Dagger and Shadow Ninja is the first book in the Evolutionite Chronicles by Timothy P. Callahan and this book was not at all what I expected! Prepare to meet a couple of ninja brothers who help people and also deliver packages. This story starts off with a bang, hooks you in and pulls you along with one situation and then another as Tanaka and Daniel find themselves pulled into something that could change the present and future and the race is on to figure out who the bad guys really are and who are the real good guys. Dagger and Shadow Ninja is the first book that I have read by this author and it hooked me in from the beginning! It all starts off with an attack and subsequent murder of a young woman who, herself, had a heightened awareness of danger. Sadly, this awareness does nothing to save her life. What unfolds is just the tip of the iceberg of what is to come further on into the book. I find Tanaka and Daniel to be engaging and humorous as they work together. They act not just like brothers but as best friends as well. I like how the author builds this story. We're presented with characters and situations and the story quickly becomes a puzzle. Whom you think was a good guy is turned on its head and you're shown that...maybe they aren't the good guy and maybe the bad guy is just another victim. This book is full of twists and turns, and a few surprises sprinkled in here and there. I like how developed this world is. The people are well organized and know what to do in the event of an attack. I was expecting mayhem and panic, but the author shows me that there is control in the situations presented. I like that nothing is what it seems. It kept me engaged and eager to read more. This book does an excellent job blending sci-fi, time travel and a touch of fantasy together to create an engaging storyline that is hard to put down and before you know it...it's over! I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I couldn't get enough of this book! I absolutely enjoyed reading along with these characters and I look forward to reading more about them in the future.
Brothers Tanaka and Daniel are freelancers. They wear uniforms; one a white and the other a black ninja outfit, each with a sheathed katana.
Scott Lee, aka Charger, was released from prison for "good behavior". He immediately started killing innocent people.
Tanaka and Daniel have to find the Charger before the killer can check their client's name off his list of targets.
The case takes a twist when the Charger claims he's been framed. And the plot thickens when Tanaka and Daniel realize their client kept secrets from them.
Timothy Callahan's The Evolutionite Chronicles Book One: Dagger and Shadow Ninja is the first book in an exciting new series. It has everything the reader could want: humans with powers, time travel, and teleportation. It's intended for a young adult audience, but I think readers of all ages will enjoy the book.
This is a fun sci-fi, ninja, time travel romp. Reader definitely needs to be able to suspend their disbelief, but if you can do that, you're in for some fun.
Only real criticism is there were a few proofreading issues here and there.
Dagger and Shadow Ninja is the first book of The Evolutionite Chronicles. I will start off with the fact that I intend to read the next books in the series. The plot is interesting and complex. Even though it is for young readers, I found it mysterious enough for me to enjoy. The time travel was done well, the superpowers were cool, and the dialogue was done wonderfully. Yes, there were some errors here and there, but this did not take away from the pleasure of reading the novel. The characters, especially the brothers, were well-crafted and very interesting. Overall, I'm sure young readers would love this book, and adults who enjoy sci-fi and time travel - as well. I recommend it.
This was a fun little sci-fi book. As other reviewers have said, grab a snack and settle in because this book will keep you turning the pages. I thoroughly enjoyed it, honestly. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book in exchange for a free copy.
