I am enjoying this series by Lilly Mirren. "The Summer Pact", Book 3 in the Sunshine Series, is yet another heartwarming story with the threads of several women's lives interwoven into a heartwarming continuing tale. Newly divorced Gwen's hotel is a stunning success, but when a guest's spouse dies while vacationing at the hotel, will it hurt business? Gwen's compassion helps comfort the surviving spouse until a mysterious newcomer arrives on the scene. Meanwhile, can Gwen keep up the hectic pace of running a hotel? After losing her job, and breaking up with her boyfriend, Beth moves in with her newly divorced mother Gwen. She takes the summer to relax and re-evaluate her life while looking for a new job. Can Beth ever find happiness and have her life's dream of a family? When Beth meets someone from her teenage years, the fireworks cause quite a positive and hopeful feeling. Can she get a second chance at a love relationship? Debbie's spare time now that she's retired develops a wild and imaginative thought that backfires when she goes to investigate a neighbor's strange behavior. "The Summer Pact" is a warm-hearted story of women who go the extra mile to support and care for their female friends. It has humor, love, mystery and so much more! I highly recommend this clean romance. NOTE: This series is best read from the beginning with Book 1 so that the reader can acquaint themselves with each of the characters and their back stories. There's also a cliffhanging ending that continues into the next book. I received a complimentary ARC of this book and have voluntarily given my honest opinion in this review.
Beth met a boy, Damien, on the beach 15 years ago on New Year's Eve when she was 13. They really got on well together, however as he was on holiday he was leaving shortly so they couldn't continue their relationship but agreed to meet up again in 15 years if they were both single. Shortly before this time is up Beth returns home jobless and having broken up with her boyfriend and still thinks of Damien. This is part of a series and you really need to have read the earlier books to fully appreciate it, if you have it is wonderful to catch up with all the characters from those. It is fairly true to life, nothing is straightforward but amongst the trials and tribulations there are successes, all underpinned by friendships. Definitely recommended for those who enjoy a warm, comforting book, although as it is set in Australia I still struggle with having Christmas in the middle of summer. I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however this did not influence my review of the book.
Another great addition to this series! Beth Prince is the focus of this book. She has returned home after her job is eliminated and her longtime boyfriend decided he wanted to move on. With nothing to hold her in Brisbane, she returns to family in Sunshine. Job search, hugs from her best friend and great food from Mom, she settles into runs on the beach, time with her longtime friend, Jemma, and finding peace. There are surprises such as someone who re-appears in her life after fifteen years. I loved the gathering of family and friends; I enjoyed the idea of love between neighbors and friends; and I was excited about the future of the little family with a new baby. Thanks for great storylines and excellent writing.
Gwen’s 28 year old daughter, Beth, comes home to Sunshine after being fired and dumped by 6 month boyfriend. She goes to the New Year’s Eve festival to look for Damien. He is from another city and they had a wonderful day at the beach when they were 13. They said if they were both single in 15 years they would meet and marry. He shows up at the end of the book and they agree to date and see where it goes. Joanna and Chris are dating. Debbie is busy volunteering and writing a novel. Gwen’s B&B and bistro is successful.
I love this series. The series, itself, is about the friendship of retired women. This book continues the story and adds Beth Prince. She has lost her job and her boyfriend and has come home. She is living with her mother and is enjoying being back to her childhood town. It is nearing New Year's Eve. Beth met a boy when she was 15. They had promised to meet again 15 years later. It is a fun book full of friendship, love and hope. I highly suggest reading the series.
I see this series as a tv series, you have the main characters and more characters are added. Following them all is fun. The older ladies are building up their lives again, finding new love, a new Career and new friendships. I can’t wait to read the conclusion.
Great great story. Who would think that after 15 years he would come back to find her. A true love story and I don’t always like love stories but love this one.
