A fun sexy story, with a dash of suspense, about not hiding from yourself and letting love in. This steamy, laugh-out-loud, enemies to lovers romance pits an annoying prankster, turned small town cop, against the woman forced to live with him.
I’m finally back in Waterfall Canyon, after leaving for a decade, when one-night changes everything. I sort of snapped and beat up my stalker with yard debris. That creep didn’t know who he was messing with. Except, I was the one put in the patrol car.
Sometimes the worst mistake of your life calls for desperate measures—like accepting help from one of the cops that arrested you.
Beau Martin is a police officer, a slob, and also a man that’s promised to never settle down. He’s my best friend’s older brother. We had a history—of him tormenting me ten years ago. Now he leaves me flirty notes, wants me to believe he’s always liked me, and thinks we should blow off some steam.
Torn between Beau and an unrequited work crush, pursued by my increasingly creepy stalker, and fighting to save my career from the fallout of my mistake, I stumble into organizing a bachelor auction for charity. Everything depends on the support of our small town—and how much I can sacrifice for my own heart.

I was incredibly excited by the premise of Hotheaded Heart by Anna Alkire. The book's description promised a blend of the enemies-to-lovers and best friend's brother tropes, both of which I typically love. Unfortunately, this book turned out to be a huge disappointment for me.
The story centres on Raven and Beau, who were supposedly enemies when they were younger. However, I feel that describing their relationship as ‘enemies-to-lovers’ is incorrect. Rather than true animosity, their past interactions were more about harmless pranks—a way to express their hidden feelings for each other as teenagers. As a result, the transformation from "enemies" to lovers lacked the tension and development I was hoping for.
Both main characters, Raven and Beau, were immature and frustrating. I struggled to understand their connection and felt there was a lack of chemistry between them. Their flirting and banter came off as awkward rather than engaging. The storyline felt rushed and simultaneously stagnant, failing to progress in a meaningful way.
Beau's reaction to Raven wanting to take things slow was another point of frustration for me. Instead of respecting her hesitance and allowing her the space to process, he pressured her continuously, which was annoying.
The thriller and stalker subplot was intriguing. I feel that revealing the stalker’s identity later in the story would have added more suspense and intrigue.
The writing style contributed to the book's difficulties. The dialogue felt short and choppy, and burdened by irrelevant details. The excessive number of side characters made it hard to keep track of who was who, further taking away from the main plot.
Hotheaded Heart had potential with its promising premise, but it ultimately fell flat for me. The immature characters, lack of chemistry, and choppy writing made it a difficult and unsatisfying read. I really wanted to enjoy this book but ended up super disappointed.

This book was a whirlwind of a time, as everything happened so fast. After about the first twenty pages it felt like someone was fast forward and we just flew through everything: interactions, any event big or small. It felt so fast and rushed, that I did not get a sense of the characters or a real attachment to them. The romance development was just not there for me. Any real significant event that happened was so fast that there was no emotional connection, so I didn't care about their story or what was happening. This book was not for me, it just did not have the development, the pacing or the character dynamic or romance that I was looking for. I did the setting of a small town, wintertime and close community. I received an ebook, via Netgalley. This review is my own honest opinion
This wasn’t it for me. The two main characters were toxic af. Especially the guy. He didn’t have a mature bone in his body. I almost DNF’d but I got 50% through and figured I could finish quickly.
A girl has a stalker and has to move in with her best friend’s brother who has always had a thing for her. She barely has a foot in the door before he starts laying it on thick, in an almost stalkerish way. And then gets mad at her when she doesn’t want to jump in as quickly as he does.
It read like something self published on the interest. The writing wasn’t good. The story was choppy. The dialogue was weird and choppy. They talked in incomplete sentences like texts. It wasn’t easy to ready.
Reading this book was like watching your friend make frustrating choices that make you wish you could shake some sense into them but you still love them and want to see them happy. I love Raven and Beau but sometimes they made me want to pull my hair out! I loved the twists and turns, like a roller-coaster, and I didn't know how it was going to go until the end. While I read this as a free ARC, I would probably read it again!
I liked the stalker storyline and that was pretty well detailed. That alone was a pretty good story and well thought out.
The two main characters are very toxic and walking red flags. I couldn't feel any solid chemistry between them.
I also felt like I was missing some stuff like bits of the book were edited out or things were added in but no clear context given around the added in piece. The spice was a 0.5/5 for me.
I received an advance copy of this book and am leaving this review voluntarily.
3.5 Stars. Thank you for the NetGalley team for allowing me to read and review this arc.
Summary: Raven moves back to her hometown, but her neighbor is a stalker. She gets arrested by the cops, one of them is her bestie's brother whom she has had a crush on forever despite the constant childhood teasing and pranks (obviously). She is forced to move out of her apartment and of course hottie police officer Beau (best friends brother) has an extra room she can stay in. She is crushing on someone at work, but he doesn't do work relationships so naturally she loses her job and he realizes he likes her, right when she starts things up with hottie police officer. She's forced to make a choice, go with her brain or her heart.
Likes: I liked the characters, this was really character driven rather than plot driven. It was cute, quick, and entertaining. I loved the bachelor auction!
Dislikes: None of the characters were well developed. They were all pretty flat, except for Raven. I wish there was a little more exposition maybe? And the whole divorce with pregnant Lauren thing was weird, I think it should've been her to end up winning Mason at the auction, and all in all her plotline just didn't hit for me at all. The writing style was a little choppy and weird as well, like it just didn't flow. I think it could be fixed with a good editor, but I did find myself saying "wait what?" a few times and having to go back to read the paragraph before for clarity. A few plot holes, like Raven's dream to open an Outdoorsy Tour Company for women? Why did that not come to fruition. The prank thing at the end was also lame, but I loved the epilogue. I really just needed more from these characters.
Tropes: Best Friend's Brother, enemies to lovers(ish), stalker, contemporary romance with dark elements, dead parent club, HEA
Spice level: 1/5 (Definitely wish there was more, it would have bumped this to a 4 star for me!)
All in all, if you want a cute quick read that frustrates you, but gives you a HEA, this ones for you!
"Hotheaded Heart" by Anna Alkire is a novel that, despite its interesting premise, fails in many ways. The two main characters are very toxic, displaying clear warning signs that overshadow any potential chemistry. Their interactions lack the spark and realism needed to engage readers, making their relationship more frustrating than fascinating.
A major issue with the book is the disjointed story. It often feels like key parts were either removed or added without proper context, leaving readers confused and disconnected. This lack of coherence makes the story feel clunky, like watching a poorly adapted play with scenes that lack the depth and flow needed for a compelling novel.
The story also fails to create suspense or intrigue. The protagonist's carefree attitude, despite the chaos around her, removes any tension that might have kept readers interested. Repeated scenes, like the frequent parties at Beau's house, become boring and add little to character development or plot progression.
Character growth is almost non-existent. Both main characters remain immature throughout, showing no significant personal development. This is disappointing, as it gives readers little to root for or connect with emotionally.
On the plus side, the straightforwardness of the book makes it a quick read. However, this simplicity also strips the story of the layers and complexity that could have made it more engaging.
The synopsis promised a journey of self-discovery and true love amidst chaos, but the novel fails to deliver. The potential for a compelling narrative is there, but it remains largely untapped. I had high hopes for Alkire's growth as a writer, but this book did not meet those expectations.
Additionally, despite being advertised as a spicy read, "Hotheaded Heart" falls flat in this area too. On a scale of 1 to 10 for spiciness, it barely registers a 1. The lack of genuine passion and intensity in the romantic scenes is another letdown.
In conclusion, "Hotheaded Heart" was a disappointing read. While it might serve as a brief escape for those looking to momentarily avoid real life, it lacks the depth, intrigue, and character development that make for a truly captivating story.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Water's Edge Publishing LLC for sending me the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
It started off strong and I thought it was going to get so good! Especially when she beat up her stalker for messing with her cat. But then the rest of the story just fell flat and was all over the place.
Beau, the MMC, was annoying, pushy and immature. The FMC, Raven, was not that interesting to me. She went from crushing on a guy at work and never told him but then later he wanted to date her, to sleeping with Beau, to going on a date with a rich guy. (It was just all over the place!) She went from having zero prospects to having all these men falling all over her including a stalker. Beau, of course, was persistent and yet every time they had a serious conversation that basically didn't go his way he would get mad, turn his back to her and leave pouting.
I don't know. The story was all over the place and the characters were not likeable to me which made it an even tougher read to get through.

I'm usually a fan of the brother's best friend trope, however, this one was a bit disappointing. The two main characters lacked chemistry and were just straight toxic. Both characters were grown adults, but they sure didn't act like it at all. Beau was very disappointing and especially immature. There was "insta-lust" on his part when Raven moved into his apartment due to an issue she was having, and this just came across so poorly. He wanted to jump right into a physical relationship, while Raven was going through a lot, including a crazy stalker, getting arrested for fighting her stalker, losing her job, and essentially being kicked out of her apartment/not being able to stay there due to her stalker being her neighbor. However, instead of showing more concern for this, or maybe waiting, he is continuously pushing her to become physical with him.
I received an eARC of this book from BookSirens, this is my voluntary review.
This may be closer to 3.5, but it was a good read. It had a good plot. I enjoyed the focus to not be about just the romance. These were interesting characters that were forced to be under one roof. Their personalities balanced them out. And they were both going through their own problems. The book was not slow paced at all. She had this positive spirit as she went through her struggles. I really enjoyed seeing her strength blossom throughout the book. Now I like books where the MMC falls first.. but this one was just 😬 Hear me out, he expreses his feelings to her first. Cute, love it! She is hesitant because they were enemies growing up. And then when things don't go his way.. he gets upset and storms off. He had his moments where he would fix his wrongs but overall not my favorite character
🌶🌶/5

Raven has had a string of bad luck that ends up with her living at her best friend's brother's house with no job and an arrest record. As she deals with her feelings for a former co-worker, the owner of her house she is also trying to get another job and helping her friend with a baby.
I keep a pretty low barometer of books when I am reading. If I am entertained, I'm happy with the book. While the plot moved really quick and the character development was fairly low, that made Hotheaded Heart a great book to read while on vacation. I moved through the book fairly quickly and enjoyed it. It gave me Emily Henry vibes which I was not mad about. I can't wait for the rest of the series because there are definitely some relationships in River Gorge that I would like to know more about.
I received an advanced copy of this book and read it voluntarily.
Forget about stalkers and crazy dates and losing your job, what else would a girl like Raven have to deal with than completely helping a best friend with a newborn and falling for her best friend’s brother, guessing her brother falls for her best friend. Great story and glad the cat and dog got along.
overall this book was a fast paced read that i enjoyed. it didn’t get a higher rating as i found it rushed a lot and all of the characters had some major issues. for starters a lot happened in this book within 300 pages. we had a stalker, a baby born, an arrest, a stabbing, a fundraiser, quite a few dates, some family drama and red flags from all the characters and to top it all off an engagement at the end of the story with the two main characters only being together for 4 months. the mmc showed several signs of anger issues or just lack of communication and the mfc showed lots of indecision when it came to which man she wanted to be with. overall i felt i slight lack of connection with the characters but the story itself was captivating enough to keep me reading despite how annoyed i got at the characters at some points in the book. the slight bit of spice in the book was good. i would say that the next book in this particular series may focus on the best friend and brother of the mfc which i am looking forward to reading. overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75 stars spice: 🌶️

Cutesy romance, but its not all just fluff and smut. There is a whole case of creepy stalking, including animal abuse, abuse, and probably other stuff im forgetting. Ofcourse the mmc protects the fmc from all of this, and fall in love in the mean time which is a really good concept. I did not really like the mmc, but thats personal preference. Book was really enjoyable though!

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. I was drawn in by the love triangle and best friend’s brother tropes, although the instant love aspect didn’t resonate with me. The storyline evoked memories of the soap operas I watched as a child. At the end of each chapter, I eagerly anticipated what would happen next.
The author’s writing style was both accessible and fast-paced. The suspenseful plot involving Raven’s stalker added an intriguing twist that I thoroughly enjoyed. Additionally, the intimate scenes were passionate and sensuous. I would rate it 🌶️🌶️.
I adored the characters, particularly Raven and Lauren’s friendship. It reminded me of my own high school friendships—the goofiness, unwavering support, and shared experiences. That kind of closeness with a friend is truly precious. And then there’s Beau—I appreciated his openness with Raven and enjoyed their banter, even if it surprised me a little.
I’m giving this book a 4.5-star rating because, while I enjoyed it, there were moments of predictability and the instant love trope. I wish there had been more development of the character’s love.

Cute romance with a little suspense and a pinch of spice!
Six months after moving back to River Gorge, Raven Brown has work hard to get a job as the public relations specialist at the local hospital. Raven has been getting closer to her work crush Travis Dashiell and is hoping that she’ll soon win him over. Being back in her hometown, Raven has friends who she regularly meets up with. Her life is generally looking good, apart from being stuck in a tiny apartment with a creepy neighbour who’s started to stalk her. As the neighbour’s behaviour begins to escalate, Raven acts impulsively and ends up being arrested.
One of the officers on the scene is Beau Martin, the older brother of Raven’s best friend Lauren and her “childhood nemesis”. Whilst Raven appreciates Beau’s looks and feels attracted to him, she still recalls the times he pranked and teased her as a teenager. On top of that, Beau doesn’t seem to have grown up in the decade since they last met and is committed to his bachelor lifestyle. Beau is the total opposite of quiet, charming family man Travis and now Raven is questioning what she wants for her future. Deep inside Raven feels like a pirate queen who needs adventure and freedom but she also craves the stability that was missing from her childhood.
Hotheaded heart is written from Raven’s point of view so the reader gets to understand her motivations, although at times her behaviour was frustrating to me. I felt that Raven and Beau’s characters could’ve been better developed, although I liked their relationship when Beau was in kind and supportive mode. At times, Beau’s behaviour was concerning though since he seemed to be pressuring Raven into a physical relationship when she’s trying to deal with being stalked. The support that Raven and Lauren show each other was great. I’d like to read more in the future about Lauren, Mason (Raven’s brother) and also Travis. Hopefully future books in the Waterfall Canyon series will feature these characters. Overall, I enjoyed Hotheaded Heart and am looking forward to reading more from Anna Alkire.

Let me first start off by saying, this could have been such a well done plot line! However, it fell flat for me and I’m somewhat disappointed.
Raven moved back home and finds herself in a precarious situation with a stalker. Not only did she use self defense to protect herself, she got arrested for it? She then proceeds to lose her job and gets advised to contribute back to the community through community service to prove she’s an upstanding citizen. All while this is going on, she moves into Beaus house.
Beau and Raven grew up together, played pranks on each other constantly, and Raven was in love with Beau throughout that entire time up until present day. This story follows Beau being a cringey flirt and Raven making decisions while feeling guilty the entire time about the decisions she was making.
These characters frustrated me. A lot. I think Beau’s lack of “reading the room” bothered me most. I’m sorry, but do we really think commenting on seeing a girl in their panties is appropriate after a stalker left flowers inside HIS house?! Feels like a cop would be more concerned.
The text message convos were *giving* teenage heart obsession vibes between the two of them. Also, wasn’t Beau technically dating Harper at the start? Did I miss somewhere that they broke up or did that just never happen? I also need to know why Raven didn’t go start looking for another job the minute she got left go for her arrest. Personally, I would be updating my resume IMMEDIATELY!! I’m honestly shocked she didn’t attempt to find another job sooner than she did. (Especially with needing to pay for a lawyer.)
Dominic though? I would love to see him as a MMC. For some reason, his character really fascinated me and I think there’s something there, for SURE!!
This ended up being a HEA which I am a sucker for. This was the part of the book where I saw the most chemistry between Beau and Raven (thank goodness).
Real rating: 2.5/5 ⭐️’s (rounding up on GR thanks to the HEA) Spice rating: 0/5 🌶️’s (would have looooooved to see some in this book)
Hotheaded Hearts is loaded with hotheaded characters.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️/5 Spice: 🌶/5
Enemies to lovers Best friends brother / sister's best friend Forced proximity Roommates Police officer MMC Event coordinator FMC Single POV HEA
Raven is being stalked by her pervy neighbor, but after a night involving a cat and a taser gun Raven is arrested! Uncomfortable with going back home she rents a room from her best friend's brother, and police officer, Beau.
Beau is a dedicated officer of the law who enjoys playing in a band, fishing and flirting with the girl he's always had a crush on… Raven.
Now Beau and Raven's lives are filled with furry animals, spicy nights, and a stalker on the hunt.
This was my first novel by Anna Alkire. She obviously has a great mind for interesting plot ideas and I had high hopes based on this novels plot and tropes. I love a good roomies to lovers with a side of intrigue!
Unfortunately this story fell short of those expectations.
Hotheaded Hearts was definitely an appropriate title for these MCs. Both MCs have strong tempers, but instead of it coming off as" hot for each other" possessive, it reads as toxic immature tantrums that I couldn't get past. I just couldn't ship these two as I didn't feel the chemistry between them
I found the writing style missed a lot of opportunity for detail or details were thrown in without context leading to confusion.
While speaking, a character is often talking about something they can see, but the visual is not being described to the reader like another characters action or facial expression. I found 'setting the scene' was a frequently missed opportunity that felt frustratingly distracting.
For being a spicy book I felt the spice often felt rushed and lacked the heat that two hotheaded characters could pull off. Another area that I would have loved to see more detail.
Anna Alkire has a great imagination for plots, I think with some more mature MCs and making time for those missing details her next book could come out stronger.

Hotheaded Heart by Anna Alkire Waterfall Canyon Book 1 Rating: 4/5 Release Date: 25 June 2024
At first, this book unfolded slowly for me. However, as I delved deeper into Raven's backstory and understood the immense pressure she faced, I found myself connecting more profoundly with her choices and actions. Despite Beau's role as a protective older brother figure, there was an undeniable undercurrent of attraction and sexual tension between them, which added a compelling complexity to their relationship. Their struggles with communication posed challenges, yet Beau's gestures and decisions spoke volumes about his emotions.
As I progressed through the story, the narrative gained momentum with heightened action sequences that drew me deeper into the characters' lives. This, in turn, fuelled a growing emotional investment in their journey toward a satisfying resolution. The small-town ambiance and the intricacies of their friendships further enriched the plot, setting the stage for future developments that I eagerly await.
In summary, while my overall experience of the book was positive, I found myself particularly drawn to the exploration of love triangles and the dynamics of best friend's brother relationships. However, the rapid progression of some romantic elements didn't entirely resonate with me.
Thank you so much to NetGalley, Water’s Edge Publishing LLC, and the author, Anna Alkire, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review.
Raven Brown is being stalked by her neighbor in her apartment complex. In defending herself she gets arrested by her best friend’s Brother, Beau Martin. She also gets fired and loses her apartment. Beau offers to let Raven move into one of his spare bedroom and she suddenly living with the cop who arrested her. Who is also the boy who she basically grew up pranking . Throw in the fact she totally head over heels for a guy she worked with, Travis Dashiell while Beau wants her. And Raven got a mess on her hands.
I’m so torn with book because there are pieces I really liked. However I feel like so much is happening nothing really gets the full attention it deserves. I feel like the stalker pops up from time to time be between those times it’s forgotten until he strikes again. Raven has Beau building her a freaking cat tree but has Travis in the back of her mind. But then suddenly she hasn’t thought about Travis in forever. Then Travis who never seemed the least bit interested in Raven suddenly wanted a date. Plus there was another guy Raven goes on a date with that comes back later. Also a bachelor auction, two other roommates, Beau and Lauren’s parents, Raven’s relationship with her deceased mother. All this and we still have to fit in Beau and Raven having a romance. I think if there were less moving pieces and the one we did have got more attention, this book would be 5 stars EASY. This is just the first book in the Waterfall Canyon series so I will totally be checking out the next ones as well.
Raven finally thinks her life has reached its peak with a great job working for the hospital as the PR Manager and she is busy working herself up into a relationship with Travis who is a great catch with money as well. If only life though worked like that and was all sunshine and roses as Raven never had life easy, especially as a foster kid. She has a stalker called Rob aka her crazy next-door neighbour who is determined to have her no matter what. She has tried calling the police but nothing happens and she is given the run-around. That is until one night Rob pushes her too far and she decides to taser him. This warrants a visit from the police and now Raven is seen as the bad girl as she ends up being evicted, arrested and then losing her job, all because of her stalker. This leads Raven to move into her friend Lauren's brother's house - Beau. He is now a cop himself and of course, the sparks are going to fly between Beau and Raven, but is she prepared to enter into a relationship with him as she doesn't want to jeopardize their friendship if they break up, especially since Beau's family is like her own. What happens though when Raven's new job as a volunteer at a charity ends up organising a bachelor auction and she gets closer to her dream guy Travis? Is Travis all he is cracked up to be and is he Raven's true love or will she soon realize before it's too late - that her hotheaded heart belongs to Beau? Find out in this romantic comedy/ suspense with the stalker angle - Hotheaded Heart by Anna Alkire. I also am looking forward to future books as sparks fly between Beau’s sister Lauren and Raven’s half-brother Mason.
3⭐ 1🌶️ Tropes: best friend’s brother, forced proximity, friends to lovers, love triangle
Because she defended herself against her stalker/attacker, Raven is arrested, loses her job and is forced out of her apartment. Her best friends brother, Beau invites her to stay with him while she looks for a job and housing. However to her surprise, Beau has always been interested in Raven and starts trying to start a relationship with her.
I didn’t hate this book, but nothing about it really stood out to me. The opening chapter was actually pretty funny to me, and I’m not sure that’s what the author was going for? It was kind of a clusterfuck- there was a lot of “bad” stuff happening to the FMC but the writing style made it seem almost subdued. And that subdued sort of vibe carried throughout the whole book for me, as if it were flipped from what’s normal. It was as if things that should’ve been a big deal (the stalker’s increasing violence, for example) were underwhelming, and parts that weren’t that big of a deal/routine to a romance (like her relationship with Beau) were overwhelming.
As for the characters, Beau acts really childish and immature, and I had a hard time believing their connection. The story is billed as enemies to lovers but it’s more like friends to lovers. I don’t think him pranking her as a teenager (because he was actually interested in her and everyone knew it) counts as “enemies”. Raven just seemed a little flat. I did like the stalker storyline, but even that felt off.
Anna Alkire's Hotheaded Heart was the perfect kick off to my summer reading season. Alkire's great storytelling and strong character development left me a happy camper.
Raven is a very put together PR manager at a local hospital until a fatal night where she fights back against her creepy neighbor stalker. Sounds pretty dark right? Well, she battles this neighbor using a pink taser as her tries to assault her cat. The problem is, when the police arrive, she's the one who gets arrested.
As her professional world spirals because of the arrest, Beau, an old family friend reaches out with a new place to live, and some support as she tried to get back on track in her career. Full disclosure, Beau is good looking and a cop. He's got the right tools to not only help catch Raven's stalker, but he also happens to be single and attracted to Raven. Raven's assertive nature and her ability to go after what she wants makes her a strong character. Beau's willingness to be strong enough for Raven really stands out.
I loved the setting for this book. Growing up in the northwest, I can picture this fictional town close to some of the beautiful waterfalls or turnouts along the Columbia. Waterfall Canyon is a place I'd like to spend more time reading about!
A thoroughly enjoyable read. I'll be back for more Alkire books!

Overall, this was a cute, quick read, and I enjoyed reading it! Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC. I’m giving it a 2.5 because, while I enjoyed it, it wasn’t the best I’d ever read. The writing was good, and it was easy and quick to read, but I feel like there could have been more of a connection built to the characters. I would have liked to see more of their personalities and relationships built through the story. It was quite a one-dimensional story. I would have loved more depth to Raven and Beau and their past, as well as their current feelings. It just felt a bit lacklustre in that sense. The best relationship for me was the friendship between Raven and Lauren rather than Raven with Beau. Their friendship and support of each other were absolutely amazing, and I wouldn’t change that part at all. I don’t feel like there was much, if any, character growth within the story. I could see the attempt at it, with Raven following her dreams and accepting her own faults and Beau committing to their relationship. But I feel like both Raven and Beau just fell into their relationship and stayed there. Neither really grew or changed. This story had a lot of potential, but it just fell short for me. It was a cute read and a quick escape, though💖💖
Tropes: Best-friends brother Forced Proximity Suspense/Intrigue elements
Thank you again to Water’s Edge, Anna and Netgalley for the chance to read and review the ARC of this book.
Raven is working for a hospital in their PR department and the book opens with her celebrating a gala she organized and she's waiting for the hospital hottie, Travis to arrive. Maybe today will be the day he asks her out? While looking for him, she spots Rob across the street. Rob the stalker. Her neighbor that is making her life a living nightmare.
Rob is escalating his behavior and when he tries to take Cheeto her cat hostage, she fights back. Stun gun, garbage, and a flurry of rage, Rob got what he deserved.

Beau and Raven are becoming reacquainted with each other as adults and it's stirring up old feelings fast for both of them. Rob is escalating his stalking and even showing up at Beau's house now. Raven has to find a way to support herself financially after an arrest is on her record and find a way to stay safe from Rob.
This was not only a great romance book, but also had a big portion of it being thriller. I really enjoyed the excitement of the book and of course who doesn't love a book with cute pets!?
This is book 1 in a series and you meet friends and family in a small town near Portland. Raven is trying to get her life together, she just got a job she loves at a hospital in PR and she is actively pursuing a doctor that works there. She has only one real problem, she has a pretty persistent stalker. When her stalker takes things up a notch and threatens her cat she is forced to retaliate, and unexpectedly get arrested. This arrest and stalker situation leads to a huge upheaval in her life, she loses her job, she is forced to move in with her best friend’s brother and mortal enemy, and it completely derails her quest to get her doctor crush to go out with her.
I liked this story, but I really wish it had been told in a Duel POV. There are a lot of great characters and a lot to unpack. There is a bit of slow burn and at the heart is a book about a woman who is trying to find her way in the world while dealing with some very big issues. It’s a good story, worth the read, it’s very much a slow burn with a bit of angst. Ultimately it shows how hard it is to have a relationship when communicating is hard for both parties. It has a satisfying HEA despite growing frustration with how her stalker situation is handled by nearly everyone involved. Good read but I am really excited to see how other books tackle additional characters we meet in book 1.
Mallory and Beau have been antagonistic toward each other forever, while suppressing their attraction to each other. When a stalker escalates his menacing of Mallory promoting her to tase him, she ends up being arrested and losing her job. Police officer Beau insists Mallory move in with him while she awaits her trial and while the stalker is still at large.
Quickly the tension between Mallory and Beau ramps up and they act on their fancying of each other in a physical way. Beau insists he’s not ready for a commitment, but Mallory’s feelings for Beau grow.
When Mallory is tasked with collaborating on a fundraiser centered around a bachelor auction, she cajoles Beau into offering himself up. Jealousy and bad timing result in hurt feelings and prompts Mallory to move out.
How will they resolve all their disagreements and differences? Will they ever get their happy ever after?
I enjoyed reading this novella. It had steamy moments and the main characters were multi dimensional.
I was furnished an advance reader copy from the author and booksirens, and I’m sharing my honest review.
Raven has a problem: she has no home and no job. She ends up staying with her best friend's brother Beau. There is interest between them, but Raven wants permanence, a family, a home - Beau is not so much. Raven has had her former colleague Travis in her sights for a long time, and now she's not quite sure what direction to go in. Also, he has a stalker after him.
The plot of this book sounded interesting. Unfortunately, however, the book did not quite meet my expectations. I didn't really like the characters in the book particularly and I didn't really feel the chemistry between them. Also, they were quite immature.
Unfortunately, I had to struggle a bit with this book to finish it. I felt that the plot dragged a bit. However, that doesn't mean that the book can't be a really pleasant read for some.
WHAT TO EXPECT: * Found family * Forced proximity * Hea * Love Triangle * One night stand turned more * Open doors * Opposites attract * Point of view: female MC 1st person * Small town
