Being a super soldier has its perks. I can run faster than a bullet train, lift a car with ease, and I even have the unique ability to shoot lightning bolts from my hands. Cool, right? Too bad they never let you read the fine print before you sign the contract from hell.
I spent my early twenties locked in a metal cage; tortured, manipulated, and groomed. I was one of many pawns in Infinitum’s game of global control. My sister rescued me from that nightmare, and with the help of a small team of vigilante outcasts, I’ve processed the trauma of my years in captivity…or so I thought.
Fate is a fickle thing. One minute you’re nineteen years old, brutalized to within an inch of your life, and the next, you’re thirty, staring the enemy in her beautiful green eyes and wondering if she will let you kiss her.
Fiona lives deep in bad guy territory. I shouldn’t want to protect her. I shouldn’t want to make her smile. And I certainly shouldn’t imagine the salacious things I want to do to her every time she looks at me. Giving into my irrational desire could be deadly, but that’s not even the worst of it.
When I find out Fiona and I share more in common than I ever thought possible, the line between good and evil blurs. Am I the hero, or am I the damaged soul who chooses love and lets the world burn?
Code Firebolt is a steamy and suspenseful super soldier romance and contains scenes that some readers may find disturbing. It is intended for an adult audience. Check the author’s website for a complete list of content warnings.
Laura Mowery has had her nose in a book since she learned her ABC’s, so it's no surprise that she pursued a career as an author. She grew up obsessed with stories, especially any that included supernatural or otherworldly elements. She also loved to get swept away on romantic adventures. Now she gets to combine the two and write about what she loves; suspense, superpowers, and steamy romance.
Laura lives in San Diego, CA with her husband, two cats and a dog. If she’s not writing, you’ll find her adventuring with her husband, eating tacos, drinking local craft beer, or curled up with a book.
⚡️Intense chemistry between these destine-to-be characters.
Fiona is starting her life over from the ground up after being excommunicated from her father’s cu|t for a scandal she was falsely accused of. She throws herself into the only choice that was ever hers—her career in cybersecurity at Reilly Tech—unknowingly making herself a target in an investigation surrounding Infinitum.
Clay is a super soldier, recovering from his years of torturous captivity in Infinitum—a secret organization forcibly creating super soldiers as a way to gain power. His team has been assigned to Reilly Tech to uncover a pilfering operation funneling money to the Church of Infinitum, but also to uncover the Infinitum power players who have infiltrated Reilly Tech.
When Fiona is suspected of being a mole because of her past affiliation with the Infinitum Church, the team organizes an investigation where they bring her onto the team to help them uncover where the money is being funneled, forcing close proximity between her and Clay.
To Clay, she’s the enemy and guilty until proven innocent. Doesn’t matter that he can barely control his superpower when around her or that she’s perfect for him in every way, she’s Infinitum scum. Loyal to fault, Fiona does her job to uncover the true mole while fighting her attraction for Clay and trying her best to ignore his hot and cold demeanor. But when the team’s cover is blown, these enemies-to-lovers become A LOT closer.😏
This was an intense, slow burn, gritty read, full of steam, angst, suspense, and punches of humor to keep you turning the pages late into the night. Grab your tissues and snuggle in for this great read. My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Code Name: Firebolt is the sixth installment of the Infinitum Series and the HOTTEST of the bunch. I fell in love with Clay literally the moment we first see him and Sylvie (his sister who we meet in Code Name: Grizzly) and for him to have his own book, I knew I was going to swoon for him hardcore.
I'm a sucker for an enemies-to-lovers romance. I'm an even bigger sucker for an enemies-to-lovers romance that takes place in an office setting.
The chemistry is palpable upon their first meeting. Clay thinks Fiona is working for the enemy. Fiona thinks he's a Grade A d-bag (who's also smokin' hot!). The bickering is top notch. The stolen glances and the witty banter had me laughing and wishing I was in the back seat of their car.
One thing I will point out is that the writing of Fiona's separation from the Infinitum organization is so beautifully, well thought out and accurate. I related to Fiona on so many levels and for the first time in a long time, I felt validated.
When I went into this book (especially after that reveal in the book prior, Code Name: Phoenix) knowing there would be a twist of some sort. However, the twist(s) we were given were not only an emotionally packed gut-punch, but also so surprising that I nearly threw my phone because I totally didn't see *that* coming.
The Infinitum Series delivers everything you want out of a book--and in this case, a super soldier using his abilities for *spicy timez*. All joking aside, This was a 5-star read for me and I will recommend everyone read it until I'm blue in the face.
Clayton Fox is a sarcastic smart aleck who tries to hide his pain with his wit, and I AM SO HERE FOR IT! His POV had me laughing out loud. But when it counts, he’s dedicated and focused, and swoon-worthy IMHO. Fiona Edgewater is waking up after living her life on top of a mountain of lives and deceptions. She’s determined to prove herself, and that made me love her.
In this fast-paced sixth installment in the Infinitum Series, we get some endings to old questions and new ones are posed. The romance is sweet and funny, and STEAMY. This is a super soldier series, so don’t expect Clark Kent. Instead you’ll be rewarded with intelligent plot, swoony ex-military men, and devastatingly smart women. If you like thrilling adventures, the enemies-to-lovers forced-proximity trope, a wide cast of loveable characters with enhanced abilities, and steamy shower scenes (iykyk 😏), Firebolt is the romance for you!
If you haven’t read the previous books in this series, I’d start with book one, Code Name: Timberwolf. The twist and turns won’t be nearly as twisty if you don’t.
Going into reading "Code Name: Firebolt," I already knew Clay had the ability to make me laugh. What I did not expect, was that I would come to love him as the younger brother I always wanted but never had. Author Laura Mowery does not shy away from letting us see Clay's vulnerability or the fact that he covers his pain with humor. I suspect it's because I have 30 years on him that my protective sister bear instincts were firing on all cylinders during his story. I absolutely adore Clay and Fiona together. They literally have a magnetic pull toward one another and I couldn't be happier for my adopted fictional baby bro.
An overall well rounded romantic suspense story that tics all the boxes and then some. Intrigue, secret alliances, plot twists, pain of loss, birth, love and hope for a new beginning. Oh there is also some creepy cult stuff and of course strapping soldiers with super powers.
I received a copy courtesy of the author, and this is my voluntarily given honest review.
Ugh, I hate how long I have to wait for the next one. This was awesome!!! Just what I come to expect from the author. One consistency she might want to fix is when they reveal Fiona’s relation they say they found out via DNA but later Fiona says several times that they aren’t blood related. Just a pet peeve of mine when I see oops like this. A must read.
This series just keeps getting better and better! I devoured Clay and Fiona’s book. It was so good and it packed a punch in the feels too. It was fast paced, with no soggy middle to be seen. I can’t wait for the next one especially after the teaser epilogue at the end.
