please note that the trigger warnings and topes/themes may contain spoilers I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. HEA: yes POV: multi 1st person POV spice: several open-door spicy scenes TWs: cheating, divorce, slut shaming, narcissism, homophobia, death of a parent (recounted) standalone: book 1 of The Thirst Trap series final thoughts: this was such a cute, quick, and spicy read. I love the friends-to-lovers and neighbors-to-lovers tropes with all the angst and pining. I loved the meet-cute between two of the MCs, the female friendships, the sweetness of Tom, and the angst that Jack brings. The characters are later in life which takes away most of the will-they-won’t-they love triangle drama, but adds new twists with workplace needs and nerves from past relationships.

I had so much fun reading this debut by Kenzie Quivers! I love a good why choose and this one was soo nice!
Quivers had me hooked from the start of the book, I liked how she put up the storyline and how they got into the threesome. Cassidy being a spicy romance author wants to research how it works having a threesome with two men for her new book. From there we go on a adventure with Cassidy, Tom and Jack.
I loved that Kenzie made the book a dual-POV between all three main characters, you'll get so much more background and thoughts on everything when reading from more views. The development between the main characters was good, and the banter between them was hilarious, I had so much fun reading this book!
Thank you Kenzie Quivers for this ARC to read and review.
𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝔹𝕖𝕤𝕥 ℕ𝕦𝕞𝕓𝕖𝕣 is the debut novel of 𝕂𝕖𝕟𝕫𝕚𝕖 ℚ𝕦𝕚𝕧𝕖𝕣𝕤. It follows the lives of Cassidy, a newly-filed divorcee who is a spicy romance author in need of some real-life, hands-on research for her latest book. Jack, the cheeky neighbour who makes a backwards baseball cap look sexy. And Tom, the dirty talking bartender who catches Cassidy's eye.. as well as Jack's FWB. What will happen when the guys proposition Cassidy, offering her everything she is in search of and more.
Let me tell you, this book is utter perfection in written form! There is not enough words in existence to describe how in love I am with this story and its characters. There is not a single thing that I disliked. There was no other person drama, no miscommunication, no bullshit. The writing style is incredible and I just couldn't put it down. I was gripped from the first page and felt slightly heartbroken at the last. I just didn't want it to end. Cassidy, Jack and Tom's dynamic is electric, and how they all offer strong and different attributes to their relationship to make it better is just chefs kiss👌🏼.
The only thing that shocked me was Jack and Tom. Here was me thinking that Tom has the filthy mouth to make your jaw drop when he says: "𝓢𝓾𝓬𝓱 𝓪 𝓰𝓸𝓸𝓭 𝓰𝓲𝓻𝓵, 𝓽𝓪𝓴𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓬𝓪𝓻𝓮 𝓸𝓯 𝓫𝓸𝓽𝓱 𝓸𝓯 𝓾𝓼, 𝓫𝓾𝓽 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓷𝓮𝓮𝓭 𝓼𝓸𝓶𝓮 𝓽𝓸𝓸 𝓫𝓪𝓫𝔂, 𝓭𝓸𝓷'𝓽 𝔂𝓸𝓾?" And then to have Jack saying: "𝓕𝓾𝓬𝓴, 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓵𝓸𝓸𝓴 𝓭𝓮𝓵𝓲𝓰𝓱𝓽𝓯𝓾𝓵 𝔀𝓱𝓮𝓷 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓬𝓸𝓶𝓮, 𝓒𝓪𝓼𝓼𝓲𝓭𝔂." "𝓨𝓸𝓾'𝓻𝓮 𝓲𝓷 𝓬𝓱𝓪𝓻𝓰𝓮," 𝓘 𝓽𝓮𝓵𝓵 𝓱𝓮𝓻. "𝓨𝓸𝓾 𝓽𝓮𝓵𝓵 𝓶𝓮 𝔀𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝔀𝓪𝓷𝓽. 𝓘'𝓶 𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓮 𝓯𝓸𝓻 𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓹𝓵𝓮𝓪𝓼𝓾𝓻𝓮, 𝓒𝓪𝓼𝓼." 𝓘 𝓹𝓪𝓽 𝓶𝔂 𝓬𝓱𝓲𝓷 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓰𝓻𝓲𝓷. "𝓒𝓸𝓶𝓮 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓽𝓪𝓴𝓮 𝓪 𝓼𝓮𝓪𝓽, 𝓹𝓻𝓲𝓷𝓬𝓮𝓼𝓼." "𝓐𝔀, 𝓭𝓸𝓵𝓵, 𝓘 𝔀𝓪𝓷𝓽 𝓽𝓸 𝓭𝓸 𝓹𝓵𝓮𝓷𝓽𝔂 𝓸𝓯 𝓯𝓲𝓵𝓽𝓱𝔂, 𝓭𝓲𝓻𝓽𝔂 𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓰𝓼 𝓽𝓸 𝔂𝓸𝓾. 𝓘 𝔀𝓪𝓷𝓽 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓽𝓸 𝓱𝓪𝓿𝓮 𝓽𝓻𝓸𝓾𝓫𝓵𝓮 𝓵𝓸𝓸𝓴𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓶𝓮 𝓲𝓷 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓮𝔂𝓮 𝓪𝓯𝓽𝓮𝓻𝔀𝓪𝓻𝓭𝓼. Now, I would say that they both have filthy mouths... go Cassidy!
Everyone should get their hands on The Best Number on 6th June. Mark your calendars. You won't regret it.
I love a good why choose romance, and this one didn’t disappoint! I finished it in one day- I had such a hard time putting it down!
The characters and their relationships are so well written and likeable. I like that each of the three main characters had something they individually brought to the relationship, their personalities meshed so well together despite being so different and I really enjoyed that there was chapters written from each characters perspective- that’s a great way to really see into their head and their thoughts throughout the story, it really added a layer of vulnerability and relatability to them all. The spice was fantastic and well written. The premise of researching to better the main female characters writing really started out hot and just kept getting better as the book went.
3.5/5 ⭐️ 4/5 🌶️ - Why choose (MMF) - Friends to lovers - Neighbours - Author FMC - Brat X alpha MMC’s
I really enjoyed reading this. I adore my why choose books and this one was a great one. I loved how organically they became a throuple. Jack and Tom were already engaged in a casual relationship that was unknowingly exclusive and then in came Cass, Jack’s new neighbour, who fit in with them perfectly. After they all agree to a one off threesome to help Cass write her book, they realise one time isn’t enough.
My favourite character was definitely Tom. He is so attentive, caring, protective, understanding, and alpha in the bedroom *swoon*. Jack is a brat and he was battling his feelings because of a past bad relationship. Cass is an author looking for inspiration for her new book but instead finds two men, one being her friend Jack and Tom the attractive bartender, who will be her happy ever after.
I loved the connection between Tom and Jack and wished that there were more scenes with just two of them. The spice was great and it didn’t overtake the plot of the story which I appreciated.
Congratulations to Kenzie for her debut novel. I cannot wait to read Mel’s book next in the series.
Well, this was such a good pallet cleanser for me. This fun , sweet MMF was just what I needed. Cass, Jack and Tom bring in the heat and sweet and am here for that mix. Loved reading the best number, can't wait for the next in this series .
This was a good spicy read. The characters all played out perfect, and the storyline kept me reading. I did feel that it was a little lengthy and maybe some extra filler that possibly wasn’t needed, overall good read!
I was invested from the first chapter!! If you love why choose MMF then run don’t walk!! I love Cassie for these 2 guys and Jack has the brattiness down to an art. Tom is so attentive and laid back. I couldn’t decide which guy I loved more and I loved their dynamic together! I cannot wait for Mel’s story and whatever else Kenzie does 🖤
I devoured this book so fast! Some of the time jumps kinda threw me off and I would’ve liked to see a little more character development, but a really good story overall! I loved all of the characters & can’t wait to read the next!
This book follows the lives of Cassidy, a newly-filed divorcee who is a spicy romance author . Jack, the cheeky neighbor and Tom, the dirty talking bartender who catches Cassidy's eye.. as well as Jack's FWB. They both offer to help her with her research for her new book which is about threesome with 2 guys.
Let me tell you, I could not put this book down 🥵🥵🥵in love the characters and how everything happens and unravels. There is not a single thing that I disliked. I was hooked from the first page and felt slightly sad at the last page because it ended.I just didn't want it to end. All three of the MC have an amazing connection with each other. This book is amazing and a must read.
One of my favorite quotes was: Such a good girl, taking care of both of us,but you need some too baby, don’t you? That had me like omg 🥵
Everyone should definitely get their hands on The Best Number on 6th June. You will not regret it.
A few weeks ago, I discovered a new author, Kenzie Quivers. After reading a few snippets of her forthcoming novel on her Instagram account, I was immediately intrigued and eager to find out more about her book. So, when she put out a call for ARC readers, I didn’t hesitate and signed up. And so, I had the chance to discover her story, with the promise of writing an honest review after reading it, which is now done.
Cassidy is a writer who has just moved into a new flat after leaving her husband. One night she goes to a bar with her friend Mel, who has also just been through a break-up. She meets Tom, the tattooed bar owner, who saves her from a wardrobe malfunction. Shortly afterwards, in the building where she now lives, she meets her new neighbour, Jack, in good company in the corridor leading to their flats. To her surprise, that company is none other than Tom, the bar owner. Could it be a pleasant twist of fate that will help her in her research for the new novel she is writing?
The Best Number is a very good debut novel. As a lover of ménage and why-choose romances, I had a great time reading it and discovering the story of Cassidy, Jack and Tom. These three characters are very endearing. We discover them through their shared history and the scars of their respective pasts. In addition, the level of spice in this novel is ‘very hot’ and we soon realise that the arrangement that the three protagonists have together is going to be a great source of inspiration for Cassidy as she writes her next book 🥵
If I had to make a few criticisms, it would be that the story sometimes seems a bit rushed, and you can get the impression that you’re missing bits of information. Although I am sometimes guilty of complaining that the story drags on, I wouldn’t have minded having a few dozen extra pages to learn more about each of the characters.
Nevertheless, I’ll say it again: this book is a very good debut novel, and I will definitely read the second story in The Thirst Trap series, which will follow Cassidy’s friend Mel.
In the meantime, from 6th June, I highly recommend you discover The Best Number where the Eiffel Tower you will read about is not a Parisian monument 😜

Cassidy (FMC) is a romance author who put out an ad on a kink app for 2 guys to help her with some... practicals for the throuple romance she's currently writing but, between her neighbour, Jack (MMC), and the man she met in the bar, Tom (MMC) who turns out to be Jack's fwb, she doesn't need to look at the responses
I enjoyed the premise of this book but wasn't 100% there on the execution; this is a debut book and it reads like one. There was a lot of telling and not showing. Sometimes it read as if it was written in 3rd person because there was a lot of one character describing a play by play of what the others were doing and I think chapters like this could have benefitted from a switch of POV. Throughout, there was a lot of text in italics to highlight the characters thoughts but it started to come across as weird a long with the constant use of the word "rump" instead of ass or literally anything else, lol. There were also a few time jumps which could be somewhat disorienting.
The characters came across as somewhat one dimensional and I wish we got more from them. It ended up being more fast pace than I expected in the beginning but I was excited to see where it went. There were definitely scenes I liked and I thought there was good polyam rep as the characters made it a point to also be together as pairs and not just a group which hasn't been common in the why choose books I've read.

Romance Author decides she needs some inspiration for her newest novel
Cassidy finds herself in the process of divorcing her cheating husband while also needing to write her newest romance book. She is struggling with this one as it is to be her first MMF story and she has no idea where to go. She gets a crazy idea that she will post an advert on a dating website to get a bi male couple to join her in some research.
Her neighbor Jack has become a great friend to her and says he will help her vet the men she wants to use for this little experiment. However, he has another idea that might be even better. Will his attraction to her and her attraction to his latest hookup go for the idea he has in his head?
Cass met Tom at the Thirst Trap, a local bar, when she was out celebrating with her friend. She was immediately attracted to him and was almost willing to proposition him. Unfortunately she has a wardrobe malfunction that least to a new nickname and she makes her escape. of course the next time she sees Tom he is making out with her sexy neighbor Jack.
With the terms of the experiment set up will Cassidy get the material she needs for her book? Will she be okay with just one night of passion? As the three of them come together they discover how much their past has colored their vision of relationships and are forced to see everything in a different light.
Come and find out why three really is the best number with Cass, Tom & Jack.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3.5/3 🌶🌶🌶 -Why Choose -MMF -Contemporary -HEA -British AF
Cassidy is a recently separated smut writer looking for real-life inspiration for her next book. Tom is the hot bartender Cassidy meets while out with her best friend Mel, who is also recently separated. Jack is Cassidy's neighbor she becomes fast friends with, who happens to be casually dating Tom.
I love smut, and I love why I choose, but I personally prefer darker themes where the rising and falling action of the book seems more intense than this book provided. If you're new to why choose, especially coming from the MF contemporary romance community, this may very well be the book for you!
I wanted to love it, but it felt like there was something missing. I would have liked to see the characters fleshed out more. It was all pretty instant as the initial proposition happens in only chapter two, and they all get together in chapter four. It's 264 pages of smut and them working out to how to be a throuple which definitely had it's up and downs. Overall, it is a decent debut with more to come in the future.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
When I saw the first book in this series was an MMF, one of my favourite tropes, I knew I needed to read it. I was not disappointed. I enjoyed this book so much, exactly what I wanted!
So we meet our romance writer, FMC Cassidy, as she is trying to move forward whilst going through a divorce. During a night out, she briefly meets bar manager Tom, and she feels they might have had a connection, but it turns out he is in a friends with benefits situation with her neighbour Jack. She and Jack become good friends, though, and she confides in him that she is looking to research a threesome situation with two males for her next book. Jack swiftly offers himself and Tom for the job. The story follows the 3 of them as they navigate this situation and their own life situations.
I really enjoyed this story and could have easily carried on reading about the three of them. The spice was hot and plentiful but didn’t override the story. It was well written and made part of the story nicely. I liked how the story played out and how they figured it all out, eventually. I really enjoyed Kenzie's writing, too. It flowed well and was easy to read.
I am excited to read the other books in the series!
I really enjoyed this book. It was nice to see how friends became lovers but also ended up including another into the mix. I love being able to see relationships develop and even though 2 were friends before, or friends-with-benefits, they weren't quite relationship status ready. I read it super quickly because I really wanted to know what happened each character throughout the book. I wish there was more focus on how the experiences the three of them went through was able to be incorporated into Cassidy's books, since that's what she was using the other two for originally, but I was really happy to see that the whole thing developed into personal relationships instead of just trying stuff out only to write them into her stories.
Overall I was really happy with this book and would definitely recommend. I cannot wait to read the next one!
This was a unique storyline as the female lead is a romance author who is writing her own novel about a threesome. She meets her new neighbour who has an attract friends with benefits situation going on. The two men offer to be her “helpers/guides” when she is looking for experience in a threesome situation so she can write about it. I could tell from the beginning that there was great chemistry between all of them. For the book being about more than 2 people sleeping together there was a lot more to it. It showed the completion of how to navigate a throuple relationship. The emotions were rolling when Jack went to work in America and left the others to figure out life for themselves without him. The HEA was much needed after the broken hearted chapters.
This was a debut novel for this author and I really enjoyed this contemporary MFF romance read. It made a nice change to read something where the main characters are actual adults and going through normal life challenges such as divorce and finding love after. This is a story about the FMC who is a spicy romance author and is looking for a way to experiment to write her next novel - I mean it's all in the name of research right 😂 but what happens when feelings start getting involved in what should be a one time thing? I loved the banter between the characters (also that we got to see text messages from their group chat) and how their relationship starts from friends to lovers and just grows! I can't wait to see what comes next on this authors journey 😊
The best number is full of banter, dry humour, and some very juicy fun time. The dedication sets the tone “This one’s for you, if you’ve ever wanted to experience the Eiffel Tower (not the one is Paris )” while the spice is spot on it’s not just spice without a story.
I really enjoy how they come to be together, it’s not your typical thrupple situation. I won’t spoil it for you. Tom is a caretaker and so sweet, Jack is deliciously flirtatious and Cassidy is a woman asking for what she wants and not being ashamed.
This was worth the read and I’d love to read more if a series were to develop. *Hint hint* 😉
I’m normally an enemies to lovers girl but this book has really got me eating up the friends to lovers trope! Why choose MMF with a HEA!
I just loved the dynamic of all 3 main characters and how their story evolved! Cassidy is a smut writer and needs some real life inspiration to write her next book. Hello next door neighbour Jack and Tom, his friend with benefits, definitely not exclusive😜 The way I ate this book up in 2 reading sessions because I was so keen to see how it unfolded! It had you feeling all the feels And trust me - you’ll be wanting to go to the Eiffel Tower ;)
The best number is Kenzie Quivers debut novel and the first book in the Thirst Trap series. It follows the lives of Cassidy, Jack and Tom as they embark on a new and exciting relationship together. Author Cass, is having a bit of a struggle writing her new book when her new neighbour Jack and his partner Tom offer to provide some inspiration and real life experience that she can draw from. Little does she know that this 'one off' will become so important in her life. Kenzie gives us a spice-filled, easy read novel, with a beautiful storyline that deviates from society's norms. Well worth a read!
Cassidy is going through a divorce when her friend and her decides to go out one night for drinks she gets feeing herself and splits her skirt and the hot bar tender helps her with a jacket so the whole club won’t she her goodies. Next morning she is comes home to see her neighbor Jack has company it is the hot bar tender from the club. Jack and Cassidy hang out all the time and soon Tom joins them. Cassidy is writing a book about a threesome and needs some real life experience Jack suggests him and Tom help her out and from then on a relationship blooms.
I loved this book! It’s a fun, friends-to-lovers, MMF why-choose. I love the dynamic between Tom and Jack and the way they brought Cassidy in and made sure she felt cherished and included. At the same time, Cassidy put a priority on the guys’ connection that was already there. Each character brought a unique personality to the relationship that complimented the others perfectly. The spicy scenes were full of passion and perfectly written. I can’t believe this is Kenzie’s first published novel and I can’t wait to read more from her!
This is a great story of friends to lovers. After going through a divorce, Cass moves across the hall from Jack. She knows he’s in a casual relationship with the hot bartender she met. Becoming friends with Jack she tells him she’s looking for inspiration for her new smutty novel about throuples, he volunteers him and Tom to show her a few things. It’s an emotional ride, you really get a feel for how the characters are thinking and feeling. I love how it turned out and look forward to reading more from Kenzie Quivers.
This book was such a palette cleanser for me! This was such a cute book! I loved Tom and how he has this need to take care of both Jack and Cass. He was so sweet but also had a mouth on him *wink wink* Cass was just a little firecracker! I loved how she knew what she wanted and (after debating with herself) took it! And then our precious little Jack. Jack had struggles within himself that didn’t allow him to commit. Always pushing people away. He just needed to find the right person, or people. Overall loved the character dynamics and the storyline of this book!!
Overall, I enjoyed this story a lot. A good balance of spice and plot. Their romance was really sweet. Even with being MMF, the scenes were fairly vanilla but well written (though the epilogue gave us some extra goodness).
I would have loved to see more MM (especially because they were the pre-existing situationship), and there was a couple times a good smutty scene was set up then left us hanging. Also how their back stories were woven in felt a bit forced.
Great debut for Quivers - looking forward to seeing how she grows as an author! Really hoping the next book features Abby.🤞🏻
What a good story !!! This was my first book from Kenzie. However, I'm definitely interested in reading more of her work. I fell in love with Jack, Cassidy, and Tom. The connection, love, and respect that those 3 have for each other were inspiring.
I love seeing the progress of their relationship and how each of them grew and better themselves. Spicy level 5 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶, even my husband ( does not care to read), got hooked next to me for a whole chapter, and got sad when I put the kindle down 🤣.
I was ready to keep following their story 😇 Definitely recommended this read. 👌
Wow! “The Best Number” by Kenzie Quivers gets hot and heavy, I was up all hours of the night reading. Cassidy, Tom and Jack are something else, and the story that is told was different than what I was expecting but in a good way. This moves at a good pace the never left you bored. If you are into romance and wanting something different this is a must read! I am looking forward to the next book.
Overall, “The Best Number” by Kenzie Quivers. You will love the plot the characters and most of all will end up wanting to read another book by Kenzie.
Cassidy is a recently divorced romance author who is looking to do some real hands on research about threesomes for her new book. Her neighbor offers to help her out and next thing they know it’s a regular thing in a comfy throuple but can they stay that way?
Such a fun story!! The poly representation was done so well, especially them navigating the jealousy and dynamics. Great spice! It was impressive that you could get almost non stop spice that still had plot, a pretty rare combination and best of all worlds. All books should be set up like this one.
This is an MMF novel and, as expected, was pretty spicy. What I didn’t expect was how sweet it was overall. I liked that the characters genuinely cared for each other, and expressed that to each other. I also really liked that this depicted some real-life struggles that people entering a throuple might have. They deal with jealousy, scheduling issues, awkwardness…it was very refreshing to see some of the struggles, rather than just reading a book that was all sex. Overall, a really good, smutty novel with a good amount of plot and character development. Really enjoyed.
