Oh my god I wanted to shake each of the six MCs multiple times throughout this book, Skye especially!
Skye has morphed into everything I usually dislike about FMC's in this type of story, and it is beyond annoying yet I still want to keep reading because I need to know what happens now. I'm overly invested!
Honestly I was shouting at these guys because they were literally being spoon-fed exactly what they needed to do, but they were wilfully misinterpreting it or ignoring it because they thought they knew better. The communication, or lack thereof, was so annoying - if they'd all just said what they knew when they knew it I could have had a much less stressful reading experience!
I am very intrigued to see what's going to happen though. I hate Dmitri sooooo much, and now that the five Magila all know what they actually are, I'm hoping we get some real progress in the next book.

Loved this second book in the series.
Dmitri is pushing everyone to their limits with his new rules at the academy. Skye has been separated from his mates, and his essence is in peril. Meanwhile mother nature's cryptic clues aren't helping much as Skye tries to understand his new role and responsibilities. This had great revelations, and I loved seeing more of their dynamics as mates, especially as they struggle apart from each other.
It's a fast paced dark paranormal romance, with intrigue, unique powers, and a range of entertaining creatures.

This second installment in the Academy of Rejects series had me hooked from page one. The paranormal romance only gets darker, deeper, and more addictive,and I loved every second of it. N. Slater wastes no time, picking up right where book one left off, so yes, this is absolutely a series you need to read in order… and trust me, you’ll want to.
Diving back into Skye and his band of dangerous, broken rejects felt like slipping into a shadowy world I didn’t want to leave. The tension is thick, the emotions hit hard, and the dark elements are woven in perfectly. I was constantly on edge, devouring each chapter, completely invested in how everything continues to unfold.
The storytelling is tight, immersive, and unapologetically bold. Every twist kept my attention, every revelation pulled me in deeper, and by the end? I was feral for more. And of course—the queen of cliffhangers strikes again. N. Slater knows exactly how to leave you desperate for the next book, and I’m not even mad about it.
This book met,and exceeded,my expectations. N. Slater continues to break boundaries with her craft, her art, and her storytelling, and I am absolutely here for it. No regrets, no notes—just give me book three now.

Consumed by Shadows is the second book in the Academy of Rejects series. This series does need to be read in order by starting with Overwhelmed by Magic.
I had been eagerly anticipating the book since finishing the first book and this book absolutely exceeded my expectations. I loved getting back to this world and these characters, this was such a phenomenal addition to this series and I need the next book as soon as possible. I did not want this book to end.

In this book we see dimitri trying to keep Skye and his mates apart and the unfolding chaos.
I was absolutely absorbed in the story unfolding and characters that before I knew it I had ate up the whole book and it was finished leaving me shocked I was at the end.

Book two continues on from the events of book one, with Skye and his mates having to navigate some big changes within the academy.
I'll admit, it took me a minute to remember who everyone was from book one, but once I did, I was drawn right into the drama.
There were some twists along with the drama, and that epilogue? Intriguing! I'm looking to forward to seeing how it all plays out in book 3!

Omg!! So so so so amazing!! So in love with Skye!!! I cannot not wait for the next book in this series. And Dmitri is just….. OH MY!!! All of Skye’s mates are just sooo WOW!!! That’s the best I can describe it. Definitely recommend this series.

After reading the first book, I was anxiously awaiting the next installment and it did not disappoint!
The more I read about Skye, the more I love him! His strength, perseverance, and his sweetness.
I absolutely loved the description of Mother Nature. It just felt perfect when I was reading it.
Things get bad for our guys in this book. Dimitri made their academy into a little prison of sorts. But even during all that madness, Mother Nature was still able to pull them and give tiny bits of information. It’s been really awesome to find out what the guys really are. I’m really looking forward to continuing this series!

Dmitri has got to gooo! The power has truly gone to his head at this point. He’s trying to tighten the reigns on all of the essence & magila but it’s not gonna work. Skye is trying his hardest to come to a solution & with his mates at his side they will definitely be able to knock Dmitri down. I enjoy seeing the men use their essence. It’s intriguing to see how they all are different beings & can use their essence to help each other. I honestly think Jade may be my favorite just because I love a good incubus 🙂↔️ I did enjoy book 2 & can’t wait to see Skye & all his mates come together and put some good in Grimrose!

I was honestly back and forth on this one, did I love it? Did I hate it? Well i ended up loving it. There were some very small parts that read weird to ME and I couldn’t wrap my brain around what was trying to be said, it didn’t flow correctly or one word made the whole sentence seem off but in the end (like always) the author pulled everything together, sucked you back into the story and made you wish it was over (for now!) i honestly can’t wait for book 3, to see where Skye and his mates story leads. I hope Dimitri gets what’s coming to him and i hope it’s delivered by Skye, Ambrose, Rumi, Stellan, and Jade. I also kind of hope Liz and Tamara get a little revenge too lol. Def make sure you read book one first as this is a continuation, the story just keeps getting better!!

This continuation is wonderfull, I loved every word of it!
This is a great dark fantasy book with extra spice, romance and snark. This one really crossed into the dark side of the genre, but the love is a bright light that sustains the hope.
Skye's journey is exciting to follow, as he and his guys learn more about the corruption of their world and each other. The ploycule is strong, and very believable, in the way that feelings are slowly developing, even though the bonds were quickly formed.

Ah! I don’t want it to be over until the next book! That is the first thought that went through my mind. This book was an excellent follow up to the first book, it kept me on the edge of my seat, hooked to every word, and craving more, more, MORE! Please and thank you. Skye and his mates are really being put through their paces in this book. Dmitri has really cracked down and taken full control of the academy in the attempt to keep Skye and his mates apart, to keep his power and control. Skye is quickly trying to learn his role and gather as much knowledge as he can to help his mates and the other Magila. We get to see all five of the mates really come into their own in this book and oh my word! I loved seeing each of them grow and change and embrace who and what they are! And learning what each of them is? I legit wanted to release a squeal. Such a wonderfully written story. The characters (Skye and his mates) are so endearing and amazing, while the villains and the side characters create a lot of drama and angst. I really can’t wait for the next one! I’m gonna sit over here and impatiently wait. This series is just so much fun, it’s creative and entertaining, spicy at times (though not too much yet), there’s some darkness and intrigue and just such a fun and creative world. I don’t want to leave this world and I can’t wait to visit again.

Book 2 picks up seamlessly from book 1 in my opinion. There is angst, drama and love. This is such a wonderful series and I am already counting down until book 3 comes out!! I need more of all these men. N. Slater continues to write wonderful books :)

Why I read it: PNR Fantasy. Need I say more? Book 2 starts ramping up the conflict, and I was here for the plot. The spice does taper off but the storyline goes hard so I wasn't mad.
What I loved:

This book felt like it was only 10 pages long (exaggerated, of course) because it went by so fast. It's actually 7 chapters shorter than book 1 but only about 30-ish pages shorter according to the amazon page count.
So much happened yet it felt like like nothing much happened because our MMCs are still stuck in Grimstone Academy but this time, under strict rule and control from Dimitri and his minions. We finally learn who and what the rest of the harem is near the end, but we also find out Dimitri's beginning background, which confuses all our MMCs.
There are more questions and obstacles now, and all the angst is in the plot, thankfully, and not the relationship. Can't wait to get to the next book!

The gang is back, however this volume wasn't as good as the first - it seemed more of a place holder with no real progress to the story until the very end. I think the main trigger for me in this volume was the abuse of authority which made it hard to get through. In summary, Skye and the guys are just trying to survive as Dmitri tightens the wards around the school. This causes the kids magic to go out of control, harming many of the students. A new piece of the puzzle is added and the guys have a renewed determination to stop what's happening. Spice: 0.25

There is so much going on with poor Skye and his mates being seperated, Dimtri adding so many rules and consequences to the Academy to keep a firm grip on control. Things are going falling apart.

Consumed by Shadows Academy of Rejects by n Slater. Skye and his men continue their journey in this book. They will continue to get to know each mate as well as the journey that they must take to uncover the secrets and and peril that lies ahead of them this book really had me invested. this is part 2 of the series so you need to start with book one each book leaves off in an amazing Cliffhanger and this book was no different I highly recommend this book

This was an excellent book about Skye, Harlow, Stellan, Jade, Ambrose & Rumi! Tropes: Academy, Fantasy (Human, Wraith, Fire Elemental, Incubus, Vampire & Mage (maybe that's what they are 😱), Slow Burn, lots of drama & a cliffhanger!

Love this Series
There is something about this series that I absolutely love. It is so different from the other books I’ve read of N. Slater’s. Just wish I didn’t have to wait so long for the next book…😢❤️

I want more
I loved the reveal about Stellan, but I want more. I feel like these books are too short for how many love interests there are. But each guy is unique. I just wish we got to know them better.

Madness
This book. This book made me want to scream and I say that in the most loving way possible. I'm one of those readers that gets very empathetic with the characters. So when they're put in a high pressure situation that has that feeling of Doom? Or how do you get out of this? It makes me feel it too. And man the big bad at least as far as we can tell just they need to go. Just the way that they don't care about anybody else and they're willing to step over. Even people that are close to them to achieve their ambitions puts them on my naughty list. The other characters I absolutely love so much and I am so excited for this next book that's coming out and hopefully seeing where the conclusion of the story goes. And very interested to learn more about the one golden character. So we shall see.
