Taming Beckett, should’ve been called Taming Beckett While Finding Myself. Actually Taming Beckett is better, but that’s exactly what this book is about. Learning about one’s true self. I thoroughly enjoyed what the author wrote and if I’m being honest I can’t wait to dig into book 2 as well as the rest of this series!
Beckett is spiraling quickly into rock bottom. He’s losing his hockey career, he lost his restaurant, he lost all his money and his drug addiction almost killed someone.
Paige has her company and a marriage she’s trying to save. A husband she loves but he’s always traveling for work, or so she thought.
When these two meet again Beckett unloads on her, not realizing who she is. But in the end these two may be what each other needs. It might take some time but Beckett remembers Paige, well Andie as he called her, she’s the only one who ever told him “no.”
A budding friendship forms between these two broken souls. Broken long before their current life situations. The author takes one on adventure while these two discover who they truly are and what makes them happiest. The growth by both characters is beautifully written, especially Beckett.
This is one of those books I didn’t want to put down. I only did because I had no choice and now that I’m done I want more!

She was his new drug, and he knew no way to break this addiction. Nor did he want to.
This was just too all over the place. In theory the plot wasn’t bad but the execution was ill paced. A mix of show and tell and I think the wrong parts are shown. I’m quite surprised at all the 5 star reviews 🤔 The writing was just not strong enough to pull of a deep, moving story that I think the author was going for here.
Beckett lived up to his bad boy reputation, mired in women, booze and drugs, until he lost everything. Initially I didn’t necessarily mind seeing this on page, but I could have done without it continuing to happen deep into the story. I’m all for a good character arc and reformed manwhore storyline, but unfortunately don’t think Beckett truly grew out of that phase quick enough. How easily he would fall into old habits may be realistic but it’s not something I still want to read about past the 50% mark. There’s even a part at almost 70% where he was close to crossing the line. The fact that he didn’t doesn’t negate the fact that he still put himself into situations he shouldn’t have. If he truly loved Paige he wouldn’t have been able to take it that far with both the drugs and the women.
I won’t even go into my issues with Paige because honestly Beckett was enough to turn me off. She was equally eye roll worthy but for different reasons. I don’t know how I didn’t DNF, other than to say I was curious to see what drama there would be.
The last 20% went far too fast for how the rest of the book was paced, filled with clichés and and surface level resolutions to issues. And frankly I just never loved this couple.
The epilogue, set 20 years later, was surprisingly sweet and probably the best part of this book 🤣

Meanwhile, although Paige is highly successful in business, this success hasn’t translated into her relationships. After her husband cheats, she finds herself in the mist of a divorce and untrusting of men. Having such scandal-plagued playboy athlete as a client is risky. But the high commission she’ll get from the sale seems worth it.
What I loved most about Taming Beckett was that I felt the character growth of both Beckett and Paige. At the beginning Beckett is so down on his luck. He seems like the typical sports bad boy with a bad attitude to match. However, the more we get to know him and his layers are pilled back, the more we got to see that there is a lot more to him.
His growth was also very believable. Throughout the book, we got a peak into his past, his mind, why he acted the way he did, and how and why he would change. I genuinely loved him by the end. Paige was also a great character. Her struggles in trusting Beckett was also believable given the circumstances. I also loved how both characters were able to find themselves individually as well as develop their relationship throughout the story.
Speaking of relationship, I also loved how these 2 characters became genuine friends first and were there for each other, and slowly, this translates to their relationship. I could definitely see why their relationship would work.
Beautifully written, this book had me hooked from chapter one. I did not want to put it down.
I listened to the audiobook of this which was narrated by Marcio Catalano and Veronica Pace. They were excellent in this. Their narration brought the story and characters of this book to life. Highly recommend the audiobook.

Now this is a sports romance with some meat to it! If you love a good sports romance with a couple that is truly finding themselves, a second chance at love with a bit of a slow burn and a chemistry that is just off the charts, than look no further. GK Brady has it for you with her first book in the Playmaker series. Meet Beckett. Too big for his britches, as I would say, he is a hockey player who lets his success go to his head. Reaping the rewards had him crashing quick and reaching rock bottom had him suspended from playing. Now Beckett has some real world realities to face as his life, his finances and direction has taken a turn. Paige is the one that turned him down, but now as he is changing, and they are getting to know each other for real, things are beginning to turn around. Or are they? I loved this book! First, I love that Beckett is not glorified. He comes in, hits bottom and it's not easy to get back up. And then we have Paige/Andie, and she is working through her own set of problems. Making life decisions and overcoming pain is not easy and these two bring that out. GK Brady has a winner on her hands with this one, and I can't wait to see what is in store next.
Marcio Catalano is Beckett, and what a voice! He has that arrogance in the beginning, just as expected, but he changes as Beckett does. Love the inflections, and ability to make his humble. Veronica Pace is wonderful as Andie, her feelings on her sleeve, it is easy to feel the turmoil and pain she is going through. These two are an amazing team at bringing these characters to life and made this a fantastic listen.

5 + stars for Team Beckett!
I absolutely loved this story, and I'm completely in love with Beckett! The author has created a realistic, flawed and endearing romantic character. He is officially in my hero hall of fame.
Beckett hits rock bottom after an accelerating freefall, propelled by a combination of bad decisions and all the trappings of fame going to his head. But even when he was at his worst, I never disliked him; instead, I felt sorry for him and rooted for him from the start to get out of the hole he had dug for himself. When he meets Paige, a smart, grounded but ambitious woman, he finally starts to turn things around and there I was, cheering for them both on the sidelines. I loved how their relationship developed - friends first then lovers. A stronger foundation than insta-love and it was easy to see why these two people needed each other.
Highly recommended! Can't wait to read the second book!

This is a fantastic sports romance novel, my first book written by G.K. Brady and I enjoyed her writing style and the story she created, it is original with interesting storylines that are captivating from start to end. The characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with, they were easy to care about too. Beckett Miller, a professional hockey player, took living the high life to a whole new level, a life of luxury, a revolving door of woman, booze, and drugs, which lands him in hot water with the law and with his team. Then everything comes crashing down on him, he was a liability to his team so they let him go, and if that was not bad enough, he loses his endorsements and after taking more hits to his pocket, he needs to downsize. Paige Anderson’s career is taking off in the direction she wants, her husband isn’t the most supportive of her job and her choices and with him working in London they are getting more distance. Something they could have worked on if he had not betrayed her. Beckett Miller shows up in her life again in the most unexpected of ways. She remembered him from back in her school days, though he did not remember her, which was obvious when he goes off on a rant mistaking her for someone else. She was a good sport about it, though he still wanted to make it up to her and wanted to use her to sell her properties. Paige does not fall at his feet like most woman, and he finds it refreshing. When she agrees to work with him, they get to spend some time together, he shows her a different side of who he is and he just likes what he sees in Paige. These two are dealing with their own issues, Paige’s are with her marriage and Beckett’s are with his lifestyle and choices he made in the past. His career on the ice may be over, but he is trying to be a better man, and he owes it all to Paige, despite her not knowing that. The chemistry between Paige and Beckett was sizzling hot, and it was great to watch them get to know each other, starting off as a work relationship morphing to a friendship and then so much more. It was also great to watch Beckett’s character grow and see all the goodness he had within himself. I loved how everything played out in this book, it is a beautifully plotted story that has perfect balance of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. G.K. Brady, thank you for this great story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Marcio Catalano and Veronica Pace were the perfect cast to bring these characters and story to life. They had a complete understanding of who they were portraying, giving each a voice that fit that character’s persona and were believable in every role they played. Catalano’s Beckett was spot on, grasping every side of his personality, from his cocky side in the beginning to this caring side and Pace did the same as Paige and was just as amazing. Both were fabulous performing the roles of the secondary characters as well. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into their performance, making you feel every single one. These versatile voice artists are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the fantastic listen.

Some stubbles in third act, but great characters and fantastic narration…

In Taming Beckett, Brady does an admirable job setting up two compelling MCs. Although angsty romance isn’t typically a flavor I enjoy, from that intense chapter 1, through the first two-thirds of the book, I was pulled into this story. The development of Beckett and Paige’s relationship is so dynamic and believable. The depiction of Paige’s divorce and Beckett’s recovery were truly some of the best representations of those experiences I’ve read in a romance, where dwelling on harsher life moments can be tough balancing act. I thought Brady balanced the hope and harsh quite deftly.
However, though this story was mostly well-written, there was a point in the third act where the angst tipped too towards melodrama for me. There’s a problematic femme-fatale character that was a bit much - Beckett and Paige already had more grounded and Interesting conflicts to overcome that had been building quite well without her deeply disturbed presence. The last chapters also had a couple “fix it” conversations for each MC with a parent that were a bit cliche, but at least Beckett’s convo with his dad felt more earned than Paige’s with her mom. The emotional distance and lack of build up between the two women on the page prior to that undermined the scene and its intended impact. That is then followed by a scene at Paige’s grandmothers grave that didn’t mitigate the melodrama at all where Brady uses a literary device that just frustrates me, but thankfully it only lasts a few pages. Still, despite the third act hiccups, the first two thirds and the ultimate resolution/reconcilliation are very well done.
Excellent without exception is the narration. Marcio Catalano and Veronica Pace are new-to-me narrators and this outing makes me look forward to seeking out more of their work. Each performer brought layers to the characters and situations - even the OTT third act elements. Catalano was equally compelling whether Beckett was being a frustrating a-hole or the swoony, smexy man who turned Paige and the reader into a puddle. Pace was similarly adept at making even Paige’s less than endearing moments more tolerable. I loved that even though the story pov was third person, there were two narrators to represent both MCs. I generally find third person a more grounded and accessible pov; first person can tip towards whiny or humble-braggish when not well-executed, which immediately takes me out of the narrative. But I love that dual first person POV in a story usually means two audio performers - double the fun! Still, I cherish a solid third person pov read and find it more relatable; however, that tradeoff is that for audio this usually means just one narrator. Not so here! And the audio of Taming Beckett is all the better for it.
Overall, definitely worth a listen. The initial grounded depictions of struggles with addiction and divorce are well done, and the development of the central relationship is lovely, despite an uneven third act.

But I love that dual first person POV in a story usually means two audio performers - double the fun! Still, I cherish a solid third person pov read and find it more relatable; however, that tradeoff is that for audio this usually means just one narrator. Not so here! And the audio of Taming Beckett is all the better for it.
Overall, definitely worth a listen. The initial grounded depictions of struggles with addiction and divorce are well done, and the development of the central relationship is lovely, despite an uneven third act.

Taming Beckett is a bad boy, good girl/ friends to lovers romance that takes two people on a journey of self-discovery and finding love with all of the ups, downs, and bumps along the way.
This is a new to me author, and this was an impressive introduction to her writing. I became very invested in Beckett and Paige, especially with how the story played out and unfolded. The two start living very separate lives, Paige is a married woman who has her own renovation business, and Beckett is a Hockey player who is on the brink of losing his career from his endless stream of woman and his problems with alcohol and cocaine. The two met briefly in college, but other than that, they were not friends or even acquaintances up until Beckett literally loses everything and enlists her help to sell one of his homes. They become friends, nothing more. Paige was still married. She had no intention of leaving her husband until she discovered he’d been cheating on her with the same woman for years. Even then, Beckett is there for her as a friend and a very good friend at that.
I love the building of this relationship. This was not insta love they both had very real problems in their own personal lives, and they found a strong bond between them as friends that built up to more. Beckett found true peace and contentment with Paige. He realized how self destructed his life was and how much better he wanted to be. Paige realized her husband had never been the man she thought he was, he had never been supportive of her, never been proud of her or believed in her and he never really made a secret of it. With Beckett, she felt valued and knew her worth. Still, as the relationship developed into more, she was holding back. It was understandable and relatable she had been betrayed in the worst way, and suddenly she’s falling hard and fast for a man who’s not had the best of reputations where women are concerned. She had to learn to trust herself before she trusted another man with her heart.
This book was very well written. Nothing was rushed or even drawn out too much. There was balance and flow, It had relatable characters and situations and made me truly care about these two people. It was fumbling amazing!
Marcio Catalano and Veronica Pace did a wonderful job with narration. I will definitely keep an eye out for titles either one bring their voices to in the future. 5 star performances! For this 5 star romance!

First in series with a new to me author.
Beckett is a professional hockey player. He's the quintessential bad boy player. Women, booze, drugs, and scandal are his life until he hits rock bottom. Everything is taken from him and he has to find a way to find solid ground and rebuild the life he wants selectively rebuilding from the ashes.
Paige is living her best-ish life. She has a flourishing buisness, a husband she loves and prospects on the horizon that excite her. She also, used to know Beckett once upon a time and through mutual friends, she's helping him move forward from disaster. Then he's helping her when her life implodes.
This slow burn story has these two building a beautiful friendship and supporting each other as they piece their lives back together and eventually find their way from friends to lovers. But can the sins of the past really stay in the past or will it colour their chance for a future... together.
The audiobook for this one was performed by 2 new to me narrators flowing back and forth smoothly in this 3rd person narration. Taming Beckett is the first standalone novel in the Playmakers series by G.K. Brady. The story focuses on the developing relationship between Beckett Miller, a bad boy hockey player down on his luck following a series of drug related incidents, and Paige Paulson née Anderson, a property developing stuck in a loveless marriage.
I really enjoyed the relationship which developed between Beckett and Paige (or Andie as he called her), who rekindled their friendship from college when they bump into each other at an open house. There was lots of banter, sexual tension, and self discovery which was lovely to listen to. I was concerned that this might end up with Paige cheating on her husband. Although he was a complete wanker, I was desperate for her not to cheat on him, as that would have dragged her down to his level.
I felt that there were too many tropes used in this book: bad boy/good girl, cheating, miscommunication, accidental pregnancy. I didn't feel like they all added something to the story, and could have done with fewer.
I wasn't thrilled with the pacing of this book. The first proper meeting between them was over 2 hours into a 10 hour book, and it felt as though the build to the climax of the story took far too long without building my anticipation for it. I enjoy a slow burn, but this wasn't the sort of story where you giggle with glee the first time the characters hold hands.
Beckett Was an interesting character. His emotional trauma from the death of his mother had clearly affected him, and his life had gone off the rails with drugs and alcohol. Despite the plethora of negative traits, he still inspired sympathy in me, which I think is a sign of a well written character!
Paige on the other had was a bit of a wet wipe at times. She was so fixed on the fact that Beckett couldn't change, or her mum couldn't change, but didn't hesitate to sleep with her ex-husband again because she thought he was sorry. I was furious with that decision.
The narration by Marcio Catalano and Veronica Pace was not my favourite. I found it hard with both narrators to distinguish between whether it was narration, dialogue (and by whom!) and internal monologue. I'm not sure I would listen to either of them again.

If you love a great sports, second chance romance that was a slow burn (for me) I would definitely recommend this book highly! This author is new to me and I love sports romance books, especially a hockey romance.
Beckett Miller is a hot shot NHL player who loves hockey, booze, drugs and women. When Beckett's life spins out of control off the ice, his hockey career is threatened. Paige Anderson has it all....successful business, loving husband and wonderful life....or so she thinks. When Beckett initially meets Paige to sell his house to make money, putting two and two together they knew each other in their college years. Paige's marriage is in shambles and Beckett's hockey profession and they are there to lean on each other through the ups and downs...and sparks fly hard in that process between Paige and Beckett...but when an ugly scandal shows its head...will Paige and Beckett survive knowing the past can come back and haunt Beckett?

Taming Beckett is a sports romance tale, and we all know that sports romances have bad boys at the helm and this one is no different.
Broken and down on his luck but of his own doing NHL bad boy Beckett Miller is on the verge of losing it all. Turning to his friend to see if she can help him turn it all around, he discovers much more than he thought he could.
I liked Beckett and Paige and the trials and tribulations they were going through. The chemistry there and They were good for each other, but I found that I could not fully immerse myself in their story. The pacing felt a little too slow at times and a little drawn out leaving me wanting more. Having said that I will be catching up on the next books in the series to see where GK takes it. There are nine books to the series, so it is bound to get exciting?
If you like contemporary sports romances, then give this book a try.

This is my first book by this author as well as these narrators. I enjoyed the narration. I feel like the narrators did a fantastic job with the story.
As for the story itself, it was a little slow. I was little iffy at first because I was unsure about the relationship the main female character had. I’m not into a cheating trope so I thought I might have to DNF the book. However that was not the case. I really enjoyed the development of Beckett’s character and how he built himself up from rock bottom.
Overall narration and narrators were awesome.
Storyline was not so much my cup of tea. But still a cute story.

Taming Beckett was my first book by G.K. Brady and it was a solid listen. Beckett is the bad boy of hockey struggling with addiction and Paige is the good girl trying to save her marriage and dealing with verbal/emotional abuse from ex. A slowish burn definitely was warranted given their life circumstances and the buildup of their friendship to more was worth it.

loved loved loved!!
Loved taming Beckett, with a bad boy persona and not seeing a problem with it until an unfortunate night changed his whole life he had to start from the bottom. The spice was great and the story was fascinating. There are trigger warning but it was still fantastic!

This was my first G.K. Brady's book. This is the first book in The Playmakers Series, a Hockey Romance. This is a great start to the series. Beckett and Andy's slow burn romance is sweet, engaging, and slow paced. They are both interesting characters. This is a beautiful second chance at love. Marcio Catalano and Veronica Pace did an excellent job bringing this story to life. Looking forward to more in the series. #HomeCookedBooks

I thought this book was very well written. I loved it from beginning to end. Beckett Miller was the epitome of bad boy. He had the gorgeous body, rippling muscles, NHL Star, was a player with a capitol P, was into drugs...you
Name it! His life came to a screeching halt one night when a girl he partied with ended up in a bad place. His life was gone as he knew it. He went from partying every night, expensive liquor to unemployed, drinking the cheap stuff and no money for anything.
He ran into Paige...who he went to college with years ago. They became friends and Beckett was there for her as a best friend when she went thru something horrible. Andie aka Paige also was there for Beckett while he battled everything going on and tried to get his career back. They were like best friends. The chemistry was there for both of them but, there were other things more important for both of them to focus on.

A tale of second chance romance. Beckett is realizing that the way he’s been living is life is ruining his career and his life. He has to go back to Denver and basically start over having been downgraded to the minor leagues. Paige, a home renovator, remembers him from school. She is the coach’s real estate agent. Let’s just say the chemistry is still there , though Beckett takes a little longer to remember and Paige has some baggage to lose. The story is entertaining and heartfelt. You feel Beckett’s suffering and Paige’s heartbreak as she realizes that her spouse doesn’t support her. These two belong together and they have a long road back to each other. There are misadventures and misunderstandings. There is relationship trouble that must be worked out. Can they do it? I felt they could. This is a must read. The characters are true to life and very relatable. It is fun to read about anything in Colorado, being a Colorado girl. The plot was smooth and flowed well. A wonderful story that is a must read. Well-written and enjoyable.

Taming Beckett is so sweet and has all the feels. I really like the epilogue, I also like that they became friends first. Paige has more restraint than I do, I woulda been all over Beckett in a heart beat. We all need a friend like Beckett. The narrators did the characters justice, they were truly amazing. Great Job! Once I got sucked into this audio, it felt like it was over in a minute. I want more Paige and Beckett.

Wow I love this book so much! Becketts life is going down hill. Paige has her own company but is also dealing with personal issues as well. But Beckett and Paige meet (again) when they really needed one another. The way the author wrote these characters had me in love with them from the very start. Beckett may seem reckless but I love him! The way this book took ahold of me, is unreal. This book is emotional and heartbreaking but it’s also full of love and positivity. People can do better if they really want too! Just because someone made a few bad decisions doesn’t mean they’re a bad person! This is the first book by G.K. Brady and I didn’t realize this was part of a series, so I can’t wait to read more! Highly highly recommend!!!!!!

I absolutely loved Beckett and Paige’s story. The connection they share, the fierce protectiveness he has for her, the way she falls SO hard without even being able to admit it to herself.

First up, the audiobook narrators did an excellent job of bringing this book to life.
This was my first book by this author. The story was just okay for me. It has all the components and there was solid character growth for both the hero and heroine. It dragged in parts and was just predictable. There was nothing that made the characters or the storyline unique or different. It did miss the mark for me a bit. However, I would definitely try another book from this author as it just may have been this story. I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

LOVED, loved, loved …
I actually read this out of order, and I must say I’ve loved them all so far! Beckett is that guy all the girls want - the unapologetic “bad boy” … but bad boys can be tamed by the right girl and “Andie” is just the one to bring him to heel - not that she was trying to! Can’t wait for more!
I actually read this out of order, and I must say I’ve loved them all so far! Beckett is that guy all the girls want - the unapologetic “bad boy” … but bad boys can be tamed by the right girl and “Andie” is just the one to bring him to heel - not that she was trying to! Can’t wait for more!

I didn't know what to expect going into this book. I wasn't sure if we were going to have an affair that led the main female character back to her family or if the bad boy hockey star was going to ruin a marriage and return to hockey. I know I am shortsighted when those were the only two outcomes I could think of. Let's begin the journey that I took through this book without giving away anything (it can be done). So going in, I was already a little miffed with this book just because of the before mentioned outcomes that I could think of. I instantly fell in love with Beckett and Paige. They are both facing obstacles that would be tough for anyone to go through. I did not even fathom what was going to happen in this book and I am glad that I decided to give this book a chance. The love story that unfolds throughout the pages is amazing. There are parts of the book that made me wrinkle my nose because I didn't care for what was happening but I persevered through the book and it has the most amazing ending I didn't even think would be possible. I have to give this a 5 star rating because the author did an amazing job with touchy subject matter. It really made me realize that there is away more to the picture than just what can be seen in the black and white. They grey area that lives around what can and should be done is where this story thrives. This book made me feel as if I was part of the story. I even got snippy with anyone who tried to dare interrupt me while reading this. The author has shown me that I must give every book a chance even. if I think I know what is going to happen. Whether the ending was one that I predicted or something completely different, when you read this book you will enjoy the journey the characters take and the amount of growth they have. The book is really well written and kept me turning pages. There is some angst, some steam, love, heartache, and growth all throughout this book. You will not be disappointed with this read.

Taming Beckett is a delightful surprise. I have never read anything by G. K. Brady before but it sounded interesting, so I thought I would give it a try and I am so glad I did. I thoroughly enjoyed this enthralling story and once I started it, I couldn’t put it down. The characters are engaging and easy to relate to, especially, Beckett, who stole my heart. This is a heartbreaking and emotional story about Beckett, a sexy hockey player, who has made one too many bad decisions. Beckett proves that yes, people can change.
Beckett has made a lot of mistakes in his life and he has finally hit rock bottom. He is a defensive hockey player and he has partied like a rock star. For years, he has been on a path of self destruction with booze, drugs and women and now he is paying the price. Even though Beckett has a lot of issues, I found it easy to like him. I wanted him to work through his problems so he can feel he deserves Paige.
Paige knew Beckett in college and they meet again ten years later, when Beckett’s life is spinning out of control. Paige is nothing like the women Beckett is usually attracted to. She is smart, down to earth and doesn’t expect anything from Beckett.
Beckett and Paige meet at a time in their lives when they need someone they can trust; someone who will be in their corner. I loved all of the interactions between Beckett and Paige, they have a lot of chemistry flowing between them. They help each other but are afraid to admit how much they care. If you enjoy vulnerable, hot hockey stars, you don’t want to miss this one.

In this story, NHL star Beckett Miller falls from grace and loses almost everything. He hires real estate agent/former college friend Paige Anderson to sell his home. Paige begins to form a friendship with Beckett, meanwhile she is having marriage troubles. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult readers.
I liked Beckett. It is understandable how he ruined his career. I like that he owns up to his mistakes and grows up. I at times felt like Beckett was being portrayed as older than thirty-two-years-old. Having worked in the construction industry, I could relate with Paige. I enjoyed her character. She is hardworking and determined. I like that Beckett and Paige formed a friendship, and that she did not cheat on her husband, Adrian Paulson.
TAMING BECKETT was a good story, but it didn’t always hold my attention, and it sometimes felt slow. There are some valuable life lessons. Paige and Becket have great chemistry and a solid relationship. They both have family issues that are resolved. I like that they make each other better people. I want to continue following the series. T.J.’s story is next in book two, THIRD MAN IN. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
