My Sister's Boyfriend

Rate this book
"Oh my god… Literally had me lost for words!… Absolutely fantastic, full of gripping twists… Will definitely have you on the edge of your seat." Jessica’s Book Biz, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Brooke’s face lights up and the corners of her eyes crinkle as she smiles brightly at her new boyfriend. He gently pulls her in, nestling her cheek on his chest. But when he turns his head towards me, my blood runs cold. I know my sister’s life is in danger…

I would recognize that face anywhere. Handsome and chiseled. The perfect mask. I prayed I would never see Noel Harwood again, but here he is, sneering at me over Brooke’s shoulder.

I want to protect her, but I remember the last time I saw her. Voice dripping with venom, she said she would never forgive my betrayal. I want to scream at her to run and tell her that Noel has done terrible things, but the words die in my throat. I’ve lied too often for her to believe me over her knight-in-shining-armor.

I need to be smart if I want to save my sister. Noel might think he’s one step ahead, but he has no idea what I’m capable of. He could never imagine the darkness that lurks in our family. Or the truth about what happened on the jagged clifftop, all those years ago.

I nearly lost Brooke once, and I’ll never let that happen again. I’ll do whatever it takes to protect her…

An addictive, page-turning psychological thriller from USA Today bestseller Nicola Marsh. Fans of The Housemaid, Lisa Jewell and Mark Edwards will feel their hearts race as they find twist after twist!

I thoroughly enjoyed this twisty psychological thriller I met most of the characters in My Sister’s Husband so was familiar with them but there is a newcomer who becomes Brooke’s boyfriend he is very good looking and does everything right and this is Brooke’s first adult relationship with everything she has been through in the past, but her sister Lizzie who is a psychologist gets really bad vibes form Noel Harwood when she meets him in one of her art therapy classes for released prisoners and she does not yet know that he is Brooke’s boyfriend seeing as they have had a falling out, how will all of this turn out?

Lizzie is very protect of her sister and niece after all that they have been through in the past, they are now estranged their Aunt Alice and Brooke is still not giving her a chance on explaining what happened to make Brooke not want to talk to her, but she will never give up on loving her and protecting her, will Brooke give her a chance to put forward her worries before it is too late.

Brooke is managing well with her daughter a new job she employs a nanny housekeeper, Hazel and when Hazel asks her out for drink to meet her housemate Brooke goes along and meeting Noel Harwood soon changes her life, she is falling for this handsome fabulous man but soon Lizzie is pushing for her to re-think her relationship, Brooke is not happy, trust is not easy for Brooke, she thinks Noel is wonderful until she discovers maybe he isn’t.

This one will have you turning the pages as danger lurks, this one is filled with secrets from the past that have sprung up now to cause hurt and pain, will Brooke, Lizzie and Hope come through alive and well and then the twist at then had me shaking my head. This one is filled with fabulous characters good and bad and I would highly recommend to anyone who loves a good twisty psychological thriller.

I received an advance copy from Netgalley - thank you!

This was an interesting story.. it’s told from the point of view of Lizzie, Brooke and Noel. Noel has just been released from prison & has intertwined himself with Lizzie and Brooke. I’m still a little confused about the family dynamic in the story, but I guess it’s not relevant. Overall, decent book!

Wow, this was suspenseful! I was truly on the edge of my seat for the majority of the story. There were so many different ways the characters were intertwined, and the shocking twists along the way had me gripped! I read this in one sitting as I just had to know how it would end! I am still in shock.. amazing writing and wonderful book!

I received this ARC from NetGalley and Bookouture to read/review. All of the statements are my own opinions after fully reading this book.

The book started out really good but halfway through it became really predictable and the adult characters acting really dumb.

Sadly I wouldn’t call this one a thrilling read. However, the writing kept me until 70 %.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one! I was mentally enthralled from the beginning and found myself literally gripping the book until the middle of the night to find out what was going on. Twisty, turny, thriller goodness. We have identical twins, estranged sisters, lies, deceit, EX-PRISONERS?! I love books where you trust literally no one and this fit the bill for me! The two key twists that hit had me actually slack-jawed and shocked – coming from someone who is a thriller junkie, it takes a lot to get me to that point where I don’t see it coming!

Brooke and Lizzie are estranged sisters who, despite their past, are desperately trying to move forward as a family unit for the betterment of Brooke’s daughter, Hope. Lizzie works as an art therapist at a correctional facility with ex-prisoners, which is where she meets Noel when she is subbing for another art therapist’s class. Despite Noel being revered as an upstanding ex-prisoner, Lizzie feels uncomfortable around him and is thankful she won’t have to ever see him again – until she connects the dots that Brooke is dating him. As Lizzie ends up forced to interact with Noel more regularly once he receives a promotion at the correctional facility, she begins to realize there is more transpiring underneath the surface.

This one is told in multiple POVs between Brooke, Lizzie, and Noel’s perspectives. I am spoiler-free over here at Nellie’s Reads so I am not sharing a single additional thing! Trust me and if you love thrillers, pick this one up. You are not going to regret it! Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my advanced reader copy. This one releases on 9/9!

I wanna thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

this book had me hooked at times and wanting to know what the hell was going on.. but as i was reading on, I figured everything out which wasn’t surprising to me in the slightest. The minute we met Noel, I knew something was off and I got it instantly. Still very creepy at times while reading so points for that sure. But not as gripping as it could of been..

With tension pretty much from the very first scene, I was surprised to discover that My Sister’s Boyfriend is a sequel to My Sister’s Husband. Going into this book blind, as I tend to do with authors that I really enjoy, I was pulled right into the story even though I did not read the first book.

The story begins when Lizzie’s sister Brooke has a new boyfriend. It is not simply the fact that Brooke has a boyfriend. His name is Noel. The issue that Lizzie has is that she knows Noel and the last thing she wants is her sister to be involved with him. Brooke has her own issues and having Noel in her life is making her happy. No doubt Brooke is concerned when Lizzie tries to warn her away from Noel.

As this is a psychological thriller, it should come to no surprise that there are secrets and hidden pasts in this story. Which character has the secrets and why was an intriguing story to watch unfold. I like how the drama played out in this story, especially as we see Brooke trying to keep it together so that she can protect Brooke.

In all honesty, my curiosity is piqued. I plan on reading both books in order, and this does include this book that is being reviewed now. I’d like to see the entire picture. Nonetheless, for the sake of this review, I have to take this time to applaud Nicola Marsh for writing such a thrilling story, one that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Wow! This book was intense! I absolutely loved it! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The plot was complex with there being a lot of connections between the characters. The twists and turns had me SO captivated. I couldn't get through this bool fast enough. I was so curious to get to the ending, which did not disappoint. Family lies, betrayal and secrets are the theme in this nail biting, suspenseful book. Very intriguing storyline and even more enthralling writing.

Once I head this was a sequel, I went and read the first book, My Sister's Husband. It is not necessary, as this can be read as a standalone, but that book is just as good. I will definitely be reading more from this author.

My Sister’s Boyfriend is the thrilling sequel to My Sister’s Husband.
With a returning cast, a compelling plot, a twisty twist or two and the unexpected ending, this read is completely addictive.
Two years after the events in the first book, Brooke is moving on with her life.
Her daughter, Hope is coping with her new environment.
Then Brooke meets a new man, ex con Noel.
But sister, Lizzie believes he is not all he says he is.
What to know what happens next……
Read the book.
Secrets, lies, deception, suspense and immediately interesting.
A fast paced tangled psychological thriller with some suburban drama vibes.
Told from the three characters perspectives, it jumps between them in this gripping tale.
Twisted family secrets and remember nothing is as it seems….
A solid melodrama from an author who never disappoints.

What a finger licking story this is!

Usually a family should love and support each other, but there are families, like the one in the book, who tell lies and betray like there is no tomorrow. I  already had great fun discovering this entangled web, but there is a lot more to unveil.

When you have been stabbed in the back once, you are suspicious of everything and everyone and you feel like you cannot trust anyone, not even those who have your best interests at heart. Everybody seems to want what you have and you decide, from now on, you will only rely on your own instincts...

I was shocked and flabbergasted on more than one occasion. This was such a roller coaster, filled to the rafters with twists. Even the twists had twists. :)

I loved every minute it took me to devour this book. It was even more tasty than a plate full of my favorite dessert. 5 stars.

Thank you

I received a copy of this book for free and leave my review voluntarily.

This book was intense and fast-paced from the beginning. I didn’t realize it was part of a series, so at times, I felt a bit lost with the characters. I would recommend reading the books in order.

The twists and turns in this book were wild. I couldn’t put it down, and I could not guess anything correctly. I love the family dynamic and the protective love the sisters have.

This was a fantastic thriller filled with chaos, intensity, and many secrets. I have added the first book (My Sister’s Husband) to my TBR. I will have to give that a go to get the full effect of these characters.

This book was quite the wild ride with family drama and betrayal at the center of it all. There were so many twists and unexpected details that kept you hooked from the beginning until the end, trying to figure out the truth. Out of all the twists, I guessed one, but others I didn’t see coming at all. I also enjoyed reading from all the different characters’ POV as the story progressed. Overall, it was an enjoyable, fast paced read and I will definitely be checking out more books by this author. Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for an ARC of My Sister’s Boyfriend.

4.5/5 stars

This was quite a ride - after several mediocre thrillers, I very much enjoyed reading this. I thought it was fast paced, suspenseful, with some pretty short chapters. I want to start off by saying, I guessed the ‘big’ twist like 15-20% into reading this, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the rest of the story. The amount of connections between the characters that are revealed throughout keep the storyline intriguing. As the story progresses we are given some pretty shocking family secrets that also contribute to the overall story.

I would definitely read from this author again.

My Sister’s Boyfriend by Nicola Marsh is a follow up to My Sister’s Husband (2020). In the aftermath of My Sister’s Husband, sisters Lizzie and Brooke have a strained relationship but remain civil for the sake of Hope, their daughter and niece, and their Aunt Alice. They seem to be on a path to a better relationship when Brooke brings home her new boyfriend. There is something off about Noel Harwood, something Lizzie can’t quite vocalize. However, she knows her sister’s life is in danger. Behind the handsome face and a dazzling smile, there is a sinister gleam in his eyes. She wants to protect her; but she knows her warnings would fall on deaf ears. Lizzie needs to be smart and out maneuver Noel. She doesn’t know what his end game is, but he has no idea how far Lizzie will go to protect her family. She nearly lost Brooke once. She can’t lose her now.
After reading the thrilling story of My Sister’s Husband, I was stoked to hear that Ms Marsh was writing a follow up. I started reading My Sister’s Boyfriend with great anticipation. I should have reread My Sister’s Husband as details were discussed in My Sister’s Boyfriend that had me a little confused but I quickly remembered. On a side note, if you haven’t read My Sister’s Husband, I highly recommend reading it. Not only is it an awesome story; but you will need to know the family history to follow My Sister’s Boyfriend. While it is not my experience with the drama between sisters, Lizzie and Brooke are two women with a lot of emotional baggage and past hurts to overcome. There were a few twists that I was able to predict; however, Noel’s true motive and his end game was a shocking reveal. Once the story hit high gear, it took off and would not stop. I highly recommend My Sister’s Boyfriend.

As a long time fan of Nicola Marsh I was so excited to be given the opportunity to check out this latest book. I had very high hopes going into this book and safe to say I was not disappointed. I didn't realise until l started that it was a sequel to my sister's husband but that just made things all the better because I already knew and enjoyed the characters. This book has a multitude of characters but I found each of them and their story lines to be very interesting and fast paced. Just like the first novel there is still strong lines of family tension and distrust which is exactly what drew me I to this book from the get go. This was an edge of your seat thriller that any one would be lucky to get their hands on. This was also a very fast paced book that I couldn't wait to devoure. There was so much going on in this book that at times it was a little hard to keep things straight however I loved the characters yet again and I really found myself connecting with our main character a lot. There were a few different story lines taking place at the same time but each one of them was very attention grabbing and left me wanting more as a reader. I found each story line very strong which was surprising and I found it very easy to keep track of what was happening. Don't get discouraged by the multitude of characters or the different story lines because this book will knock your socks off and is well worth getting into. The ending was amazing and it connected everything perfectly. Check out this book for sure however if you do, make sure to have read the first book because it will answer a lot of questions that come up. Great read yet again and I can't wait to see what she comes out with next.

Often in life, family relationships can be complicated and when your sister commences a relationship with an ex-con this may well be the case and you may be concerned.

Brooke and Lizzie had fallen out in recent years but they both are trying to build bridges back to how things used to be. Family secrets have caused issues between the two and when we find out why it is not hard to understand how this happened. Brooke becomes besotted with the new man Noel, telling Lizzie her sister she has found the man of her dreams and has never been loved like this before, but there are major alarm bells going off in Lizzie’s head after she meets Noel, and she is also concerned for her niece Freya being exposed to this guy. She just has a bad vibe from him.

Betrayal, revenge, secrets and trust are strong themes in the book and usually do make for entertaining reading. There is quite a twisty plot that keeps the reader engaged and you will find yourself in for a few shocks along the way. Noel also has a twin brother Ned, and this part of the story was quite cleverly done by the author although this is the part that I did work out myself.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for an advanced copy, all opinions are my own. 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars.

I've read a few of Nicola Marsh's thrillers, and this is written in that same distinctive way.
A three-POV story between two estranged sisters, Brooke and Lizzie, and Noel, the surviving half of a set of twins, introduces us to some crazy family dynamics, a whole load of lies, and pretty twisted characters!
Brooke and Lizzie's relationship is fragile due to the lies they have been told their whole lives, and mistrust is still at the forefront of their minds.
Then Noel enters. He is a seemingly decent guy, even though he was incarcerated for an accidental death he was responsible for.
But things are off from when Lizzie meets him, and she cannot get her sister, Brooke, to listen.
I must admit I figured out one of the twists along the way, but there were plenty of other betrayals and untruths that emerged later in the story.
It kept me turning the pages!

This is an unputdownable psychological thrill that will keep you up all night!

The story is told in Lizzie Noel and Brooke's POV. Noel was recently released from prison and then he signs into Lizzie's classes. He also starts dating Brooke. But Lizzie is suspicious of who Noel really is.

I like the pacing of the story although I kind of predicted what the ending was going to be, although only a certain part of ending, I didn't actually expect. The story overall was paced and it involves Noel and his twin brother Ned--there is some kind of evil twin story part going on in the story. The writing was great and there are some twists and turns on the story and overall, the story was really interesting and was quiet a page turner. This is the second book I have read from this author and looking forward to read more books from this author!

This is worth 4 stars.

Sisters Lizzie and Brooke have one hell of a past to dwell on, they have been through more than average and it’s hard to believe they are still standing. The book follows the sisters and also twins Ned and Noel told on now and then timelines from the pov of Lizzie, Brooke and Noel.

I would say this is more of a YA, mystery/thriller, it gave me soap opera vibes, I was disappointed to find out it is the second in a series and wish I would have known as I think reading the first book would have been better than reading this as a standalone. There are plenty of twists and reveals, some I didn’t expect, others I did. All in all it makes for a good read and I will definitely be interested in more from this author.

If you’re in the mood for a good psychological thriller, pick up My Sister’s Boyfriend by Nicola Marsh.

I will admit, that I did guess a part of the plot early on. HOWEVER, I was caught off guard at other plots where I was not expecting the plot twists. But it makes it that much better!

There’s family secrets that emerge into the light a decade after where lives start changing. It’s hard to give a small synopsis to this thriller without giving away spoilers preventing a genuine thrill reaction to a reader.

I found it to be a very quick read only because I was suckered into this thriller! I enjoyed it.

This is a story about a family of sisters with some interesting twists and turns. The book was well written and I would say had an almost Lucinda berry feel to it. I figured out the twist fairly early on by the similarities to another novel I had read with a similar plot so that wasn’t a shock to me. The epilogue did however surprise me so despite there not being as much suspense for me in one respect the book was still enjoyable and delivered an unexpected twist to end on.

This was my first reading by this author and I did enjoy it and would read more in future.

Thank you to NetGalley for sending me an arc copy to review.

This was a captivating and entertaining story from start to finish, brilliantly well written too.

I thought the characters were great, and enjoyed getting to know them all, I liked how the story flicked back to the past through out the story so as to give us more insight into the two Twins Ned and Noah background.

There were a couple of good twists within the story, one of them I actually guessed quite early in the story, but it didn’t ruin the story for me at all. The other twist though was a total surprise and didn’t expect it at all.

So overall, another fabulous story from author Nicola March.

Man this book was so good. I had this book done in about 3 days which is very fast for me. While I had one twist figured out about halfway, it just added to the thrill because I was like when and how will it come into play. I was not disappointed one bit with all the suspense and family drama. Maybe that's what sucked me in was the family drama.

I will be adding Nicola Marsh to my list of author to check out because this book was so good!!! Highly recommend it

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing this book, with my honest review below.

My Sister’s Boyfriend was creepy and had some solid twists that kept the story fresh. Following sister’s Lizzy and Brooke (the sister), we learn about their backstory with sister their Aunt Alice, dead sister Freya, and her daughter (now taken care of by Brooke), Hope. Interspersed we see Noel’s perspective (the boyfriend) and flashes to his past with his brother Ned, killed in an accidental car accident by Noel. It’s agreed Ned was a bad seed but it turns out he has ties to Freya and Hope. And with Lizzy having a bad feeling about Noel, despite his perfect image, the tension between Lizzy, Noel, and Brooke is clear. But what makes this book so effective as a thriller is the secrets everyone is keeping from the other and the dysfunctional family ties that are uncovered.
