Darrin surprised Violet with the grand re-opening of the Christmas Lodge. He arranged for Millie Kay and Radley to cover the opening for the Junction Journal. Violet enjoyed the night but so much she went back afterwards to get her own pictures. Violet got more than just photos when she stumbled over another body.
I love this series, this book is no exception. Holiday Junction is such a fun town with all their holiday celebrations. Violet is a smart and determined journalist. She and her mom have the ability to get people to spill all their secrets. The mystery is well plotted and paced with plenty of twists and turns.
All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone.
This kindle e-book novella is from my Kindle Unlimited account book eleven of twelve.
New release with book twelve in 2025.
Violet and Brad are going to the opening of the resort. She goes back to interview the owner to find him dead. Murder or natural? The investigation leads to the truth and arrest of the killer.
I would highly recommend this series and author to readers of romantic family and friends relationships adventure mystery novels 😃🤗 2024 🎇🎎
“Tonight, the Christmas Lodge was more than just a building reopening its doors,” “It was a revival of everything this town stands for -community, tradition, and the magic that has always made Holiday Junction so special.”
“Because no one listens to nobodies, Violet. Not unless you make them.”
“It was a reminder that, no matter how complicated things got, there was always light to be found”
Christmas is in the air, snow falling and Holiday Junction is ready to enjoy the season with a BIG CELEBRATION. Snow, icicles, mulled cider, hot cocoa, carolers and rosy cheeks from the cold. The Christmas Lodge has been bought and renovated. Christmas market will celebrate the best of Holiday Junction. Even the Mistletoe Masquerade Ball has been moved to the Christmas Lodge. A great holiday season. Violet decides to head to the lodge to capture the beauty of the night. While walking through the lodge she discovers the body of Lionel Garland behind his booth. I could feel that cold air, feel the snow falling around me and picture the Christmas Market as I read. Violet starts to ask questions. Can she just ask questions while keeping her ears and eyes open? Or will she be snooping? Another fun, festive mystery with holiday lights twinkling in the Village of Holiday Junction.
I received an ARC prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it.
im now up to date with this series and i definitely had fun because they were quick and easy reads but the repetition and grammatical errors made it slightly less enjoyable. i also guessed the murderer early on as i have started to find a trend with who the author choses to be the murderer. however, like i said, it was a quick read so i dont have too many complaints!!!
This was a fun story. It has a holiday lodge, a Christmas market, ornaments, misunderstandings, and a new romance. I did not expect that romance or the ending. There are also a few fun twists, a bit of humor, and a couple of sweet moments.
This book was good, but nothing spectacular. I shouldn’t get so hung up on errors and names being misspelled, but it just irritates me. Overall, I like this series and will continue reading.
Darren has surprised Violet by restoring the old lodge overlooking Holiday Junction. The opening night is grand and memorable. But later one of the vendors is found dead. At first it has all the signs of a heart attack. Then the coroner notices an odd stab wound on the victim. Violet is quickly on the case, as she wants nothing to ruin Darren’s moment. But the case isn’t as cut and dry as they are made to believe.
Welcome to Holiday Junction! You don’t want to miss this year’s spectacular Christmas Festival! The opening scene is like a Victorian Christmas card, and Violet, Editor in Chief of the Junction Journal, is happily snapping photos for the online version of the newspaper.
Tonya Kappes is at her most creative when designing and describing scenes in Holiday Junction. This is her best, most imaginative work, as every inch of Holiday Junction invites: “Celebrate!”
Violet ‘s handsome boyfriend, Darren, came to her new apartment in the center of the Arts District. He swept her away in a horse-drawn sleigh, complete with brass bells and warm, cozy blanket. He took her to the newly remodeled Christmas Lodge, which had not been open in years. Darren wanted Violet to experience the grand opening with him.
Violet’s parents, stylishly attired, are helping out on the big night. Violet’s biggest surprise is that Darren is now the owner of the fully renovated lodge. Over the past year, he bought, designed, and updated the place of many of his happiest childhood memories without her finding out. Both his parents and hers helped with the work. Violet’s Mama, Millie Kay, is thrilled that Southern Charm Magazine sent reporters to cover the Lodge’s grand opening and the winning Holiday Junction Christmas Ornament.
Darren introduced Violet to Lionel, who had not been at the Christmas Market for several years. He won the contest to make this year’s ornament, and displayed several of his exquisite, handmade ornaments from past years. Evelyn Frost, his best competitor, was angry and said Violet should investigate and report on why he was chosen. Much later that night, Violet went back to the Lodge to take photos. At Lionel’s booth, she found his ornaments shattered and scattered about. Lionel was on the floor, dead.
The Southern Charm reporters want to find whodunit and get their big break from reporting the ornament designer’s murder at the festival. Violet is no longer looking for the big scoop to take her away to a major city, but it is still Her Scoop, Her Town, and Her Knack to help the sheriff find killers.
The quirky characters are demonstrated through realistic behaviors and conversations. Violet has changed so much since she accidently landed here a couple years ago. She was not one of my favorite people in Normal, Kentucky, home of Mae West and the Laundry Club Ladies, but she is a favorite here. I also admire Goldie, who drives the village tram. We see her in every visit, with clothes and accessories for the current holiday. Her genuine cheer is infectious to all, and she has helped Violet with past investigations. Mama has a collection of Southern sayings. This time I particularly like, “…someone was counting their bells before they jingled”.
The solution to Lionel’s death was a difficult challenge. At first, it looked like he had a heart attack, as he was an elderly man. How he was killed was not evident. There was one person with a motive and an alibi. I was completely surprised by whodunit! It wasn’t someone anyone, including the police, had their eye on. The Merry Maker gets in his final word. I highly recommend this cozy mystery! If you enjoy Southern cozy mysteries and romantic Christmas movies, settle in with your favorite Christmas music and hot chocolate, and enjoy Christmas with Violet!
From a thankful heart: I read an uncorrected copy of this novel and this is my honest review.
Holly Homicide by Tonya Kappes is the 11th book in the Holiday Cozy Mystery series (a spin-off of the beloved Camper and Criminals Mystery series). Like the other books in the Holiday Cozy Mystery series, Holly Homicide is set in the small town of Holiday Junction and centers around a specific holiday. In this case, Christmas.
At the story's start, the main character of the series, local journalist and amateur sleuth Violet Rhinehammer, is getting ready to experience the holiday season in all its glory. The town is buzzing with a huge Christmas Market, a parade, a gingerbread house competition, a tree ornament crafting booth, a Christmas carol sing-along, a snowman sculpting contest, and more.
Additional festivities, including a tree lighting ceremony, ice skating, etc., are scheduled to take place at the newly re-opened Christmas Lodge. This building was a huge part of Holiday Junction's history but was closed decades ago. The Christmas Lodge ends up playing a significant role in the plot and helps kick off a murder mystery that Violet needs to solve.
Holly Homicide is an excellent addition to the Holiday Cozy Mystery series and might be the best installment so far. I liked the Christmas aspect and the extra coziness that came with it. The first chapter sets the tone by describing the sights, sounds, and smells of Holiday Junction as it prepares for a month-long Christmas celebration. It was like stepping into a beautiful Christmas puzzle or cozy snow globe scene. The festive atmosphere really put me in the holiday spirit.
Author Tonya Kappes does a fantastic job with the writing and makes you feel like you are right there celebrating with Violet, her boyfriend Darren, and Violet's parents. Violet is equal parts sweet and spunky and easy to root for as she tries to solve a puzzler of a murder mystery involving a stolen Christmas ornament design and long-buried secrets. There is a touch of swoon-worthy closed-door romance between Violet and her boyfriend, Darren.
Holly Homicide is a fun, fast, and festive read. I recommend it to anyone who likes cozy mysteries, fun holiday stories, Hallmark Christmas movies, and Tonya Kappes books. Although the book is part of a series (and the rest of the series is delightful), Holly Homicide could be read as a stand alone.
Welcome to Holiday Junction—where cocoa flows, tinsel twinkles, and murder lurks just beneath the snow. Local journalist and amateur sleuth Violet Rhinehammer planned to cover the town's cozy festivities at the lodge, not investigate a chilling crime. But when a renowned artist is found dead, the Merry Maker’s magic is overshadowed by secrets, lies, and a stolen ornament design that could hold the key to a killer’s identity. As the suspect list grows—complete with bitter rivals, suspicious relatives, and gossipy Southern Charm reporters—Violet finds herself drawn into the heart of the mystery. With charming lawyer Darren Strickland offering both help and holiday distractions, Violet uncovers long-buried secrets hidden in the lodge’s tunnels. But with the killer still at large, the snow-covered streets of Holiday Junction may not be so merry after all. Can Violet untangle the twisted motives and solve the case before the tree lighting ceremony—or will this Christmas end with a deadly surprise? Holly Homicide is a festive cozy mystery packed with holiday charm, small-town intrigue, and a dash of romance that will leave readers warm and sleuthing well into the night. (Amazon)
Review:
The characters are well rounded and well developed. As Violet and Darren are getting ready for Christmas, there has been another murder. Violet will have to figure out who the killer is and why. It will not be easy to figure out but Violet is determined to do it.
The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and pulled me into the story from the very beginning. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The mystery was well plotted and there were enough suspects to consider and clues to sift through.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well rounded cozy mystery. This book was another good one.
Each book in this series is amazing and this latest 11th book is a page turner. Violet swept off her feet by her boyfriend, Darren Strickland, the sheriff's son as he takes her in a horse drawn carriage, to the newly renovated Christmas Lodge that he renovated. Her mother and father are already there hosting the Christmas festivities and taking pictures that Violet can use in the local paper she runs so Violet can take part in the festivities. Not only are there outdoor festivities, there is even an indoor Christmas market there and reporters from Southern Charm magazine to cover the winner of the homemade ornament competition. Violet learns that her boyfriend Darren is the new owner of the Christmas Lodge. When Violet returned back to her apartment, she wanted to take some of her own photos so she grabbed her camera and headed back to the Christmas Lodge to take some pictures even though everyone was supposed to have gone home or upstairs to their rooms. So walking around the Lodge, she's taking pictures and goes into the room that housed the indoor Christmas Market and finds Lionel Garland, who won the ornament contest dead and his booth and ornaments scattered around him broken with a wet spot under his head. Who did this? So, Violet, who has investigated cases before, decides after prompting by her mother to investigate. With so many twists and turns we are taken to a surprise ending. This is another fantastic addition to the series that is a must read if you like really great cozy mysteries. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Holly Homicide is a delightful addition to Tonya Kappes’ Holiday Cozy Mystery series, set in the charming small town of Holiday Junction. This festive mystery brings the perfect mix of holiday cheer, quirky characters, and suspense, making it a must-read for fans of cozy mysteries.
Journalist Violet Rhinehammer is back, and she’s swapped covering the town’s Christmas events for investigating a chilling murder. When a local artist is found dead, Violet is plunged into a whirlwind of secrets, family drama, and stolen designs—all set against a backdrop of snow, tinsel, and cocoa. As Violet unravels the mystery, she is joined by the charming (and somewhat distracting) lawyer, Darren Strickland, making their dynamic a fun mix of sleuthing and subtle romance.
The plot is full of twists, from suspicious notes to hidden tunnels beneath the lodge, keeping readers on their toes. Kappes expertly blends holiday magic with murder, creating a cozy yet dangerous atmosphere in Holiday Junction. The characters are endearing, especially Violet, whose determination and sharp instincts make her a likable and relatable lead.
While Holly Homicide can be enjoyed as a standalone, it’s the perfect choice for anyone who loves small-town settings with a dash of mystery, festive charm, and a touch of romance. Fans of clean, engaging mysteries with a heartwarming holiday theme will find themselves captivated by Violet's adventures.
Grab your blanket, a hot drink, and enjoy this delightful, festive mystery—it's a perfect holiday read!
Holly Homicide is the twelfth cozy mystery in the Holiday Cozy Mystery series. It’s Christmas time in Holiday Junction and the holiday market is just kicking off. The joy of the season is dampened when Violet stumbles upon the body of a renowned artist who had won the ornament design contest. There are rumors that his design was stolen and Violet used this knowledge to help narrow down the ever growing list of suspects. In a race against time, Violet needs to find the killer before it’s too late.
I love this series and anything by Tonya Kappes and this book was no different. This series is a great spin off and I love how Violet is a lead now. I haven’t read this whole series yet, but am working on it and love the books I have read. This book can definitely be read as a standalone and I don’t think I lost anything by not reading the middle of the series yet, other than a little bit of background character knowledge. Anyway, I enjoyed this mystery and the Christmas spin on it. The murder itself was very intriguing and I liked how Violet reasoned everything out and put the clues together. This is a quick cozy mystery read and I love that about this series. The descriptions and writing style make it so easy to get lost in this series and feel like I am actually there in the holiday market. If you are looking for a quick, fun holiday cozy this is the book for you! I can’t wait to catch up on this series and also see what will come in the future for Violet.
It's always festive in Holiday Junction, a town that celebrates every holiday with gusto. Christmas is especially fun as the town and its visitors celebrate the magical moments of the holiday season. If you know anything about this series, you know everything cannot be candy canes and gingerbread because Violet Rhinehammer has to have a murder to solve.
After the grand re-opening of the Christmas Lodge, Violet and everyone in town is riding on a high note until the body of a local artist is found. The cause of death is a mystery in and of itself. Violet is like a dog with a bone, and she is bound and determined to solve this mystery, as she is convinced the death was not from natural causes. The suspect pool grows as Violet digs deeper into the victim's background. She also soon realizes that everything it not as it appeared.
You never go wrong with a book in this fun series. The mystery is interesting and the characters are even more interesting. Where else can you find a town with a dog who serves as mayor? I am also enjoying the direction of the deepening relationship between Darren and Violet. I enjoyed this one immensely just because of the wonderful descriptions of the Christmas decorations and the snowy landscape. I wanted to jump into the book and join them in their celebration.
Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Welcome to Holiday Junction! If you’re new to this fun series, don’t worry, these books work as standalones or read together. It’s Christmas time and local journalist and amateur sleuth Violet Rhinehammer is loving life in her cozy town. She’s in for some wonderful and some not so wonderful surprises involving the newly renovated lodge in town, opening just in time for Christmas celebrations.
Unfortunately, a local artist who had a booth at the holiday fair at the lodge is found dead. Violet’s investigative instincts take over, and what a journey she’s on to find the true killer. Clocking in at 176 pages, I inhaled this festive mystery, following along as Violet collected all the clues. The suspect list is long, and she uncovers so many buried-secrets. I gasped at the reveal!
As with all of Tonya’s books, the characters are just as much fun as the mystery. The sweet romance between Violet and Darren warms the heart, and I do love Violet’s mom. The folks Violet interacts with around town add to the charm of the story.
The descriptive details bring this story to life. As I opened the book and started reading, I felt like I was truly in Holiday Junction, walking in the snow and viewing all the Christmas decorations with Violet. I hadn’t been feeling very festive, but taking in this merry treat and then putting up our Christmas tree had me humming Christmas carols.
So, go now, dear readers, and load up your Kindle or order your print copy and set aside some time to visit Holiday Junction with Violet this Christmas season. You won’t regret it!
Holly Homicide is another entertaining installment in Kappes' holiday cozy mystery series as well as a great holiday read to start off the season. Violet and the rest of Holiday Junction are looking forward to celebrating the holidays with the reopening of the Christmas Lodge. With plenty of activities and seasonal treats planned, no one expects the holiday celebrations to take a deadly turn. Violet and Darren are determined to solve this latest murder so the holiday celebrations planned can go on.
Kappes does a great job at setting up a festive holiday cozy mystery. Violet and the reader are swept away with the plans that Holiday Junction has in store for the holidays. When a body is discovered, Violet becomes determined to save the holidays. I love how much Violet has grown and changed since this series began. This town means so much to her, and Violet finds herself tested when a big scoop presents itself to her. I also loved seeing all of my favorite secondary characters back as well. Overall Holly Homicide proved to be a great holiday read that I would most definitely recommend. I look forward to reading Violet's next adventure.
Received a copy of Holly Homicide from the author.
Let's ring in the holiday season with this cozy mystery that will give you a front-row seat to the magic that the holiday season brings each year, plus a little murder mystery to add a little spice to your gingerbread latte. Tonya is an outstanding storyteller. This novel describes Christmas in all its glory. I felt like I was in this magical story, getting all the Christmassy feelings and trying to figure out the murder mystery with Violet. As a lover of old buildings and mansions, I had the best time reading through the holiday magic of the town and the lodge. I'm hoping future novels will go in-depth about other locations, as Tonya does a great job of being descriptive with the details.
I was swooning with the romantic gestures by Darren. Darren is the prince charming we all long for. I was captivated by his creativity and how much he does to make Violet happy. He is husband material if you ask me. Now let's talk about the way Lionel got murdered because that was the first time I heard of a murder by an icicle. It was a brilliant idea since no murder weapon would be available by the time help arrived. This holiday-themed murder mystery will leave you singing "Feliz Navidad" while sleuthing through the snow for clues. Can Violet figure out who murdered Lionel?
Holiday Junction is brimming with the spirit of Christmas. The newly restored Christmas Lodge perfectly captures the essence of the season with its warm fires, festive scents, beautiful Christmas trees, and a ballroom fit for royalty. Violet has a special connection to this Lodge, and it captivates her completely. Adding to this enchanting setting is a holiday market filled with amazing finds that are sure to brighten your season. One particular artisan creates magnificent handcrafted models that chronicle Holiday Junction through the years. Tragically, Violet discovers the body of Mr. Garland amidst the shattered remains of his antique ornaments, and it’s clear his death is no accident. Violet immediately switches to reporter mode, sensing that something is amiss. Could the murder be linked to his creations and someone’s jealousy? On top of solving this mystery, Violet is up against a national media company trying to steal her scoop. Being outdone could spell disaster for the town and damage her reputation. With so much at stake, Violet has her hands full! You won’t see the ending coming—I was shocked! A delightful and satisfying holiday read!
Holly Homicide is the 11th book in the Holiday Cozy Mystery series, a spin-off of the Camper and Criminals series. The spin-off is headlined by Normal's ace reporter Violet Rhinehammer. She exits Normal to move onto greener pastures and finds herself in a different small town.
The Christmas season is approaching, and Violet is busy covering the Christmas Market, featuring Holiday Junction businesses, and other festivities. One of the biggest events is the reopening of the Christmas Lodge. The holiday celebration is subdued, however, when one of the popular local vendors is found dead in the newly reno’d Lodge. Violet now adds solving a murder to her already overflowing plate.
Holly Homicide is a quick read and full of excitement. I continue to enjoy Violet and Darren and love how their relationship continues to grow as the series progresses. I enjoy getting to know everyone in Holiday Junction. We get to meet interesting people and learn how important holidays are in this town. The mystery was well thought out, full of suspense, and contained red herrings. I am looking forward to the next book.
Wow, I really enjoyed Holly Homicide, I could smell the cinnamon, other spices, roasting chestnuts, pine, cookies and all the other Christmas scents. Not to mention see the lights, decorations and wonders everyone saw. Violet and Darren are the perfect pair, they are great together and think a lot alike. Unlike some, when they get irritated with each other, they don’t hold a grudge. They agree to disagree, give each other the right to have their own opinions and move on.
I was blown away about the lodge and how Darren managed to surprise Violet. Of course he couldn’t have managed that without her parents help. It all sounded so beautiful and classy. It made me sad about the murder happening before Christmas, no-one wants that kind of thing to spoil the holiday. And those out of town reporters, kind of rude when they didn’t get their own way.
I was very surprised when they discovered who the murderer was and the reason why the murder happened. Got it taken care of soon enough for everyone to have a very Merry Christmas!
I need books to stop being so wonderful that I stay up way past my bedtime to read them. The Christmas atmosphere descriptions in this book are beyond beautiful. I could see the snow, feel the cold, taste the peppermint, hear the jingle bells, and smell the pines as I read this book. It was enjoyable returning to Holiday Junction and its citizens. The FMC is a delight to read about, full of all the heart and spunk one would want in an amateur sleuth. The romance in this book adds a sweet touch to the book. The plot/murder was well developed and well written. I had an idea of who the murderer was, but was not 100% confident until the reveal. The murder itself was creatively written. I had not read this type of murder before. The book was engaging (note me staying up late to finish it). If you are looking for a cozy Christmas mystery read, I highly recommend this one (and then I recommend the rest of the series as well).
This is the eleventh installment in the Holiday Cozy Mystery series by Tonya Kappes. This is a well-written & well-plotted mystery that has the old Christmas Lodge re-opening. To Violet’s surprise, Darren purchased the lodge a year ago and has been renovating it for the month long Christmas Market. Millie has been helping Darren to organize and execute the big event. They spring the surprise on her at the opening ball.
A local artist is found dead and Violet is smack in the middle of it. With the support of her crew and the local town, Violet & the police must uncover many secrets to get to the truth. In so doing this, she must keep a very eager team of journalists from ripping the seams of the town open. They have little respect for the town outside of it being a stepping stone to their big story opportunity.
This was a fast paced read and I enjoyed every misdirection, twist, and turn. I cannot wait for the next episode.
I was given an advanced copy and am not required to leave a positive review.
It's Christmas in Holiday Junction in this latest offering in Ms. Kappes’ Holiday Cozy Mystery series. The town has outdone itself with seasonal decorations and activities. Local journalist, Violet, is in her element covering the festivities for the Junction Journal. The highlight is the grand reopening of the newly renovated town crown jewel, the Christmas Lodge. Violet is especially taken with the Dickensesque holiday ballroom market there, returning after hours to capture its charm in photos. But all that quaint charm is shattered when Violet discovers the body of the grumpy winner of the annual ornament contest in his vendor's stahl.
Ms. Kappes gifts us with a charming set of quirky characters and a suspenseful storyline with enough red herrings to keep us guessing til the last minute. The continuing relationship between Violet and beau, Darren, adds a lovely touch of romance. So grab that cocoa, snuggle up in your favorite chair, and give yourself the gift of a good read.
The Christmas vibes were very much felt. It wafted off the pages, and I truly felt like I was there with all the details of the decorations around the town. Christmas was a central part of the mystery plot as it surrounded an ornament contest, which was unique but all the festive. Then just going around the town as she was trying to figure the mystery gave just screamed Christmas. It was just really well done.
As for the mystery, it was a great one. It was intriguing and interesting. There were plenty of motives to explore and suspects to confront. Each piece of the puzzle really made things come together, and I really liked that.
There were quite a few romantic moments that I really enjoyed. They were very much surrounded by the holiday events, and it was so sweet and lovely. It balanced out the dark parts of the mystery.

Another good mystery in this series. Darren has a big surprise for Violet and when he reveals it, she is captivated. It's Christmas time and the town is done up in style. At the Christmas market, Violet discovers the body of the man who won the Christmas ornament contest. He is lying there in a mess of broken ornaments. She isn't sure if he died of natural causes or was murdered. He was murdered and it was done in a peculiar way. The Chief gives her permission to ask questions, but to be careful and don't go snooping. There are some people from a magazine there and they are snooping around to get the scoop on the death. Violet is afraid that they will put the town in a bad light, and no one gets the story before she does. As Darren and Violet are looking around, they stumble on some information that could reveal the killer. Can they figure it out?
Another trip to the beautiful Holiday Junction and now it's Christmas. The Christmas village is in full swing and decorated so beautifully and everyone is having a great time. Even the Lodge has been remodeled and opened back up for business, and to Violet's surprise Darren is the new owner. Everyone is in a festive mood until an artist is found dead at the lodge putting a damper on the Christmas spirit and the Merry Maker's celebration. The suspect list is long and with so many different motives floating around this is proving to be a challenging case for Violet especially when Violet's envy tries to surface with other reporters in town trying to get the scoop on the story before Violet. This book had holiday spirit, mystery, suspense and of course another great who dunnit that actually shocked me.
When Violet Rhinehammer landed in Holiday Junction, she embraced the charming little town with her whole heart and soon became a force to be reckoned with! With each passing holiday she has faced the murders that threatened to ruin the celebrations and helped to bring the joy of the town back to life. This year's Christmas celebration with the grand reopening of the Christmas Lodge, the Christmas Market and the murder of a long-time resident were no different! Violet, surrounded by all the quirky characters living in Holiday Junction, has once again brought out the joy of the season! And a little touch of romance adds a special twist too! Tonya Kappes has delivered once again! Grab this book for a special part of your holiday!
