I need to read the next book immediately!
This book was seriously one of my favorite shorter sized books I think I have ever read. The fact this this is Missy Kaye's first release blows my mind. The tension was *chefs Kiss* and it did not feel like a short read, so much happens but it doesn't happen to fast either! It's one of those books that moves along at a natural pace and doesn't feel rushed or fast pace. I have never read anything similar to a masked mysterious artist, and I cannot wait to see what happens next! I absolutely loved her style of writing. Plot: 5/5 Spice: 3/5
I am stunned this is this author’s first book. The topic was so unique and different – and sexy as hell. It has just the right about of spice while having a story line that pulls you in. Will they? Or Won’t they?? Best of all it explorers the woman’s pleasure over the male’s. Loved that! I also felt a connection to the MFC - like we were friends and I knew things others didn’t. I am excited to read the 2nd installment and find out what comes next for Charlotte and her journey to pursue her dreams.
Fledgling artist Charlotte begins to correspond with a mysterious and anonymous artist. Devo is travelling the country, making intimate abstract paintings with his muses. When Devo makes a stop on his tour at Charlotte's studio things between them begin to heat up and they both find new sources of inspiration for their art. If you enjoy art this would be the perfect romance for you, delving into the art scene and culture. I wasn't sure at first but I quickly got into the story and actually really enjoyed the ending.
I'm not gonna lie, I almost rated this 4.75☆ because the way Charlotte acted at the end. But to some extent, I get it. plus, evoking emotions like that from me just made me love it more.
Fair warning: This is very sexually charged, even in scenes that aren't smut. It's the nature of the story that's being told. But i really enjoyed and appreciated how the whole thing was handled. Idk how to explain it, but Missy took a taboo subject, wrote a novella about it, but kept it dignified all the same. idk, I just know I will be diving into Shape Me immediately after I post this review😂
Wow! This indie author got me! Splatter Me again please! Charlotte and Devo - perfection! The story was original and characters were fabulous and relatable! I couldn’t put this one down! Charlotte is an artist in Brooklyn. She is very intrigued by a mysterious artist Devo, who uses a muse for his paintings. She has followed his work and writes to him in hopes to becoming his next muse! This is a quick read and you will want more! Ready for Book 2!
Not really my cup of tea (chills, spills and thrills) -- but I gotta admit that I found parts entertaining. And enough interest after being left hanging off a cliff to move forward and one-click the second book, "Shape Me" to see how this relationship goes forward or gets dumped.
Quick and easy read by a new-to-me-author. There were some editing slip-ups that prompted a shout-out for a proofreader!
This story was so short I don’t see any reason why it couldn’t have been wrapped up in one book. I found myself more frustrated than not about the whole thing. For someone who’s 27 she acts very immature. I didn’t like only getting her POV. Just not a great ready overall.
This was supposed to be a quick little read in between a few longer books. I was not expecting to be so smitten with Charlotte and Devlin! These two have such a connection, and I'm so excited knowing this is only the first book in the series. I can't wait to see what happens in book 2.
Saw this advertised on TikTok and decided to give it a read. The story is well written but I just couldn’t connect with the characters. I think what devo does with every woman is kinda off putting to what would be any relationship. But that’s just me! Great plot.
this was spectacular. i loved devlin and charlotte’s lil muse moment. i do think homegirl cut the man off a lil too quick but i get it. he kinda ghosted her after telling her she was special and only communicated through snail mail. i think i woulda lost it. i do not like anton though. he’s gotta go. charlotte and devlin better get an HEA or i’ll riot. 4/5
Omg!!! Hold on! I need the next book right nowwwwww This was giving me 2000s drama in the BEST WAY! The mystery, the secrecy, the letters! The spice was good too! Personally, fuck u Anton But other than that - LOVED it!
This started out promising but then was a bit lackluster in the middle. It picked up towards the end, but as a novella it didn’t leave enough time to not end on a cliffhanger. I’ll definitely read the second in the series, but would have preferred it to be a standalone with a solid ending.
This was an excellent book! I loved the story and the spice! It moves quickly and with humour. It had romance, plenty of hottness, and artistic flare! It really was enjoyable. I can't wait for book two! I am intrigued with the characters! Loved it!
3.5 stars - This is a fun, short read. Penpals finally meet, but you know what they say: don’t meet your idols. Things heat up quickly between them and cool off just as fast. The second book picks up with the same couple, so we’ll get to see more of their relationship develop.
If you’re looking for a short read that doesn’t feel rushed and is packed with a good mix of fun and spice, I highly recommend this novella! The author (Missy Kaye) has done a wonderful job of creating an undeniable chemistry between the main characters in a fun, flirty and sexy way, whilst still giving tension with the ‘will they, won’t they?’ I can’t wait to explore more of the characters journeys as the series continues!
From the instant I started reading, I was hooked on this story (stayed up to 4 am finishing it!) I love a good aura of mystery and secret identities in a romance, as it adds an additional energetic layer of tension, intrigue, and sensuality. Missy does an incredible job of creating intense chemistry between Charlotte and Devo while also making sure to not overshadow either of their personalities while they are together in scenes. I deeply appreciated how considerate Devo is with Charlotte, as he understands the possible power imbalance between him being the artist and Charlotte being his muse. Missy does an incredible job of making these scenes sensual and respectful, which highlights how female pleasure can be deeply admired while removing any sense of objectification. Highly recommend this book- two of my friends read it right after me and were also immediately hooked! You won't regret giving this series a try.
This book was one of those books that makes you miss it every time you have to put it down. I found myself thinking about it and once I was done I needed more! It was the perfect mix of spicy and sweet. This was my first taste of Missy Kaye's writing and I have to say I am hooked. I cannot wait to read more in this series. 4.5 stars.
