Beyond the Utopian Ideal

Rate this book
Most people operate from a fixed idea or concept of how things are supposed to be, rather functioning in the moment, where they can change anything as needed to accomplish and create more. This creates a tremendous limitation. We use conceptual constructs to create a purpose and a sense of rightness. Relationship, sex, sexuality, family, and the future are examples of conceptual constructs. Society is a construct. Culture, religion, and reputation are constructs. These things are not actually real; they are conceptual realities that have been dropped into our existence. We buy into them, and then at some point, we give up our awareness in order to buy the rightness of this reality. We accept the notion that being normal, average, and real-just like everybody else-is the best and only way to be. The problem with conceptual constructs is that they put you into conflict with yourself at every turn. This book is about becoming aware of the ideal concepts and constructs that create limitations and barriers to what is possible for you. The constructs have to come off so you can create a world that works for you.

I'm really into metaphysics and esoteric studies and I was recommended this book by a spiritual healer I had been seeing who taught me some Access Consciousness tools and mantras. The author is the founder of Access and is basically trying to get you to join his cult, I mean organization. Some of the stuff in this book was questionable, like when the author talked about "pulling energy" from people to get them attracted to you so you can get laid. He gives an example of himself doing this to women, and how it worked everytime. Disgusting, and also highly manipulative. The whole Access organization itself is a bit questionable. On the surface most of this stuff seems great, and can actually be really helpful, but then he says something that seems a bit off that kind of snaps you out of that spiritual high he's got you on. The author says to turn your mind off, have no judgments, because there is no right and wrong, or good and bad, only "interesting points of veiw." After reading a few of his books you would have to lose your mind to buy into this stuff. Needless to say this book was a huge turnoff for me and certainly doesn't make me want to prescribe to Access teachings.

An Access Consciousness book that is written for the average person who has no idea of what Access Consciousness is. Anyone who wants to enhance a relationship -- be it with themselves or others -- should read this book.
2nd time I've read the book and this time it seemed as if I were reading a totally different book. Love that about consciousness.

Across 30 chapters, the author shares a number of ways in which readers can bring joy and fulfillment into their lives and makes us aware of all the options that are available to us to create a better future. I liked the presentation of ideas in the book, which systematically tell us how to leverage various tools to differentiate our thoughts, feelings, and emotions from those of others, how to bring more awareness into our lives, how to replace judgment with allowance in order to have better relationships, and so much more.

I believe this book could be beneficial for any person who wants to know if they are in the right relationships in life and also for those who want to generally boost their self awareness. But if the subject in question isn't of any interest to you, then consider giving this book a pass.

The book appears to be professionally edited. I only found minor grammar errors regarding an adjective and a couple of instances of missing punctuation.

I have read this after being you .. so my judgment is based on comparing the two books to be honest :)

Not all parts of this book felt light .. some were heavy!
Nonetheless, it did have some great liberating chapters where I felt a heaviness have left my universe.

It definitely worth reading ... I might even read it / listen to it again after a while!

All of Life comes to my life with ease, joy and glory .... is my new mantra ;)
Thanks to Gary and Dain.

BEWARE OF THIS CULT
This book, like the author's others, are full of confusion, noise and invented new age spiel and clearly written from 1 person's rather toxic point of view on relationships.
Plenty of loaded language and guided questions, invented statistics with no reference to studies done. Mind control at its most obvious.
A disgusting attempt to get "spiritual" people to join the movement, split from their partners and become "accessories".

very interesting book

I loved a lot of it in the sense that it aligns with my experience.

But then, for the parts that did not align, rather than ‘rejecting’ them; instead I put it in the space of letting it bubble inside me to see what expansion it could/would create.

This way; helps me not be constrained by my already existing view points; and allow for the possibility of unexpected new points of view.

Full of none-sense , I couldn't get past the first half , It was full of energy/attraction talk, that really can't make its way into reality

This book has helped me see how I have been looking in all the wrong places for a life that truly fits me. Not only does Gary Douglas describe the Uptopian Ideal but he also shows the reader how it is all an illusion designed to keep a person from living a life that is a contribution to them and the planet. Getting free from the Utopian Ideal allows one to create from infinite possibilities, new realities that gift each of us with joy and ease of living that brings more life to this world and our futures. This book was an eye opener and has given me renewed vision that something else - something more glorious and wonderful is possible!

This will definitely be a book I read many times. Anyone who has not taken an Access Consciousness Class may not 'get it.' I'm an Access Facilitator and I didn't get 'it.'

There are three chapters at the back of the book with reference to The Golden Planet. What would it take for Gary Douglas to finish that book? I wonder...

There is an hour meditation walk in the last chapter. I plan to complete that exercise this evening.

I now understand how the Utopian Ideal has created my life as less, rather than more. Anyone who is looking for more consciousness and would like to let go of their constructs may enjoy this read.

This handbook opens our minds for other possibilities in our lives. It encourages us to live in questions and start functioning from different points of view. The most important matter for me is that we often divorce every point of ourselves to satisfy others. And we are no true being anymore.

Profound

Only for people that are willing to look beyond the “reality” that they believe in. Life is much less complicated , we create the problems and we create complications so that we can be busy and important.

un bello manual de cuestionamientos

Esta lectura ayuda a cuestionar todo lo que está sucediendo en nuestra vida y el porqué existe una repetición de sucesos, patrones y eventos caóticos muchas veces. Podemos consultarlo siempre.
