Darius Williams, a former mixed martial artist, is no stranger to fighting battles. But after a tragic accident in the ring ended his career and left him haunted by PTSD, he found solace in the bottom of a bottle, working at his uncle's campground in New Mexico. Just when he thought his life couldn't get any darker, a mysterious blue box appeared one spring morning, heralding the end of the world as he knew it.
The System had arrived, transforming reality into a nightmarish video game where survival is anything but guaranteed. As society collapses around him, Darius must confront the demons of his past and the new, terrifying creatures that now roam the earth.
In the midst of chaos, Darius stumbles upon a powerful City Core, granting him the ability to transform "Enchanted Nights," his uncle's campground, into a System-recognized Settlement. With this newfound power, he must gather resources, rescue survivors, and build a new home amidst the ruins of civilization.
Facing relentless monsters and ruthless enemies, Darius embarks on a journey of redemption and leadership. To survive, he must harness his fighting spirit and navigate the treacherous world of the System, forging a path to sovereignty in a land where only the strongest prevail.
Join Darius on an epic quest to reclaim his life and carve out a place of safety and hope in a world gone mad. "Path of Sovereignty" is an apocalyptic LitRPG adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat, blending heart-pounding action with a side of Slice-of-Life survival.

Book one

This book has some problems. Some are lack of basic research. Some are just things I personally have a problem with.

The law does not work like that.
I don't care how rich your daddy is, if you step into a ring and you get killed your opponent can't be charged with murder unless he specifically states before the match that he is going to murder you during the match in which you died. Therefore you can't convict the MC for assault either.
So rich daddy tries to do a wrongful death suit, it would be thrown out immediately. You take your life into your own hands when you step into a ring. Plus a pre-existing medical condition means that a wrongful death suit is going to get zero traction.

Your story just fell apart because what you tried to set it up on character wise never would have happened. So no year long trial, no loss of everything he owned, no climbing into a bottle in self pity.

I don't like the MC he is a drunk and not very smart. (See being a drunk.)
He is also very nasty. Having no problem running around in vomit and crap filled clothing.
The other characters showed no disgust with the MC and chatted like he wasn't covered in nasty.

I absolutely hate when an author puts titles of other books or movies into the story.
You just gave your story a limited shelf life by doing that. (This is my personal opinion.)

Every single action pretty much gives the MC a skill or a skill up. This doesn't make any sense for the environment of your story. You end up with characters to strong for the planet to be able to accept their actions. One person could become so powerful within their lifetime as to be able to destroy the world.... On accident!

He was the only one put into the larder without being killed or butchered. Why? The kibolds would have known that he wasn't dead. So why just leave him tied up? Everything else in there was dead. Everything else being brought in was dead. So why is he alive.

3/10 He should have gone back and looted all those bodies.

Well written but not a 'fun' novel. The MC takes 2nd place to the detailed "system". The usual excessively long and repetitive stat blocks, system notifications, administrative detail and quests. Quick guess this makes up 50% of the content with the rest split evenly between plot development and characterization. Probably should have been expanded and split into two volumes. One a game masters handbook and one an actual novel focusing on characters and plot development. I credit Mr. Barber with logical and detailed system development to get a 4th star as based on being a fun and entertaining read it would be only 3 stars.
The LitRPG genre is inherently a tightrope to walk and few do well enough in balancing the opposing elements it contains.
Another bit of boldness is that the system encompasses existing religions opening the door to all kinds of controversy, prejudice, logical fallacy's and is cruising for a bruising among true believers of many real faiths. Brave or foolhardy? -only time will tell.

Good story needs editing

So this is a really fun story but the editing is extremely poor. Lots of misused words or outright grammatical errors in the prose. I expect that in people speech patterns but not in the narrative. I would still recommend this to other basebuiltding litepg people.

Kind of dry

The book started off well then the author got bogged down in what the MC could not do based on funds. This seems like it could be a great series however, it's difficult to slog through the tedium.

Great read

I enjoyed reading this book very much and I recommend this book to anyone who likes LitRPG and progression type of books with lots of action. Once immersed in the story, it was a great read.

I did not finish this. Tge protagonist is loathsome
- also uses the “N” word for cheap wokeness credit. Didn’t make it more than a small amount of pages no idea how bad and trite the whole book is…?

Post apocalyptic lit rpg in a trailer park in New Mexico. Base building, leveling. It was fine but didn't really grab me.

Darius is super uninspiring as the lead and his backstory doesn’t make him sound very heroic. Then he pootles about taking the path of least resistance and everyone thinks he’s strong but silent. I don’t know, I wanted him to be cool, you know?
