Trip through your Wires by D.M Simmons is book two in the Curveballs and Kisses series. When Jake and Jenica made their appearance in book one I was so excited to read more about them. I would recommend reading the first book as it’s an interconnected series and these characters first made their debut there. I devoured this book so incredibly fast; I couldn’t nor wanted to put my kindle down. I would suggest reading content warnings just to be on the safe side. I dug the retro-theme the romance had and all the 90’s references. There’s so many good tropes in this book that I enjoy reading such as found family, grumpy/sunshine, he falls first and the best part it’s a baseball romance on top of it all. My gosh the chemistry between Jake and Jenica was amazing! It was just so good; then together with the tension was one of my favorite things about this book. I loved how Jake gave her space without letting her go and he was respectful; showing her that he was there. Jenica my heart aches for her and how people let her down. I could connect to her and everything that she had been through. This book took my emotions on a rollercoaster then let’s add in the intrigue of Cherry Grove. I thought this book was written so well with such an interesting plot that it gave me the one more chapter syndrome. The descriptions of places, characters made you connect with the words you are reading. Not only that but you could feel the emotions in this book as if they were your own. D.M Simmons is an amazing writer and I’ve loved every book that this author has released, I highly recommend that you check out this out. Huge fan and a two thumbs up read from me.

Danielle! What are you doing to me with these two! Jake and Jenica are a power team! They are adorable, they are a loveable couple and ones that deny their true feelings for each other, or Jenica definitely does. She cannot see what Ellery can when it comes to an outside perspective with herself and Jake.
So much happens in this book as its hard to compact it to a review but my heart has a place for these two. Ellery and Cruz also but this book isn't about their story. I like how it follows on from book one - Never Tear Us apart - with snippets of memories of what happened which was good.
I didn't like Royce's dad from the start but that's the power of Danielle's writing, creating characters you hate when needs must. A creepy guy who comes across with bad intentions and you know you're not going to like him.
The last half of this book took a turn I wasn't expecting but wow, it ties up so many things! Such a creepy setting also which adds to the atmosphere and what goes on in there.
Cannot wait for you all to read their story and love them like I have!

OMG!😱 This book just destroyed me!! I absolutely LOVE Jake & Jenica! They are so good for each other but they deny each other at the same time. Trip Through Your Wires is the second novel in the Curveballs & Kisses Retro Romance series by D.M. Simmons. So much happens in this book to move the story forward with the main and secondary plot outlook. It also shows recollections of what happened in Never Tear Us Apart, which is awesome in case you forgot something. The last 25% of the book… OMG!😱 is a total roller coaster of emotion and action! I really hated and despised Royce’s dad from the very beginning. Danielle is great at writing such substantial characters that are desirable and ones that are detrimental. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I hope you read this book because Danielle puts her heart and soul into them and you can tell. She is an amazing writer and I have absolutely loved every single book she has written.

What an amazing book this was and it was set in the 90's which is totally awesome. Brings back so many memories for that time (I mean I was in middle/high school). The story of Jake and Jenica pulls at your heart strings. Their story continues from the first book, Never Tear Us Apart, which you should read first to get the true beginning of their story.
The chemistry between these two is up front and center... Jake is protective and wants to be more than friends but cannot convince Jenica of this, while Jenica doesn't want or need handouts and believes Jake is meant for better things with his career. Even those close to Jake and Jenica, the fabulous and so in love couple Cruz and Ellery, know they are meant for each other and do their best to bring these two together.
Jake is Jenica's anchor with what happened last summer and they lean on each other when doubt rears it's ugly head. However, the past can never stay buried so when a body washes up on shore, Jenica fears the worst. No matter how many times Jenica tells herself Jake is only a friend, this incident brings them closer together but has the possibility to tear them apart.
Jenica becomes the victim of blackmail and pushes Jake away to save him and all that she hold dear. Those close to Jenica know something is up so Jake decides to pay Jenica a little visit. During this visit, the chemistry between these two heats up and finally graduate from the 'friendzone' to lovers.
The last 30% of the book is a wild ride of found family, past mistakes corrected, and healed hearts that you won't be able to put this book down. The relationship between all 4 characters makes the story even that much better. As soon as I finished Never Tear Us Apart, I was right in DM Simmons’ inbox asking about Jenica & Jake, and Trip Through Your Wires did NOT disappoint.
These two and their dynamic - the tension we watched grow and their friendship being the base of everything is so lovely & I enjoyed their relationship throughout the whole book, but their nicknames for each other grab you from the get go, and having them go through those ups and downs had me struggling to want to put the book down!

✅Book #2 in the Curveballs and Kisses series that was a fun reverse sunshine/grumpy story to relax with during the holiday season.
The story is full of chemistry, drama and full on tension.
The writing is solid and engaging.
The characters are likable and relatable.
The romance has just the right amount of swoon worthy moments.
The suspense aspect was perfect.
All in all, if you are a fan of a retro romance….you need to read Trip Through Your Wires.

There is not a day that I don’t think about this series and all the twists and turns that we are given. We met Jake and Jenica in Cruz and Ellery’s book, Never Tear Us Apart, and I couldn’t wait to get their story! Jenica spoke to me in a way that not many others will, maybe it is that Jen connection. But Jen has this strength in her that shows that she will work through everything and come out stronger in the end. She keeps most everyone at arm’s length and before Jake there was no connections with other guys beyond a hookup because she wasn’t going to get tangled up in that stuff. Jake refused to allow emotions to become a part of who he was. His goal is to play in the major leagues and enjoy the game. Maybe even play on the same team as his best friend Cruz. These two spend time together thanks to both of their best friends being together, but it was before they knew who the other was. You see they met each other at a party and then when Jen sent Cruz to help Ellery, Jake found her in the cove. These two have a standing benefits thing, but Jake wants so much more with Jen and she is scared of it going wrong because she doesn’t feel like she is the same league as Jake. Here’s the thing about this book, you get a continuation of the overall mystery from book one, but it is recapped to the point you don’t have to read it. Oh, don’t take that as a don’t read it because hello Cruz is just the best and everyone needs to watch as this man falls at the feet of Ellery. We get some answers about Richardson and we get to watch these two realize what those around them have seen, that they are perfect to heal the other in a way no one else can. They have a love that is beyond the music they both listen to as well as that amazing boombox that plays it. DM gives us so many things to figure out but she does it in a way that you know you are going to get answers and a couple of times in ways you didn’t expect. I love how this is more than just their love story, but has suspense and mystery as well as the most amazing friendship and found family ever.

I cannot get over how much I love this author's writing. I don't do sports romances, but Never Tear Us Apart definitely changed some of that for me. As soon as I saw book 2 was up for ARC's I jumped at the sign up for it! Because the author delivers. It's not only well written but the characters are relatable, the story flows perfectly and keeps you interested.
The back and forth between Jake and Jenica is pure perfection. The author definitely hit the mark with the opposites attract. I love learning more about these characters and what is going on since the events of book 1. Learning more about Jake and just his family was so emotionally moving. The depth that his family cares and the emotion the author put into this bit of the story was fantastic. Jenica's story was also a moving piece and showed the depth of her character. She's bold and a fighter and I love her fierce attitude. The author is amazing with her plot twists and keeping me on my toes. Side note the character Marcus definitely holds some intrigue for me as he's the silent one really only having something to say when he has something to say and I am really hoping for a book from him.
If you're looking for a book that's well written, has a plot that stays on point, an author who delivers in every way possible and a book that doesn't fail, add in some sports and characters that have banter, tension, and are filled with electricity like a live wire...... I'm going to recommend starting with Never Tear You Apart and then Trip Through Your Wires.

My prediction going into this read was that D.M. was back to steal my heart once more— I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest, and am overjoyed to report my prediction held true.
“The absolute sex on a stick that is Jake Chambers”, and feisty Jenica have the potential between them for a raging inferno, if only the flame would take. He has a filthy mouth, & she’s a hardheaded force to be reckoned with who more than gives him a run for his money. They were undeniable & inevitable.
I loved these two in book 1, and was so excited to hear that they were getting their own book, and they knocked my socks off. Everything about these two is HOT HOT HOT, and I of course loved the chance to see a little bit more of Cruz and Ellery, too!
D.M. always delivers an unrivaled experience that continues to keep me coming back for more, and I cannot wait to see what she cooks up next.

Yessssss!!!! Finally we get a book we can sink our teeth into! I'm talking plot! Substance!! Book 2 in the series and D.M. Simmons brings us back to Cherry Cove and everything we love about the 90s, baseball, small town mystery and dark secrets, and of course romance! Jake and Jenica are🔥🔥🔥! I fell in love with them in book 1 (Never Tear Us Apart) and was dying for their story! In a town where secrets could be trapped forever, we get to witness what happens when the lines of morality and sin are crossed. Jake, Jenica, Cruz, Ellery, and the rest of the boys are back baby! From the moment Jake saw her she captured him with her tough as nails sassy attitude and the tension between the two as they both try to resist the magnetic pull they've had since day 1 is top notch, their banter his witty and hilarious and Jenica is my girl! The bond they have with shared love of the sport and similar trauma only makes their connection that much more intense and holy crap the spice 🌶🌶🌶 Jake is a big boy and he likes to swing hard!!🥵🥵🥵 And let's not forget we have dark secrets to uncover and when they start to surface Jenica proves her willingness to do ANYTHING to protect those she loves no matter the cost. This is book 2 of the Curveballs & Kisses Retro Romance series and you absolutely have to read Never Tear Us Apart first prior to this one and believe me you will love it.
Now I loved Cruz and Ellery BUT Jake and Jenica are perfection I absolutely loved everything about Jake he is a protective, possessive, reformed playboy golden retriever and I think I highlighted every word he speaks to Jenica.
Jenica is strongwilled does not want hand outs and does not trust easy especially men. But after the events of Summer of ‘91 (book 1) her and Jake have a real friendship and you can see her drop her walls.
This is set in the 90s and I have to say the answering machine brought me back to my childhood!
Honestly such an AMAZING follow up to book one which is absolutely amazing but these two and their chemistry with each other and the friendships with Cruz and Ellery it all connects and worth staying up late to finish it.
That ending how long will I have to wait for book 3!

OMG! I absolutely loved the first book, Never Tear us Apart, but I am head over heels in love with Jake and Jenica’s amazing love story in book two! I devoured their story, got so swept up into it that I couldn’t stop reading and I didn’t ever want to let these characters go in the end!
The chemistry between Jake and Jenica was incredible, intense and deliciously spicy! I couldn’t wait for them to finally give into the pull that they seem to have. And when they did - DAMN - was it ever HOT, SPICY and ovary destroying!

Trip Through Your Wires was a great sequel to Never Tear Us Apart. We get to see Jenica and Jake’s story that was hinted at in the first book. Both are strong, independent individuals and neither wants to let go of that strength and the need to look out for others that they have always had throughout their lives. Where Jake has always looked out for his sister due to his history, Jenica took up the mantle to look after her best friend and her family. Her need to protect her loved ones ends up putting her into a sticky situation that is actually more than what she was led to believe it was, while Jake is trying to figure out exactly what steps to take that would allow her to keep her independence, attend school, work towards her dream, but still allow them to be together while he plays professional ball. The twist that D.M. threw into their story was absolutely something I was not expecting and when I started their story, was curious if we were going to have added drama like we did in book 1, and holy moly, we had some and more. I could not have seen the twists coming that were thrown our way and while I’m beyond glad that Jenica and Jake get their HEA, I was so concerned for Jenica through the majority of the book. Now I await book 3 to see what Marcus got himself into.

To say that I have been waiting impatiently for this book would be an understatement. I have been dying to read Jake and Jenica’s story ever since their sparks flew in Never Tear Us Apart. This book did not let me down! These two are absolute fire together! The push and pull between them was incredible, and the reverse grumpy/sunshine trope was so on point! I loved how Jake just absolutely refused to give up on Jenica. He was respectful of her need for space, but once she was back in his orbit he wasn’t going down without a fight. Jenica just shredded my heart. This poor girl was used to being let down, but Jake proved over and over again that he wasn’t going anywhere. Of course, it wouldn’t be Cherry Grove without the town baddie showing up, and he is definitely a character you desperately hate with a searing passion. This book, like book 1, kept me on the edge of my seat at times with the suspense. This one definitely has more of the baseball aspect than book 1, simply because it’s written during baseball season. The playlist is amazing!! The 90’s references were on point! Overall, this book was absolutely amazing and I could not put it down!

This is book two in the Curveballs and Kisses series and what a book it was!! I was absolutely hooked from the start and I absolutely flew through it. I couldn’t get enough of Jenica and Jake!

Thanks to these books I have quickly discovered that I LOVE me a good baseball romance. This is book 2 in the Curveballs & Kisses series. I thought I loved Cruz and Ellery’s story in book one? THIS ONE WAS EVEN BETTER.
I mean Jake and Jenica were EVERYTHING. I knew their story would be next just based off of how they acted with each other in the first book but what I did NOT expect was the wild ride and emotional whiplash those two would cause (in a good way).
What I love most about these books? For one they are based in the 90s which I LOVE. I mean them talking on cordless phones is so nostalgic. It’s honestly refreshing going back in time like that ♥️
Theres also some nail biting in these books. It kind of gave “I know what you did last summer” vibes and I loved that. One minute you’re swooning over a kiss the next there’s a freaking secret society and all kinds of crazy stuff 😂

This book is the second in the Curveball and Kisses series. I didn’t read the first book, and there were times in this book that I felt that. There were some subplots that were either held over from the first book, or just spoken about, and I was lost. I couldn’t wrap my head around some of what was happening.
That being said, the romance between Jenica and Jake was very sweet; they share a special connection. They had a lot of chemistry and Jake was really sweet. Jenica was a little unsure of her place with Jake. He is this big star baseball player in college about to be drafted, and she is at community college. He doesn’t care. He loves to just hear her voice at the end of the day, and he wants her in his life. But something happened in the first book, and Jenica runs into some consequences in the second book. Jenica is the type that cares deeply for those that she loves; she will do anything for them. Including putting herself in harms way just to keep them safe.
I really like the ending of the book, though I will say that the last maybe 10% of the book was full of some twists and action! Something that I didn’t expect at all, and I was pleasantly surprised.
Overall, this was a fun read. You’ll definitely swoon over Jake and Jenica!

I have been waiting for this release following the first book, Never Tear Us Apart.
I love the 90s vibes and nostalgia just as much as I did in the first. There was also quite a bit more baseball than in the first which was nice to read.
Jake and Jenica are reverse grumpy sunshine, which is similar to my real-life relationship, so naturally I cannot get enough of that trope. While Jake has major Golden Retriever energy, he also has a dark side when the people that he loves are threatened. Jenica keeps people at a distance because trust doesn’t come easily. Jake while very “giving” doesn’t do more than one night until our girl Jenica gets under his skin. Love that for her.
The second half of this book delivered in suspense and kept me glued to the pages. I did wish to read a more thorough wrap-up, but I feel that was intentional as we anticipate the next book. Am I getting MMF vibes? 👀
As always, I had such a good time getting lost in the Curveball and Kisses world.

Buckle up, romance fans! "Trip Through Your Wires" by D.M. Simmons is a wild ride you don't want to miss. This second installment in the Curveballs & Kisses Retro Romance series had me hooked from start to finish (just like book 1!). Jake and Jenica's chemistry is off the charts, and their push-pull dynamic kept me on the edge of my seat. This was such a great read! This book focuses on Jake and Jenica (who i loved in Never Tear Us Apart) and carries on from what happened in the first book. The pacing stayed solid the entire story. The twists in the second half caught me off guard and the suspense kept me hooked all the way through. D.M. Simmons’s writing pulls you in and makes you feel everything right along with the characters.
Jenica and Jake are such a power couple. I loved their friends to lovers storyline and how they genuinely showed up for each other. The slow burn and tension were so good!!! I was basically just waiting for them to finally give in to the pull between them. All of the characters have strong backstories that make you feel fully invested, especially as they work through one mystery after another. I loved it and already can’t wait for book three!

Holy cow, I loved Jenica and Jake so much. I don't know why I always get anxious when the second book in the series focuses on a different couple, because I think I ended up loving these two more than I loved Cruz and Ellery. Hot Shot and Sparky are fantastic!
This story follows these four as the past comes back to haunt them. A body has come up on shore...and it upend everything for this group of friends. Richardson is out for revenge, and Jenica takes on all the blame to protect the ones she cares about.
I really enjoyed getting to know Jake more in this book. I loved his background story, how he goes after Jenica when he decides he's not giving up, I loved how much of a simp he was for her. This boy is going to burn the world down for her, and I was here for it! I also enjoyed Jenica's story and how everything worked out for her. Blown away again with this explosive follow up to Never Tear Us Apart! I knew following Jake and Jenica's story would be exciting after Cruz and Ellie, but I really didn't know how much I NEEDED their story! Its realistic, relatable, full of witty banter and hot steamy/spicy passion, doubts, fears and a strong dose of reality! Simmons gives us dynamic duos who don't just want each other, but need each other to live and are driven by more than just base needs. I absolutely love the deep connections she creates between characters - no matter the relationship (i.e. friendship, family, romantic etc..). Well written, fast pace, dual pov, touch her and D!e mmc with another fiery, feisty fmc shoved snuggly into a slow-burn sports romance filled with mystery, intrigue, and more scandalous action! While everything seems to lead towards an ending we can all accept, Simmons throws out one last curveball - leaving us to wonder what's next?!

I have been waiting for Jenica's book since book one and the wait was so worth it! You need to read Never Tear Us Apart before reading this book.
I love that this was Jake and Jenica's story but you still got to see Cruz and Ellory's story continue as well! Seeing the same back and forth with Jake and Jenica that was in book 1 was amazing and watching their story unfold was amazing! This book had me all over the place and it was amazing!
When Jenica's past comes back to haunt her, Jake is the one person that she knows has her back. Jake would do anything for Jenica. The love these 2 have for each other is fanominal, however, both of them being stubborn, do not admit it to each other. This book had me on the edge of my seat for more reasons than one! I found the interactions and subplot interesting, but at the same time I found the main plot dragged on with repetitive dialogue between the protagonists that most of the time led to nothing or almost nothing, with insistence on one side and distancing on the other.
I can't say I didn't enjoy reading it, but I would have enjoyed it much more if the whole subplot had been more integrated into the book.
I found the main characters to have little chemistry and bite, and Jenica in particular often came across as heavy-handed and ineffective while i appreciate more Jake.
There was often a slight imbalance between dialogue and narration, with the former outweighing the latter.
A big ‘I don't know’, a huge potential that, however, did not convinced me.

Trip Through Your Wires by D.M. Simmons has been on my mind since I finished Never Tear Us Apart. The second book in the Curveballs & Kisses series was just as amazing as the first.
The nostalgic feel of a romance set in ‘92 made my elder millennial heart pitter patter with glee. I was squealing and kicking my feet at the chemistry between Jake and Jenica. The reverse grumpy/sunshine is something I am here for.
Jake is the type of man every girl dreams of falling in love and trusting her heart with. D.M. Simmons never fails to take my breath away with the stories she owns that have exquisite plot, intrigue, AND spice. It’s everything. Don’t sleep on the sports romance of the summer.

Y’all! This book had me all over the place. I loved Jake and Jenica’s story. I was rooting for them in book one and was so Happy to see DM had written their story! These two are wild. They both like each other but won’t admit it. From their first kiss, those two were bound to be together. Jake understands Jenica in a way most guys wouldn’t. They literally went through some trauma together. However, Jenica’s past comes back to haunt her and she has to do whatever it takes to keep her friends safe from the wrath of Royce’s dad.
I see a lot of myself in Jenica, strong willed, easily hurt, but protects those she loves.
I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them all and maybe another book?? I’d love to see Marcus and his love life, shoot maybe even Cal.

After the first book, I have been waiting to read this one. In the first book, we were introduced to Jake and Jenica. There was a spark that started between them.
In this book, we see these two finally give in to the chemistry and it is HOT. I really enjoyed getting to know these two better and seeing them together. I thought they made a cute couple. The way that Jake did not push Jenica and supported her, is what we all want in a partner. What Jenica shared made me feel closer to her. You can say that I was invested in these two.
