Alpha's War: Black Wolves

Rate this book
Sebastian knows criminals. He was raised in a family of thieves. But nothing could prepare him for the charming and dangerous gang leader and alpha wolf, Ian Black. Since Seb isn't strong enough to protect himself, he seeks aid from the Black Wolves - the most infamous shifter gang in the city.

While the alpha promises to protect Seb, Ian wants something in return. Seb has to pretend to be Ian's sex slave in public. Only problem is Seb's straight - or he thought he was. Ian's insistence tests his resolve at every turn. As violence explodes throughout the city, desire sizzles between the cat and wolf. But giving into passion is difficult for Seb who spent his entire life pushing other people away.

DNF'ed at 52%.

I'm officially done with this series. I can't take it anymore. I could. Not. Stand. Seb. He is the type of character I loathe. Helpless, hopeless, and self-centered. He blamed Ian for his negative circumstances and denied possession of the power to change them. He hated that people treated him with kid gloves but he refused to treat others with the respect that he expected. To add insult to injury, Ian was cast in the role of a pathetic "rescuer," constantly trying to repair Seb's problems and protect him. Fucktarded.

Bottom line: Stick a fork in me, I'm done.

Alpha's War: Black Wolves

And bring on Sebastian! I thought I loved Fisk, but then Seb marches in and I can't say I love him more than Fisk, I just have a different fondness for him.

He is introduced as pathetic and weak, but he is non of those things. All around great story and I'm diving into the next now.

Sooo, got this book through First reads on goodreads giveaways...and I kind of thought since it was for free that it would be a mediocre book, but I was wrong... couldn't put the book down from page one so I just read in one go. I didn't read the books in the series and it didn't bother me, but they are on my next to buy list :D.Really liked the characters, but most important I liked the way the author writes the story.

Same comment for all the books.

I got the first book free and now I keep buying them. I think I'm addicted because the more books I read, the better they get. This is a series and it's better to read them in order but there are no cliffhangers, just good characters that have stories I want to read.

I liked this better than Thief. I am looking forward to Milo and Fei. I am not sure why this isn't called Black Wolves #2 instead of haven city #4 so it was harder for me to find.

Doesn't speak well for Ian's sense of honor, loyalty, or respect

Ick! Ian sank to a new level of low by having carnal knowledge of both his fated mate and that mate's twin, who, even worse, turned out to be his Beta's/best friend's fated mate. While fate/destiny/life happens as it may, personal actions guide end results, and Ian was nothing but selfish, nasty and cruel to people who deserved, at minimum, decent treatment, especially Breaker, who would have given Fisk to Ian had he but truly wanted him. In this book, Ian continues as the spoiled malcontent he portrayed in book 3, only he knows it isn't right, and he knows Seb doesn't deserve such dishonorable treatment. His cavalier carelessness with other people's feelings completely out me off this book, and I skipped around to catch bits and pieces until Seb got the happy ending he richly deserved. Circumstances placed him and his twin in the dire straits they were forced into, and while they deserved strong, honest mates who could take care of them, NO ONE deserves to be manipulated, or taken advantage of, especially sexually, even if it was done prior to Ian's awareness, recognition, and acceptance of Sebastian as his mate.

I just could not enjoy the past two books - I guess I simply do not like Ian. The author could have set this up differently - I find it difficult to believe any self-respecting individual - in this case two identical individuals - would accept Ian's behavior. I also don't buy Breaker's calm forgiveness. The knowledge that my man got it on with my best friend before, DURING AND AFTER our own relationship would KILL any commitment. Period. Unrealistic, dreadful theme. 1/2 star.

I really wish GR had partial stars -- I would give this 2.5-2.75 stars, but I'm rounding down because it's my least favorite so far, and I had to have some way to show that.

It was okay, and I liked the ending/resolution (and will probably keep reading the series).

My main issue with this one, in particular, is that I don't really like Ian *or* Seb, so I didn't have anyone to root for (other than Breaker, but Ian treats him like crap most of the time). I like Fisk okay, but he also has huge communication issues, and it's frustrating that none of these folk can actually be sympathetic human beings enough of the time to draw me in so I want to spend time with them. Plus, it really frustrated me when

I *did* like Fei -- so I will be looking for his story.

Note about the writing: there are a LOT of editing issues -- structural issues (sentences), misused homonyms, tons of apostrophe misuses, etc. I just had to turn off my internal editor (that's what I do for a living, so it's not easy).

Action packed fun

Sebastian is probably one of my favorite characters from Zoe Perdita. I love how wickedly clever he is, and yet he still had been so clueless about his feelings for Ian through much of their relationship. I’m glad that Seb and Ian were able to finally admit their feelings for one another.

The one thing that I wish we knew more about is how Alwen & Sharp deal with now knowing how Tommy Booker was able to commit all of the heists that Fisk did while seemingly being somewhere else.

Much better

Ian and Sebastian are a perfect match to be mates. Ian fell hard and fast for him. Who knew Ian could be so sweet send gentle? Even romantic, I would say..I also like Fei, a good man with the same goals...to clean up Haven. Not every one is bad, they just have weed through the muck and save who they can.

Finally done with the Black Wolves

The Black Wolves arc was a pain to get through. The characters are unlikable (especially Ian and Fisk) and the storyline dragging. Anyway I’m glad I made it through (mostly by skimming) and now I can move on to other gangs and, hopefully, more likable characters.

See now, this book was problematic for me because I don't like Ian. But I *do* like Seb. So many mixed feelings and I guess, in the end, I don't hate Ian as much as I did before. Glad to see Connor and Seth make an appearance again. Do we get an Ari book, I wonder? That could be fun.

I think the author is a wonderful writer. The descriptions were well done and the “world” she has created gets a little more filled in all the time. I do think that at times her descriptions are a little much but she does a good job of giving the mood and ambiance to the scene being played out.

The characters are better detailed I feel in this one than the previous book. Ian is more understandable in some of his actions at least now. I feel we did get to know these two a little more and understand a little of why they act as they do.

The plot was a bit predictable. It was still entertaining. I wouldn’t necessarily say it was exciting though. It seemed more drawn out than the last book. The strange thing is the ending almost felt…cut short. We really didn’t see much after the two men really declared themselves and committed to one another. The end just felt a little wanting for more details.

This was a nice read. It wasn’t anything wonderful but it was solid and entertaining. I enjoyed it but was hoping for a little something more.

2.5 Stars rounded up. I had to read this book, if only to find out Seb's story and to eek out a little more HEA out of the previous couple; Fisk and Ian. There is a major plot point in the previous book that crops of here a lot. I say read at your own risk but be prepared for what some would consider an icky thing to go. Ian is a hard for me to like and I could have cared less about his story or HEA. One reviewer on her claimed Seb to be one of the most selfish MC's she'd ever read. I have to say, that's not far from the truth!

I own and have thoroughly enjoyed this series. I'm no literary critic like some reviews I have read, I read for entertainment and pleasure. This entire series ticked off both boxes for me. I particularly enjoyed that each new book, some of the previous characters make an appearance!! Well written and engaging, who could ask for more?

This novel continues the story of Ian that was the third wheel of the previous book and his relationship with Seb!! They had a long road before they came together with Ian having been with Seb's twin and Seb coming into his sexuality and experimenting with a Triad member! Overall I think this novel was better than the previous one.

3.89☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ pretty good book. enjoyable characters and the story line is good, pretty predictable but that did not take away my enjoyment. not one to give anything away in books so give it a go its not prefect but its good enough to entertain and distract you for a day.
