Wonderful Book Full of Wisdom

I went into this one already as a believer in homeschooling. I simply no longer trust public schools that often teach values out of alignment with the parents’ values, particularly if they are Christians. But, it can still be an intimidating decision based both on the time commitment and perceived inability to do it that many feel. The author here lays out the reasons why she chose to do it and both her and her husband’s experience with it. It is chock full of practical advice and wise counsel. I especially liked her emphasis on building a moral foundation in children, which translated to teaching them how to reflect the fruit of the spirit. She also talks about the need to build in milestones and gives practical advice on picking a curriculum. Through her journey, she demystifies the experience and makes it accessible to all. She also directly addresses some of the criticisms, such as the misbelief that home schooled kids don’t get enough socialization. Many of our friends home schooled their children, and it is a common practice in our church. I am often blown away by the knowledge and academic prowess of the children and the commitment and sacrifice of the parents who got them there. This author shows that same level of spiritual commitment. This book provides much needed advice at a time where more and more parents are looking for an alternative. The lessons shared here will help them with that journey. It is well written and full of encouragement. Very well done!

a sweet reminder

“Lessons Learned Lessons Shared” is a sweet reminder of God’s infinite purpose in the lives of parents. I tried homeschooling my two older children and failed miserably from lack of consistency. But this book is a shining example that there is still hope to accomplish homeschooling. I want to try again with my youngest who is now 4. This book was a blessing.
