HUNT Trilogy #1

House of Clowns

Rate this book
They called it the House of Clowns, but it felt more like a prison to me. A place where people were forced into roles they never chose, a refuge for outcasts with nowhere else to go. It was made for the amusement of others, but never for the happiness of those trapped inside. Slowly, it was draining me—stripping away not just my joy, but the core of who I once was. If I could remember anything from before this place, maybe I'd hold onto it. But all I know now is this—a life of smeared colors, an endless performance for an invisible audience.

They say what doesn't break you makes you stronger. But that's a lie. It doesn't build you up; it wears you down, piece by piece until all that's left is the mask you wear.

***

I've told myself over and over that people will always try to tear you down. It's a reflex—they crush your hopes because they can't bear to see you rise above them. They want you in the shadows so they feel bigger and more secure. How I despise them.

And they call me a clown? No, the real clowns are the ones who wear fake smiles and pretend everything's perfect in their little worlds. It's all a joke—a joke that stops being funny when their world falls apart. And when it does, they'll drag you down with them, taking whatever's left of your smile.

Let me start by praising the author on what she did with book's cover and interior. The graphics were vivid and I really liked them.

Could someone please explain to me how a writer can make you want to fight at the start of a book, be in utter heartbreak in the middle, and be a little lost at the end?

Tell me, how does someone write a novel about clowns and create such a fantastic romance thriller story?

All these great experiences take place in less than 200 pages.

Let me leave this here for ya’ll:

‘She chuckled, then giggled, her palm covering her lips. "Sorry, Mom, I've fallen in love with a clown."
This book was confusing in the best way.
It was so hot, sweet, unhinged, gory, loving, spicy, allllll the things, all at the same time, and that made me go, huh???? 🤔
😂
This book is so good!
Joker 🥹 ilysm. I want to keep you.
“I don't want to live in a present without you."
With how much I LOVE circus smut you would think that one particular scene towards the end wouldn’t haven surprised me, like, what he uses seems like it should be something anyone would think to do first with circus smexy time, but I haven’t read any circus schmexy scenes with this particular thing done, and I was soooo pleasantly surprised by it, like after you read it you are going to be like “holy crap that seems like something that would be so easy to do at the circus” but it just isn’t something I have read at all! Lol I love when authors can do that!! Take something so small and make it something that really makes you think lol.
Pay attention when reading this book, it’s short but it has soooo much plot, and it has a lot of twists and turns to keep track of.
It really is amazing and I highly recommended it!
"You can run all you want," he whispered, the timbre of his voice low, each word tinged with the dark, wry humor. "But you know I'll always find you."

"She was the only thing that made me whole, the thing that made me more than a clown. To her, I was hers, the broken pieces and all."

Speaking of broken pieces, that is all that was left of me after finishing this book. A eM has this beautiful talent of writing the most tragic, thrilling, and captivating stories that keep you enthralled to the very end and House of Clowns is no exception. Now, don't let the clown aspect of this one keep you from picking it up - the relationship that grows between Rio and Chiara is sooo worth reading about a few clowns. Both of the main characters have their own tragic backstories and the more you learn about each throughout the story, the more you can feel that they were always meant to find one another. This story is full of twists and secrets that will make it extremely difficult to put this book down. This is not a super spicy read, in my opinion, but the spice that is included is fantastic. You also may never look at red balloons the same way again. Definitely make sure to add this one to your TBR!

Firstly, I Just Want To Say I Received This ARC Copy This Morning And As Soon As I Picked It Up I Couldn't Put It Down.

It Wasn't What I Was Expecting AT ALL It Were Even Better! The Ending Totally Blew Me Away As It Wasn't Predictable In The Slightest! In Fact I Even Shed A Few Tears!

This Book Is Currently On Pre Order For Release 13th November. I Can Personally Recommend This Book As It's Not What You're Expecting At All.

The Scene Building Was Minimal But I Felt Like I Had Been Transported Into This Dark, Mysterious, Creepy Big Top Tent.

The Character Development Was Immense And Rio Aka Joker Is On A Different Level BUT Likeable... If That Makes Any Sense lol.
Chiara And Rio Make This Book And Keep You Wanting To Read More. You Just Need To Know...

Mom, I'm in love with a clown.

Listen to me right now. This book is amazing. It isn't your typical dark romance that is mostly romance and secondarily plot. Quite the opposite. So much amazing plot, so much beautiful character development and just the right touches of dirty in just the right places. I couldn't have enjoyed this more. Except, you know, for when it made me cry.

WOW! Just WOW! This book is tragic and perfect in all the ways. The book is full of twists, secrets, and darkness.

The story between Rio and Chiara was written so well. Both have tragic backgrounds and find some comfort within each other. Their connection was almost instant and you could feel it.

The boom will have you so mad, in tears, and holding your breath wondering what will happen next.

This book totally blew me away! It was not what I was expecting… I was unable to put this book down.
A eM has the ability to bring even the coldest of hearts to tears.

A tale full of mystery and intrigue, a rollercoaster ride right from the beginning all the way to the end.

This will have you guessing/questioning and asking yourself what the hell is going on! As we follow our main characters, Rio and Chiara. Their relationship is passionate and will pull at your heartstrings as their narrative unfolds and secrets become revealed. A wonderful and dark world filled with mystery!

A dark intriguing storyline, a fantastic psychological thriller/horror with all the bells and whistles…

This is not what you expect. It will leave you dumbfounded. A truly superb storyline with a fantastic narrative and characters that will pull at your heartstrings!

Pure brilliance by A eM. As always, she has crafted a well constructed and delicately weaved plot line that is out of this world! Twist and turns are abundant and well placed.
Fantastic and beautifully written main characters along with their heartbreaking back stories. We are left on a cliff, and I cannot wait to find out where this uniquely talented author will take us next.

Quotes:
“Roses have thorns, darling,” he said softly, low and moderate. “Nothing perfect is beautiful.”

"You're pathetic," he spat between strikes, his words like poison. "Just like your mother. Fat, stupid, useless."

I was a clown. I was a monster. I was something they loved to watch but would never dare to hold close.

That was just a roller coaster of a ride and it wasn’t even part of the circus 🤭

Chiara, her mind an enemy she has no control over, a drunk abusive father and younger brother she tries to protect, an older one who has fled the nest. Her life is one long trudge toward nothingness until she meets a clown, Rio. Rio, has also known only hardships all his life but the House of Clowns saved him, gave him a purpose. He met Chiara and the chemistry they share is beyond anything he’s felt before. Where will it lead them? Will their love be like a Shakespearean tragedy or can they control the narrative?

Soo, I finished this in one sitting, that’s how much this story hauled me in with intent (see what I did there 🤣) to figure out this mystery that slowly unfolds as you read, to leave your jaw hanging open at the end. Totally jumping into the next one 🤣

There is nothing better than two incredibly broken people finding each other and themselves. Joker (Rio) was so protective towards Ace (Chiara) from the very beginning. He knew nothing about her, about the hell she was living in, but he protected her like it was his lifes duty.
The chemistry between Ace and Joker was incredible. The character development between the two of them was written beautifully. The ending was definitely not what I was expecting so buckle up for that.

As always, your mental health matter so please read the triggers going into this🤍

What a trip, and I cannot wait for my ticket for the next installment in the Hunt Trilogy. Like many of A. eM.'s book, House of Clowns is a psychological thriller and readers will question if what they are reading is reality and what is lurking in the shadows. This entire book had me either holding my breath or sobbing, the plot line for Joker (Rio) and Ace (Chiara) is dark and doesn't hold back on the emotional punches. While your heart aches for the pain that the main characters face, there was something cathartic about the ending. Not that there was a happily ever after, but that sometimes that best we can do is taking one step at a time and holding onto the memories we cherish to make it through. This book takes place in the same universe as Shadow Duet and would recommend reading those books first. A. eM. creates a web with plot lines and ripple effects, which just adds to the complexity and nuances as readers work their way through her books.

Release date: November 13th
Book 1 of the Hunt trilogy

A eM knows how to write a heavy, gripping book that has such an eerie atmosphere, for such short books. I’m always left surprised by that fact. I feel like whenever I read one of her books, there’s a heavy fog that will be lifted at the last minute, and when that fog is indeed lifted, the readers are left heartbroken. House Of Clowns is, unsurprisingly, in that category. There’s just something so tangible about the atmosphere, it’s like I could taste the fog if I opened my mouth a little. It’s an amalgam of the storyline, the characters, the flashbacks. If you want a quick yet impactful read with late supernatural elements and a bit of confusion, A eM definitely has something for you, namely this book in particular.

Thanks so much to A eM for the arc🖤

I have always been a fan of clowns because they’re underrated and misunderstood. Rio, aka Joker in this book only cements my opinions on clowns.

In this book, we hear from both MCs, Joker & Ace, and we get a glimpse into what makes them broken. However, the beauty about broken things is the fact that something new can be created, and that’s what the author did with this book.

I felt a range of emotions from anger, to awe, to sadness. The ended left me speechless because talk about a twist! I see that the book is a part of a series, so I am hoping that the next book will give us a bit more insight on Chiara aka Ace maybe a few other characters.

I urge you to grab a copy & see why we will all fall for the clown.

‘And they call me a clown? No, the real clowns are the ones who wear fake smiles and pretend everything's perfect in their little worlds.’

This was not what I expected it to be. A rollercoaster of emotions - sadness, anger, disbelief to name a few. Chiara and Rio are both two broken people, who find their fit in each other.
A story steeped in loss, secrets & different family dynamics - it's an incredible read, but that ending! I genuinely gasped and still not sure if I forgive @iam_a_em - even though they did make me fall for a clown.

This emotional rollercoaster was not what I had imagined but it was written with perfection. This made me wanna cry and laugh and hope and feel hurt all throughout the book. Wonderful characters and narrations. Just loved it. Can't wait for more. And ofcourse definitely Recommended.

I liked this book, it might you cry though. It’s sad, touching and dark. There’s love for family and want for a better life. Your fmc is living at home with her abusive, drunk father and her little brother. She wants nothing more than to be able to leave and take her bother with her. Then one she takes her brother to the carnival and her world will never be the same.

5⭐️: I hardly give books 5 stars but this one deserves it! The way the author writes is elegantly beautiful and dark. Her writing style literally touches your soul! I wish I could quote her whole book because there were so many times I was like “damn, this is some deep stuff”. This is a quick read and will captivate you the moment you start reading it. I wouldn’t say this is like “mystery horror” but more of “gothic romance” (but this is just my opinion). The storyline is very unique and the meaning of clowns and other themes mentioned in the book makes you think about them on a darker and deeper level. Beautifully well done!

It is filled with soo soo much emotion, it quite literally broke my heart, there is no HEA here but it is a heart wrenching beautiful story that I cannot stop thinking about.

I grew so attached to both the MMC & FMC, both trying to find a world where they are accepted when their worlds collide and they end up finding love in a hopeless place.

Ah, how my damn heart broke alongside Ace.

A.EM has this uncanny talent for ripping your heart out, dragging it through glass, and then somehow stitching it back together in a way that makes it even more fragile and beautiful than before. Her stories are drenched in trauma, horror, pain—and love. Always love. And every single time, I fall harder. Her books are the very definition of “broken things can still be beautiful.”

Let me be clear: this book does not have a happy ending. I’m saying it now so no one comes for me. But gods, even without it, it’s still so beautiful, so haunting, so achingly raw—I’d relive every tear-stained page all over again.

Ace’s soul is lonely and fractured, and her home life? Shattered. Her father is pure poison, and her poor brother—my heart. I broke for them both.
And The Joker… oh, he’s just as broken, just as tortured. But you know that “I can fix him” energy? Yeah, it lives here. And he would die for her. This is that kind of story. The rare kind—the ride-or-die, soul-bonded, bleed-for-you kind—and it hurts. But you’ll love every second.

This book is a symphony of heartbreak, beauty, and unfiltered emotion. It’s a dark, emotional punch to the chest and I loved every breath-stealing moment of it.

If you want a story that makes you feel—deeply, violently, completely—this is it. I’d recommend this book to anyone who’s ever felt like the broken pieces might still be worth something.

Because this book will remind you: they are

This dark little novella absolutely destroyed me but I need more, and will read anything this babe blesses the world with.
Tragic, haunting, surprising, beautiful, and addictive.

“”Roses have thorns, darling,” he said softly, low and moderate. “Nothing perfect is beautiful””

“We are all scarred, secrets stitched across our skin in pieces of stories we’re not willing to share yet”

“Why is a clown expected to be smiling anyway?”

“At least clowns have the cover of a painted face, a mask to hide the chaos beneath”

Highly recommend!!
