The land is dying.
Magic is withering.
Death lies within the void.

Lithia has been a general for a century, but no battle could prepare her for the chaos that has befallen her world, nor has it given her time to adjust to being High Queen of Suviel. A day after becoming queen, reports flood in that a curse has seized the heart of Suviel leaving a void of magic slowly making its way across the land. As the land and the fae upon it watch their magic begin to wither, Lithia’s magic is the only hope to bring life back to the heart of Suviel.

Unfortunately, they have to be able to find the heart to save it.

Calcas is angry. His friends are dead, and the one who killed them is sitting on a throne. He’s spent a decade running from his anger, fighting, hiding, and clawing his way out of his grief. Now here he is, helping a queen he loathes, fight for a land he wants no part of, to save his family.

They will have to navigate treacherous alliances and dangerous terrain to find the heart of Suviel but, as they draw closer, they realize that the cost may be higher than they ever imagined. Sacrifice everything or succumb to the darkness that threatens to consume them all.

Full review to come, but early thoughts:

This book drops you RIGHT into conflict and an emotional moment and it was able to both snag my attention and get me to have emotional attachment to these characters withing MINUTES. I've never had a book do that before and this only continued that trend. I was fascinated by the two major main characters and loved the tension between them. I love when the reader knows something secret and you're just screaming at the characters to tell one another. This has interesting world-building, LGBTQIA+ rep, and really fascinating characters. I had such a good time and this managed to do so much in such a short amount of time. Impressive!

Thanks to @author.poppy @rrbooktours for the opportunity!

This is a high-stakes fantasy that grabbed hold of me from the first page as it drops you straight into conflict and a motion of raw emotional turmoil. This is able to build an immediate connection to its characters and their struggles—a rare feat that makes this book stand out.

The tension between Lithia and Calcas is fascinating, with layers of mistrust, buried FEELINGS, and secrets that will have you shouting at the pages for them to just talk to each other! But in a super fun kind of way. I was so invested in every sharp word and charged glance.

The world-building is fascinating, with its decaying magic system and the looming darkness of the void creating a palpable sense of urgency. Love the LGBTQIA+ representation. Despite its shorter length, this book manages to pack in rich character development, intricate plot twists, and emotional depth, all while keeping a brisk, engaging pace. Super well balanced.

If you’re looking for a fast-paced fantasy with compelling characters, queer representation, and a story that balances thrilling action with emotional stakes, A Crown Forged in Blood delivers in spades. This is an impressive, impactful read that sets the bar high for the genre.

From the very first chapter, I was captivated by the incredibly vivid world building. The main characters are well developed and compelling- fallible, angry, and broken. Their regret, devastation, and journey towards redemption is portrayed so well.

With long standing friendships broken, Lia and Cal are tortured by their individual and shared losses yet must form a tenuous alliance to save the kingdom. Will the secrets uncovered bring them together or break them beyond repair?

This story features such nuanced romantic relationships and a phenomenal found family.
I loved seeing the slow rebuilding of trust, the convivial banter, and cannot wait to see how things continue to evolve in the next book.

A Crown Forged in Blood is a fast-paced and thrilling high stakes fantasy with a healthy dose of heartbreak, steam, and an ending that will leave you breathless!

Super honored to be an ARC reader for this amazing new book.

Let me start by saying the main reason why I rated this 4/5 stars was pacing. I felt like a lot of the plot was a bit rushed to me. Some of the major plot points, one huge one specifically (no spoilers), were just means to an end rather than holding the full weight within the plot that they should have.

With that all being said, the author created such a unique, beautiful new world that you can’t help getting sucked into. The mfc is a relatable badass, which is my favorite. The mmc is brooding and for good reason. The side characters are loveable. The best part of the entire book for me, though, were the relationship dynamics. The interactions between mfc and mmc were especially unlike anything I have read before.

I will definitely be reading book 2!!

Thanks to Poppy L. Roberts for the ARC and the opportunity to check this story out!

I really enjoyed my time reading this. It was a very quick and easy read. The characters were all great. Really enjoyed the magical elements of this. Especially when it comes to how the Queen inherits her role as the new High Queen.

The setting was great. Loved the lore we got in this with the different Fae and creatures as well. It was pretty descriptive imagery, and that always makes for a great read. There is some spice, but it's definitely done well for my tastes and not overtly placed in there just cause.

And that cliffhanger! It definitely makes me super interested as to what's coming next!

I have read the ARC and this review is being left voluntarily.

Summary: Newly crowned Queen Lithia has no time to adjust to her new role in her kingdom. The land's magic is dying and her people are suffering the consequences. She must set out on a journey with her closest friends, uncovering forgotten knowledge, digging up the past, and trying to uncover the mystery of the void. Lithia must navigate through grief, heartache, love, and uncovered secrets from the past.

Review: I found this to be a very quick and entertaining read. I unfortunately took longer for my own personal reasons. However, for me the first 3 chapters felt dragged out for me and I was actually confused by the world building. I think if I had audio it may have made a lot more sense to me from the rip. This story line has so much potential to grow in the next book/books. I love that there's not too much predictability so you're not exactly sure what to expect throughout the journey. I wish this book explained the history just a tiny bit more and was about 100 pages longer as certain points felt glazed over. HOWEVER, I definitely recommend this story to all Romantasy readers. Because it IS overall very good and locked me in the moment I found out the big thing about Calcas. Unfortunately/fortunately it ends on a major cliffhanger! I can't wait for the next book.

I had too many questions that I hope are answered in the next book. And the ending left me gasping so I hope book 2 is relatively soon.

Also slight spoiler* I wish Narcos had a different outcome. It felt very rushed what happened to him but I’ll give points for it being super unexpected.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

As only my second ARC book read, I never know if I am going to get something I love or something I force myself to finish even though it isn't my style. But with Poppy’s book one of The Forged Queendom series, I am SO HAPPY I signed up for this one! This book grabbed me immediately and held on through the very last page.

The main characters, Lithia and Calcas, tug at your heart for different reasons as they internally struggle with their past. You just immediately feel for both of them like they are your own friends. Not only do you feel for the main characters, Poppy does justice to the supporting characters as well, to the point I would love it if she wrote spin-off prequel novellas dedicated to their journeys.

If you love a fantasy novel that builds incredibly detailed worlds, has you rooting for the characters, and sets you up for a multi-book quest to save a realm, you have to read this one. Like right now, cause it was released December 10!

Synopsis: Queen Lithia faces an ancient curse that threatens to drain the magic from her kingdom, Suviel. Calcas, a bitter warrior, is forced to aid her, driven by a personal vendetta. Together, they must embark on a perilous quest to find the heart of Suviel, but the true cost of salvation may be far greater than they ever anticipated.

I was so honored to be selected by Poppy L Roberts to read an ARC of her new book!

I thought that the world and magic system created in this book were interesting and unique. There is a quest, which i almost always enjoy, and that was true for this book as well! I thought that the pacing throughout was just right, with maybe just a few points that were a bit hurried. The main reason for only giving 4/5 stars was that i just did not feel super connected with the characters. Overall, however, I would definitely recommend giving this book a try!

Holy conundrum!!!!!! This beautifully passionate and very action packed story had me feeling like I had whiplash but in the best way!!! From start to finish there are little details that become big and answers to some questions which lead to more questions seeking answers. This book is full of emotions, vivacious characters and a bond that no one would even anticipate. The spice sprinkled throughout added to the storyline and although some tastes would want more I say for this storyline, it was all perfectly placed for where it was needed. I am now going to go into a book hangover to calm my thoughts as I now have more questions than answers myself and I need to know what comes of Lithia and Calcus. 🔥🔥✨️📚✨️

I was graced to be an ARC reader for this wonderful book and now I need more of it.

A Crown Forged in Blood

A fast-paced and exciting fantasy that pulled me in. This was a dark and spicy fantasy filled with morally grey characters and a dangerous quest.

I enjoyed the story even if it took me a little bit to really get into in. It really picked up in the end and then with the ending… ahhh… I need more!!

Lithia was a strong FMC that was a fierce fighter and confident woman. Her journey was a tough one and she grew on me throughout.

Calcas was a morally grey character who was hurting and makes a lot of mistakes. He grew on me as well as the story went on and I can’t wait to see more of his redemption arc.

Some tropes in here are: bisexual FMC, morally grey MMC, lots of past scars, redemption arc, friends to hate to reluctant allies to ???, dangerous quest, magic, magical creatures, strong women, complicated fated mates, and more!

A Crown Forged in Blood is a fun fantasy read that has your attention from the get go. Things immediately start happening, there is no slow start to this book so be prepared to not want to sit it down once you start! It is a fast paced read with all the best tropes such as forced proximity, fated mates, grumpy x grumpy, redemption, lovable side characters, and of course perilous quests! I got sucked into this new world and all of the tension throughout the book. This book has everything you could want from the high stakes fantasy, heartbreak, a bit of steam, banter, and secrets. Once you get to the ending you’ll be begging for more and this is only book 1 so lots more is coming and I, for one, cannot wait!
Thank you so much Poppy L. Roberts for this ARC! I cannot wait for the next one!

This book had me in a whirl wind of emotions. The way the book started had me immediately glued to it. BUT that ending!! Holy freaking cow! Lithia is such an amazing FMC I loved her badass personality and her I don’t give a shit attitude. Cal and his take nothing from no one attitude had me falling more in love with him. The way the story continued to build literally had me entranced. I cannot wait for the second book.

Highly recommend!

Thank you to the writer for this ARC!
I really enjoyed reading this one, and it was an easy read that kept my attention throughout the entire story. This book follows Lithia - a general who suddenly becomes queen when her mother dies. The magic in her realm is dying, and it's up to her to figure out why, how to stop it, and also how to overcome her past trauma while working together with Calcus, a former friend who disappeared from her last after tragedy had struck years before.
This one is a dual POV and it worked really well that way. From beginning to end I was drawn in by the writing, the descriptions and world building were on point and the characters are all amazing.
Lithia is a badass and I loved her and her story. Cal is also badass - and a bit of a hothead. There are several other character essential to the story, but these two are end game for me!
I felt like this story flowed very well, and the pacing was really well done. Overall, the beginning sucked me in and the ending had me wanting to know more. I have so many questions and can't wait to read book two!

This book truly has a little of everything. I think what I enjoyed the most was the intrigue. There’s hints of insightful information and details from the past and it’s does in such a delicate way. It definitely kept me turning page after page as I was fully invested in the characters and their story. There’s a touch of romance but it isn’t a romance story. The world was introduced bit by bit, and it wasn’t overwhelming. I would even say a beginner fantasy reader could easily follow along and enjoy the ride.

The really does NOT read like a debut, and I am so excited to see how Robert’s writing continues to progress. But also, I need the next book now! I loved this.

I need to come back and give a more complete review, but quick thoughts …
I loved this fantasy. The world was so interesting, and so are the characters. I loved the magical elements and fantastic creatures. It’s so well done, and entertaining. That cliff hanger GOT ME. I’m going to be counting down the days until the next book is written.

“A Crow Forged in Blood” by Poppy L. Roberts is a captivating start to what promises to be a fun fantasy series set in a world where women rule, and the lands are known as a Queendom. I enjoyed to world-building and the fantastical quest to save magic itself. However, it did take me along time to get through it. Both the female and male main characters are compelling, each with their own personal struggles and growth. Their romance, however, is a slow burn, with barely any hints of attraction between the leads throughout the book, making for a long, drawn-out tension that didn't always hold my attention. While I did find myself occasionally drifting, the moments of spice and the dramatic cliffhanger at the end left me wanting to see how the story progresses in the next book.

A big thank you to Poppy L. Roberts for the advanced reader copy—I’m excited to see where this journey goes next!

Review: I found this to be a very quick and entertaining read. This story line has so much potential to grow in the next book/books. Why 3 stars? After reading I had too many questions that I hope are answered in the next book. Some aspects of the book I feel were put there out of convenience and didn’t contribute to the story (if they are necessity to the next book I will amend my review). I also feel the vocabulary could be improved slightly, I feel like I’m reading the same words/description’s repetitively. Narcos deserved better!!

LOVE LOVE LOVED this book. It was my first experience as an ARC reader, and I couldn't have asked for a better book to start with.

I feel like Alice falling into the tunnell to Wonderland with how utterly this storyline consumed me and brought me into the world of The Queendom of Suviel! I am still hunting to find the magic in my core to help me recover from all the well crafted twists and turns I went through with Lithia and her companions. I can't wait until book 2 comes out so I can stop grasping tightly onto the cliff book 1 left me me hanging on to!!

A Crown Forged in Blood is a great story. You have all of the intrigue, angst, and suspense needed to set the stage for a romantic fantasy. There are even fated mates. The plot has twists you don’t see coming and the story ends on a cliffhanger.

However, all of that is overshadowed by poor grammar and syntax. I found myself having to reread passages on nearly every page to make sure I understood what was being conveyed. Normally, I can look past a few typos and still love a book. In this case, I was not able to do that.

I unfortunately had to put this one on my DNF list.
I wanted to enjoy it, though.

I’d consider myself rather forgiving with grammatical errors, but by page 22 I was faced with an improper use of “too”

By page 87, we had an instance where it’s said the FMC misses being able to glamour her appearance. In the next paragraph, the FMC is described as “glamouring her hair into a woven circlet” …With magic? Or was “glamouring” intended to be a verb? I may never know.

At that point, the story hadn’t pulled me in far enough to overlook these two things.

She must become queen and save all her lands from peril…
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
👸🏽🩸 A Crown Forged in Blood by Poppy L. Roberts 🩸👸🏽

“I am your queen… I am not going to sit on my ass while someone else decided my fate.”

First and foremost, thank you to Poppy L. Roberts for allowing me to go on this journey with Lithia as an Advanced Reader. I am thoroughly indebted to you for allowing me to be one of the firsts to travel to Arachin and trusting me with your baby. What a fantastic first installment to what I can already tell will be a stellar series. There is palpable grief and loss sprinkled throughout the story, and it is a pivotal and driving force behind a lot of characters’ actions and core of being. Lithia, the former general and now ruler of the Queendom; Calcas, the angry and misunderstood Shadow Master — both ruled and changed by their grief, are the main characters of this story. They have so much more to tell us! Also, there are so many twists and you will absolutely not expect anything that comes. I will say my favorite character is most likely Tadgh, but I need more of Thahaos. I need more of The Beneath; and I need more of Lithia and Calcas.

The reason for my rating is for two things: the fast plot and therefore minor plot holes. I felt a little lost at first, and then it picked up so fast that I didn’t have a choice but to strap in. While this isn’t a bad thing, the line does need to be toed a bit. There is so much rich content in this story and the world building is fantastic, I think the author would greatly benefit from some padding. It was incredible the way it is, currently, but give us more! We want it, we need it. I want to explore more of the lands, I need backstories, I need more interactions and explorations. I need to explore all the courts and learn more about to magic. I know this author has it in her, and she’s going to be a goddesses-damned force to reckoned with, and I cannot wait for the next installment.

A Crown Forged in Blood is an excellent, fast paced read for fans of Throne of Glass, Fourth Wing and The Serpent of Wings and Night.

“Your strength is not determined by the power you wild, but by the courage you display in the face of opposition.”

“Lia, you are queen. Don’t let one man’s presence make you forget that you are powerful. You are the moon. Do not bow to the stars.”

Summary:
They will have to navigate treacherous alliances and dangerous terrain to find the heart of Suviel. But, as they draw closer, they realize that the cost may be higher than they ever imagined. Sacrifice everything or succumb to the darkness that threatens to consume them all.

Brace yourselves, book besties, because this one does not play nice. From the moment Queen Lithia’s crown hits her head, it’s pure chaos.

The magic? Withering.
The land? Dying.
The vibes? Immaculate.

Lithia isn’t just a queen — she’s a whole problem. Former general-turned-High Queen, she’s out here swinging swords, commanding armies, and carrying the weight of a kingdom on her (very strong) shoulders. Zero time to sit pretty on that throne when literal voids of death are eating the land.

Calcas? This man is FERAL. Angry, broody, and so deliciously morally gray, I might just sign up for his villain origin story. He’s been running from grief, but now he’s forced to team up with the queen he despises.

The tension? Top-tier.
The snark? Perfection.
The slow burn? 🔥 I’m unwell.

🗡️ “You are queen. Do not let one man’s presence make you forget that you are powerful. You are the moon. Do not bow to the stars.” 🗡️
Okay, but THAT LINE? I choked. I ascended.

This story gives you perilous quests, betrayals, treacherous alliances, and the slowest burn of your life. And just when you think you’ve got it all figured out—BAM—plot twists for days. Shoutout to that cliffhanger that has me shaking for book 2.😭

✨THE HIGHLIGHTS:✨
🔮 Shadow Mommy Supreme vibes from Lithia
🔮 Emotional scars? Oh, they’ve got ‘em.
🔮 Major ✨grumpy x grumpy✨ energy
🔮 Twists, turns, and a certain fate that will have you YELLING.
“Your strength is not determined by the power you wield, but by the courage you display in the face of opposition.”
Yes, I highlighted it. No, I’m not okay.

TROPE CHECKLIST:
✅ Forced proximity (We love a “there’s only one bed” moment 👀)
✅ Fated mates (and it’s MESSY, y’all)
✅ Enemies to lovers but make it ✨angst✨

Final Verdict? This book had me feral.
The world-building? Lush.
The characters? Deliciously complicated. The ending? Devastating in the best way.

If you love a morally gray cast, betrayal that cuts deep, and MCs with enough unresolved tension to break a kingdom, then A Crown Forged in Blood needs to be in your hands yesterday.

Prepare for twists you won’t see coming and enough longing stares to power a small village.

As I have said previously in one of my other reviews, I have read quite a lot of really good books with phenomenal stories and there were some, only a handful of few authors who have successfully written an extraordinary story with their unique writing style. breathtaking story telling, and crucially, made me want to come back to the series again or reread the book. It is my personal opinion to say that Poppy L. Roberts is in the latter category.

If, in a fantasy novel, there is a lore behind the creation of the world and the magic system, I love to read about it and obsess over it. Roberts’ lore is simple enough for me to understand and follow along even as there are new secrets uncovered as the story continues to progress. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, especially in the beginning, which at first, I was a bit concerned it would be something similar to Sarah A. Parker’s When the Moon Hatched, but was glad to see that Roberts’ lore was of different vibe from Parker’s. It had felt original and had Roberts’ own personal feel to it.

The story itself is the next best thing. It is fantastical and interesting every aspect, but what I really loved about it is that the story didn’t just rapidly moved on to the next scene to get to the highlight of the romance between our two main leads or showed the climax of the story. Rather, the story evolved. It grew and blossomed the way a seed would into a beautiful rose.

Of course I have to mention Lithia, because even though there are two split perspectives between her and Calcas, the star of the show is essentially Lithia. After being tragically anointed to the High Queen, Lithia has proven time and time again that she is a badass, capable of holding her own—even with her trauma threatening to hold her back. What makes her relationship with Calcas so enduring is that Lithia ensures equality between the two of them and the two of them easily balance each other.

(And their “joining” together isn’t so bad, iykyk).

To put it simply (and to not continue to write a whole essay), A Crown Forged in Blood is a really good book and I swear, you will not regret it.

Thank you to Poppy L. Roberts for gifting me an eARC!

✨️3.75 rounded up to 4 for goodreads!✨️

First off, a massive thank you to the author, Poppy, for accepting me as an ARC reader! Anytime I get to read a debut of an author, it is such an honor!

I think the world that Poppy has created is rich with potential for where the story can go! The first chapter is the creation of the world, and I loved that I had such a clear image in my mind of it happening! There was a tiny bit of confusion when it went to the first chapter of Cal's POV. There was talk of shadows that I didn't realize he had. I wish there had been a bit more depth in explaining his magic so it wouldn't have come as such a surprise. The chapter pacing I think improves more and more as the book goes on. I loved hearing about all the other wilder magic having creatures. That they don't all fall into the trend of them needing to be beautiful. I always appreciate when authors make that nod back to folklore!

As a whole, was the book perfect? No, but it was a fantastic read! I truly enjoyed all the characters, and I'm excited to see where they go from the end of the book. Why this didn't get a full 4 stars is just that some of the language got reused. There were a few phrases that were repeated on the same page that made me think for a minute I had re-read the same line over again. 100% I think Poppy's writing and story-telling can only improve from here!

Book: A Crown Forged in Blood ARC
Series: The Forged Queendom, Book 1
Author: Poppy L. Roberts
Will You Read More From This Author: Possibly
Completed Series: No

Storyline/Plot:
This is a wonderful debut novel by Poppy L. Roberts. The Prologue was a masterpiece! The storyline was unique and had a good pace. She created characters that had their own voices and vices. The two main characters are both fighting their past while fighting for their future which gives an extra layer to the plot. I found myself itching for a conversation between them and I’ll let you figure out what I mean when you read the book.

Characters:
Lithia is done well. She is strong but understands that she is still broken by the mistakes of her past. She is haunted but wills herself to continue the best she can. I find her selflessness refreshing and somewhat stubborn. She is reckless with her life, but I can relate to that from my earlier days

Spice:
This book goes: Characters, Plot, Spice in the level of importance. While it’s present, I wouldn’t say any scene is detail. It was there were a few, hence the rating. But it wasn’t crazy. There is LGBQTIA+ representation. I found that very nice!

Triggers:
The triggers are any that you would find in a quest fantasy. So, if you can handle LOTR or Hunger Games, you’ll be fine.
