What traumatic circumstances in her life have contributed to the mental illness she fights to control? Married for two years, why did she ditch her career in accountancy to become a hotel chambermaid - without her husband's knowledge? Ever since I was a small child I have wanted to write a book. I loved reading from the day I started school. As soon as I was seven years old I joined my local library and went regularly to select new books, but sometimes I would sit and read in the library.

Once I reached senior school, whilst I did still read a lot of books, I became more interested in mathematics, but I also achieved excellent grades in English Language. I enjoyed geography and writing poetry, although my poetry was more often than not, humourous and for my own amusement.

After leaving school, I gained qualifications in accountancy and spent most of my working life in accounts offices and being a company accountant.

I always intended to write but things got in the way; getting married, having kids. The kids became teenagers and an even bigger demand on my time. The career, the grandchildren.

Then the event that finally kicked my butt.....the loss of the youngest of my three older brothers. he died way too young and the plans for his future...gone in a whisper. We were very close and I was devastated by his death. Months later, when I was over the worst of my grief, I began to realise that if there are things we want to do in our lives we must not delay; do them now while we can. I started writing my first book, my life story which is called "Trying to Understand".

This is a work-in-progress and I have put it to one side for now. I started writing "Going Up and Going Down" last June and did 50% of the work by the end of August. Family matters got in the way during September and October and I didn't do any writing during that time. It was mid November before I started again and my book was finished (apart from 2 or 3 little chapters which were added later during the editing process) by the end of January.

I am now divorced and I consider myself very blessed to have my son and daughter, two gorgeous grandsons and three beautiful granddaughters.

I love travel and intend to see as much of the world as I can. I like reading, playing chess, doing cryptic crosswords and sudoku.

My favourite authors over the years are many, including Brett Battles, Dean Koontz, James Herbert, Simon Kernick, Linwood Barclay and Mo Hayder, J.K. Rowling and Agatha Christie. The Harry Potter books are my favourite books ever, pure escapism!

I enjoy all kinds of music, chick flicks, food and spending time with my family.

I will say this...I did enjoy the book...and I really liked how the author...got you involved with learning about the main character...Helen...But... I had a hard time having the story go on and on...when sadly I wanted more hotness...and less story... I love reading erotic stories...and truth be told...sometimes there is too much sex..,and not enough plot...But... This one was such a tease by the forward...that it had...that I really wanted this book to have more fucking and less talking...lol

If I were to score it on story...I would give it 4 stars...it's just that I wanted more moaning...and less bitching about the hard times of Helen's life.

I was given a copy of this book in return for and honest review.
Its well written, and with a great plot.
A great balance between sexy erotica, and storyline with well developed characters.
This author had tried hard to balance the two and it works superbly. I look forward to reading more from this author. Well done Eva Bielby.

Although my reading tastes are eclectic I must admit that this was my first full foray into erotica. Previously I had laughed when a friend read me some passages form a certain well known book about a monochrome Swatch and that could easily have put me off for life but I felt sure that such books could be written well.

So before I started reading it I probably had my own preconception about its content. All in depth descriptions of body parts and their depth into orifices with the actual story, if any, taking second place. However I am happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by Eva Bielby’s first novel. Yes there were the graphic scenes but, unlike ‘50 Shades of Soft Porn for Frustrated Housewives’, they were not gratuitous and didn’t detract from an amazingly well constructed and written novel that flowed like a river taking me along with it. Is erotica supposed to be so powerful?

It drew me in and wouldn’t let me go. A highly emotional journey full of pathos, sadness and even a hint of humour which made me think that the whole thing was all too real.

I will now make a start on the sequel, which I am sure will be just as enjoyable.

I was given a copy of this book to read in return for an honest review, so here it is! The market is absolutely saturated with erotica, romantica, call it what you will, but this novel is different. Going Up and Going Down delves into the back story of a call girl, so it's not a book that is purely using sex, sex, sex to climb up the rankings chart. The story is excellent throughout, and you find yourself really empathising with the lead character, Helen. She is a girl of means and privilege, yet she has chosen a career as an escort; the reasons why become clear as you dig down deeper into her past and her insecurities. This book does have some funny moments but also some really poignant moments too, and towards the end you are willing her on to make the right decisions, for once. This is a fab read and would I would highly recommend. Ms Bielby is a highly talented author and has produced a brilliant debut novel.

Debut author Eva Bielby really hit the ground running with this, it's a cracking good read! Full of unexpected twists and turns, she takes the reader on a bit of a roller coaster ride through the many emotions that a young woman can experience while finding her feet in the world. From bright, happy - though naïve and impressionable youngster - the main character is kicked so many times in the metaphorical gut, as she toughens up through necessity rather than choice. I do not want to give any plot away, because this story will have you gripped, and at the end of it the author has cleverly left much room for sequels. Highly recommended, though not for minors as there is some graphic sexual content. A great read!

This book is flawlessly written, the plot well crafted and overall it is a thrill to read. There is adventure, tragedy, and erotica. The moral values of the reader are questioned and the author skillfully articulates the mindset and the emotions of the lead character so that I couldn't help but empathize and cheer her on.

I love Helen and can't wait to read about her in Eva Bielby's next book. Her character develops from a woman who has been hurt by love too many times and shuns emotional involvement. Through strength, determination and a heart of gold she reaches a place where she can and does love again. She is now in control of her life. What comes next?

5 stars it was a good read
I enjoyed the book the story was good. It was easy to read. I liked Helen. I felt sorry for her she was unlucky in relationships 1st her childhood sweetheart then her husband. Poor Helen but she got on with everything what was chucked at her. I laughed at times but i don't think it was suppose to be funny the description of body parts during sex. I was gob smacked at times. H
aha It had loads of sex. I wont say to much. I don't want to give anything away. It's worth a read. Interesting book read it for yourself

A Journey of Erotic Proportions!

Helen's story begins with a strong start and keeps the momentum of her journey from a life of prestige and comfort to an abrupt twist of events that lead her into a very different direction. I really enjoyed the pace and development of the plot, and how well the author portrayed Helen's personal side along with impact of each event. Her sexual adventures and escapades were well described, leaving the reader hot and wanting more....a fantastic book!

A definite must read!

The book was a gift from a friend. Love, love it and I treasure it. Has pride of place in my library. The cover is so tantalizing. Like the book title, I got it up and I can't put it down. It's a long time since I read erotica and I devoured it greedily. Eva Bielby is a beautiful writer who writes effortlessly. Very talented. A smooth easy going piece that kept me hooked on her writing. Can't wait for Book 2 and 3. Bring it on dear Eva Bielby.

Thoroughly enjoyed this story about Helen, and the things that had happened to her to take her to where she is in her life. It was powerful, sexy, exciting, moving, harrowing, and at times incredibly sad. The erotic parts to the story were very explicit but not gratuitous. Helen is a totally believable character as are the other people in this fast paced book. It was the first novel I have read by Eva Bielby and it certainly won't be the last. I am very much looking forward to reading what happens next.

‘The Hurt’ by Eva Bielby

‘The Hurt’ comes with a trigger warning - and with good reason! The clue is in the title…

Compelling, gritty and raunchy, this story is a roller coaster ride navigating multiple themes including love, betrayal, anguish and much more. I found myself rooting for the protagonist and am looking forward to reading the other books in the series.
