The Accused confronts attorney Will Chambers with the terrifying temptation to avenge the brutal crime that shattered his past.

Enjoying a Cancún honeymoon with his wife, Fiona, Will is ambushed by two unexpected events: a terrorist kidnapping of a U.S. official...and the news that a link has been found to the previously unidentified murderer of Will’s first wife.

The kidnapping pulls the attorney into the case of Marine colonel Caleb Marlowe, who stands accused of the murder of civilians during a secret attempt to thwart the kidnapping.

Abandoned by the U.S. government, the colonel is ping-ponged to the International Criminal Court, with Will arguing his defense. When treachery drags Will and Marlowe toward vengeance, they must ask—Is forgiveness real?

Will Chambers learns a man, whose testimony is crucial to his latest trial, was actually part of the brutal murder of his late wife, Audra. Everything in him wants to show this man the kind of mercy he showed his wife, and advice from a wise older Christian to forgive feels nearly impossible.

Colonel Caleb Marlowe is part of an elite Marine task force who follow orders of retrieval, or to take out members of terrorist cells. Will Chambers is the colonel's choice for defense counsel regarding his latest mission where something went very wrong and innocent civilians were killed. Will is unaware that this trial will place him and his new wife in life-threatening danger.

Another page turner by Craig Parshall. I can’t say enough how this man can write. The book is full of trial and research detail, but Mr. Parshall has a way of bringing it down to this non-legal reader’s intellect so that it’s digestible. I imagine for those familiar with, or work with legal-speak this would be quite fun.

I love the way Will Chambers faith is part of every aspect of his work and life. Seeking Christian counsel on a very crucial part of his proceedings was wise and necessary.

Something I have to reason through, which was touched on in the book, was about how God views the job that the elite Marine group performs of taking out the bad guys. Is it murder or self (country) defense? The biblical story used in the book didn’t seem sufficient to justify it to me. But that puzzling portion doesn’t warrant a decrease in stars.

So another five stars for a job well done.

Have you heard of the Chambers of Justice series?

This is a new one for me. I think if you enjoy shows like Law & Order, or Grisham, or military type stuff, you'll find this book engaging from the get-go!

The Accused A novel by Craig Parshall is the third book in the Chambers of Justice series (3/5 I believe!). The first two books are The Resurrection File and Custody of the State. I haven't read them and I don't think you need to read them in order. This sits well as a stand alone read. You can bet we'll be looking for these at our bookstore!

It is a fast paced books and you'll find yourself submersed in murder, gunfire, mystery and turmoil. This is engrossing and action packed. Talk about hard core legal drama!

The underlying question that follows through the book is -- Is forgiveness real?

So, what's this book about?

Will Chambers is a lawyer and a good one at that, but life has changed since he's become a Christian. Recently married and old issues gets stirred up during his honeymoon. His new wife, Fiona and he are starting off this marriage on a the rocks due to the murder of this first wife. Can Will get over it? Or is he going to drag Fiona down with the issues he refuses to talk about?

To add to the fire, Will receives a call to be representation to Marine colonel, Caleb Marlowe who is being pinned with accusation of purposefully killing an innocent family during a daring rescue operation. What's worse is how can he even come to his own defense when he's unable to reveal reveal all of the details due to national security! And now it's become an international display of deceit of betrayal.

I think Mr. Parshall does a fantastic job of providing suspense and danger combined with real questions that lay deep inside some of us. He really provides a deep groundwork for this book and you can't help but feel like you've been immersed into Will's world.

Here is what I love about Craig Parshall books - they are intelligent, well thought out. They don't look for the easy way out nor oversimplify the Christian perspective from which he writes. This book is worth your time. Will and his wife Fiona are honeymooning when among other things, he hears that there is new evidence regarding the murder of his first wife - a murder he has long been suffering over. Add in the situations that threaten him on multiple levels, challenges to his marriage, beliefs, and life and you have a nice legal thriller. Will is sent to international criminal court to defend a specially trained marine accused by the U.S. military of committing murder in the process of chasing down a kidnapped politician and along the way there are no shortages of challenges. This book is worth your time, and your money and you will find your mind well engaged. But, I highly recommend you read the other two books in the series first. There is some carry over in terms of relationships and characters in play and it will help to appreciate the protagonist if you have this background.

Good knowledge about the law

Interesting topic. All the information about the military rules and the sacrifices the soldiers, marines, etc. sometime need to do is necessary the people know.
Good material, my respects to the people in the forces and the good lawyers.

Another fun legal thriller filled with suspense until the end and unfolding corruption. The only small negative I may have is there are so many characters I had a hard time sometimes remembering who they were and their part in the story.

Gripping

Excellent book! Like the two books that proceed this one, The Accussed holds onto the reader and never lets go. Faith, intertwined with action and suspense make for a brilliant combination.

The story was fairly entertaining, enough to hold my interest and keep me reading. Although I wasn't completely convinced about the outcome of the ICC trial. It seemed a bit too convenient.

This is Grisham meets Clancy meets Karen Kingsbury.

It’s at its strongest in the courtroom and legal wrangling. Less so with the political plot, but still adequate. Weakest with its personal relationships, esp its marriage one, which is so saccharine and on the nose in its depiction.

The last part gets a bit bogged down, but has a redeeming twist.

This story centered on a Marine situation that got twisted up. Lawyer Will Chambers was hired to untwist it. Add in a lot of danger and mindbenders and you've got a great suspense story. Read it!

Fairly easy book to read and it reads fast. I tend to like books with legal themes and the research and the various legal (military and international) were well done. I found myself really liking the main character of this book.
