I really tried to like this book but I don’t think it was for me. Monroe being a doormat was a hard pill to swallow. She allowed everyone to tell her who she was and what she wanted. It felt like the book was all over the place and some scenes felt like fillers. I also thought it was super cringe that she would say “heal me” during their sexual interactions.
I think I need to read books with strong women or women who become strong without needing a savior.
Growing up in the mafia is a unique experience, only known by those who have lived through it. The experience is vastly different for a woman vs a man, something that Royale and Monroe know all too well.
Monroe Iris has been raised with every luxury known to man but has never had protection or felt love from her father. She has always known that her marriage would be arranged, as it had for all the women before her. However, she at least thought her father and the intended's family would make is special for her. Nope! Sitting in a room with all men, not allowed to speak unless called upon, then her fiancé is an asshole! 😡 She moves forward with the engagement, as she understands what she has to do for the family, while her unhappiness settles in. At her fiancé's birthday party, she meets a handsome man, who quickly gives her butterflies, and leaves her speechless.
Dr. Royale London 🤩 Raised to become the next capo of his family, but turns his back on it all, after losing two important people in his life. He wants to carve his own path in life, becoming a plastic surgeon, and angering his father along the way. When Royale meets Monroe, he is immediately smitten with her, and wants to make her his. He doesn't give a damn who she is attached to!
When Monroe shows up in Dr. London's office to prep for surgery, he is furious. He knows that no good ass fiancé of hers is forcing this upon her, as her body is perfect. A plan quickly comes to mind, and he will save her from the men who mean her no good.
What was supposed to be a business transaction to save Monroe, turned into so much more. I loved the way he helped her heal with words of inspiration, taught her to make her own decisions, and to love her body. While they were building their connection, the snakes were lurking trying to derail it all. Men of "that" world can't stand for their egos to be f'd with and will lash out. Monroe's father putting her in danger like that just shows how much of a trash ass father he was! 🤬 But no worries, Royale got this. Just because he is doctor now, doesn't mean he forgot how his guns bust. A really good read, check it out. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Finding my bodyguard had so much potential. I apparently really like the arranged marriage trope. Dr. London brought the energy, and I do mean BDE. Monroe, was an insecure girl who was forced into a marriage with a lame. Actually, Monroe wasn’t insecure the way her father and Kashus talked about her and made her insecure. She was told who she could love what she should wear how she should eat and really she made no choices for herself. Kashus was wack from beginning to end. Both families were apart of a cartel/ mob. Kashus was more than happy to marry into the Iris family. He wanted the elite that would come from being joint with Monroe, but he was not interested in Monroe at all. He was a fuck boy.
After in Monroe to consider surgery, she meets Dr. London . He can tell her soon to be husband ain’t shit. Dr. London put on the Cape and becomes Monroe’s bodyguard. He basically kidnaps her and encourages her to find herself.
This story had a ton of potential, but was extremely rushed. The author missed several opportunities to develop Monroe, discovering her self, life after her father passed away and Kashus dealing with the consequences of his actions. The climax of the story just fell flat for me with more character growth and more on paper developments. This could’ve been a 4 star book.
Yikes! I was super excited to read a mafia romance but this book was a disappointment & took me more than 2 months to finish. The writing felt choppy and occasionally disconnected.
I think I expected the FMC to really come into her own independent of the MMC and she didn't. From the beginning to the end, her self worth is very male centered and I was not into it.
I liked this one. I LOVED London. But Monroe needed to grow a backbone. Seriously. If the author had given her even one scene where she stood up for herself, I would have absolutely loved this book. But... it was still good because London was everything. Happy reading!
My Protector, Safe space, My Bodyguard…….. Monroe never had freedom. Freedom to live, love or experience life on her terms but was broken by the tradition of the mafia standards that held women captive until she met Roe…… @Author Blossom I loved how Ro gave her the opportunity to flee and show her how to live herself and be what she needed when she needed it the most!!! He definitely provided the space to be in her soft girl era!!!
This was a cute little quick read for me. I liked it. I’ve been trying to get into reading more black authors and this was a good start for me. The plot felt a bit rushed but nothing too overly drastic. I liked it.
➸ ∞/5 stars “May you one day fall in love with someone who never gets tired of saving you from yourself and others.”
Oh baby what am I supposed to do NOW!?!! These characters became my family and still feel like my family. From the very first chapter I was hooked because of the sheer audacity that came from Monroe’s father, Kashus, and the company he liked to keep in his corner. Monroe’s ex-fiance Kashus is the literal definition of a pile of dog sh*t! But London was totally a man sent from the heavens the way he acted as soon as he met Monroe. Letting her never talk down on herself in his presence was so heartful.
My favorite part of romance books is where the male main character has money and SPENDS it on her in a meaningful way. SPOILER:
MAN CREATED A WHOLE LIBRARY FOR HER!!! COME ON NOW!
I love drama (especially when it has nothing to do with my real life) and this book gave me drama baby! In the last few chapters it felt like my heart had fallen out of my butt with how scared I got.
A Blossom you now have a lifelong reader after reading this.
How is this doctor who was the son of a mob boss, and yet he outsmarted them all. Dr. London was a plastic surgeon,a kidnapper, and a fiancee' stealer. He would become the woman he called Chocolates bodyguard. That man can guard me any day.
A nice quick read. Not too much angst, even though it was about a mafia princess. I loved the healing theme and all of the affirmations London spoke to Monroe.
This book was decent. It was just not the book for me. I feel like there could’ve been more development of the characters and the scenes. I did like Dr. London‘s character. He was very sweet and exactly what Monroe needed. It was weird that she trusted him so easily after she just met him but whatever. The climax and ending just felt rushed. I am not an urban fiction girly so don’t come for me, but this was just not it for me. I just felt like there could’ve been more.
Heal me?... I'm only giving this book a 3 star because for effort. FL was someone that was mended into being what other people wanted, the few moments she made decisions I really questioned them(I know she didn't have much of a choice), the most annoying was crying over her piece of shit father, like huhn??!! All I will say is that Royale London got the job done.
This book has potential. Loved the arranged marriage aspect of the book and how loving yourself and taking time for yourself was emphasized. However, this book could’ve been so much better. A rushed storyline and a lack of character and plot development made it fall flat. Also, after the fiancé was found everything just seemed so anticlimactic. All that build up for nothing to happen
NTMA really impressed me! Mafia, tr@shy men, unprotected women, & lots of drama, pulled me all the way in. But I was kept by the good doctor! 😝 Dis man is a dream. I love how descriptive this author was throughout the story. I felt like I could see it all. Great read & highly recommended. On to book 2! 💛💚💜
I finally picked up the Bodyguard series, and I enjoyed this first book in the series. I liked both Dr. Royale and Monroe. This was a very quick read, and coupled with the spicy scenes and plot, I think most will enjoy it.
This book was just OK!! It is a quick read if that is what you are looking for.
However, I was not fond of the portrayal of the black alpha male as a gangster. I understood the author's attempt to portray Dr. London, as someone who was raised in a gangster environment, can break away from that path and find success in a legitimate business. Yet, this portrayal fell short as the character still retained his hood mentality despite holding a medical degree.
It seemed the author's message was that you could take the boy out of the hood, but you couldn't remove the hood from the boy. Dr. London came off as a rather one-dimensional character. The author's imagery was vivid, allowing me to envision the tall, handsome, well-built doctor, but it also evoked memories of a seductive gangster I was cautioned to avoid in my youth.
In Monroe's case, she was a spoiled gangster princess who didn't know any better then the lifestyle she was raised in which led her to be self conscious, low self-esteem and no goals in life for herself other than to make her father and husband happy and bring more sons into this world so this lifestyle can continue to be passed down to the next generation.
This was Monroe life until she encountered Dr. London, who empowered her to recognize her inner beauty and understand that beauty transcends physical appearance. This aspect of the book was appealing to me, showcasing the journey of self-empowerment and self-acceptance. Monroe's character did exhibit growth throughout the story.
I believe the authors might have been able to grasp me better if she slowed down telling their story it was to fast paced. The narrative felt rushed, possibly due to its length of only 185 pages. Given more room to explore the characters, this book could have delved into numerous possibilities for character development, life lessons, new beginnings, and historical significance. The supporting characters also hinted at untapped potential to share their stories.
For readers seeking a quick summer read featuring elements of gangster culture and romance, this book may suffice. However, those anticipating deeply provocative sexual content may find it lacking in that regard. I award this book 2.5 stars, acknowledging the potential of the emerging author. With more room to develop her characters and allow them to unfold their stories, she could potentially elevate her status to a 3-star author.
By the time I hit chapter 5 I was actually sick of the mars bar I was snacking on. Simply from how many times "chocolate" was used to describe skin. Actually, all descriptions of chocolate skin extracted could add to 3 pages easily. Skin tones in general seem to have too much stage time. Now, I am not asking for characters in the book to have perfect grammar, but lets be a little realistic shall we. I stopped multiple times to try and insert some of the speech patterns in day to day life and lets just say its a rocket that failed to launch
This book had potential but never quite hit the peak the author wanted it to. The 2 stars are simply because after a few tries I could see where the author was heading with it.
This novel offered an enjoyable and engaging experience, with compelling characters and a solid narrative foundation. The central plot was intriguing, and the premise held significant promise. However, I found that the book would have benefitted from deeper exploration and richer detail. While the structure was sound, the story often felt vague, leaving key elements underdeveloped. For instance, the passing of a parent was mentioned but lacked sufficient explanation, and the transition of the family business was alluded to without clarifying who would take over. These gaps in detail diminished the overall impact of the story. With more robust character development and greater clarity on these pivotal points, the book could have reached its full potential.
This was a nice little urban romance Monroe was was in an arranged engagement and she was miserable because her man had 2 baby mamas that he was cheating on her with and he was trying to get her to get her body done and she actually ran off with the doctor, dr london, to put it simply hahaha. This was very short and sweet, nothing crazy but this man Royale, was amazing frrrrr.

I finished it but I didn’t like it. I felt like this was a creative writing assignment for a middle schooler. The first time he goes to “rescue” her he eats her out but when he takes her out the country he wants to slow down on Sex? Sir!!! There are way better arranged marriage stories out there my god.

DNF at 14%, the book was not worth finishing. Punctuation and grammar was very off putting as well as the entire plot. I just didn’t like it and couldn’t relate to any of the characters
This was an interesting story and it kept my attention from beginning to end. I hated how Monroe’s father treated her like she was less than and tried to marry her off to someone who wouldn’t love and respect her. It was hard reading about his antiquated views on a woman’s place and seeing him allow his daughter to be disrespected. In the end, her father seemed to get what he deserved as did her demented, selfish, heartless and disrespectful ex-fiancé.
What I loved most about this book was the way that Dr. London affirmed Monroe from the beginning and spoke life into her and encouraged her to find herself and what she wanted versus what she was told she would need or was supposed to do. Dr. London was all in from hello and gave Monroe an out when their paths crossed again. I loved his friendship with Meechie and how Meechie was by his side through whatever. I also loved that Monroe was able to find a friend in Contessa and London’s aunt and cousin.
This was not your typical arranged marriage story and it could make it hard to get through, but Dr. London made up for all the hard parts with how he loved on Monroe. I would rate this story a 3.75/5 stars.
