Traveling to a Spanish-speaking country soon? Just beginning to learn Spanish? If you answered either of those questions, this book has something for you!
The first half of book is ideal preparation for visiting a Spanish-speaking country, with plenty of phrases for staying at a hotel or eating at a restaurant, as well as numbers and phrases for simple introductions. It also includes a discussion of the different dialects with cultural tips for each country. A condensed version of this section could almost belong in the back of a travel guide.
There's also a discussion of the cuisine of different Spanish-speaking countries--who knew there were so many different ways to cook beans?
Unlike a travel guide, important matters of pronunciation are discussed in depth, including differences between dialects. Helpful links to web sites and YouTube videos are also included to help in this regard.
By the midpoint of the book, a deeper discussion of grammar starts, but the book doesn't become a dry textbook. More vocabulary is given along with grammar rules, as well as useful lists of common idioms and slang that might be found in different Spanish-speaking countries. Quizzes are given at the end of each chapter to reinforce this learning.

This is a great book to keep on your shelf. It cuts to the chase and get right to the conversation. It also explains dialects and slangs from different countries as well as travel phrases and ordering meals.
