Tattooed mer-shifters are climbing out of the secret depths to claim their soul mates and save their race!

Steadfast mer king Kadir has endured ridicule, banishment, and undersea prison for his belief that modern human women will save their dwindling race. Freed to found a city of mermen shifters who share his beliefs, he sets out to the surface to woo his bride. And sweet, sensual Elyssa is his.

Elyssa can’t even match her socks. How can she rule an undersea kingdom? But when King Kadir holds her in his bulging, silver-tattooed arms and claims her as his soul mate, deep down the shy introvert holds big dreams. Maybe his magical elixir will transform her into more than just a mousy, water-breathing version of herself. Maybe it will make her into an exceptional woman worthy to be a queen.

All is not well in the fragile new city, and it will take every ounce of Elyssa’s bright courage and Kadir’s unshakeable faith to prove humans and mer shifters can live in harmony. Someone will stop at nothing to end this experiment. And they have deadly allies...

This is a complete novel with a happy ending! Also, it features steamy mer shifter love scenes, exciting shark attacks, and a crotchety giant cephalopod named Octopus Kong. Fall in love with these men of the sea!

2.5 stars.

Not a fan of the clumsy heroines with no confidence trope. I liked Elyssa in the last novel, but the clumsiness seemed overdone in this novel. She comes across as so mouse in this novel, and it is NOT charming.

OMG I just want to punch the main characters!!! The girl is so insipid and stupid. The guy I can understand a bit for being a dumbass because he has never been around women before, but really they both suck! I really want to DNF for the last 10 chapters, but I need to finish it so I can read book 3 which has a strong female character.

Fantastic Series - I just cant get enough. After reading these 4 stories, I'm an addicting fan. I look forward to the next installments. It's a given that I love mermaid stories but these stories have a built history behind them from not only the previous books but the author gives a insight to their past that is just heart breaking and in her stories they get redemption in their soul searching truth with their true mates.

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received*

This was my first book to the author, and her story on mermen and everything they've been through totally blew my mind. I loved the writing style, the way it caught me up with everything despite coming in a book late. I also enjoyed the characters and how everyone acted. It was silly, embarrassing, totally hot and overall engrossing. I had to get the other book.

So many times I screamed at the book that they just needed to TALK to each other. So much miscommunication, so many easily preventable misunderstandings. He keeps expecting so much from her, but he doesn't TELL her what she needs to know, so she keeps making mistakes. Blake felt like a weak last-minute villain thrust into the climax, and I don't understand how her cousin or aunt fit in.

Words are things, but actions speak louder. This was the valuable lesson learned by the new Queen of Atlantis. Who does "more" with her kisses salute than she ever thought she could. As a person who knows a little ASL I appreciate the shout out joke to those who sign, but it is also a metaphor, I think as well. Because kisses are usually a sign of love of some form whether acceptance, welcome, or some other form of affection and those who give and receive them become more, are more because of their open hearts and their willingness to include others. It is the perfect salute/ greeting for the inhabitants of Atlantis. A way to show their acceptance and connection to each other and the spirit of their queen who rules with love first for her king (of course), but her heart is big enough to include all her citizens and binds them all together far better than fear or duty ever could. This is contrasted by the Cartier CEO who's soul is not lit by love, not even for her own flesh and blood. She is grasping and never satisfied by what she has, not wealth, nor power. She is hungry for something she cannot understand and has no idea where to look for it. A husk of a being to be pitied along with those Mer-folk who do not yet understand or have forgotten the power of love which feeds and strengthens all those who share it, like a plant broadcasting seeds. Not all may land on fertile ground, but that's ok because they become food, or go dormant until there is favorable situation. Many more seeds will survive and they in turn will multiply. The life tree is also in a way a love tree, because it propagates like this.
----
“We won today because of faith. Faith in our vision. Faith in our city. Faith in each other. So long as we keep this faith burning bright, Atlantis will withstand any attack. Someday, all will flock to our city. We are the future and the hope of our race.”

Excerpt From: Starla Night. “Sacrificed to the Sea Lord: Lords of Atlantis.” iBooks.
----
So many symbols, metaphors, and layers to what at first seems to be a simple bit of entertainment. Many thanks to Ms. Night for sharing this part of herself with us in the world and characters she has breathed live into. I look forward to many more visits under the sea.

Sacrificed to the Sea Lord (Lords of Atlantis Book 2) Kindle Edition
by Starla Night
I received an ARC in return for honest review.

Starla Night's second Atlantis offering reminds me of walking and playing the tidal pools on the San Juan Islands in the Puget Sound. Everywhere there is something new and surprising.

Whether it is a heroine who is a strong as she is unsure or the warriors who are unsure how to protect their newfound queen, Night does not fail to delight.

Again, rather than falling into the trap of the 'dark' romance that seems to be rapidly taking over the field, she maintains a sweetness to all her characters while making the dangers, from a goblin shark (which I had to google!) to outside warriors to hidebound old men trying to keep things the way they never were.

The story is, of course, in the vein of most lifemate/soulmate/fated mate. However the difference lies in the constant indecision and worry both characters have. It is, also, forgive the pun, a fish out of water as Elyssa, the classic Rom Com klutz is chosen by the new King of the ruined-soon-to-be-restored city of Atlantis, Kadir. Kadir's character has a certain Arthurian undertone which I loved. So desperate to change the status quo of most mer-culture, he is building his own kingdom with a ragtag group of misfits and venomous viper in the mix.

But if you look past the common themes that are the life and breath of paranormal romance, there is a deeper story of growth and change to be seen without the need for the dark, super kinky scenes that have been birthed by 50 Shades. Again, as with the first novel in the series this is a story sweet enough for new adult readers and well written enough for the hardened PNR readers alike.

This review is written after listening to the audio version of this book.

This is the second book in what I think is a really good series. I loved the first book which was the first time I'd come across a merman! This book is as good if not a little better as we learn about their world and their problems. In this book the main characters are Kadir, he is King and was imprisoned by the Old Guard for his belief in trying to find modern wives for himself and his warriors. He has now been freed by loyal warriors and is determined to start a new clan in the ruined city of Atlantis.

He chooses as his Queen, Elyssa who was not even considered worthy to be a contestant in the elaborate pageant staged to find him a bride. Something about Elyssa appealed to him and he ignored all objections and together with his guards he and Elyssa set off for the ruined city of Atlantis.

Elyssa has to learn to master her fears, to believe in herself and most importantly to believe in Kadir. The story is both exciting and thoughtful, the characters are well drawn and have depth. Along the way, Elyssa makes many mistakes, steps on many toes and almost loses everything important to her.

There's quite a lot going on and there is a traitor working against them on the inside. Who can be trusted and who can't - will Atlantis rise again or fall further into ruin? Will Kadir's belief in Elyssa prove to be wrong? These are all valid questions which you will find the answer to in this exciting story.

The narration of this story is very well done by Chandra Skyye and for me made the story very enjoyable. I can't wait to listen to the next book in this exciting series.

I really recommend the book and indeed this series as a whole.

Holy hotness... I did NOT read the prior book before reading this one. However I absolutely did not feel like it hindered my enjoyment of this book. I do wish to go read the first one to learn more about a few characters that we meet throughout the story.

We start off having no idea what Elyssa is doing but falling in love with her pure Soul. Kadir is a fascinating character who you think is confident but quickly learn he has his own demons. The main problem is this story is that these two different people do not know how to communicate. They both fear the other is unhappy and do things that end up making eachother unhappy. One of my favorite parts of this story was watching her interact with everyone. They all assumed the worse of her until they spoke to her. She is such a gentle and loving soul who should be protected but is determined enough to take care of others.

I never realized how much I wanted a mer haha I always wanted to be a mermaid too but never pictured having a hot AF Merman. A few situations irritated me so badly and the author did such a good job making us feel that way. Plus the guardians were so absolutely adorable. I always wanted a pet Octopus but now i want one even more. This story was a much needed break from my norm and I cannot wait to read the rest.

It is a standalone series but I definitely feel like you have an even better experience if you read them in order.

Marie's Tempting Reads ARC Review:

Another soul shattering, AMAZING, Sweet, and yes, sexy romance with another SUPER GORGEOUS merman! OMG Starla Night has did it AGAIN with Sacrificed To The Sea Lord. She has made me fall in LOVE with the story, the characters, the sea all in the space of a few sentences. These merman are 100% ADDICTING! An old-world charm with gorgeous bodies, protective sides that will have you swooning, and the way they can make love to their queens just leave my heart truly happy and sighing in bliss!

Kadir may be a bit different than Torun...since he is a King to Atlantis, he is a bit more hard...until he meets Elyssa. He then seduced her and cared for her and treated her SO FREAKING GOOD. Not that he was mean or anything before..he was just cordial and nice but as he gets to know Elyssa he ended up being a real AWE-MAZING merman. Elyssa was to me, downright endearing with her clumsiness. She was kind-hearted, smart, sweet, strong and every time she messed up and Kadir stood up for her, I just melted more. This romance is so beautiful and brings all sorts of wonderful feelings to the surface and the danger...ELECTRIFYING and had me on the edge.

Starla Night sweeps me away in a beautiful world under the sea that truly is peaceful. It brings an inner peace to me and I can't help but to ADORE the way Miss Night created such beauty. Best mermaid story ever! I give Sacrificed To The Sea Lord an AMAZINGLY SWEET FIVE SHOOTING STARS! If I could give it more I WOULD...in a freaking underwater HEARTBEAT!

King Kadir of Atlantis, came to the surface to find a modern bride to be his queen. He signed a contract with Van Cartier Cosmetics for a bride in exchange for 100 sea opals. The Sea Opals have healing properties, but the Mer use them as mating jewels. With Atlantis being such a young place, their tree wasn't old enough to make sea opals so all the Mer gave their opals to the King so he could find his bride. Van Cartier Cosmetics held a competition, like a beauty contest, and Kadir was to choose one. They had narrowed it down to the final nine when Kadir saw Elyssa hiding behind a clothes rack. Elyssa was chosen by Kadir to be his bride. She wasn't even a contestant and only came to support her cousin, Aya.

Elyssa has no self confidence. She is constantly put down by her Aunt, Chastity Angel, and told that she isn't good enough. She is also accident prone and tends to mess things up. King Kadir convinces her to be his bride and she goes to Atlantis with him where she messes more things up. In the end, she proved herself worthy to be his queen.

There is conflict, action, betrayal and love in this story. Something happens in chapter thirty five that was not believable at all. I can't say what it is or that might spoil some of the story if you decide to read it. I did enjoy this one more than the first and am looking forward to Soren and Aya's story in the next.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Let's start with the salt. OMG, this woman was annoying! There's indecisiveness and then there's Elyssa. She's in a league of her own. Kadir never gave me kingly vibes either. Soren acted much more like a King. These two shouldn't rule a city, Atlantis is still standing due to sheer luck. They defeated none of their enemies! Why they ran is still a mystery to me.

Now the positive. The last part was actually interesting, I couldn't stop reading after I got to that point. I didn't mind the side characters, especially Soren and Aya (who would be much better King and Queen, in my opinion). And that's it. I'm on the fence about the next book.

This second book of the Lords of Atlantis series is even better than the first one. There is a lot more action and excitement in this book. The author shows an amazing talent describing the life at the bottom of the ocean. It's easy for the reader to imagine this sparkling ocean life with all the fish, mammals, and plants. The characters in the story are well developed. They have their ups and downs like everyone else. That I got frustrated with the heroine only shows that the author did an exceptional job writing her. Did I figure out the plot? Yes, I did but not until I read 86% of the story. Which, again, shows great writing skills. The only thing I don't like about this book is the cover. Yes, it's hot but, just like in the first book, the tattoos are all wrong. The first book should have shown golden tattoos and this one silver. It is, however, a great read. I recommend it to everyone who likes a fantasy love story with action and humor. I am still smiling about some of the misunderstandings derived from the fact that mermen don't know much about modern women.

Elyssa Cartier is accident prone. Her self confidence has been battered down over the years by a family member. The pageant for the Mer to meet prospective brides is under way. She has been ordered to stay away by her aunt but her cousin needs her. There are so many rules to keep from offending them. The human world needs the sea opals and the Mer need brides.
King Kadir must be the first to find a worthy queen, so that they can bring his city under the sea to life. He can see the resonance of his chosen one.
Self doubt can destroy all dreams. That is a harsh lesson that our protagonists must learn. Faith and love will conquer all.
I love this series. It's probably best to read in order to understand the politics behind what is happening. There is much to learn in this fascinating world under the sea. What is most dangerous the schools of sharks, the giant octopus or the Mer that disagree with the King. I think I know who gets the next bride, but how it will happen is something I am really looking forward to reading about.
I loved it.

Fall in love with a king and his queen

I loved this story. Seriously.
1. The author managed to really capture the problems that occur when two people from different cultures and languages come together for a relationship. I know this because I've had this struggle. Here is a real life example: my boyfriend of two weeks told me he loved me. His native language was French. In French, je t'aime can mean anything from "I like you" to " I love you". Scared the crap out of me when he told me he loved me, but what he meant was he liked me a lot. Ok, so, then we have this book and there is (spoiler?) so much miscommunication it hurts, but it isn't dumb stuff like they aren't talking to each other. It's because they aren't speaking the same language. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the effort this author went to for this romance.
2. I loved Elyssa. Clumsy as she was, unremarkable as she was, she was perfect. I'd say she is "flawless imperfections" at the core of her character.

Really Great 2ND Book

Totally recommend. Loved the story and all the characters. This 2nd book is sooo much better than the 1st in this series. It had plenty of action and enough drama to keep you turning those pages. I actually read this in a one sitting. No sleep until dawn, when I read the last page (good book hangover).
Only cons I can find are a few typos and the bad descriptive words in the bedroom scenes. Now I'm almost 50 yrs old and I love a good sexy, steamy romantic bedroom scene. I've read a LOT so I can honestly tell you In my opinion, this author used bad description words like slammed, pounded etc. It was less romantic and more cringy. I found myself shaking my read, laughing or just skipping those paragraphs. Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying I don't want no bedroom scenes. But a little less slamming and little more loving would be better for my taste and would easily make this a 5 star read in my book.

Do yourself a favor and READ THIS SERIES!!!

I borrowed a collection of these books through KU, and am unfortunately unable to share highlights on specific books because of that.

This book was good, perhaps not as good as the first in the series, but I enjoyed it a lot.
My main drawback from a better rating is the sheer lack of communication. The mer can SEE inner light when it brightens and dims, and yet still somehow react with absolute drama and ultimatums over misunderstandings. And omg talk about men who can't understand when a woman is literally telling them exactly what she wants...
woman: I'm scared of this new thing, but I want to try it and show you that I'm strong enough so you'll understand that I love you.
mermen: OMG SHE DOESN'T WANT TO DO IT WE ARE HORRIBLE SHE IS SCARED AND LYING TO US ABOUT IT WE NEED TO FIX THIS SITUATION WITH MERMANSPLAINING AND TAKE ALL DECISIONS OUT OF HER HANDS!!!

But they do (eventually) get better. Maybe the real #fantasy part of this book is men who learn how to listen?

Sacrificed to the Sea Lord by Starla Night is a wonderful book and an amazing read. This is book 2 in The Lords of Atlantis Series but could very easily be read as a standalone. Although I, don't know why you would want to once you start . Ms. Night writes very well and you are very soon engrossed in this magical fantasy world she has created. I love how the heroines of these books come across as so real. Elyssa is a klutz that is always saying or doing the wrong thing. She lacks confidence in herself and I think that adds a lot of appeal to this book. This is surprisingly also reflected in the male hero, who struggles with his own issues. Full of romance, true emotion, a bit of sexiness, and a tad of suspense and adventure this is a can't miss book in a can't miss series. I know I can not wait to see what happens next in this series. I absolutely recommend it to readers that love well written and engaging books. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.

There were a couple of errors in the text that were too glaring to overlook: The story of Pocahontas was attributed to Sacajawea, and the blades that were used by the mermen were made of adamantium. Adamantium is a fictional metal created in the Marvel series X-Men. Wolverine has adamantium claws. I guess I was just surprised to see these (especially the adamantium) in the text.

I wished there was a little more character development and heart in the story. At times, it felt a little bare bones. I wanted a little elaboration on the schemes and the romance instead of one-off sentences.

The pacing was a bit too fast. Some breathing room for the characters to grow and for the protagonist to explore her surroundings would greatly help the story. Also, there were some sections that needed some more editing. At times, I felt like a passage was missing and I had to stop and re-read and try to figure out where I was now.

Okay, first off, I have to say, I was very excited for this book. I loved the first in the series. This series has a great concept and a new take on the mythology of mer-folk. But this second book, maybe call it the sophomore slump, dragged for me through the first sixty percent. It felt like too much repeating of the same points over and over again that did not move the plot forward. After that sixty percent point, the plot suddenly kicked into overdrive and became exciting and fun. The conclusion almost makes up for the very, slow start. But this will not stop me from reading book 3 as soon as I get my grubby little hands on it. I support this author and know that the next book will be great. We all suffer from lack of self-editing sometimes. I requested an ARC of this book so that I could post a review.

Sea Lords 1

When I first selected this book, I wasn't sure if I hadn't made a mistake. Sea Lords didn't sound like a good premise for a story but was I ever wrong. The storyline followed the courtship of Elyssa, a girl who was always a bit of a misfit and Kadin, a merman warrior who was King of Atlantis. Ladin and a group of ferment warriors wanted to start a new city where the former city of Atlantis was. But first they needed a queen. So, they made a deal with the head of a cosmetic firm to trade their precious sea gems for a human women who would be Queen. And this is where the story gets really interesting. A series of mishaps leads the mermen on a series of misadventures that would challenge even the most steadfast lovers.
This is the first book from this author I have read. It won't be the last.

I enjoyed the second book in the series much better than the first with the female lead, Elyssa. She was beautiful but clumsy, never seeming to be able to do anything right. I like how her character evolved and the mer men in the castle seemed to respect her when they saw how she was trying so hard to succeed as the queen.
I actually liked Elyssa better than Kadir. He just didn't seem to "get" some of the things that Elyssa was doing. Maybe it was a culture barrier type thing.
I also preferred the book to focus more on the life of the mer and their human brides vs the story plot with the cosmetic company and Lucy's ex husband. They can leave that whole thing out and the book would still be able to hold its own.
I'm curious to where the book will go in the next installment. Hopefully it won't disappoint.

Kadir is the mer King of Atlantis, an old city being revitalized. As a first step, he is seeking a human woman to be his Queen. A deal is struck and a pageant is planned to provide a pool of willing candidates for the position. Elyssa works behind the scene to make the pageant a success. However, through her bumbling clumsiness, Kadir chooses her to be his Queen. Loved the struggles she experienced in transforming into a mermaid and fitting into mer society. However, there is a traitor seeking to destroy Atlantis and its King and a high placed official has his own agenda of betrayal. Enjoyed the mer man world, the mystery and suspense of the battles and the unexpected twists that blew my mind. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Five Stars Plus!

The Mermen have arrived from Atlantis needing a bride for King Kadir. The beautiful, cultured women are lining up for the chance. Kadir wants more. He wants a Queen. Elyssa was warned to stay away from the pageant, but Aya wanted her there, so she went. Elyssa is endearing, works well with people on a personal level, and is overly klutzy. This is all stemmed form her incredibly low self esteem that has been purposefully bolstered. Kadir can not seem to communicate fully with her and most of that is because of the culture differences. Something more is happening with the cosmetic company and Aya and I look forward to discovering what. I am appalled at their greed and price in exchange for one bride, under a shady contract. 2 & 1/2 stars rounded up.
I read book 1, but still felt lost on this book (book 2). This really felt like a draft (not a rough draft, but not a final draft either), that wasn’t elaborated on to make it a polished finished book. There were a lot of things lightly mentioned, but nothing was really explained to help fill in the gaps in both world building & the plot. There were also some contradictory things going on in the story that pulled me out of it. I got really tired of Elyssa‘s inner “Debbie downer” dialogue. In fact, there were a few times I almost quit the book over her behavior. She just ended up as a lack luster character. I really wanted to like her, as the brow beat character that everyone thinks is incompetent, but I just didn’t. Kadir just didn’t come across as all that impressive either, he fell flat for me. I wanted a love match, but really it was all forced & anything but. I didn’t feel the characters falling in love or even developing a friendship. Rather disappointed in the ending, as well. Won’t be continuing with the series.

The king needs a bride

Kadir needed a bride. He was saved from being imprisoned by Soren. A long time friend of his. He was weak, beaten and starved. Now with his vision fully able to become a reality. He gathered mer from other cities who sought out his ideals and wanting change.
A human bride is his goal.
Elyssa was Aya's cousin. They worked in the same company. She was clumsy and make mistakes often. She was warned by her aunt, to stay away from the pageant where a med king was to select a bride. Things didn't go as planned.
Book two was also very detailed in description of the underwater world. Elyssa was doubting herself greatly throughout the book. Very slow burn as book one.

okay so this would be 4 stars for me but this book has been a frustration simulator. nobody gives her any information and then she reacts to things as any human would and then everyone punishes her for it. at only 35% in I was already sick of getting yelled at. it is relentless miscommunication and beating down a meek but kind FMC for like 98% of the book (I wish I was joking). also what was up with the male narrator of this audiobook? he had a nice voice but it felt like he whispered the entire performance, I had to keep cranking up the volume. for a fierce warrior he sounded pretty meek himself.

I just feel exhausted. 😐

if you don't care about frustrating shit, 4 star book. highly recommend.

This was another great offering from "the deep" by Starla Night. The continuity from book 1 flowed smoothly and effortlessly into this second installment in the series. As Lucy and Torun did in their story, Elyssa and Kadir make this tale a memorable and very enjoyable read. Once again, the characters were personally-identifiable, immensely interesting and quite endearing. The plot line was captivating, well-paced and very well-written. Night has really made the concept of Mer-Shifters work! Bring on book 3!

Humorous, touching, realistic characters, steam, love

When the book description asked, "How could she be a queen when she couldn't even match her socks," I laughed, felt happy and dove into the book.

This story delivers on all fronts: fantasy world-building; varied, interesting characters; the push and pull of relationships among a group; the development of respect and community; the misunderstandings between people because their frames of reference are different; the humor; the step-by-step discoveries of self, other, acceptance and commitments; the steamy love-making; the unconventional turns in the unfoldment of the story.
This is a character-driven, humorous, romantic fantasy. Come enjoy!
