In our world there are beings that walk among us. They are Dreamwalkers. They are the source of our dreams and nightmares but their power can go beyond our sleeping hours. We will never know when we have encountered one as they may take human form or animal form.
Liv and her two children, Revna and Falkon, are among those dreamwalkers. After spending years wandering from town to town, this family is about to find out something that Liv forgot.
Once upon a time Liv loved a boy and he loved her back, but she can never seem to remember who's face belongs to the boy that owns her heart. She is going to find out who thieved her memories and exactly what was stolen from her.
For the first time in their lives Revna and Falkon live in a town with other dreamwalkers. Friendships are forged and they plunge into family revelations that irrevocably change them.
With the ability to wield world shaping power, Liv has to decide if love is worth the price of what was forgotten. Family, honor, and blinding rage grip her like never before. As the story unfolds they must all look at their nature and choose which light to walk in.
How Could I Forget by Em Fyre tells the story of Liv, a maere ( someone who can enter dreams of their enemies or anyone they want to disrupt their dreams with images of things they fear the most). There are also people called dromvisas who are the opposite of maeres; they bring about a sense of calmness and love in a world where maeres do the opposite. While Liv is a powerful maere, she was not raised to bring about harm to people on to those evil monsters walking around causing harm to others. Liv has been on the run from her abusive partner, Jaxon, after finally being able to get away from him. She has two children, Revna and Falkon; they are fifteen and thirteen years of age. Due to not wanting her ex to find her, they have moved around constantly. Though that is not the only thing that has kept them moving for Liv, it feels like there is something she’s lost and looking for. They finally settle in Reverie, Colorado, where things seem familiar, and they have finally found a proper home. I enjoyed the writing style and how it started with some background history sharing information that was an essential part of the main character’s identity—offering descriptions of what these critical pieces of information mean. I felt like the descriptions were to the point and didn’t include any excess information that might confuse the reader. I found the characters well written and that as the story progresses, you get to know them better and discover what drives them. There’s a lot of character development throughout the story and hints about things that will be revealed later in the story if you pay attention. The story flowed well, and I didn’t feel like there were any plot holes as the story moved forward. As you read, you come to really understand the feelings of everyone and what goes through their head as they encounter difficult situations. Especially during tense situations, you get the point of view of Liv and Revna and just how intense their emotions are at different points, how they are always thinking of their family, and how having certain reactions would affect others. Lots of action-packed scenes, and once you think you’ve got it figured out, something new is revealed, which has you second-guessing if you really know what will happen next. Overall, it is an amazing story that’s very well written and focuses on very interesting subjects. You are warned about several triggering subjects. I would advise readers to look at those and ensure they look at those to make sure that they can comfortably read the story. There is also an amazing playlist included by the author which makes the reading experience even better.
How Could I Forget? by Em Fyre follows the story of Liv Bane and her children Revna and Falkon, a family of three that are constantly on the move–but for what reason? Liv has moved around in search of something that she felt was missing, while searching for this missing piece we see dual POVs from her and Revna about their latest move to Reverie, Colorado. We learn about the world of dromvisas and maeres. Both creatures are able to impact human psyches as well as dreamwalk. While the maeres ensue chaos in order to gain more power, dromvisas are there to provide balance to the world by inspiring love and innovation. These creatures are able to live amongst the human world, and are able to shape-shift during the waking hours.
Fyre’s writing style kept the story progression smoothly, although, I did feel like the prologue was a little info dumpy, I personally prefer for the worldbuilding to be shown throughout the story instead of front loading important information. But I enjoyed the dual perspectives of Liv and her daughter Revna. It allowed for the story to not feel stale, I feel like if it were to only focus on one perspective the magic of the story would’ve been lost. We see Liv battling her own demons from her past, while on the search for something that is missing. Her development as a character, a mother, and within her power was a wonderful journey to witness. We then see Revna’s experience as a teenager in yet another new town, unsure of what her mother was looking for and a desire to explore her power. I enjoyed that the focus was on the two female main characters, but I do wish that Falkon’s POV was included as well, especially for pivotal moments in the story. Overall the character development is what really drew me in. I fell in love with the main characters and was on the very edge of my seat while they discovered different parts of themselves, whether it be their power, love or even things they have long forgotten.
How Could I Forget? brings to light a different lane of fantasy I have not frequently encountered. The dreamworld and the power that dromvisas and maeres hold is extremely interesting! There was a bit of romance, action, magic and so many emotions felt while reading. I had to reach for a box of tissues multiple times! I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a new look into the fantasy world or a heart string tugger!
How Could I Forget? is a great fantasy debut written by Em Fyre. In this story, we follow Liv Bane and her two teenage children, Rev and Falks, who are constantly moving to new cities but for what reason? Liv is a maere (being that is known to terrorize people by going into their dreams as well as causing hallucinations when they’re awake) however she was not raised to use her powers to harm others, she was raised to be kind to all. Now that her and her two children have moved to Colorado, will Liv finally find the peace that she has been looking for or will this be another inevitable move?
This story was a very enjoyable read. I love fantasy books and this is definitely high on my likes. I’ve said this in multiple reviews and I’ll say it again, I love a story with multiple POVs. It allows the book more character building and being able to view the story from different through the eyes of each character. With that being said, I do wish we got to see Falks POV but I still enjoyed the POV of the two women. There were many things that I enjoyed about this book, one being that when I read books, I illustrate what's happening in my head and with the author's writing style, I could definitely do that.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is dipping their toes into the fantasy world. Although, I would also highly recommend reading the trigger warnings prior to reading the book to ensure that you have the right mindset before delving into the story.
I love urban fantasy, magic, and shapeshifters, so I had to give this one a try when I saw an ad on Instagram. I hadn't yet read a book where characters could enter and modify each other's dreams, though. Dromvisas (those with the ability to enter dreams) can play together in the dreamworld with everything they imagine coming to life. Some can even cause nightmares or hallucinations or feed off others' dreams. I loved how they could recognize others of their kind by the patterns swirling in their eyes. From the look of the cover, I expected this to be a young adult novel, but it was told from two points of view--Liv, a woman struggling to move on from her abusive partner and embrace the darkness of her maere (nightmare) abilities; and her daughter Revna, a fifteen-year-old just coming into her abilities. The story also heavily focused on Liv's younger son Falks, who has mysterious powers of his own. I felt that the story was a bit slow to get into the action, but once it did, I had trouble putting it down. Not only do the characters control dreams, but they also each have their own shapeshift form based on their personalify, such as raven, fox, wolf, or lynx. This book was extremely well-written, with action, romance, betrayal, and lighthearted moments to tie it all together. I hope there will be a sequel (it's set up for one but has a satisfying ending).
Spoiler free! This book was a great read! There is was a brief adjustment period for me in the beginning that took some getting used to the unfamiliar terminology used, as the author creates some original lore that deals with the individuals who are blessed (or cursed?) with dream walking and memory altering abilities.
Once I got the vocabulary down, it was a breeze and a true enjoyment to read. I enjoyed reading about an FMC (Liv) who was a bit older than many protagonists in most paranormal books, and how she fights to protect and keep her children safe in a world that likely wouldn't understand or accept their powers if they were made public.
Overall this book kept me engaged the entire time and I was happy with the dual POV that gave some scenes from the POV of her daughter Revna. Seeing how they deal with their powers at different life stages was super interesting! The agony of adolescence and having crushes as a "dromvisa" (dream walker) was highly entertaining!
If you want a book that opens your imagination, makes you laugh and feel joy along with pain and sadness, pick up a copy of How Could I Forget? TODAY!
Great job Em and I am eagerly awaiting the sequel!!!
First, check trigger warnings that are laid out at the beginning of the book.
How Could I Forget? By Em Fyre is a fantasy novel following the life of Liv Bane and her two teenage children, Rev and Falks. They are constantly moving to new cities to escape her ex? Jaxon, as well as trying to find something that Liv can’t recall. Liv is a maere, a being that is known to terrorize people by entering their dreams and even causing hallucinations when they’re awake. Liv though, was raised to be kind and to not use her powers to harm people. The family of three has now moved to a small town in Colorado. Will Liv find the peace that she has been searching for? Or will this be another temporary stop for their family?
I really loved this story! As someone who is just getting into the genre of fantasy, this was a great read! I loved the multiple POVs and the writing style. I love when I’m able to see a movie in my head while reading and the author was able to create that for me with ease. I wish Falks POV was included but I love that I got to see POVs of two strong women. I definitely recommend this book to anyone starting their fantasy journey!
EM Fyre’s book How Could I Forget? Is a stellar debut entrance into the fantasy genre. The book follows a small family as the mother Liv searches for something she can't seem to remember. The audience gets to experience the story from two distinct POV’s which is great and Fyre does an excellent job switching between the two. There is magic and mystery all that seem to revolve around dreams which kept me coming back to learn more about this power process. I have one critique and it may be unique to me, however I really struggled at the beginning because the first chapter is off loading a ton of unique terminology without contextual explanations or definitions. I was pulled through due to the story, however I found myself skipping over these terms because they were either too similar or never explained. That is really the only thing I found wrong with it. The characters are firmly developed, her combination of modern and fantasy is done well and the explanations of the less savory situations are handled with great care. I can't wait to see what she puts out next!
The magic in this urban fantasy is creative but the writing I wasn't a fan of.
There's a lot of telling instead of showing. Especially, in the prologue. That entire chapter is a big info dump of the magic system, the world system, and the protagonist and antagonist backstories. I want a fan of that. It took some of the wonder of discovery for me. I didn't connect with any of the characters and I kept forgetting what ages the kids were and who was the oldest. We are told the ages but they didn't feel like they were 15 and 10. It felt like they were whatever age was most convenient to the immediate plot at that moment in the book. There were also same details that kept changing and grammar/punctuation mistakes. There were time I was confused on the plot and character motivations and had to go back and reread several times. Needless to say, this book took me awhile to get through. I would read 20-50 pages them have to set it down fir a while.
The ending was satisfying and I loved the chapter art!
How Could I Forget By Em Fyre a fantasy novel following Liv and her children. Teenagers Revna and Falk have not known stability, due to change of scenery as they escape Liv’s ex Jaxon. Liv has a special power she is a maere and enter people dreams and cause a positive or negative effect from this. I enjoyed this story a great fantasy world with many turns, they multiple pov’s makes this story every enjoyable. You can feel the emotions the characters are going thru as they go on this journey. The story provided great details when needed, I enjoyed both Liv and Revna pov during the story enjoyed how things look different from the people experiencing it. The story reminded me of a book I read by Ariel Rae Mister Nightmare a very similar theme of dream walking and depending by on the person a good dream or a bad dream is given so this made me happy to read this book and I enjoyed myself getting lost in this fantasy. Please read triggers.
How Could I Forget by Em Fyre is a more modern day take on a supernatural family and their struggles with their world and fitting in with a human world. Liv and her children, Revna and Falkon, struggle from a difficult past that continues to follow them, yet are determined to make sure their new life works for them despite those past difficulties.
Overall, the writing style of Em remains consistent throughout between her plot, characters and overall theme. The plot flows rather well from one scene to the next, and the ideas of everything remained continuous to me. I believe the only thing that could have assisted the overall flow of information would have been a breakdown at the beginning of the names and differences between everything.
Overall, I think it’s a great book if you want an urban fantasy with supernatural creatures in a modern day setting. It all the fun things combined quite frankly!
How Could I Forget by Em Fyre is a fantasy novel thats follow Liv Bane and her two children, who move from place to place, never seeming to find a permanent home. Liv is always searching for something, but doesn't know what. As we meet this family, Liv and her two teenagers, Rev and Falks, have recently moved to a small town in Colorado. They settle in quickly, maybe too quickly though. As the story unfolds, we find out that Liv is connected to this town and the people in it.
I thought that this book was a really great debut fantasy novel. The characters in the story were all very interesting, and I loved the premise of the dreamwalkers. The book is told in multiple POVs, which I found added to the journey that this book takes you on. I loved the mystery of this family as it unravels. I hope that the author plans more books from this world in the future, because I did feel like I was left wanting more!
I loved this book soooo much! Honestly, it was a breath of fresh air!
This Wonderful Urban Fantasy is an original, and exciting read. There are some darker themes. Please check all trigger warnings! The Romance is a bit of a slower burn, although the romance does take a back seat to the plot. The book is not spicy. There are some adult situations, and conversations. The book moves at a very quick pace following a mother, and her two children moving to a new town. While they are there they uncover some shocking secrets, all while hiding from her abusive partner. The characters are great. The book offer multiple POVs letting us get to know those characters on a more emotional level. The world building is set in contemporary times, while being full of fantasy. This makes following a long much easier, and a joy to experience.
What a cool magic system! Dream building, dream powers, shifting and playing with memories opens all sorts of doors for these characters as they try to fit in and find their way back to who they were and who they could be. Be sure to check your triggers but this book will keep you on the edge of your seat.
How Could I Forget? has a unique premise that explores the tragic impact of domestic abuse with a backdrop of the paranormal. Follow dream walker, Liv Bane, as she navigates her supernatural abilities, family life, and love. Watch as she discovers her past, regains lost memories, and uncovers the truth.
This is a breath of fresh air when it comes to fantasy/supernatural books. One doesn't have to memorize maps, languages, and/or peoples to get into this narrative. It's based in present day and one can relate to the many things going on. There's plenty of action and mystery, but not overmuch.
I had the pleasure of being an ARC reader for this book, and I highly recommend it. As a mother, I especially oved the mother-and-children trope, and the fact that the main character is a single mother is very inspirational. The cover art, created by the author's daughter, adds a special touch to this unique read. The book is intriguing from start to finish, with perfectly written characters. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy, suspense, and horror.
