Who knew life after disaster could be so ssssssweet?
Arthur Cain was a hero to his city, the most accomplished and respected of the firefighters in his entire district. But when a call comes in from the so-called "Halfbreed Heights", the monsterfolk part of the city, Arthur's life gets flip-turned upside down.
Though he saved the life of a matronly lamia that day, he was also partially crippled and forced into early retirement. Now unable to fit the image of her personal superman, Arthur's wife divorces him and leaves him to move into a cheaper home in the same monsterfolk slum that caused his current situation.
To satisfy his daughter's anxiety, he reluctantly agrees to take on a caregiver from the monsterfolk-run service, Maid For You. The twist? She's the serpentfolk daughter of the woman whose life he saved. It ends up being the best decision he's ever made.
It.wasnt a bad story but it was re!lybgood.either . Here was no.real comuicatiin between the mc and his lamia, if they had been truthful it would have been a short story . The ex wife has a broken ,sick mind and the story treats the main character in a really bad way. He loses the use of his legs to.save a Snake woman life his wife Devorce him because in her mind he is no longer the man wants to.have in her life because she really does not deserve having g the additional problem of.taking care of.a man whomcannkt.walk. Not only has how life become terrible.his daughter has problems with her looks .her grades and her personal life with her mother . now.the writers want to.add more grief to.the man characters life having his ex wife threatening him to.file for.full.custody of is has a relationship with the snake . I read the story all the at thru Nd why ruined the story for me was the writers just can't seem.to.give.their MC a brake . The MC will.probably face many future problems because he has a relationship.with a non human female called a lamia with a human woman top and a big long sna!e bottom. They stop the story when ot.becomes known that the ex wife has private.detectives taking pictures of what is going on in the house . Not a bad read but I lime.to read stories that have been written to then last.book. Instill.think that anyone who writes a story who continuously bring bad thingsto happen to the MC without diverting their malice is notma.Great story
Ok wow, this is not like any other rom-coms I've read so far, a lot of heavier themes are introduced here than what I am used to seeing, or I am not reading the 'good' ones
The premise is quite simple, man has it all and by risking his life he ends up crippled and loses everything until a certain maid comes along...
The perspective from Meghan was frustrating to read sometimes it felt a bit wild...but some people are so narcissistic they believe the world revolves around them. It's great we get to see multiple perspectives so we kind of see that the world is not just static as things are definitely happening in the background that drive the story forward. One thing though: world-building was rather meager it was enough for the plot and we do get some instances of heavy discrimination towards monster-kind as well as some corruption. Surprisingly substance abuse is quite present.
What was really nice to read was the progression of recovery. That aspect was rather well done, as someone who has gone through extensive physical therapy I could really understand what our MC was going through. The cultural differences regarding love and courtship was rather amusing and adorable. Not sure if the trope of 'holding back' was too much since I felt like I could attribute it to Lamian culture and the consideration of modernization of Lamian culture to make integration in Human society easier for everyone.
As a sucker for sweet and tender romance, these scenes were really enjoyable to read. Love to see consent being a big thing in this work and was done in an organic way. At least it felt organic to me. In the end, the book was rather long and I was looking for something of this length, despite its length it felt neither too long nor too short, though I must admit that certain parts could have gone quicker and I would have preferred to slow down at certain parts of the story.
This story had honestly everything I could want from an ending; resolving the major conflicts, getting on the same page with all the characters, and just a bright future ahead. Would indeed love to see a sequel to this!!
Arthur is a firefighter who becomes permanently injured on a call to a neighborhood which is a resettlement area for monsters from other worlds. Within the year, he’s not only lost his job, but has been divorced by his wife and has had to move to a poorer neighborhood-the same one where his last call occurred.
Sansara is the daughter of a lamia saved by Arthur when he was injured and lives near his new home. She visits to thank him for saving her mother’s life and ultimately ends up becoming his caregiver.
From there, the book follows the budding romance of Arthur and Sansara, as well as their friends and family members. The story alternates between the major characters to narrate: Arthur as he transitions to his new life of working in an office environment, undergoes regular physical therapy and comes to appreciate and eventually love Sansara. For her part, Sansara’s attraction for Arthur quickly grows from a purely physical one to love and respect. The story does focus on the two’s physical desires and there are several explicit sexual scenes.
In the course of the story, the reader meets Arthur’s best friend Mark, another firefighter, his daughter Tanya, and Sansara’s mother and friends in the monster community.
Overshadowing all of this is a threat to Arthur and Sansara’s new relationship and the generally poor relationship between the human and monster communities.
Bottom line, this story has plenty of spice but also a full story with three dimensional characters and a real plot. I hope the authors continue this series and I recommend the book as a fun read.
I enjoyed this book. It was more of a romance book that took most of the book to evolve. There was also the part about the narcissistic ex-wife to deal with that even though was very plausible, most likely wouldn't happen in real life. However I found the story enjoyable and the characters believable for the most part. The story follows Arthur Cain a very buff firefighter who nearly loses his life saving a matronly Lamia woman in what is referred to Halfbreed Heights. This part of the story reminds of the television series "Carnival Row". You have monsterkin refugees living in the slummier part of town where some of the humans are accepting and some of the humans have very real prejudices. After saving the woman he becomes crippled and unable to really walk. His wife leaves him and blames him for making her divorce him because he is crippled and she can't stand to take care of him. The only place that he can afford to live is in Halfbreed Heights. He has a teenage daughter who takes him being crippled and the divorce very hard and insists on him to take a maid. All this come to a head when Sansara (the daughter of matron Lamia woman) as luck would have it comes to visit him and thank him for saving her mother. She ends up becoming his maid and the romance starts from there.
The characters and their dynamic together were excellent. I really enjoyed it being a slow-burn type of romance. It did happen quickly enough that I can't really call it an actual slow burn, but it gives those vibes.
Any complaints I have are really minor, but they do hit enough that it keeps it from being a five-star for me. The first real complaint I have is not really getting hardly any family life dynamic at the end. Sure, there's a scene, but I would really have loved more of this, especially when Tanya was still a teenager. Another complaint I have is that we didn't really get to see any interaction between her and his friends. I guess we did eventually do a little bit with Mark, and that was great, but I'm left wanting more. I would have also loved to have seen more interactions with Tanya and Sansa.
Honestly, now that I'm writing all this out, I think my biggest complaints all roll up into one simple thing: they were too isolated aside from any other character interactions together, aside from a few minor interactions with Tanya.
---Spoilers--- For me, a high point of the book was the character building. Shorter (more to the point of books) books like this dont exactly focus on it. They give you enough to start getting an idea of every characters rolls and go from there. While reading this book I could easily see the humanity in the characters and see how they would continue being if the story continued. Another highpoint for me was the follow through at the end of the book and the fact the author(s) kept up with his disability and didn't just drop it off the face of the earth.
I quite enjoyed this book and would be intrigued if this became a series. Although a series of their life going forward, maybe turning it into a harem or something like that or turning the POV to other couples is up in the air. But the world seems decent to build in even if there was pretty minimal amounts of world building in this story.
I couldn't put this book down and may have lost quite a bit of sleep to finish it... Lol This collaboration between Virgil and Peter is perfect. The characters are relatable and realistic, being injured on the job while doing the right thing, having a crazy ex wife, trying to raise a teenage daughter and all while doing phys therapy! I love this slice of life romance and I want to put spoilers in here, but I think you should just read it for yourself! Highly recommend reading the book!
What a bad story full of cliche! It's only good as a no-brainer read/listen for older teenage kids.
If you are in it for story - there is none. Ok, there is some, but very weak and predictable. If you are in it for the characters - they are flat, with no development along side of the... missing story (yea, I get it, with no story, there is no way to develop the characters). It's all black and white. If you are in it for the erotic perks, they are scarce.
The reading was funny, but I'm afraid I wasn't suppose to laugh when I did. And not as often as I wanted.
A lamia in love and an antagonist that's crazy, what a story. This story was a great portrayal of the lengths people will go to be kind, and the strength needed to overcome horrible people, plus one of the best depictions of an insane hatesink character I have seen since Chloe for anyone that has read 4064's work. The romance is sweet while still being boiling hot, mixing the two extremes nicely, and I can't wait to read the other 2 books in the series soon.
Loved this book! Virgil and Peter did an amazing job with showing the characters build from start to finish. I loved how even though this was fantasy there were emotional elements that really hit home for me which made this a much more passionate read. The tension build, as well as how the characters reacted to each other were well done, and well paced. Hope to see more collaborations and works from these authors!
Love the story. Characters are well written, but at some points the affirmation of the Male lead felt a little repetitive. The 18+ scenes were tasteful. It definitely was not porn with plot, but a wonderful story with a little spice.
Would love to read more stories about this couple or the potential others that were hinted at in this story. Will be recommending this book to others.
Okay I have not been so excited for a book in quite a while. Aside from cebelius's WYLAMG series, which is also top tier to me. I don't want to spoil anything but I loved the premise and the execution was great!
I would LOVE a series in this style from these guys. It has so much potential and id love to see more authors be able to do that.
I hope this book gets enough attention to warrant more because I'd love more!
I've never really been a romance novel kinda guy, but I decided to try it because my wife loves them and I wanted to share some of her interests so... yeah. I was surprised how involved the story was, I got hooked on the characters and their lives as they unfolded. Much more than I was expecting, im looking forward to more if this becomes a series.
Kind of reminded me of Cebelious’s “Grace” book I think it was. Very wholesome mono-romance and decent spice! Love it when Virgil co-authors something. Brings out his great romance writing and story telling while playing down his brand of humor which I don’t like so much. Would recommend!
This book is a fantastic love story. All the characters are great, and all the relationships are very organic. I would love if this became a series, but at the same time, I don't know where you would go with it because it's wrapped up so nicely at the end. Either way, it was a great read!
After reading this book, I have found it's a great slice of life/ hurt comfort relaxing read. I would definitely love to read other species in the maid for you, program, and maybe a prequel of the demihumans during the time of coming through the portals, their struggles, and finding love.
Sometimes the build up felt a little slow. Sometimes it felt dragged out, but by the time you get to the end of the book, it was beautiful. I love it when the authors talk about what happens after the fact. So please turn this book into a series, since this is the first time I’ve actually left a review. And I can’t wait to read the remaining books if you make them.
The authors portrayal of the characters and the depth of the view of their psyche was deeply touching. I found this book to be much more serious, in-depth, and challenging in a personally emotional manner than I was expecting. A wonderful piece of literature and a tribute to both authors.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. I sincerely hope that the rest of you out there enjoy it as much as I did. 100% Disabled Veteran, I have had multiple strokes and have.trouble walking. I have a home health aid that comes in and cleans and cooks 9 hours a week. Without her I would be in a nursing home at 54.
This book offers a fantastic men's romance story which really pulls on the heartstrings. Watching Arthur, a character who seemed to be on top of the world finds himself at rock bottom. Luckily he soon has an adorable Lamia women willing to help him with his recovery process. It's a very charming story and a great way to start of the new year for reading.
I was looking for a good romance that was more from a guys perspective and while it’s duel pov I prefer that. It’s a great read that hits all the right notes. I hope to see a series like the end talked about
I had a great time reading this novel. It's ab easy and fun read with well thought out characters. The rhythm of the story is nice and the characters are well thought out. I hope the authors continue to write this in a series.
Arthor and Sanasa come together after a tragedy falling deeply in love. They rise above the prejudice of small minded people and a crazy ex-wife to build a great relationship. I hope this does become a series.
A great new book. An unusual story about humans and monsterkin trying go live side by side and the problems that arise. Some explicit sex does occur between the species, just so you know. Hopefully there will be more to come.
I really enjoyed this book. I hope the author does a standalone series with the rest of the characters that are brought up. Look forward to more from both these authors
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. Plenty of background, emotion connection. I enjoy harem lit and I feel this story sex scenes were erotic they could have been more. A series!?? Yes please!!!
Loved this otherworldly romance. Even in a fantasy setting, the whole 'Love is love' concept builds great stories. ❤️ Looking forward to more adventures the couple and their family and 'Maid for You'.
Really enjoyed this book. I loved the dynamics and growth of the characters as the book progressed. It can really be one person that makes a difference.
Enjoyed the story immensely. Easy to get into the characters as well as societal prejudices regarding "outworlders" and human interaction. Story line believable and would enjoy similar fare in the future.
