Ryley Halliwell was betrayed by someone whom she thought she could trust. Left for dead in a city at the age of seventeen, she had to survive for the sake of her child. Now, seventeen years later, her life is about to be turned upside down, all because she agreed to work for the Orion Pack for the summer. Blake Orion is the alpha of his pack. When he caught a member stealing from one of his companies, he enlisted the help of a forensic accountant to follow the missing money. Little did he know that this little wolf would storm into his pack and make him feel something again. Something he hasn't felt since the night his mate died giving him their son. Seventeen years, he has been waiting for someone he never knew he need.
SYNOPSIS (of Duet): The story is set in a world where wolf shifters exist but hide themselves from humans. The FC, Ryley, is a luna wolf which is a special type of wolf gifted with healing abilities and hunted for her gifts. She was forced to run when her pack was attacked by the man she was in love with and her parents and pack killed. She has spent the past 17 years hiding and making a life for herself and her son (she found she was pregnant after she ran). The Duet covers how Ryley meets her fated mate; avoids being captured by the man who killed her pack; defeats a corrupt council; and overcomes other threats to her family.
Heat Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️/🍆🍆 The sex scenes are quite hot, vanilla and not too lengthy and the number of them increase through the Duet.
Whilst the main story is the meeting and mating of Ryley and Blake and how they defeat Ryley’s ex in Book 1, Book 2 then expands to cover Aspen meeting his fated mate and other threats that arise against the family. The writing is a bit clunky in places and there is a lot of repetition, for example, how many times can the FC complain about how she cannot stay with the MC because she is afraid that her enemies will find her? The Duet is also in need of some decent editing. Whilst in Book 1 the errors are just annoying, in Book 2 they impact the story with sentences failing to make sense or a consistent error by the author where she keeps referring to Channing’s wolf by the name of Aspen’s wolf. I would have given book 1 3 stars and book 2 2.5 stars.
There is a decent amount of back story that gives depth to the characters and a decent world building. The MCs are good, possessive alpha’s and the FC is a strong kick ass wolf (although unfortunately you don’t really see much of this). There seem to be about 4 different main stories running consecutively through the Duet with a backdrop of Ryley/Blake’s pairing and Aspen/Tessa’s pairing. Unfortunately this detracts from the enjoyment of the books as the stories all have holes in them, are rushed and don’t really work. The author should have just focussed on one main story and ensuring that it held up. ***SPOILER*** By example, there are references to Ryley’s ex’s father as being some evil mastermind but then this seems to fizzle out and he never actually appears or plays a part in the first story and then suddenly he’s gone. In fact, by the end of that story it is unclear whether the ex was initially truly bad or not or whether he was the mastermind or not. The 2 stories revolving around the council are not properly fleshed out. We are just told they are corrupt and evil (although their evil initially only seems to be related to the luna wolves) but there are no specific individuals behind anything until book 2 when suddenly an alpha is named part way through the book. The author uses several trite plot twists that come out of nowhere to seemingly add drama and action but don’t really work as a result. ***SPOILER *** An example of this being where Ryley is kidnapped by a new enemy (a situation that seems ridiculously easily resolved). It’s a shame as this could have been so much better than it was.
Overall I would not say these books are worth the money as the story really requires work and editing - especially book 2. I skimmed parts as I just lost interest as, especially in book 2, much of the stories didn’t hang together.
I've read a lot of werewolf/supernatural novels and this one is great. Love the characters, the plot keeps you on your toes, and the emotions the family dynamics is heartwarming
I have several problems with this book. Spoiler alert
First. Just in the beginning she fights with the beta and defeats him easily after that the other 3 times she is attacked by someone weaker than her. She is like a demsel in destress. It terrible. If she is week like that why she defeated the beta.
Second none of the fight scenes are describes. So much of the book is internal monologe about how much trauma she was in.
Next, the smut scenes as passes through fast with no details. Is like ohh there is heat, sex and done.
Another. She was running away from someone that killed her whole family and than she thinks living 5 hour away from him was enough. This is crazy
The alpha is ao unsure of himself all the time. And has no opinion about anything and just do whatever she says.
There is instalove and they are not even mates....
The book had good premisses but than just got terrible. I could not finished. Read just 60% of the book. But could not continue anymore. I really think ia have different tastes than everyone since reviews were so good.
In the past books with good reviews normally pleased me but in the last 2 years I have read so many books with good reviews that I hated...
I fell I can't trust reviews anymore. That makes me sad

Read it on a reading app - for a tremendous amount and...it was worth it ! The storyline could have ben fairly flat... I mean... I picked it up without too much considerations as a book about a lone wolf presumably rejected by her mate despite being pregnant. It's SO much more. It's about second chances, coming to terms if your past to build your future. Diane Doherty did a terrific job with the characters Riley and Blake have so much depth. It’s an absolute amazing story from cover to cover. It's witty, funny without it being too light. Love it, love it love it. Read it and couldn’t put it down.
This literary work captivated my attention from the outset, offering a compelling blend of action, drama, romantic elements, and unexpected twists. The narrative proved to be highly engaging, making it difficult to disengage from the reading experience. I highly recommend this literary piece as a must-read.
I'm undecided how I feel about this book parts of it where constantly repeating information. Sometimes it was too slow of a burn. I'm still wondering if they ever found out who else was stealing from Blake. But other than that I think the story was interesting a little fast at times and a little too slow at times.
This is a great story. The characters are very well matched. I love the way Reilly and the Alpha just fit. The logger the way hehe Alpha wants to protect his mate and family is beautiful. Reilly finds herself in mess after mess, that has her mate wanting to kill everyone. 10/10 can’t wait for book two to be finished.
